What players are saying
Counted from the reviewers’ own thumbs up/down on the 225 English Steam reviews we collected, not by the AI. Valve’s all-language rating: Mostly Positive (18,950 of 25,477 positive).
Many players praise the game's immersion, sound design, and realistic WWII combat. [1][2][3] A significant number of reviewers complain about a very low player count, calling the game dead or nearly dead. [4][5][6] Some players criticize the developers for making unwanted changes and neglecting bug fixes. [7][8][9]

Review with 2000 hours played. Offworld & Mercury Arts destroying the game since 2024. It was nice, until they took over and promised fixing the bugs, adding needed features and reviving the game, that what we who kept the game alive thought so. Instead they remade a lot of features that nobody asked for, added in things nobody asked for, added chapters (new maps and guns) instead of fixing the bugs and ironically …

This game is pretty much dead. Theres only one server that has players enough to play that doesnt require mods, also I accidently team killed some toxic guy who flipped out and now i think im banned lol so the one guy thats admin in the only server that has more the 3 people can literally decide whether you get to play the game you paid for or not so no please dont spend your money. It was probably fun when it had …

Niche game - definitely flawed but still deserves to be more popular than it is. Worth buying if you want a WW2 milsim. Tons of content for the money: 24 maps (with variable weather/time of day), military units from 9 different countries, 102 playable vehicles, 160+ weapons, and many mods that add even more. Pros: - THE BEST TANK COMBAT IN GAMING (more detail later in review) - Infantry gameplay is peak when your …

Criminally underrated. It's clunky but it's fantastic. Sound design is the best in any WW2 FPS I've played before. Genuinely one of the best WW2 sims out there. It's insane to me that hell let loose is so much more popular when the only thing it has that is actually better than squad 44 is it is polished better and receives more frequent content.
Summarised from 34 of the 242 public posts collected about this game; every point cites the posts behind it ([n] opens the post) and the split is counted from the posts’ own ratings. Updated Oct 11, 2026. How summaries are made
52% of the 225 Steam reviewers we collected recommend Squad 44. The complaint that keeps coming up: very low player count, often only one full server. Deal-breaker or nitpick?

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →No, Squad 44 or Post Scriptum is not dying. An honest review of the game and why I am recommending it. V1.1 of the review The Gameplay Since I am someone who is looking at a game's gameplay first whilst considering its quality, I am naturally going to tackle this subject first. While Squad 44 is a First Person Shooter game, it emphasizes heavily on the communication, coordination, combat awareness that a Military Game can provide. In other words, no, you are not going to win because you…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The Developers continue to make changes that no one in the player base has asked for and refuse to explain their actions coherently, I highly recommend not picking up this game in its current state.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game used to be the pinnacle of tactical WWII shooters. Back when it was Post Scriptum, I had a smooth experience with constant 120–180 FPS. Even under heavy artillery fire, explosions, and intense combat, it never dropped below 90 FPS. It felt crisp, responsive, and professional. Now, under current development, it has become a technical disaster: Performance Decay: Currently, I’m only getting 90 FPS while idling on the shooting range—and even that is riddled with constant…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I love Squad 44. It is genuinely one of my favorite WWII games I have ever played, which makes leaving a negative review frustrating. A lot of us fell in love with this game back when it was Post Scriptum around 2018. It has always had a smaller player base, but the foundation was there. The immersion, the tank combat, the sound design, the scale, the weapons, the vehicles, and the overall atmosphere are still some of the best you will find in a WWII shooter. The problem is not the game…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Great game. It needs more marketing to increase player base and bring more people over from squad to finally start competing more with HLL.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →At its peak this game was by far the best ww2 shooter on the market, unfortunately those years are gone and the current state of the game is a very loose version of life support, repeatedly poor prioritisation from the devs have left the game with a tiny community and the matches never play as they did in its golden age. RIP post scriptum you are missed

