Soulblight tells a typical fantasy quest-to-save-the-world story -- albeit with some interesting, but ultimately irrelevant technology -- in a very disjointed and confusing manner. I'm not sure if something's been lost in translation or if it's intended to be mysterious, but I found it frustrating and pretentious, to the point where I lost interest in what the game was telling me.…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Soulblight does a lot of things that have been done many times before. It's a top-down dungeon crawling action RPG with a stealth system. In many ways, it's a lot like so many games before it. It has those familiar roguelike elements (or "roguelite" since it's not actually like Rogue as a game), with the permadeath and procedural generation that form the pillars of the style. There's some crafting and survival mechanics thrown in as well, which are pretty basic, but well-implemented (I'd prefer…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Not an easy game. Top view and few objects to take with you to the next level. The objective is the growth of the character by following some choices that determine the power of the abilities. The combat is not what you expect from this type of game and is not very "fun". The idea is good but it needed to be explored a little more. My rating 6/10 to take at discount
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is chock full of good ideas, has an interesting premise, and is by far one of the prettiest top-down games I've ever played. I do appreciate the obscurity, even regarding the game's mechanics, as it is easy enough to figure things out before long. However... for all its strengths, the keystone of the game is cracked: the combat is simply not fun. Fighting is relatively one dimensional: you approach an enemy, grab them or don't, and then attack with varying amounts of charge,…

positive · AI labelView post →The game's really well polished. I've been following the project development for quite some time and I'm really glad the game is finally here to play. The difficulty is quite high and the learning curve is steep, but achieving every step of progress feels really rewarding because of that :) You can see a lot of hard work at every step you make. The graphics are matching to each other, every fragment of the visible screen has a lot of detail and effects put together to work for a great…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The concept, world building, and graphical style are all fantastic, however the "rogue-like/rogue-lite" replay grind quickly becomes tedious. I felt like I spent most of my time opening boxes, only to die and have to do it all over again. I would love to see some kind of progression system, so that each failed run doesn't just feel like a loss.

It was HARD FOUGHT, with a final score of 15-14, Seraphon pulling out a narrow victory. Love this game, its very tight and feels fast paced! #WarhammerCommunity

positive · AI labelView post →Amazing game. Not a fan of Top Down view and Roguelike genre in general but this game is something else. Seemingly simple but complex. Synergy and Taint system that can help and backfire is fantastically done and can completely change how you play the game. Replayability is high because of said taint system that can be combined into multiple taints making you insanely strong. Combinations are seemingly limitless. Combat is fun and tense cause every mistake will cost you a wound. 5 wounds and…

My Oldblood on Carnosaur died and got back up to hold an objective right at the end. Awesome stuff! #warhammer #ageofsigmar #warhammercommunity

Some clever play from the Changeling help secure victory 33 to 28 with a near never ending combat between the blues and skellies in the middle #WarhammerCommunity #AgeOfSigmar

Unga'd too close the the bunga. Playing a bit too aggressive with the smash keeper. Gotta dial that back. Day 2 3-2?
neutral · AI labelView post →I hate giving out negative reviews. This game has great ideas. The taint system is really cool, and the idea behind the combat system is neat. But everything is just so painfully executed. Combat is too punishing and opaque, I had to watch a 3rd-party tutorial to even begin to understand the basics. Stealth is slow, which the game punishes, and the random levels are poorly designed for how it feels like the game wants you to play. I, again, needed to watch someone else explain the first boss…

positive · AI labelView post →The rpg aspect of the game is great, but the combat is seriously lacking. It really ruins the whole experience for me.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If you just want to go ahead and click on enemies to attack, this game is not for you. If you want to spend some time to understand combat, taints and item mechanic, If you want to discover a lore as a result of your hard work and be proud by overcoming challenges, this game is for you.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →very disappointed. some really interesting ideas ruined by terrible, sluggish movement and combat. had hoped for something like 'unexplored' with a little more depth, but 'unexplored' is far and away a better playing game. im hoping at some point this gets more fluid movement and combat, and better controls... then i might revisit it...

neutral · AI labelView post →There is a reason why i play on a PC. If the first thing i see is a "BEST PLAYED WITH A CONTROLLER" and there is no way to configure the keys then its a straight downvote! If the developers got no skill or are too lazy to add PC support, they should stay on console! Maybe its a good game, i will never know. Got it with a bundle, so this is the calmed down version 2 review. Would have refunded otherwise. One PLUS tho: They offer a free Demo.

