Players praise the open world and movement, but many find the third island and cyberspace levels frustrating. [1][2][3] Some reviewers note the game has a poor default control scheme and recommend adjusting settings for better fun. [4][3][5] Several players criticize the Denuvo anti-piracy software for causing technical issues and bans. [6][7]

- Buy game on Linux - Dual boot to Windows to see if the game runs better - Get 24 hour ban for some reason Thanks Denuvo The game is still great, but I do not recommend paying for a game infested with malware.

The true successor to Sonic Adventure. Free roam in a big beautiful open area. Go fishing with Big. Learn some ancient lore from water aliens (or maybe their ghosts). Blow up the moon. Make sure you play the Final Horizon DLC so you can run around as Tails for a bit. PRO: all the Super Sonic boss fights CON: the cyber space levels (like, normal Sonic levels) are pretty much entirely skippable. There should be a …

Sonic Frontiers is a game that manages to snatch mediocrity from the jaws of greatness, and it's so upsetting, because it comes so damn close to it. The first two islands are simply great, but then you get hit with the dreaded Chaos Island, and it's like the level designers forgot how to design levels for a 3D open world. It's filled with random booster pads that lock you into a 2D section you can't escape, and …

I genuinely recommend to players to collect as many of the songs as they can for the Jukebox and spend time running around the open zones blasting out the Sonic music, the vibes are immaculate! Just a well-made set of open worlds. Got a bit of a poor reception lately, but the core game is still pretty fun. Could do with some performance upgrades though. Also: I heavily recommend messing with the movement settings. …

If you do play this game: In the settings, set Jump Deceleration to 0 and turn on Maintain Boost During Jump. I promise the game is 100x more fun when you're able to basically glide through the air with a well-aimed jump, and use that to try and find faster ways to get stuff.

Critics, per Wikipedia
Nintendo Life characterized early Frontiers gameplay footage as divisive. Kotaku felt the game looked fine but derivative and bland, lacking the series' unique identity, and Polygon and Nintendo Life found the open world desolate. Some fans demanded the game be delayed, and the hashtag #DelaySonicFrontiers briefly trended on Twitter. Iizuka said that Sonic Team expected early reactions to be polarized, as he felt the early footage would not give fans a good idea of what to expect. According to the review aggregate website Metacritic, the PlayStation 4 version and Windows version of Sonic Frontiers received "generally favorable reviews", while other console versions received "mixed or…

neutral · AI labelView post →we had sort of heard that Sonic Frontiers was kind of developed with “this might be the last one” in mind but it’s like crazy, this game was Sonic The Hedgehog’s funeral effectively.
negative · AI labelView post →Sonic Frontiers might be the most “potential game” ever My enjoyment of it almost completely rests on the next game that (hopefully) builds upon it being a massive improvement with more substance Once that day comes, I’ll have zero reason to return to it (aside from boss music)

neutral · AI labelView post →Sonic Frontiers is a delightful game that, while not my personal favorite Sonic game, it’s definitely enjoyable and easy to 100% complete. I picked it up in 2023 and played it until about island two. Then I got bored and dropped it. However, I came back to it in 2025 to complete my backlog and finally checked it off my list. The game has its pros and cons. The islands can be quite repetitive, with all the challenges being similar on each one. In my opinion, Chaos Island is by far the worst.…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Well, the gameplay is fun when you play the core story. However, it is an endless grind in which it feels like there is no progress. You are looking for the final item of whatever for hours. You are standing next to it, but it is on the other side of that mountain. You run 30+ minutes across the whole map again, there is another mountain. I tried.

neutral · AI labelView post →Let's start with the positives: The movement feels amazing when you find the right physics settings. The soundtrack is amazing. Boosting around the open zones collecting memory tokens is just a simple good time. The enemy designs are all cool as hell. The story feels perfect for someone just a little more invested in the series than I am. . Now for the cons: The game does a poor job at telling players what settings and modes will be the most fun for them (almost certainly not the defaults), and…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I really want to give this game a good review as it is legitimately the best sonic game in years. However I cannot due to denuvu anti-piracy bs that actively punishes legit players by denying them access to launch the game after 5 times in one day???? Spent ages trying to fix tech issues just to get the game to run and then the anti-cheat blocks me from playing once I actually get the game to run properly. Absolute p-take this will remain a negative review until denuvu is removed

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Only made it to the second Cyber-Space area and that was enough to make me stop playing. It's a shame because I was actually finding myself enjoying the open world area, but the cyber space levels just feel so stiff and janky...it feels like a worse version of Generations. This is something which is compounded further by the fact that these levels are also rehashes of old sonic levels. We get it Sonic Team, you made some cool levels in the past. May I suggest you make *new* cool levels now?…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I have let my thoughts on this game sit for a good several years. While my initial run through on the switch was a little bitter from having a lot of the modern game fixings that I didn't feel sonic needed, I soon found myself enjoying a sonic game where forward is no longer the only path. My frustrations with older sonic games was having all this speed only to have limited hallways to use it for, making the speed a detriment instead of a tool. This is the type of sonic game I've wanted for…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Sonic Frontiers isn't bad. It's ok. It's just nothing special. Having played for one hour, I don't see anything that intrigues me, or surprises me, or tells me that it's worth checking out. As far as I can see, it's just Sonic running on a big meadow, collecting items, fighting enemies, completing levels, jumping on platforms and rails. Who I recommend Sonic Frontiers to: people who like an open world and that are relatively new to videogames. People who welcome almost any game with open hands…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I'd like to say I'm a pretty decent Sonic fan. I haven't played all of the games or read all of the comics, but I've been dabbling in everything since the days of Sonic Adventure 2 and I love them all. Sonic Frontiers is a bit of an oddity to me. Half the time, I am genuinely blown away by what was given to me, and the other half I am boggled that the game was pushed forward the way it is. Even still, I am enamored with this game. Two words that come to mind with Sonic Frontiers are spectacle…

neutral · AI labelView post →I say this as a lifetime Sonic fan: literally what were they thinking?? This game suffers A LOT from a lack of direction. In most previous sonic games, stages follow a story and Sonic has a clear, narrative-driven purpose for where he goes and what he does. Here, stages have nothing to do with the story. Things just happen. A minigame randomly gives you a chaos emerald or one of the many arbitrary resources/currencies you need to progress. It really feels like the Sonic Team just made a bunch…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Overall, it's a pretty fun game with a few annoyances. Movement feels good and fun, but the camera kind of sucks sometimes and Chaos Islands (3rd island) are worse than booty cancer. Very easy game to get 100% achievements. Get it on sale, not even close to worth $60, but if it goes on sale for 20 or under its worth it.
