What players are saying
Counted from the reviewers’ own thumbs up/down on the 174 English Steam reviews we collected, not by the AI. Valve’s all-language rating: Mostly Positive (216 of 302 positive).
Players praise the free DLC transfers from 4th edition and the generous developer policy. [1][2][3] Some reviewers find the UI clunky and the game lacking content compared to 4th edition. [4][5][6] Many appreciate the visual overhaul and rule improvements, despite early bugs. [7][8][9]

Not too convinced about this one yet. Maybe it'll end up being a lot better than 4 but at the moment, it feels near identical, and in particular in terms of how snappy the UI is (not very) - the differences between 4e and 5e gameplay don't really make up for the difference in expansions available - even without the tiles and cards, the range of characters is kinda meh. There's a lot of things that have stayed the …

A fantastic game ruined by a misfiring UI. The game itself is fantastic, especially the latest DLC, but the UI turns it into an exercise of pure frustration. There are so many rules that are not explained, and you are forced to intuit why are not allowed to take the action you want. Spellcasting is a nightmare, with confusing timing and no ability to cancel a spell that you accidently cast due to misreading the …

They offer free DLCs for everyone who own those DLCs in the classic version. In a world of greed game developers/publishers, this alone deserve a recommendation. Plus, this is one of my favorite board games since 10 years ago. You know, games, films, books were all better back then. This is the great old days with some nice graphics and rules updates. :D I am looking forward to seeing all those DLCs come to the 5th …

Played a match. Even though the new UI takes getting used to, the base game in 5th edition is far better, and the game is far more beautiful with the art. Don't get the bad reviews, the thing plays just fine. I have over 3000 hours in 4th edition Talisman, so take note of what I say when I say base game is superior. It, of course, has far less content but over the years that will change. Highly recommend

Nomad Games have done a sterling job of translating Avalon Hill’s new edition of Talisman to a digital format. The new rule set has been faithfully recreated and the brand new artwork has been enhanced with a number of cool effects giving the game a premium feel. The fact that Nomad Games has set up the remastered expansion content so that players who owned them previously can obtain them for free is amazing and …

It remains a perfect game for a couple of elementary school kids, and I'm having a lovely time too. I've played the last few editions and there are lots of neat improvements throughout the design.
positive · AI labelView post →Goodish: - I like the animated art and the added borders on the map to be a bit more clear exactly where you can and cannot go. - For the changes to the how toads and death works, I appreciate the option to set it back to the old version of the game. - You can customize the deck adding cool ways to tailor your experience, this is a good addition. A lot of expansions where a hassle to play with because of certain cards or rules so more customization options to the game is good. Bad: - The art…

neutral · AI labelView post →The good: - All expansions will roll over for free from 4th edition if you already own them. - Fresh new art, with animated cards. - Queued spells now ask for confirmation before casting. - Spending fate for movement now let's you decide where you want to go, which is a good change. - Dying or being turned into a toad doesn't immediately take you out of the game anymore. - You can edit the decks in the game now to tailor the experience. The bad: - The interaction system is still pretty bad,…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I genuinely struggle to understand how anyone could recommend this game in its current state. The game is riddled with bugs, and several systems, such as character-specific traits, simply don’t function as they should. The board's visuals are disappointing, with the permanent outline being particularly unappealing. The AI feels unreasonably lucky – my first game was an exercise in frustration as I couldn’t compete with the other AIs. They won nearly everything, and when they needed the…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →And for #RandomBoardGameSaturday we get Talisman City, my favourite expansion for my favourite childhood game. This turned the City space on the main board into a whole separate board with new encounters, new rules, and a job system. Small Alan loved it and spent ages there whenever we played

neutral · AI labelView post →This seems a generic clone of the Digital Classic edition (which I enjoyed and have over 500 hours played). There seems to be nothing different at all from that version, and less. There are only handful of players to choose from and no other maps at all to play than just the one, The graphics are less and all you do is click a button to roll the dice. Returning.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Here is the translation to English: There is no sense in buying this version of the game. Absolutely everything is the same, with only minor graphical improvements. They did not even bother to improve the UI to make it more convenient.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I love Talisman. But for now, there's no reason to play 5th Edition over 4th. There's very little that's new in this edition, outside of few rule changes, but for now the 4th edition just is way more fun to play. Might change the review in future, if more content is added to this game.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →So this does suck to write this, as I adore Talisman: Digital Edition (classic now I think it's called?) to bits. So it could be that part of this is down to 5th edition going up against a much loved predecessor. But this just doesn't hit the mark, especially not for the price they're asking for. Firstly and most noticeably, the graphics are just off, as others have said there is this blurry quality to them, it all blends into one. The main criticism I have is that both the character…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Not good. Just play the original it's better. The rolling is seeded before the game starts just like the old game. No expansions on launch is a choice. Cash grab
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This version has some visual upgrades and mechanical upgrades over the previous version, but they come at a cost. Pros: this game seems to run much faster and smoother than the previous digital version. HUGE Plus. Cons: The UI and Gameplay lack a huge amount of clarity. While they have overhauled the art, they seem to have done so at the cost of labeled cards, spaces, etc. This leaves alot to be desired regarding gameplay clarity. The actual labels and text for items are obscured or buried…