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Dead game. doesnt matter how smooth it runs or graphically speaking, a large scale multiplayer mil sim game with no more than 150 players (1 1/2 servers worth good luck getting in one). no vanilla servers active ofcourse. i got it on sale for $8 and still feel a little ripped ngl.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →To save the people who only read the first line time, don't buy this in its current state, it is a dead game. While I find this game more fun than its direct competitors, it has really regressed into simply a misery simulator. Which I suppose in that regard is quite on brand for the source material it is trying to cover. What remains of this dev team really needs to take a step back, bring out a whiteboard, and just write "is this actually fun?" on the top. Then work their way down through…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →games been dead for years now i do not recommend but it was the best game ever it felt like at its peak
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I think the game is very beautiful and fun but is mostly abandoned, atp i think Chernobyl has better population numbers than this game which is a shame
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Absolute dead garbage. Any time I've tried to play there is MAX 1 server with more than 20 people. If you do find a server there is no communication, no explanation on what any of the markers mean, and if you want tutorials you have to go and find an online server because they can't even make local play tutorials work properly. Don't waste your money. Offworld is just killing every game they pick up.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →So..hahaha, i ve played my fair share (400+hs) now the base game is great, just awesome, even those dummys who had problems with the "sprinting SIM" where just in the wrong place, these is a real WW2 game as close as real as it gets, BUT the current state (2025), it just horrid. Devs really beat to death these game, when the Pacific Update came out i suspected things were bad, but it got worst, the game is Dead (am not talking about these zombie updates). Some servers are active here and there,…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →its fun but i believe they should integrate squad 44 and beyound the wire into squad and then we might see more players
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Post scriptum, my lovely PS... It's a shame the game is dead and will likely never be revived. After the OW situation, there was hope, but alas, it's vanished into thin air. The only thing that can save this project is to make it free or at least give it away for a limited time like the terrible HLL. Don't buy it now, under any circumstances.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I bought and tried to play a while ago and all the veteran players were complete a holes that refused to offer any guidance and expected you to know every inch of the map. Now I know Its not their responsibility to baby sit but with the low player counts in this game...how much blame really lies with the devs(who provide a great bootcamp) v the current community mindset. From what ive played its a spectacular game but held down by its apparently snobbish vets and lack of patience to develop new…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game is dead, and they pivoted away from the pacific content which is the only reason I ever bothered to get the game. The only small group of players exclusively plays modded servers to fight on the ostfront, so unless you need another ostfront or western europe ww2 squad-style game, continue playing the other 4 you probably already have. At this point, the game is a waste of money, and if you haven't played it long, refund it.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Game seems like it would be good. The tutorials are pretty good, the guns are punchy and fun, the teamwork element seems exciting. Only problem is that the game is literally 100% dead. There are whole 6 players online right now. :(
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Game became totally unplayable, very weak developer and QA team: 1. Lot's of critical bugs, well known - with Anti Cheat, that makes windows crash. They promised to fix it in '25, now its '26 and nothing was done. 2. Was able to get through that bug, huh? Then get ready for next one - game is trying to start while updates were not installed. No, you can't just download fresh version. You need to install game, and then need to wait for other updates to be installed ONE BY ONE. 3. Ready to wait…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is dead game for South east asia gamers. Zero servers. Zero players. even no PVE so atleast can get some fun. why launch dead game. only few servers up in EU and NA but the ping 300+. GG. Dont waste money in this game.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Dead/10 And to the sweats that will try to argue: Having 1 high ping server (2 if you are very lucky) active during a pre holiday weekend after a free weekend and a price drop doesn't make it not so.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Game died due to lack of marketing, though i will admit that its vision is there, just not marketed properly by offworld after rebranding, i liked this game when i bought it but now theres only 1-2 servers (if you're lucky) that still have a dedicated playerbase. defo needs a revival because its got more content than HLL will probably ever have
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Dead game. Don't buy. Stress simulator. Work is more fun. A $2000+ computer doesn't run this game well. Graphics are dated and junk. People don't want to play squad leader. There is a lack of spawns. If you make spawns, you drive trucks and use a shovel for the majority of your play time. It's not a game, it's unpaid labor. 1 full server daily, empties by the time NA gets on. Developers have left the discord. No signs of life. Modders said development is over.…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I want there to be more and more players...its a great game....just lacks players.......it hurts
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Dead game, barely have any players, there's barely tutorials, and unoptimised game
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →look how they massacred my boy... this game was my first steam bought game and it was the reason i got my first PC. I didn't play it THAT much but it always had a special place for me. I recently played it again and it was just plain old sad. I was actually surprised that a game in which i had met some of my friends and had a lot of fond memories just died like this. I just want me old post scriptum back.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Game seems cool, however, I spent all my time trying to figure out how to make the game run at a playable frame-rate only to later learn that all the servers are empty :(
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I absolutely love this game. The only bad thing about the game is amount of players playing this game. I hope the developer spend more on advertising this game.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Long time player here, this game definitely needs more love because the developers have not given up on this game even after the game nearly died a few years back.

