The team-based mechanics are praised as a unique and interesting concept, though some feel they are underutilized. [1][2][3]

It's just awful. It's a major downgrade from Transformed in every conceivable way. Character roster is boring, music is generic, courses feel generic, no more boat/plane transforming. Very few power-ups and they are generic as all hell too. Overall feels like a cheap, low budget licensed kart racer like DreamWorks All-Star Kart Racing, whereas Transformed was in Mario Kart's league. This is skim milk and Transformed …

Not great. Definitely not as memorable as Transformed and is a step back in many ways. Fortunately, it appears the devs agree as the latest, CrossWorlds, appears to be heavily inspired by Transformed. Maybe wait for that one. If you can't, look up Transformed and play that one instead. EDIT (9-1-25): After playing CrossWorld's demo/NT, I believe that Transformed is the better game by a large margin, which is …

It may not be the best racing game ever made, but it's the sheer broken aspect of this game that just makes it funnier. I've mostly played the switch version when it came out with 2 other friends, we genuinely spent afternoons playing this, from actual games to taking advantage of how broken the physics are in this game for the sake of shenanigans. Music wise, I mean it's a sonic game it rarely if not never …

In my opinion, this is the weakest of the 4 Sonic Racing games currently on steam. I can still recommend it, but barely. At its core, it's a very competent kart racing game. The driving is fun, the tracks are fine, the character is there, audio and music are pretty good, too. Team Adventure was a good idea in theory, but it has bad execution and it explains why they didn't bother to have a story mode in Sonic …

Great game, it's sad that online is dead. There are still groups of people playing the game, if you can find them. solo campaign is still pretty fun against the bots which are decently challenging on Expert and getting 100% feels pretty good (EXCEPT for that one achievement that forces you to sift through leaderboard menu for forever manually). The team mechanics are actually pretty good. I just really wish online …

Players who liked Team Sonic Racing™ talk about team mechanics add a fresh cooperative spin; those who didn't talk about worse than Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed. Which matters more to you?
Critics, per Wikipedia
According to review aggregator website Metacritic, Team Sonic Racing received "mixed or average reviews". Fellow review aggregator OpenCritic assessed that the game received fair approval, being recommended by 60% of critics. Screen Rant observed that critics generally deemed it fun but inferior to the Sega All-Stars titles and Mario Kart 8, which they felt were presented better. Many critics of the game praised the team-based game play and the track designs as well. IGN stated, "Team Sonic Racing nails what matters most: speed and finesse on the racetrack. The new team system is a fantastic evolution of the arcade racing formula that gives you a real reason to work together, and there's a…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →meh, this is a devolution of the 2 previous sonic kart racing games and the story is such a who cares situation

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Not a very good game to play, your better off getting Sonic & SEGA All-Stars Racing or Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed, or just wait for Sonic Racing: Crossworlds
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →just get crossworlds instead, it's better in every way
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I once read a review here that said this one is great for couples to enjoy together because of the team mechanic. That might have some truth to it, but I just haven't been able to enjoy a race on this game. Not yet anyway. I give it a thumbs down. I recommend Sonic Racing Transformed (above even Mario Kart). Have fun and be happy (with Sonic Racing Transformed). Go get Sonic Racing Transformed and all the DLC (except the orange charity dude).
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I miss Sonic Racing CrossWorlds sob
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A mixed review from me personally, though more towards the positive side. While having less single-player content than its predecessor, Transformed, they did add a story mode with a variety of missions and objectives. Much of the technical depth from its predecessor is removed or simplified to be more accessible to the average player, which can be an up or downside depending on what you're looking for in these kinds of games. The driving is still satisfying to learn and execute, though the…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →They went backwards from transformed. Transformed was peak.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →how do people still play mario cart?
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →lagging for no reason Edit: I hate the singleplayer missions to get the key Complete a survival race without losing a team member but they are always on like place 6 or 9 and im always giving them my items but i cant Complete it so i need to wait for the npcs to play better? this is just frustrating and i have no control over it so i need to play the race 100 and need to hope for the KI to play better its like gambling i like gambling but this is just stupid.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is one of those racing games where they have great graphics and cool drift mechanics and inventive fun courses, and little lightning bolts and projectiles that come out of nowhere and spin you out and take you from first place to last place in an instant. There is awesome game here, but it's really not any fun to just get constantly knocked out of progress by things you have no control over or way to see coming. It'd probably be fun in multiplayer.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Why is this game so much better than that new junk they just released? This has better graphics, better gameplay than Worlds.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Not as Bad as people made it out to be. It was clear Sega did not allow them to finish this properly, but what is there mostly works including the online. Give it a shot. It still runs well on most hardware.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Team Sonic Racing Can't say i had a good time with this one overall. The tracks are fun, and the music absolutely slaps (as expected from a Sonic game). Racing as a team adds a neat twist, and it handles well enough to keep things exciting.... But that's it. The roster feels pretty limited, especially compared to Racing Transformed. There’s definitely some missing magic from its predecessor. The story mode doesn’t help much either — it’s just kind of there. We know they did great with…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →8/10 Interesting game! It's a decent game, even if it is the worst game in the Sonic Racing series available for PC. I still prefer Sonic & All Star Racing Transformed because it features characters and tracks from various Sega series. Team Sonic Racing is basically a worse version of S&ASRT. They fixed that with Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds. (I'm still hoping that all the Sega characters from previous games will be available in the new game. And all the characters from Team Sonic Racing. Even…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →unfortunately better than crossworlds
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →i hate this game
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It hurts to say this, but this game is a clear example of what happens when you butcher a good racing game. SASRT was far from perfect, but the gameplay loop it had was nice. Sumo Digital then grabbed SASRT, made the physics worse (somehow), introduced teamplay mechanics that only made the game unbalanced and sometimes even work against you, like the slingshot/skimboost launching you towards a wall or out of bounds, the Team Ultimate making you borderline uncontrollable, and the AI actively…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →In theory, Team Sonic Racing should've been a slam dunk Racer, an extended ASRT, 15 character roster raning from Icons like Sonic to Icons like Silver to Zavok, gorgeous graphics, new items, more customizeable karts, better looking as well, a new upgrade system that's more granulate than the old "Speed-AS and you get to change a few values only" and a great soundtrack to boot. Unfortunately, the entire game is dragged down by the namesake, The Team Racing, especially in the Story Mode, the…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Has Denuvo. Online has been dead for a long time. Story is meh. Gameplay is fun to an extent. Had it on PS4 as well and it's the same thing. Will not be buying anymore Sega titles until Denuvo is removed from all games.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →this game sucks absolute dookie butt and online is ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ dead i hate the team mechanic i just wanna race and win
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I enjoyed this game on Nintendo Switch, but I can't recommend this PC release. On Windows I have annoying audio issues when the game is in focus, and on Linux I got hit with the Denuvo DRM. Would be a good experience if you could acquire without DRM.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A solid racer + expansion on some of All Star Racing Transformed's systems, but falls short solely cause of the singular franchise focus. I did enjoy the team racing dynamic, but it begins to tear apart when there's not much to do with the customization, the story does little to pull you in and its difficulty on anything beyond Normal becomes grueling like previous entries.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I don't hate this game as much as everyone else seems to, but it is very weak compared to previous entries, and now with Crossworlds in the mix, I just can't recommend this game at all. Not over Crossworlds, or especially, the All-Stars Racing games. The biggest reason I have for that is the team racing gimmick. I've never liked teams in racing games, and this game doesn't do it any better than any other racing game out there. I think the course design, graphics, and sountrack are amazing, but…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I love Kart Racers, and this is technically one of them. I don't love this, which is super weird considering I loved the Sonic & All Stars Racing Duo. but this, this isn't so good. it's technically not bad, it's very competent. but again, the Sonic and All Stars Racing Games just do this better and you should buy and play those instead

