What players are saying

Download dgVoodoo and drop the appropriate DLLs into the game's installation folder to avoid issues on newer hardware. Yet another reason why Steam needs a "meh" button. The story, up until the ending, is fine and has you wanting to progress to solve the case, but the puzzles range from annoying, to impossible to solve without a walkthrough. The worst are presented as logic puzzles, but logic only gets you so far …

I didn't expect this game to be this good and thrilling —wow! I wish I had discovered it and played it years ago. Still Life is a classic point & click game developed by the same people who created Syberia, both games have a similar art style, especially the first two games from Syberia. In this game, you play as an FBI agent, Victoria McPherson, who was called to investigate a serial murder case. When she arrived …

A Masterpiece of Atmosphere Undone by Its Final Act Highly Recommended, with a major warning. Still Life is a masterclass in creating a dark, gritty, and compelling detective noir in the point-and-click genre. It improves upon its predecessor, Post Mortem, in every conceivable way, from its interface to its storytelling. It will pull you into its dual-timeline mystery and hold you there... right up until the very …

🍰 Runs on windows 10 with no issues. 🍰 Wonderful voice overs. 🍰 Movie like narrative driven story. 🍰 Immersive & believable characters, plot, environment, events. 🍰 Mostly reasonable puzzles & things you have to do at the start of the game. 🍰 Element's of daily life add to the game very well. 🍰 Couldn't mix correctly ingredients in a cooking puzzle even with a guide, still love the puzzle. 🍰 Skip dialog text …

A series of murders have been taking place and we're plopped in the middle of it as Victoria McPhearson. She's talented at her job, definitely a bit of an ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ with her snarkyness and she'll constantly stand up for herself, even when it costs her more than it gains her. The dark vibes of the game were the main reason I actually played this. The sleek and stylish presentation and the boldness of not shying away …

neutral · AI labelView post →I’m a bit mixed on this one. As a complete package, Still Life is a very enjoyable adventure game, but its lack of consistently engaging puzzles sometimes makes it feel more like an interactive novel than a traditional point and click. That said, the strength of the story and atmosphere more than make up for it. Like many older adventure titles, it occasionally leans into obtuse or frustrating puzzle design at times approaching the levels of The Longest Journey in how counterintuitive some…

(Great timing too, as Syberia: The World Before - Prologue is coming out in December!) Now I know why because I'm a protective fan of both franchises, even though I didn't grow up with them. Whilst Syberia is a whimsical, & imaginative adventure, Still Life is a dark & mature story . Starring Victoria McPherson; a sarcastic, funny, & likeable F.B.I. agent that…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Interesting game, story is alright, flow is pretty well. Unfortunately, this game DOES NOT run on modern hardware. You will have to jump through several hoops to get it running and the experience is not great. I don't know why steam sells games that do not run out of the box. The story is also incomplete and ends in a cliffhanger. The resolution of the plot is in the sequel.

neutral · AI labelView post →Unfortunately, Still Life has aged very poorly. The lack of basic quality-of-life features makes the experience unnecessarily frustrating. There is "fast" travel but the protagonist moves painfully slowly between locations, turning simple backtracking into a test of patience rather than deduction. Compared to Post Mortem, the game also loses narrative strength. There is no internal narration or meaningful dialogue choices, and many conversations feel awkward, forced, or even in poor taste…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →What lies beneath great art direction and an interesting premise is ultimately a meandering story wrought with illogical and annoying puzzles, and drawn out animations that you will watch over and over. Then after all is said and done you are left with an unsatisfying ending that doesn't feel worth the frustration. Technical issues include having to download external programs to cap fps and crashing if you do certain objectives in an order that the developers didn't plan for. Smooth sailing…

neutral · AI labelView post →This game is very 2005. Once you boot it through an emulator (I used DXWND), it runs fine, but it has some rendering and navigation issues that were common at the time: the main character's hair scaffolds are visible, so it looks like she's wearing a headpiece of dry spaghetti all the time; navigating to new scenes doesn't always work. I had to switch between mouse and keyboard navigation a million times in order to advance to the next area. Extremely off-putting. Also, some of the puzzles…

neutral · AI labelView post →I originally played Still Life back in 2015 and recently decided to replay it. I'm happy to say that I enjoyed it just as much this time around. Even though it's an older point-and-click adventure game I honestly don't have much to criticize. The story is excellent, the atmosphere is great, and the soundtrack is fantastic. Yes, some aspects show their age but that's simply how games of that era were designed, and it never bothered me. For me, it's still a 10/10 experience. I had completely…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's a good game, but the puzzles really push the limits of how patient the player can be. A lot of the puzzles in this game require huge leaps in logic to be able to solve, often requiring logic / interpretation that goes far beyond the game's world. In other words, it is difficult to gauge how far the game wants the player to go with their reasoning, and the inconsistency in puzzle difficulty is far more upsetting than the puzzles themselves. The game does come with a handy pdf guide included…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →maybe a point and click classic to some but as someone who's never played this up until now, the game just felt way too weird and icky. some things that didn't feel right: forced dialogues, almost fetish-like portrayal of dead women, painfully stereotypic depiction of a black man, the main character (who is a WOMAN) going "this girl liked pain" as her first reaction to seeing a dead body of a tattooed woman with piercings, then some five minutes later proceeding to get groped by her male…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is a pretty good point and click adventure, I love the plot line, the exploring, the puzzles, the soundtrack, etc. Some puzzles were really annoying and required me to check an online playthrough guide, but most of them were easy to understand. I don't really like the ending, it ends so suddenly and you don't get to know who was the…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is a cult classic point-and-click adventure with a killer atmosphere. The dark, moody vibe and the dual-timeline murder mystery are still intriguing today. The voice acting is solid for its time, and some puzzles are genuinely clever. But oh boy, get ready for some classic "adventure game logic" where solutions make zero sense. The controls feel clunky now, and the ending is famously abrupt and unsatisfying. A must-play for genre fans who love noir, but a frustrating relic for everyone…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The time I've spent looking for this game since first playing on OG Xbox has been ridiculous, I can't believe I didn't think about looking on here sooner. So glad it just hit me one night, I'm stoked. It's a little glitchy, ngl, some times I just get stuck and it doesn't make sense clicking the same darn thing and stuff doesn't work. But all in all, I still like this game very much.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I have solved the cookies puzzle in my third try... and I have spent +2 hours for lock picking a door puzzle and +4 hours for the computer search puzzle. Old point click games had a serious problem with pixel searching as a one of the main game design choices and it's a very big part of this game's in game mechanics. That annoyed me a lot. But this is a good game with good story. Give it a try if you like to want to solve some murder mysteries.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Story is pretty good. Characters are mostly likable. Main problem is that there isn't much gameplay here. You just talk with one character, who tells you to talk to another character, who tells you to talk to another character... Occasionally, you'll have to pickup an item and use it on another item in the vicinity, but there's no real problem solving. The only time you'll really get stuck is if you miss an object and then have to wander around till you find it. It seems the developers…
