I really like the art of this game, but it's... very misogynistic. The game is very "boy-only" vibe, and basically make all female characters imbeciles. Very Old-Boys club, made me very uncomfortable at some instances. But the art-style is really good, it would be a solid story if you look at it from a 40s detective novel perceptive. Overall still worth a try because the pixel art of the dystopia style is exquisite.

The pixel art alone is worth getting lost in. Tales of the Neon Sea builds a rich cyberpunk world full of detail, atmosphere, and mystery, with an engaging story that kept me hooked from start to finish. Maybe a few too many puzzles for my taste, but the exploration and worldbuilding make up for it. The main plot definitely carries the experience. It's a decent game, but most of the puzzles aren't going to require much brain power from most people. Still worth the time, if you've got it. Pros: Lots of details that were interesting and well thought out. When the puzzles worked, they worked well. The game's visual atmosphere is great. Cyberpunk style was appreciated. Cons: Puzzles often feel repetitive. Gameplay feels really slow at times. (elevators, walking …

It hurts to have to not recommend this game since I love supporting indie games and this game just LOOKS so good, I want to be able to enjoy it. That said, I can't overstate how much I absolutely LOVE the aesthetic and art style of this game but so many things in the dialogue and general plot of this game have made it so hard to give this game a fair shot. The dialogue is very clearly translated into English, which would be fine if there weren't so many blatant errors. There's random…

My score: 6/10 IMPORTANT NOTE: Despite the game's score of 6, I'm giving it a thumbs down because of a well-known soft-locking bug that has remained unfixed since 2019 — which is frankly unacceptable. To circumvent the bug which will make your character freeze after a cutscene on the boat, near the endgame, you have to change the game language to Chinese. Overview I fell victim to a misunderstanding; by looking at the trailers I got mesmerized by the environments and assumed this was some…

I really wanted to like this game. I love its sci-fi world and beautiful neon-lit art style, but it has a lot of problems. The main storyline is bland and predictable. However, I did enjoy the detective horror aspect of the game: uncovering the truth, investigating mysteries, and learning more about the world. My biggest issue is the constant shift in tone. The game tries to tell a dark detective horror story, but then adds comedy that feels out of place. The cat sections are a good example.…

Unnecessary sexualization of every woman. There are other point and clicks with similar length and difficulty that don't go to such extents to objectify women. Spend your money elsewhere tbh.

Game breaking bugs. I couldn't use the terminal to craft an item at Charles's Workshop to repair BB. There are too many puzzles as well, disrupting the narrative of the game. Sad this game cannot live to it's full potential.

There's a lot I could say about the stilted writing, stereotyped characters or superfluous puzzles but my main gripe is with the way women are viewed within the story. There are only three ways female characters are viewed throughout the story; 1. sex objects, 2. old hags or 3. helpless little girls with the most prominent being the first with half naked posters of women's chest and behind plastered throughout or with every female character talking head having their chest spilling out of their…

TLDR: Nice graphics and character art. Writing is poorly executed and riddled with spelling en grammatical errors. This is so apparent throughout the game that I cannot recommend it. Longer version: The game has some good things which will catch your interest. The pixel graphics and artstyle are in my opinion beautiful. That and the characters presented was enough to peak my interest. But the game falls flat in many other ways. The writing is terrible: The most annoying and…

I wanted to love this game, and it has its charms, but I wouldn't recommend it. The graphics are nice, especially the pixel art environments, but the characters are rather forgettable, and the writing and world building is fairly run-of-the-mill uninventive cyberpunk noir stuff (speaking as someone who's usually a huge fan of that kind of thing). I'm usually a big fan of indie gems, so I was disappointed that this fell short. I wouldn't mind the slightly awkward phrasing of clearly translated…

I love cyberpunk settings a lot , so I always feel a bit biased when i give cyberpunk games a thumbs up on here, but I think this one especially deserves it. It took me about 14 hours to beat this game, and i'm sure it could be done quicker if you stuck to the main task, but I spent a lot of time wandering around clicking on all the stuff (a lot of things he will still comment on, even if it doesn't have the little magnifying glass icon) plus I kept stopping to read the little extra bits of…

Bought the game on sale mostly for the amazing pixel art and the detective genre. But after almost nine hours and all achievements unlocked, I have to say that the game is one of the cyberpunk games I fell in love with. The story is interesting from the beginning and will only get better as you keep on playing, plus get to play as a cat. How cool is that? Have I mentioned that there are cat mafia in the game? The puzzles will definitely not be for everyone, but I personally enjoy them so…

I wasn't ready to leave this world. It never felt like I was simply playing through a game; it felt like I'd stepped into a story that had been unfolding long before I arrived, one that would continue long after I was gone. The credits rolled, but a part of me stayed behind, still wondering what became of the people I met and the questions left unanswered. There is a strange sadness in leaving a place where so much still feels unfinished.