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Soulblight suffers from two of the most common issues games might suffer from. First of all it's not fun, and second, the first problem was addressed by adding a lot of everything. Maybe it's just a boarding problem, but with such a start, it's hard to go past the first 20 minutes. The conclusion is a game that plays clumsily and slowly, confuses the player and doesn't seem to have much to tell at all. I am always sorry when I give a thumb down to an indie game, but definitely I didn't enjoy…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This should be a mixed review. TLDR : This stone requires some serious cutting before becoming a gem. The game has potential, the main idea of playing along your flaws is pretty cool... But a large part of this potential is wasted by poor execution. And yet there is hope. First and foremost, the controls. They are by far the worst thing in this game. Playing with the keyboard and mouse is possible, but it's a nightmare. With a controller, it's slightly less terrible, but it still is really…

positive · AI labelView post →This game don't allow you to customize keyboard's layout, only to choose between pre-made one. As a left-handed that doesn't play with a controler, I can't play this game.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's just too unforgiving for the average player and it's hard to understand what the market is for whom the developer thought this was aimed for. The main issue is the combat which is just janky and rigid and there is nothing enjoyable or fun about it and you will probably try to avoid the combat as much as you can. That however is nigh impossible as the gameloop seems to consist of repeating the same exact thing in every map and that is looking for some gear in random chests while enemies are…

Sadly the relentless undead proved too much for the brave Freeguild, losing 34 to 42 #WarhammerCommunity #AgeOfSigmar
positive · AI labelView post →Looked promising, but the difficult gameplay mechanics lowered my "fun level" until eventually I gave up on it.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Review copy provided by developer via Curator Connect One of the biggest ironies in gaming is when you have an extremely unique-looking game with extremely samey gameplay. It happens a lot with games made more with artistry than mechanics in mind, but any title can fall prey to its gameplay loop becoming tedious. Soulblight certainly comes with a strong aesthetic and story foundation, but very little to recommend beyond that. I thought there was potential in the strange, twisting realms of…

You don't need half the frickin' interface jerking onto the screen EVERY BLOODY TIME YOU OPEN A BOX OR SHOP OR INVENTORY like some psychotic popup ad. What the frick? It's like devs these days are all insecure as hell about their terrible graphics they feel they have to compensate with idiotically stupid interface screwups. The default kb/m controls are terrible too, who the hell thought that was…

