An insanely frustrating experience where there are so, so many fun and creative ideas on display but the execution is so poorly executed that I can't justify purchasing this game unless you get it as a gift or at a REALLY steep discount. The game operates on a rhythm based system with copy and pasted assets for each level throughout each world and at most like what, ten enemies? If even that?? There are multiple …

TLDR: Its fun for a few hours before it becomes mind numbingly dull. A mismash of fantastic ideas that are glued together with poor execution. Also the demon chick is hot. Pros: -The music is great. Issues you may have with following the beat can largely be attenuated with the metronome option. -The art is great, if a little inconsistent in style. -The levels look incredible. A little known fact about working on games is that you don't always get to enjoy playing the game itself in a casual sense. But I did for this one. I've written music for games for a while, and I can confidently say that this game is as fun to play as it was to write for. I had the opportunity to play with friends, strangers, and streamers alike. It has been the most fun I've ever had with a game release. The story …

The gunplay is fine, but overly punishing. You really feel like you have to stick to the beat if you wanna do anything and I think the game holds that rule a little too tight. Really fun game that incorporates rythm mechanic but kinda falls short because it becomes repetitive and adds little mechanics later on the game. Left it halfway through the story but I do believe it is a really nice game that attemps a fresh look to the bullet hell genre.

Great concept for a game. Good graphics and music. However, the music system is linked to the bpm of the song, not the real groove that the player hears. That means that I'm grooving along deep in the pocket and the game is like "nah, you missed the rhythm." I'm like bro, I've been a musician for 21 years. I'm not goated, but I have an idea of what I'm talking about.

What a mess... Nothing in this game is making any sense. Devs did their best into making any song playable, never even questioning if they should have in the first place. The result is what we see right there. The whole game has no soul. Levels aren't fun to play, enemy archetypes are ranging from "These won't ever hit you" to "One frame reaction at 240BPM", and the whole setlist is poorly selected -not saying these aren't good, most of them are. They just don't belong in a rhythm game. Why…

The (unfortunately short) cutscenes are the best part of the game. Honestly, maybe the only good part of the game. Kinda seems like the project would have been better if it wasn't a game at all, and they just stuck to animation. There are some very strange design choices that are at serious odds with one another and despite the time I've put into the game, I can't recommend it to pretty much anyone. The devs don't really seem to know what they wanted out of their gameplay loop. You're…

TL;DR: The game is promising, but there's just nothing there, songs are forgettable, combat is repetitive and bland, the characters and looter aspect offer very shallow customization, and the level design goes against the very scoring system of the game. 3/10, don't buy. This game suffers from being an amazing concept with terrible execution, surface level stuff is pretty bad, characters, story, the world and most designs are very bland and boring, but the gameplay is just downright bad. First off, this isn't a rhythm game. There are no rhythms in this game, there is only the "pulse" or raw bpm of songs. It is however a game about keeping to the beat. You press the attack button on every beat, even while there are no enemies around because why not. The game has a tedious leveling and gearing system which serves no purpose. I've played 5 hours and I've already experienced all/most songs. The enemies attack patterns does get faster at higher difficulties, but I just don't…

I feel like we need to stop falling for the trick of "import your own music into our rhythm game" kind of games. While it is a tempting proposal, it should ultimately serve as a red flag to warn that the game will be generic and repetitive. Indeed, how could one make a theoretically infinite amount of levels without resorting to some kind of template system. This game is no exception. Even when you are playing the levels within the campaign, nothing feels intentionally designed. I kept seeing…

Like others have said, the game's got an amazing concept! ...and terrible execution. You can feel the game BEGGING to be something worthwhile, but it's held back by game design that seems to carry a "style first, stability later" mindset. It expects you to follow the beat, but can't effectively communicate where the beat is, because of the chaos all around you. From my experience, in a good rhythm game, you can sink into a "groove" where irrelevant details fade away, leaving you with that…

I really wanted to love this game, and I wish steam had a neutral rating. The core concept is solid. The music sounds great. What draws me to neutral territory is: The game's UI, music, and moment to moment gameplay directly fight against the core concept of the game. UI: Everything is on the far edge of the screen, while your character remains fully centered. Music: Half of the songs do not have a discernible beat; Don't get me wrong, the songs themselves are great, they just don't all…