neutral · AI labelView post →***** UPDATED updated opinion ***** Maybe it's just because the rig I'm playing on is quite good, I have to say I LOVE the map/board. It's 2D with 3D elements thrown in. Perhaps that's just my only, lonely take on the subject yet again. Game is still brutal as hell on you . . . gosh. am I that much a masochist? I guess the answer must be yes. neutral · AI labelView post →Post an image of a game you played as a teenager: Talisman always started fun, but tended to drag on in the mid-late game. Robo Rally was and still is great. Gammarauders was kaiju ridiculous. We even made our own "bioborgs". Shogun was our "Risk killer." More challenging and strategic.

neutral · AI labelView post →The new cards system sucks, the text shows up at the botton of the board... not in the card itself. You lose the feeling of playing a board game
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Forced diversity. Just play the previous edition. Its literally the same thing without some cards replaced by ugly diversity re-makes that look like they were made by underpaid intern from a developing country.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If you think Monopoly is a lengthy frustrating board game experience, I DARE you to try Talisman, the board game equivalent of being locked in a round room and being told to wait until the corner finds you.
negative · AI labelView post →Bet you all had no idea Stephen King’s “The Talisman” has a game adaptation!
neutral · AI labelView post →Much worse then the 4th edition, pretty much in every aspect except some quality of life features.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Whoo, boy. The bugs. So many. Followers that don't work. Can't cast counterspells when needed. Cast Water Walking then the dice roll anyway, can't cross the river. If you don't like buggy beta tests, skip this one. It's extra sad because we ALREADY went through all this with the classic game, and now the 5th edition has all the same bugs again.

neutral · AI labelView post →I sort of like it? It's kind of hard for me to like it when all of the extra content hasn't been added yet. I might come back to the game when all of it's content releases. For right now the talisman before this is the better option.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →UI us absolutely atroscious Game is dumbed down, many features were removed not to hurt new players feelings. FARMER FIGHT GONE FROM THE TAVERN - REFUND! ...overall the 5th edition is ♥♥♥♥♥, back to 4th...
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I see a lot of negative reviews, and few of them being entirely fair. Pretty much everything they're saying comes down to this game being new still, which there isn't much they could have done about (except put the game in early access I suppose, but that's superficial). "There are bugs and crashes" - that sucks, but hardly rare for a new release. I didn't get any bugs in my testing, so at least the problems aren't universal. I sure couldn't say that about 4th edition at launch! It took…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Brings nothing but several reworked cards, spaces to land on, and additional house-rules over 4th edition. Quite the same thing really but the older one is free. This shouldn't be worth much over that amount in its current state. I'll stay with the 4th edition game until this one improves on more aspects to justify its price.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Wow, this is an interesting surprise! My beloved Chaos in the Old World returns as a reskinned game set in a new Talisman shared universe. Very cool that more people will get to play a version of CitOW. Though I wonder if at least some of its magic is intrinsically linked to its original setting.

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →While I love the game and have done for many decades, there are a lot of bugs in this digital version, some cards don't work as intended, cast anytime spells cannot be cast until specific times, AI controlled spells are revealed when drawn, Chasm takes lives off the player no matter what killing the player most of the time. also a bunch of UI issues and general QOL issues. just not worth the price when there is a 4th edition free to play. 5th edition really dumbs down the game imo, also once a…

neutral · AI labelView post →That Top 30 article... I have to start with this one. Damning with faint praise, much, for Talisman. “Fun for all ages with Talisman, a game of mild strategy. Rating: 4/5.” Mild 😂 I know. It's a choice of words, but it amused me. Almost as much as the side-by-side Rolemaster and RuneQuest. [5/ ]

neutral · AI labelView post →Talisman is a fantastic game, if you don't mind a hefty dose of RNG and a little bit of snowballing. It's an enjoyable form of chaos that is just controllable enough to be a really good time with friends, and rife with those moments where something unexpected happens and everybody yells as the tables suddenly turn. This digital version is rife with problems. It's got awful connectivity issues, the UI misaligns and misfires, giving you actions you didn't click on, it's full of UI animations that…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I really like the Talisman board game but with rolls being predetermined and not actually randomized there are certain things you won't ever succeed at in some games. So it's a crap-shoot and your decisions don't really matter at that point. They made some decent changes to the visuals but somehow still made the game more clunky and less streamlined than 4th edition. Also it's weird that you can hear the mouse clicking in the store page video. Devs if you ever remove the predetermined dice…

neutral · AI labelView post →Each multiplayer game I've played has ended in a disconnection that becomes impossible to reestablish. It happens an hour or so in to the game, ruining the entire experience. Even when playing with other people in the same house with the same internet connection. This game is a complete waste of money when you can't even finish a single game. They shouldn't even be allowed to sell it until this gets fixed imo.
