This is a great game. A standard space combat sim combined with the witty deliver of the Chin himself, Bruce Campbell. I played it years ago, and was eager to play it again when it came out on Steam. Except...the Steam version is unplayable on current generation systems. Maybe I'll see if GoG has a better version, they actually seem to care that the stuff they sell runs...

In my opinion, one of the greatest unknown games of all time. The story is compelling, the graphics are good for the time period, and the acting is amazing for such a low budget game. You aren't going to be thrilled by how amazing the explosions are, by the thrills of the space-borne dog-fights, or even by the cutscenes. However, allow yourself to be immersed in the game and you will put at least 20 hours into the …

Very good space sim fighter where you play as Bruce ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ Campbell. Very underrated. Only drawback? No widescreen support even with tweaking it. Play it if you like games like Freespace, Tie Fighter, Wing Commander, Darkstar One

This game right here... When you want a finished game, this is it. Great dialogue, great story, and great action. I absolutely loved this game as a kid and even now I'll still play it. This is one of the few games I'll log into my personal collection of hall of fame. Worth every penny.

This is one of the more entertaining spaceship action games of its era. It's not groundbreaking, and it's not the caliber of Wing Commander, but the tone is always fun and the quality is consistent throughout. The space sim aspects are a little weak in places. All systems draw from the same power source, and they're balanced in a way that makes most ships slow and vulnerable if you try to keep all systems partially …

Players who liked Tachyon: The Fringe talk about great voice acting by Bruce Campbell; those who didn't talk about technical issues on modern Windows. Which matters more to you?
Critics, per Wikipedia
The game received favorable reviews according to the review aggregation website GameRankings. Kevin Rice of NextGen called it "a solid space-simulation game; it just doesn't offer much in the way of anything new." Nash Werner of GamePro said, "Even with a Hollywood name on the box to draw attention, Tachyon is still more like a treat for the hardcore space flight-sim fan. I'm talking about the type of fan that has the need to fly brand new ships every six months. Those people will love Tachyon. Its entertaining multiplayer mode over NovaWorld is reason enough to get fanboys everywhere salivating. However, casual gamers and tourists may not be able to appreciate Tachyon for what it really…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →What can I say? 10/10 would buy again. This little gem has been a classic and to my knowledge no space fighter game has been able to live up to this, unless somebody would like to make a recommendation. The intuitive nature to this game is beyond compelling, I've taken down multiple capital ships, overcome insane odds, all while strategically being able to manuever my craft and manage my shield and energy/ammo reserves. The ability to turbo and then slide is exactly something a space simulator…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The Wing Commander Privateer of Colony Wars and the final game in the series: Red Sun. (1999) It plays more like Tachyon: The Fringe in terms of being more mercenary mission focused, but it too is a side story set against the backdrop of the Empire vs League war.
neutral · AI labelView post →It’s always interesting to just see how different Umamusumes are portrayed artistically/character design wise between the game and anime Game Tachyon has her eyes half-closed almost always, making her feel like a calculating evil scientist BoaNE Tachyon looks like a mad scientist with wide eyes

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →One of the best flight simulation games I've ever played. Extremely under-rated. The storyline is amazing and side quests are really original. Not to mention Bruce as the main character.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I don’t think I’ll ever play the Uma mobile game, Tachyon looks significantly not as unhinged as she does in the anime and that is kind of a turnoff for me

After that you have to change Tachyon.cfg to this: RES=1 USE_HARDWARE=1 NO_VSYNC=0 When you have done that start the game from space.exe NOT from the Tachyon.exe otherwise launcher will overwrite your config file. Have fun.

neutral · AI labelView post →Classic game from Novalogic - it really brings back the nostalgia from the demo I got from buying Comanche 4 around 10 years ago, but goes a lot further. There are dozens of hours of gameplay and lots of customisation for your crafts, and that's without taking the other branch (the game splits into two about 1/4 of the way in, and you get to choose between fighting for the good guys or the rebels). 8/10
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →one thing i noticed that i wanted to point out was that in the anime and game Tachyon has constant sleepy eyes but the movie reeeeeaaaaaally makes her appear way more unhinged. im not sure which of these i prefer i honestly adore both

As an older game, resolution support is limited to what was common at the time, so you will have to settle for 1024x768 maximum. Other than this, there are no issues on Windows 11. Edit: Not sure why some reviews claim the gam is unplayable on modern systems. As a kid, I loved it so much, and installed it so many times that, to this day, I still know the CD Key by heart. It's definitely one of the great classic space games, right up there with all of the greats like Freelancer and Homefront, with similar features. The bottom line is that its fully voice acted by BRUCE F****** CAMPBELL. Buy it. Enjoy it. You're welcome.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is one of my first ever PC based games I ever played way back in 2000, and remains to this day one of my personal favs. The graphics though now very much dated, are very good for the time and are not a negative distraction today, the controls and gamplay are easy to follow and provide hours of enjoyment as you pick a side between the corporate Galspan or the independant Bora. Although the campaign is linear to some degree, the addition of small optional elements and side missions niecely…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The storyline, while classic, was well made and gripping, with a good dose of humour. The fighting was easy to grasp, but still challenging as you progress. I definitly recommend this game, even with the outdated graphics. I really wish they'd make a sequel.

neutral · AI labelView post →Hidden gem. This is a Space Sim / Shooter game. The graphics are vintage good. The music is OK. The story is good. No bugs or crashes, but I can't get it to run on Win 10. I finished it on win 7. Overall, this is a very good game. Of course, the main attraction is the voice of Bruce Campbell as the hero or the anti-hero. The space combat is satisfying with good controls. The game is long enough with plenty of missions. This is quality retro-gaming and a very recommendable experience. Did I…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A great 3d space combat simulator. It can be quite challenging, but has some really good physics and graphics for when it came out. The plot was memorable, the voice acting was quite good for the time, and I still have as much fun playing this game in 2015 as I did in the early 2000s! Totally worth 10 dollars. I suppose Windows 8 is as much to blame, but I can't recall having ever purchased a game from steam that has worked 100% correctly, if at all. It is a credit to my own stupidity that I keep wasting my money with them. So to begin with, to even get the game playable, took me a couple of hours of research and tweaking. Then it seems at last, once I fixed the graphical issues, the game is still completely unplayable with the…