But some other lesser known ones that are good are: Cursed to Golf - 2d golfing roguelike, no combat or anything. There’s a bunch of different cards to make the ball do different stuff. tl;dr: I think Soundfall is an OKAY rhythm game, but compared to EXCELLENT rhythm games, like Just Shapes and Beats (more-interesting challenges), and Sayonara Wild Hearts (more-interesting aesthetics and story), I don't think I'd recommend Soundfall. --- I'm not sure what the value-add is for grinding level-ups & equipment in a rhythm game. I would give this game a qualified positive review. The true selling point of this game is the ability to import your own music and then jam to your tunes while mowing down enemies. I found the rhythm timing fairly forgiving and usually did not have any problem. Some songs just seem to have an invisible beat, but maybe that's just me. I'm sure a drummer or real musician would do better. I had the most luck with extremely heavy bass and drum sections jamming the beat into my ear in an…

This game started of very pretty promising, sadly it falls off more and more the longer you play it. Its good at what it wants to be, but it just isn't as fun to be hitting a button at the same speed for the entirety of a song... Also the feeling of progress just isn't really there. A rhythm game that never progresses beyond the baseline. The entire time I played, even with greater "intensities" I clicked the same monotonous pattern, but sometimes faster or slower depending on the BPM, regardless of the movement of the actual music. Now that I think about it, the player is just a glorified metronome. It doesn't help that the enemies do not follow the music at all and attack whenever and if its off-beat, get ♥♥♥♥♥♥. Also, missing too many notes complete disables your…

If you want rhythm game, you'll be better off getting AudioSurf or Crypt of the NecroDancer. If you want game where you can shoot things to music, you'll be better off getting DOOM Eternal or Metal: Hellsinger. Soundfall doesn't do well as rhythm game, music in it is kinda weird, there's couple of tracks that have silent parts, but they still expect you to mash some beat. Beat of silence? Soundfall is a very repetitive rhythm game. None of the songs really stand out, the campaign levels all feel the same, there is a only a handful of unique enemies which you will be fighting on repeat. After having finished HiFi Rush and Metal: Hellsinger I was hoping Soundfall would be on similar level, but sadly it's nowhere near as good. It doesn't do anything terribly wrong and it works well, but is just not good enough to be worth the time. The price of this game is just a cherry on top.…

I bought at 95% off on sale, and it was worth every % of that discount. This game is very "not fully thought out", even to a dangerous degree and I will explain. The bullet hell shooting is okay, even feels good at times, but it's not anything special. I want to talk about MUSIC. So you play a Diablo style procedural generated map attached to a biome and song. The song plays on loop while you're in mission with a beat map that gives you bonuses for performing actions on beat. Cool! So what…

This game has a great concept, and the gameplay is pretty fun. However, I feel that it lacks the polish necessary for a finished product. This is especially obvious in the UI, which, in my opinion, looks bland and uninspired. It feels like I'm playing the early access beta version of a game rather than a finished product. If it had more visual polish, more depth, and enemy variety, then I would recommend it.

I don't have much experience with either looter-shooters or rhythm games, so I don't have a lot to compare it to. It turns out that I might be very into both, because I put almost five hours into it the first day I played it. There is something really satisfying about learning the choreography. This is not a game I can recommend. If you want a rhythm game, go play Crypt of the Necrodancer, not this. This says it is a "looter shooter" which is true to some degree, but you are constrained to levels on a map, no quests or anything. The story is horrible and the gameplay is mid at best. 08/27/2023 EDIT: After going through my library and stumbling across this game again, I decided to do a little research. Back in May of 2022, a news article was posted about creating one's own beatmaps. This is, honestly, insulting. This is akin to the dev saying "We're aware there's beat detection issues, but we're not going to fix it. Fix it yourselves." As much as knowing how to make custom beatmaps is nice if the game could properly handle automatic generation, it comes across more as…