neutral · AI labelView post →Genuinely better than HLL and normal Squad in everyway. Had this since early access and it was known as Post Scriptum but the player count is in the gutter from the word "go". The performance and poor marketing killed it at conception (performance is better now, but still iffy). I have so few hours because I only got to play full fun unmodded servers when a big update came out before like a week later everyone left again. Nowadays you can only find one or two full servers at the weekend in a…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →this game started off not to bad, but its turned into over the wire tbh...
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I bought the game almost a year ago but my little laptop couldn’t handle it. So I waited almost a year to get a pc to play this game. I have played like 3 hours now and man is it intense. I’m getting a mic set up to communicate with my squad. There are not a lot of players playing but every time I have logged on there is at least one server. I wish more people would play this game.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Great game, More realistic than HLL. Squad gameplay, real formation feeling
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game is borderline dead but it is really fun. Way more realistic than HHL and definitely has the squad feel. I think it's a good balance. There is almost always 1 completely full server with a few more getting players during peak hours. You can play the game but expect slim pickin's.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Small playerbase, game is not particularly optimized, but oh boy is the immersion worth every penny. Sound design, pace of play, design/detail, and team communication are what makes this game thrive.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The best ww2 simulator there is. I can't understand why people choose HLL over this... This game is so DAMN good, lets save Squad 44 (Post Scriptum forever) Please give it a try if this is your kind of genre, if its not then refund it. You won't regret it.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game had a "Singleplayer" tag. It is in no way single player.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →i m still gonna call this game post scriptum
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Game is sadly dead after revival try by OWI. I have over 2k hours as SL in Squad so here are my thoughts: 1. The UI is dated badly. This impacts everything from the map to menus. 2. Markings are too complex (it feels like you have to study them before understanding what's going on). 3. The lack of FTLs means marking comes down to a few players and it also discourages teamplay comms, in Squad the comms are far more effective also because people tend to mark and inform others. This also leads…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Dead game, runs fine i guess, wont ever TRULY know because all but one EU server is dead. Literally try all the time and still no US servers with more than 10 people... GREAT JOB DEVS!
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Squad 44 (formerly Post Scriptum) is a tactical online shooter that strongly focuses on teamwork, communication, and realistic combat during World War II. Unlike many fast-paced arcade shooters, the game emphasizes slow, methodical gameplay and a high level of immersion. Visually, Squad 44 offers large and detailed maps, authentic uniforms, numerous realistic weapon models, as well as a wide variety of vehicles and playable classes. The battlefields feel alive and create a believable sense…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →DO NOT BUY UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES. ♥♥♥♥ is dead, and there's nothing that can change it. just save your time and money, i have 19.5 hours on record and only about a quarter of that is in game.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →enjoyable from the times it was at it's peak, more people buy it and stay active the better the community grows. I hate people that want to say "dont buy it cause my preferences aren't met" even to this day the game still gets numbers and even if its smaller than what you expect its fun.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I loved this game, loved. My issues however lie in the community, effectively half of it precisely. I could ignore many issues, bugs, contents, optimization, quality of life, any issues in general except lag. A game should be fun. The game is very fun to me, hits the high realism, gunplay and tank gameplay. I give a positive review, I do not recommend the game as of now. But this is dependent on map, There are many unique maps and factions. However WAY too many people, my assumptions being…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Still riddled with the same bugs as it had 2 years ago. Players being stuck in objects after reviving is unacceptable when only one and a half maybe one and a half servers are full on a friday afternoon. I am not gonna sit in a fifteen minute q to play the game then kill myself after getting stuck only to fight my way back to where I already was. As much as people want this game to survive it never will when basic things like this aren't fixed after being an issue for so long.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Squad 44 is a better game than Hell Let Loose.bud the original studio fell apart, and the Squad studio fumbled it.I love this game, but I can't recommend it in its current state.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Periscope took it out the back, left it to rot, and Mercury Arts shot it.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's a shame that this game doesn't get the recognition it deserved. It's got an absolutely massive scope, and I can tell that a lot of passion went into making this game. The frame rate can struggle sometimes, sure... but the experience as a whole is everything I've always wanted out of a tactical WWII FPS. Sure, you'll have to be okay with some frame drops, but it remains faithful to the period, is INCREDIBLY detailed in its systems (armor, penetration, logistics, etc.), and is intensely…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Don't listen to anyone who says the game is dead. This is an amazing ww2 milsim targeted specifically towards those who want to play a milsim rather than a ww2 era shooter game. Game runs fine, plenty of content, gameplay is smooth, overall feels great. You might run into the problem of servers not being avaiable all the time but then again this issue is solved only by demand.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is THE world war 2 milsim, and quite possibly the best WW2 game out there. The graphics, the sound, the gameplay, every aspect of it far exceeds the likes of Hell Let Loose or any other competitor. There's no way you're lone wolfing here, you HAVE to communicate and play as a team. The only downside is that it's clearly a dying game, with usually only one, sometimes 2 if you're really lucky, full servers. I will never forget the earlier days of 2019, when it was always busy. Those…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If you like WW2 simulators, Squad 44 is the best one out there. However I can't in good faith recommend you to buy it due to 1 major problem: Player count. You will most likely find 1-2 full servers when trying to play and the rest would be empty. I really like this game but it is kinda hard to play it if there is no one to play with.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →dead slopsim with manchildren devs who are too lazy and have a huge alliedboner. good on them for killing the game
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →On paper this game is better than Hell Let Lose and a lot of fun. Stratospheric highs, hadal lows, and vicious gun play. Tanks are generally very good if difficult. The map variation is very pleasing. Currently, however, there are few activer servers, and a specific server DDOS's competitors. This forces people to play with them. They run a 'rules for thee' system and spy on the map to hunt targets. They still managing to lose from time to time which is a bit sad. All the same it needs to be…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Alright, my fellow soldiers. I consider Squad44 dead for myself from now on. Why? Well, if you played it for, let's say, more than 300h, you probably already know. But I'll list some major issues anyway: 1) Developers with a poor development strategy. Instead of focusing on existing issues, improving and fixing what already is done, they're making more mess, and instead of properly fixing it, they just spit, hit and patch, hoping for the best. And even patching usually takes weeks, with…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Buy this over HLL due to actually having people who use microphones, has some crashing issues but overall a really good milsim. When is Beyond the wire getting its rebrand and revival? or maybe merge the games? Squad 17 - 44? would be cool