Tales of the Neon Sea is a Cyberpunk-Noir, Point-and-Click, Puzzle game. That's pretty much all you need to know to determine whether you're interested or not. The story was definitely worth the ~8-9 hours I spent with it and left me itching for a sequel. For as enjoyable as this games story is, I don't think you get more basic than this when you cross Noir and Cyberpunk.

The game is beautiful and the environments colorful and detailed. The story and investigation mechanics are quite interesting. However, at some point late in the game (before the morse code puzzle), I encountered a bug that prevented me from moving and even bringing up the menu, so I couldn't even close the game normally. I had the same problem with controller and keyboard. If somebody managed to solve this problem, I would be happy to change the review when I finishthe game proper.

I enjoyed the world-building, but the slower pace of Tales of the Neonsea make it feel less like a game and more like a story (the kind that you enjoy for a hour at a time before bed). There are puzzles to break up the plot, which are very well constructed, but their difficulty swings wildly from braindead easy, to surprisingly difficult. All in all, I enjoyed my time with it, but don't think it will leave any sort of lasting impression on me.

Fun in some ways - starts well and the opening screen music is rather lovely. I liked the apartment and being a cat. Then........the bit in the red light district with a load of women being leered and cheered at - YUCK! Also the puzzles are very, very, very easy - or very, very, hard. I'll finish it but I won't be sad to see it go.

+ Nice retro visuals + Somewhat interesting story / soundtrack negligible / light p&c adventure / unexpected whimsical - annoying cat story completely random and unnecessary. - atrocious german translation; sometimes funny. - questionable presentation of women. They're presented either as old hags or blonde big breasted brainless bimbos ( sometimes with dark hair ). Wouldn't be an issue if everybody in that universe would undergo some beauty surgery, but apparently only young women do that.…

Tales of the Neon Sea was better than I expected, though not without a few caveats. The story, about a cyborg detective tracking down a seemingly supernatural killer from his past, was fairly interesting, albeit a bit scattered. The pixel art was very well-done and was the game's strongest feature in my opinion. The…

i got this game for free on epic a few years ago and decided to try it on a whim, and then i bought it again on steam. The puzzles were good except for that one section (real ones will know what I'm talking about), moving around felt a bit clunky, especially when climbing stairs or jumping around. Puzzle based gameplay rarely appeals to me, and Tales of the Neon Sea was no exception. Many of its puzzles felt uninteresting and often interrupted the flow of the story. They worked best when they were simple and unobtrusive, giving me a reason to spend more time in deserted areas, explore their hidden corners, and let the tension build before moving on. Despite that, I genuinely enjoyed the game and became quite attached to it. The atmosphere is beautiful, the locations feel alive, and the…

It started off with a very enticing beginning where the player is introduced to the main conflict, as well as the controls. Further, the plot seemed rather interesting as well, given it offers action right from the start. When things calm down and backtrack, it still keeps up with offering…

A cyberpunk detective adventure that, to my mind, is quite a surprise. The serious story is interspersed with humorous interludes to lighten the atmosphere, while the dystopia presents quite a human face on the level of ordinary human and interspecies relations. This is complemented by the introduction of 2 protagonists who, despite the ‘language’ barrier between them, work together quite well. This is one of the few games I have enjoyed playing from start to finish and I am genuinely…

I saw such mixed reviews about this game and I have to say I am so glad I bought the game and did not listen to any nay sayers. This game is charming, grotesque, macabre and fun. I found no challenge too hard or too easy. The story kept me engaged and I think they left it on a proper cliff hanger that leaves me hopeful for a sequel. I think my biggest compliments to games is re-playability and this hidden gem of an indie game deserves a second or third play through. If you are on the fence and…

Had some good puzzles and art. Lost me on account that it falls into that cyberpunk trope of overt and pointless misogyny. Managed to ignore it for a while but really ruined the fun for me. Would have been passable without all of the fem npcs being nothing more than a pair of tits and all the posters.

This game is a toss up. It's an interesting story, it's interactive but you may as well be reading it off your screen. You can explore a bit and uncover the story, but you don't have much choice as a player, and if you are presented with any choices, none of them really mean anything or have any effect on the story. There's a few puzzles, none of which are very challenging, most of them are pipes or gears. It's a nice game to lay back, unwind, enjoy the atmosphere, and have a story told to…

This is a great cyberpunk detective game. A little bit trippy at times but it's all good. Also sometimes you play as a cat. To get all the achievements your going to have to use the chapter select after completing the game. Some achievements are locked behind certain choices. I highly recommend this one.

The pixel graphics are great, feels like a lot of love has gone into the game. The puzzles are between easy to average difficulty. Not a long game but i would still recommend it