I don't usually leave reviews but I think this game is really fun and has a lot of potential, but there are a few things holding me back. Most of my criticism is around the use of imported songs from your own library. The game analyzes the overall BPM more than the beat for individual parts- so there are times when the beat does not necessarily match up with the song. I wouldn't mind waiting longer for the game to analyze a song for a more accurate beatmap to be generated. Maybe it can even be…

Simply put, from a rhythm game point of view, the difficulty ramps up enormously after the second area and it's simply because of poor level design and the enemy's hp scaling way too high. It is insane to ask of the player to not get hit, while shooting at enemies that shoot back, on a tight corridor, while an indestructible tower also shoots at you, and all of this, while keeping the rhythm, because if you mess up even once, your combo doesn't matter, all you are getting is a poor quality…

Why do i care about all these different weapons i can loot or use when I'm just going to be tapping LMB at the same BPM for the entire game? This is a game where the little problems just build up over time until they become unmanageable so I'm flipping my final verdict to negative. I mentioned the annoying stage hazards. That might just be me though, I don't have much patience for storytelling of this kind unless it's really engaging. I feel like the gameplay would be a lot more interesting if it was *less* fast. The central premise of the game is flawed. You click on the beat to shoot, but that plays a new shooting sound so now you've got two slightly offset beats. Then it's a projectile attack, so it travels a bit and hits something, and that adds a third beat that's randomly offset from the other two depending on how far away you are from things. Then you're moving and aiming freely, which are not on the beat at all, and you have to respond to enemy movements which are random. It's a total…

The base layer is an average twin-stick shooter with diablo-style loot. The twist is that every action on the beat of the music is greatly enhanced, and every off-beat action is greatly penalized. The main issue is that the game only recognizes inputs on the core beat, rather than anything that matches the music. As a result, it never feels like you're jamming out, but more like you're trying to be a human metronome. Overall it's pretty fun, and gets my recommendation if it's on sale.

The song selection and art style is pretty good, but the overall game play is rather repetitive. The maps are oddly limited, and if you feel like you've played the map before, its because you have. The maps are often rotated around between levels. The other main issue I have is that between each level the BPM is inconsistent so it becomes a lot harder to "stay on the beat"

aheMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM so, here is the deal this game starts with great concept of playing the game with beat element but BUT the songs are inconsistent and dont deliver on the premise that its fast the game start getting boring after you kill the QUEEN ( OMG nice design ) after that the game become dull and boring wont recommend to anyone UNLESS you get it with your friends Greeting HI again, after finishing the whole game the game play itself has no issue other than some maps have slow…

Co-op twin-stick shooter meets rhythm game. It’s kinda fun for the first hour, but it gets old fast. Whether you’re on beat or not barely affects your attacks, so the rhythm part feels pointless. Loot farming is the main grind, but it’s not enjoyable. The story’s basically nonexistent, and the challenges don’t feel worth the effort. I personally dont really enjoyed it. It was nice but some stuff felt wrong. The positive side: Some of the music in the game are really nice to listen to. The Gameplay can feel nice. The art looks nice but somehow really generic. The negatives: getting all achievments is really hard. As you need to finish every level without loosing the combo and hitting every beat. And also kill a high amount of enemies achievment that is just too grindy.

Soundfall, developed by Drastic Games and published by Noodlecake, is a vibrant and inventive fusion of rhythm and action RPG elements that manages to carve out its own niche in an increasingly experimental genre space. Released on Steam in 2022, the game tasks players with battling through musically reactive dungeons, syncing their actions to the beat of a dynamic soundtrack. It’s a rare example of a game that commits fully to the concept of rhythm as not just a thematic element but the very…

i am simply not good enough to play above the lowest difficulty. however, the game still is great - covers a great range of music and locales, while cooking up gimmicks for each environment that are mostly not repeated gameplay is tight, rewards getting better at the game, and is satisfying to pull off a good time all around

Just not fun. I played through the entire first map, completing every mission trying to discover what the hook of this game was supposed to be. The combat is easy enough, as your character will turn to face nearby enemies as you fire on the beat. There is a sword to alternate melee attacks with ranged shots. There is a very short dash to quickly escape attacks. None of these abilities feel like they synergize. The songs are pleasant to listen to, but your attacks don't add anything to the…
