I can no longer recommend this game or any Capcom title. They recently added Enigma DRM, which has trashed the performance. It’s a disgrace to punish paying customers with such a heavy-handed update years after release. I’m done buying Capcom games until they prioritize players over DRM. Avoid.

Such a banger of a metroidvania. It feels like a breath of fresh air to play one where you actually feel like the main character—insanely strong and slicing through every obstacle in your path. Strider delivers that power fantasy really well. The 2.5D visuals and art style look fantastic, and the level design is solid—even if it leans more toward being linear. Strider is a great 2D side-scrollin hack and slash game! Also Capcom took years to fix the crashing issue on modern CPUs but they did fix it at the end. If you want to play some 2D linear action game with exploration elements and you love platforming, fast and acrady-style gameplay like the Genesis and SNES era then yes, absolutely go for it!

Eight years after my purchase, Capcom added the "Enigma Protector" DRM to the game. This is unethical (and possibly illegal) on so many levels. Capcom has been added to my ignored creators list.

Added a highly dubious DRM protection to the game long after release. Turning it into potential malware while having a severe performance impact. Considering the behaviour of the developer, the fact the business details are obfuscated and you can get neither country of operation nor any names associated with the project, I can't recommend anyone buy or install this crap. That's something you would expect from a cyber criminal. Not a company conducting earnest business. Say what you want…

Patched in Enigma cancer one decade after release. Capcom, you're not getting any more of my money until you stop using this garbage and start respecting your players by just removing Denuvo one year after release and not including any other forms of digital cancer on your games. Whoever in Capcom's management is deciding to put DRM on games that are years old, not protecting anything, degrading performance, and degrading Capcom's brand image for free shouldn't be allowed anywhere near a…

The gameplay is amazing and I would recommend it except for two major points: #1 Does not work well with PS4 Dual Shock controller (using Steam controller Input settings), or even sometimes Xbox controller. Sometimes controller bugs out and stops working. Get it and try it out, if you have any issues within the 2 hour grace period refund it like I did. #2 CAPCOM retroactively added DRM to the game years after its release. If it wasn't for this issue and the controller issue, I would recommend…

This might’ve been alright upon release in 2014 when the market for this stuff wasn’t so saturated but 10 years after the fact there isn’t exactly a lack of well made games in this Metroid inspired vein and I can’t help but to think you’d be better off playing a better one. The controls are sloppy, the combat isn’t particularly satisfying and the world is annoying to navigate. Maybe the studio didn’t feel comfortable making a proper arcade style sequel to Strider 2 or maybe Capcom didn’t think…

Review after 100% Completion MISSION ACCOMPLISHED. Got this game for free! I played this because of the recent surge of ninja-platformer games like Shinobi: Art of Vengeance and Ninja Gaiden: Ragebound. Incorporating elements (Option A-C) from MvC is a fantastic touch which made Strider Hiryu cooler. Some negatives I can think of: fast travel sucks since there is no detail in which area or part of the map you will end up in. Also, there is little to no plot at all, which I'm fine…

Strider is a really great Metroidvania side-scrolling platformer with an awesome main character and fluid, easy-to-learn combat, plus well-designed bosses. The theme is also interesting: you're a ninja in a futuristic, cyberpunk-like world within a communist-style state. The story isn’t anything special and shouldn’t be the reason you play, it’s all about the gameplay. Despite how fun and polished it is, I started to lose interest and got a bit bored in the last quarter. Still, it’s a really…

A rather uninspired metroidvania. Enemy bullets barely tickle, health pick ups are everywhere and spamming charge attack is enough to deal with most mobs. Nothing about the gameplay screams ninja. Dialogue is always some variation of "you will die". Forgettable boss fights, forgettable soundtrack and a forgettable map.