neutral · AI labelView post →This game suffers from stuffing far too many mechanics into a game. I believe the thought was more would equal better, but a bunch of poorly thought out mechanics added into a procedural generated dungeon does not make for interesting situations. There is inventory management between runs, some transmutation mechanic, full equipment loadout, curses on equipment. Vending machines that require exact change through bartering. An hp system, stamina system, grappling mechanic, blocking mechanic,…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →With no ability to rebind buttons on my controller, this game is actually unplayable in its current state. The standard mappings are unintuitive; in a world where a lot of good examples in the genre already exist, this is careless! Will probably hop back in and change my review when I'm actually able to play it properly... which means, if proper controls are implemented!
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Soulblight has great graphics, interesting world, okay combat and good controls, but it gets boring and repetitive real fast. The rinse and repeat over and over again, is extremely tedious and unenjoyable. Too bad really, because it has a lot going for it in terms of looks and mechanics, but it's lacking in the fun factor.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Early first impressions, but it seems interesting. I'd recommend going in blind, and just figuring stuff out as you go. There is a tutorial that introduces you to the basic combat mechanics, and there are NPC's that will tell you how some of the mechancis work, but I'm having a lot of fun just finding stuff out. Just realize sooner than I did that there is more than one kind of chest. The tutorial only shows you what one looks like, but there are at least 4 others that I know of that I missed…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I'm not entirely sure what the artwork is meant to convey--am I fighting robots? Giant flowers? Eldritch horrors? I have zero idea what I'm up against, and the controls hurt worse than the monsters.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I couldn't play this game longer than 10 minutes because of the horrible, unresponsive and dull combat. If you make a game like this, with interesting ideas while messing up the gameplay, you just didn't understand the task. With so many amazing and high quality roguelikes out there, this game just doesn't deliver enough.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's an arcade roguelike. If you like such then perhaps it might interest you more than me, however, I don't find the combat entertaining but rather annoying. It's fast and simple, but the keyboard controls make it infuriating. It was made with consoles in mind (the first screen after running the game warns you to use a controller), so perhaps with a gamepad it would be less annoying, but I'll just pass it. Even with controller I don't image I'd have fun.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game is by far not that good, that it promises. It get´s boring really fast... I tried to give the game a chance, but it feels like work (without fun) every time. Sadly I can´t refund it now anymore...

positive · AI labelView post →I really wanted to give this game a chance but the bugs killed it. The bizarre controls and visual style make it hard to understand what is happening. So, I looked up beginner's guides to better understand it and gave it another try. But then the controls reversed and stopped working randomly until my character died. Then on the next go around a popup notification (that blocks the view of the center of the screen) refused to go away no matter what button I pressed and I was forced to quit.…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Soulblight is a handheld (Nintendo Switch)/console game that's also been put on Steam as a bit of an afterthought, as it's very much designed for the handheld/console gaming audience. It's a "roguelike" top down retro brawler with lightweight RPG elements. The only notable differentiator in the game is the progression system uses the concept of collecting "traits" rather than XP or whatever else. Unfortunately this turns out to be more convoluted than enjoyable, a twist on a mediocre…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game has many interesting mechanics such as the various interesting talents you receive which could be a good or a bad factor throughout your gameplay. However, the talent, the weapon whatever you get does not matter at all at the end of the game because you will encounter a boss which you have to use the mechanism in the game to "kill it". These mechanisms sometimes lock you up in the corner and you are dead... This is just an example but I can give many others here: The food factor,…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Really cool style, ideas, and polish… but the combat system... I don't enjoy it so much that I will no longer be playing the game and I’m ok with missing out on everything else the game has to offer. I love core gameplay systems above all else and combat systems are number 1 on that list so I am quite particular on this facet of gaming. If combat system importance falls lower on your list below things like style, design decisions, art direction, and lore… you might find something here to enjoy.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →There are some great things in this game. THe visuals are wonderful. The character designs of NPCs great. There's a great mysteriousness about the world. However the gameplay is so weird. It throws too many enemies at you early on so it's hard to want to proceed any further. The overhead thing is okay but it really doesn't make you feel like you are in the wor.ld and kind of breaks the immersion as you never know what you are fighting without a visual like how the NPCs are. The whole grip thing…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →First game of AoS4 in the books. Played Skaven vs Soulblight. My opponent realized he forgot half his zombies after I took these pictures. Those big blocks of zombies are tough. I was feeling good after killing Manfred turn 2 but the hoards of undead were just too much for the rats. A close game.
positive · AI labelView post →Soulblight brings some interesting action RPG elements to a roguelike game and its idea of replacing the usual experience points with personality traits is worthy of praise, as is its injuries system. Where Soulblight fares less well is on its rather frustratingly difficult combats and a somewhat repetitive nature on the short term, which adding to its unambitious art style leave the feeling that thie game could have gone further.
