Players widely praise the level design, music, and replayability, calling it one of the best Sonic games. Sega you delist the original game and shove it in a bundle because you knew that It used to be 20 bucks, and you're trying to get 60 bucks for doing the bare minimum. I already know that Sonic X Shadow Generations is a half baked product because the old game that came out since 2011 is slapped onto the new content that is only 3 to 5 hours long in 2024. In summary, you chose not to provide me, the customer, an …

This should be everyone's first Sonic game. It is filled with so many important locations and set pieces from across the series, perfectly designed levels full of satisfying gameplay and replayability, a ton of unlockables through red rings and challenges for even more replayability, and a pretty good modding scene for more replayability on top of that! The story is also extremely out of the way, which is another …

I ain't gonna sugarcoat it, this is still the definitive version of generations. It runs better and has less bugs and glitches than the remaster, AND has (unofficial) mod support. Anyways, the classic and modern stages are almost all extremely stellar levels, with exceptions of planet wisp being extremely slow as both characters, making the level faithful to the pace of colors, but not the rewarding exploration, …

The closest a Modern Sonic game might ever get to a Mario game in quality, Generations (and by extension, Sonic x Shadow Generations) borrows stages from previous games in the series and revitalizes them with excellent level design, music, and solid side content. It’s almost hard to believe that Sonic Team made this game since there are so many bad Modern Sonic games with a poorly thought-out gimmick added in or bad …

Critics, per Wikipedia
The console and PC versions of Sonic Generations received "generally favorable reviews", according to review aggregator Metacritic. The game was also successful commercially, selling 1.85 million copies worldwide across all platforms by March 31, 2012. The game's presentation was well received. Nathan Meunier of GameSpot called the graphics arguably the best of the series, praising the detail put into recreating each level; this statement was echoed by Tim Turi of Game Informer. Jack DeVries and Brian Altano of IGN offered similar praise for the visuals, and described its remixed tracks as "cool" and its sound effects as "spot on". Tom Bramwell of Eurogamer felt Sonic Generations was a…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I love this game, I do not love it being delisted and rolled into the legacy bundle. Not cool, SEGA.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →SEGA deslisted this so YOU wouldn't notice its the exact same as the remaster. rest in peace goat.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →i cry every night knowing the greatest 3d sonic game was delisted and replaced with a version without any mod support
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This worked perfectly fine when I bought it. I have no idea what has changed, and as of today. In 2026: It does not work. I am NOT going to download yet another modloader in order to get a singular game to work. That's ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ and should not be required to get a game to work. Currently unplayable. Buy it if you want to troubleshoot. Not worth the cost if you have to solve functionality issues. Period.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Literally the only sonic game you need to play. Sonic generations saved my family from being killed by Sonic 4. If Sonic generations was a person, I would get freaky. Everything about this game is proof that humanity is worth keeping around. I would DIE for sonic generations.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →People who care about this game getting delisted after Shadow Generations came out make me laugh. Like you had an entire decade to buy the game on PC, it constantly went on sale on Steam making it cheap asf, and you never bought it. Now there's a new, modern, almost objectively better version that released with brand new content in the base game, plus an entire side game with just as much content that reviewed insanely positively, and now you're pissed you can't buy the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ version? This…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →lots of nostalgia. but that's kind of the only thing this game is about so like, i guess you win? whatever unleashed pc port when
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The 2D sonic missions are really fun and I like all the little challenges, it reminds me of old sonic games. The 3D sonic missions ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ suck and are buggy as hell and I hate them, it reminds me of old sonic games.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →sonic and sonic go fast fast make me happy good game
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game changed my life. It has indoctrinated me at a young age to become a sonic fan. This has in turn made my 2010s life much harder. I WOULD recommend this game on my worst enemy, AND my best enemy.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →high quality game it offers 2d and 3d stages, interisting plot though the final boss could have been better it was the first 3d game I got and I loved it
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is absolutely fantastic. The level design is great, the story is entertaining albeit its simplicity, and although I generally recommend getting the newer Sonic X Shadow Generations, this game is still a joy from top to bottom.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Peak of the series along with Sonic Forces and Sonic Mania.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →SONIC DEGENERATION I've seen many reviews and gamers tout that this game is one of the best that "modern" sonic has to offer. I would say that that's a flat out lie. They say this game is a mix of classic 2D Sonic and a mix of modern 3D Sonic but this game has a clear bias towards staying a 2D game and when the game DOES decide to be 3D the game quite literally plays itself. With the over reliance on the BOOST mechanic the game values being a spectacle over actually having substance. Being a…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game was peak one of my favourite childhood games i played can’t wait to play sonic x shadow generations
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Sega has a real issue with delisting their old games. Nonetheless this is basically a perfect sonic game. Give it to a friend and they will enjoy it
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →After sinking more than 15 hours of my time over multiple days and months, it’s very much a wonderful game to play and it still holds up NEARLY 15 years later and it STILL looks gorgeous to this day. I also love how cute CLASSIC Sonic actually is. It’s not perfect, as it depends on legacy stuff including .net Framework but it can be resolved by using a all in one installer by googling “net framework installer all in one and getting it from tech power up.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Sonic Generations is another case of Sega restricting availability of Sonic games on Steam. The only way to obtain it now is through a $50 bundle with many other older games, or by buying Sonic x Shadow Generations for $50 alone. This is not the right way to treat consumers. I feel that given when Sonic Generations came out it must have been a breath of fresh air compared to all the other Sonic games that released around the same time, but I personally had a bad experience making me dislike…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Pretty good game but the final boss is just straight up garbage.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →if i have this i should have sonicxshadow generations too.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →i love this game!!! i played the SXSG version when it came out, and just recently i got the original 2 days before my birthday all of the levels are really awesome and i love both sonics movesets