Hated this. I'm a big fan of the original Strider, and the controls of this were just horrible and inconsistent. Your running motion moves at different speeds, not according to how hard you move the analogue stick, but just dependent on what's happening around you. Similarly, the screen zooms in and out as it feels like it. You just don't feel any control of anything. It feels like a n on-rails dopamine button basher, and there's no real challenge or anything. It's just... It kind of plays…

During Capcom's dark age that lasted between 2012 and 2017, this reboot of Strider was probably the best title to come from the, at the time, struggling company. Strider 2014 was created from the combination of the arcade classic, Strider 2, and the NA-only released Strider for the NES. Strider 2014 retains the same idea from it's arcade predecessors for it's gameplay: the game is simple to play and can be very satisfying especially when mastered. Returning from the NES title are the…

This is by no means a bad game, it's just very mediocre. You really have to be thirsting for a game to play to play this, because I can think of a dozen better games to play or just wanting to start up something in my backlog instead. The movement feels fast and good, until you climb something which is way too slow. But nothing you do in this game feels very impactful. Runs ok, but feels a lot older than 2014. Repetitive combat, constantly respawning enemies. Flaky combat. Not sure there's much of a story to talk about. Very forgetable. Other than that, Capcop decided to add some sort of dodgy third party DRM to a decade old game. How is this even legal I have no idea.

If I was 10 and had nothing else to play, I would go outside and pretend to be a future ninja and have more fun than playing this painfully average mobile game trying to be something more than it is and actually being less. A very middling metroidvania. Not bad, but not really standout in any way. Movement is this game's best feature. Strider Hiryu runs, flips, slides, and climbs with a quick, erratic momentum that really sells the feeling of ninja-ing your way through a cyberpunk dystopian Kazakhstan. Strider also swings his cypher as fast as you can mash the attack button and doesn't lose momentum if attacking while running or jumping, adding to the high-energy feel. The map is pretty easy to comprehend…

It is supposed to be an average 5h little fun game you play between your 50h epics, except the fun is spoiled about halfway through. • Incredibly shoddy hitboxes, especially on traps. • No i-frames on dodging or even when getting hit so you can get stun-locked and juggled around. • Awful encounter design, always some annoying combo of 10 melee and ranged enemies in some room or hallway. Very fun game. It's a great remake of Strider. My only large complaints: 1. Graphics are 'too clean' in a world that should be full of grit. they took the original and just cleaned up everything... a world wide scrub despite the weather and city life situation.... machines doing it? Didn't see any.... it really busted the theme. 2. Late game, especially the final part, enemies can stun lock you for a while just... knocking you over again and again... it's frustrating. 3. 2.8/5 Strider (2014) is a Metroidvania with some decent gameplay. However, there are several design choices that hold it back. The lack of fast travel is a serious issue? How do you not include a feature that is practically mandatory in the genre. Also, there is little variety in the environments. I could not differentiate any of the areas. Everything is very dark and industrial. I would have preferred some vibrant settings with a variety of environments. With all the negatives out of the way,…

The first impression of this game promises a good experience, dropping you right into the action with no help as you begin to kill enemies at a blazing speed. But oh man, does it disappoint. If you like metroidvanias, this is good enough. The beginning sequences of the game are BY FAR the most difficult parts, even on easy difficulties. Movement feels pretty good except when climbing up a wall to get around a corner, it locks you into an animation, which was only a problem about 5 or 6 times in my full playthrough. Combat is simple, and kinda mashy. I'm wondering if this is just simply the harder difficulty is "bigger health pools on enemies and they do more damage"

As a metroidvania, this game aged rather poorly; Maybe I feel this way due to playing it right after doing 4 other excellent games in the genre; But overall progression, map design and such just felt lackluster and weirdly padded, with exploration being punished (such as a rather easy sequence break that will make you miss the solo fight and miss out on an important upgrade until much later). While not a bad game I just didn't find anything really special about this one. The metroidvania aspects were pretty linear all things considering. The boss fights were fine, nothing really to write home about. If you already own this game and like metroidvania's then give it a play, but I wouldn't recommend buying it at all.

Pretty good game. Never played the original SEGA Genesis version but this one was fun for a Metroidvania. Very fast, the controls are snappy and responsive. The story is as nebulous as it can be, I didn't really care for any of the characters and the end was quite anti climactic. Still, all this does not take away anything about how fun the game is. If it was up to me, I would just keep playing levels for the hell of it, they are fun and the various weapons and upgrades are awesome.