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A celebration of Sonic's past by reimaging a lot of levels and bosses featured in past games. These levels are genuinely very different in this game, with entirely new layouts and even the gameplay is completely different, featuring a more modern boost style and a classic 2D style, for every level including many that were never brought out in those styles before. This game is even very good with no previous Sonic experience, it was actually one of my first experiences with Sonic and it…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →amazing game, amazing mods, but buns story
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Super fun, remember watching the cutscenes and gameplay when I was younger so it was cool to finally play it. The remastered music is so damn good.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A ode to joy to both modern and classic style gameplay of Sonic Games that did everything right...except the story which is passable. It's a game that does play with your nostalgia a bit, but with great level designs and replay ability to beat your times of friends and against the world, it is well worth the pick up.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Zoom out could solve sonic's main problem with side perspective, but it's automatic, not manual.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →DO NOT PUT MARIO FROM SM64 INTO THIS GAME.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I tried to like it but the menu, and controller support is trash. Also parts of the game where you're just watching the game play itself is boring. It's alright when the controller works, but it's just too meh finish.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I played this a long time ago on ps3, would recommend to buy on a steam sale and play through it at least once, great sonic game.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Gameplay wise is very exhilarating but the story is kinda ignored and isn't all too much. Still very fun if you want go at high speeds.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →after A DECADE of not being able to start it, the game randomly decided to run. wow! my issue was a common issue, which I found convos about, btw. but sadly, I cannot recommend this game at all. while I love og titles, like Adventure, or Heroes, been a Sonic fan for 2 decades, this one has INSANE amount of bugs. 10/6 times I died due to a bug happening. it is also just...boring? you need to replay the same stage with stupid missions, to get further. absolutely not something I expected from an…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Buggy mess. Game crashes (for everyone) Physics don't work, gimmicks don't work, platforming doesn't work. Crappy port. No bounce ability for 3d sonic. Dash/boost will get you killed anywhere in 3d space. Luckily you can't easily buy this anymore. Let's see if the shadow generations version fixed anything.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →sucks only rich people can get this version still really fun
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Da goat is dead... The remaster is actually quite good though. I'm not extremely dissapointed. Anyway this game requires no mods for the game to be enjoyable for some reason. Why would Sega do this??
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Great game however WHY DOESNT CLASSIC SONIC SPEAK THIS ALONE RUINS A BIG CHUCK OF GENERATIONS FOR ME. Exploring the levels and finding faster routes while collecting the red star rings were a highlight for me (if you get this game be sure to 100% and to S rank everything)
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Been playing this since 2011, easily one of the best games in the series. Must play for any Sonic fan.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The best version of modern sonic there is and in my opinion, the best sonic game to date, also arguably the best sonic game to start with for newcomers. The game has near endless replay ability and that's not even counting the insane mod support this game has.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →An all time classic. Had a blast getting all achievements. Highly recommend playing Sonic Generations. Also, screw the Time Eater. Genuinely annoying boss fight. D tier.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Sonic Generations is such a fun game with great level design, an amazing soundtrack, and tons of replayability, especially if you enjoy speedrunning and trying to beat your own times. The modding scene is easily one of its biggest strengths, with custom characters swaps, new levels, music replacements, gameplay changes, and even complete fan made projects that give the game a lot of extra life. Compared to the 2024 version (Sonic X Shadow Generations), the original PC release has a much more…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →greatest feeling of nostalgia after that many years. can't believe 4 year old me could finish this game.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Game is fun.... at first. The old school sonic games are infinitely better.. or Sonic Mania.. or old 3D sonic as well. But this one is okay I suppose just be prepared to have to replay stages.... often. Get this on sale or not at all idk it's got a lot of "lore" and lil videos.. it's cute but not the best Sonic game ever. 6/10
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →it's a masterpiece, please get the bundle or get a steam key.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →this game is a little too easy, i s ranked all the maingame levels, all 25 of them, 9 act 1s, 9 act 2's, 3 emerald bosses, 3 era bosses and a final boss. but still, pretty good game. just i had to mod it so it gives quality of life, this game is just old. okay, now that i 100%ed it, dude. this is still a good game but bro, this game is really broken, at least this version is. and again little too easy at the most part. needs more difficulty balance. man
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →damn imagine if Sonic games were as good as their first two levels
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →super good game use mods to make it better ngl
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →really solid level design and gameplay. great mod support too. yes it's short, and the story is pretty bad, but it does little to change my opinion of the game.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's a very good game but it's so unoptimized that it struggled to maintain 60fps on a 2060. If you want to play, get the game on PS3 or Xbox 360, don't waste your money on the trash X shadow version. It has worse cutcenes
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The best sonic game oat
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If you've never played a sonic game this is the one to start with. Awesome game.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Good game, just get Shadow Generations instead. It's the same except Shadow Generations has higher res fonts and cutscenes. One of the best Sonic games ever.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Best Modern Sonic game, Beat it like 12 times across my PS3 to now, getting Shadow Gens is a better idea as of now, still an amazing game, I love it.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Generations is the best boost style Sonic game for sure! Just thinking this game is 15 years old this year makes me feel so old, but it's still definetly worth the play! This version of it isn't available anymore, but the Sonic x Shadow gens version seems to be just as good!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →One of the few best Sonic games in the last 15 years.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The goat one of my favorite Sonic games also Shadow generations would be on this list but you know this is the original but yeah good Sonic game and the remaster even gets the best Shadow game great game play it if you can buy both versions it's that good