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Somehow SEGA keeps making worse and worse racing games with the graphics and music only being the areas where some improvement is made. The car racing games peaked with their first entry "Sonic and Sega All-Stars Racing" which is kind of baffling. While the game does look great and sound great what actually matters, the racing, has gotten worse yet again. The AI is rubberbanding like mad and it just feels like it constantly cheats, how the hell can Big the cat casually drive past me as Sonic…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Sonic Racing Crossworlds waiting room.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The team mechanics are interesting and unique, but at the end of the day it's just not much fun. The sense of speed is too low, and the tracks are very wide with long, sweeping turns, so the races don't feel intense and it feels like all you're doing is holding down Accelerate with nothing to do. Drifting also lacks nuance and is way too easy to do, and the on-track boost pads barely do anything to make you feel like you Gotta Go Fast. Go play the presquel, Sonic: Racist Transphobe instead:…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →get it if it’s on sale, singleplayer is fun on its own
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →its just Crossworlds without the filler, infinitely better music, more stylistic and appealing graphics and visuals, better character designs and models, and with a more distinct core titular gameplay mechanic
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Its ok, but nothing special. Play the new one, it's what you want.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →For most people, go play Sonic Racing Crossworlds or Sonic and Sega All Stars Racing Transformed instead of this. But if you find it on a really deep sale, it's not like there isn't any value in it. It's just really hard to justify unless it's dirt cheap (like less than 10$)
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →its boring. go play all stars racing transformed instead.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I am currently suffering through withdrawal now that I can't play Sonic Racing Crossworlds until the 25th, this is a decent substitute I'm just waiting for Crossworlds at this point.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Love the game, its fun with the great maps and secrets. every thing is great, except the elimination races which I think are a bit challenging but still fun!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Nice racing game, the music in some tracks are wonderful.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Team Sonic Racing™ offers a fresh spin on the kart racing genre by emphasizing cooperative team play without sacrificing the fast-paced, arcade-style racing that fans expect from the Sonic franchise. Whether you’re a longtime Sonic fan or a newcomer to the series, Team Sonic Racing™ delivers an…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This Game is kind of poorly Optimized, and crashes during Thunder Deck, and Haunted Castle and asides from the negative stuff, the OST is good! My favorite one is Sky Road, and ones i Enjoy!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →After playing this im skeptical about crossworld. This game is so bad. Go play the older version. The only cool thing about the game is they took levels from the last 2 sonic games and gave it a better graphic the worst part is the maps dosnt change like on transformed becorse there is no boat or plane anymore that make it more boring. Even worse is when you on the first olace and your NPC teammates is on the last place you still lose what joke is that ? Who came whit the idea to make a team…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I believe TSR is a very underrated kart racer. While it isn't as good as Transformed, it's not outright better than Team and Team's got some great stuff. If you're looking for a Kart Racer that's pretty cheap but unique I'd easily recommend it, especially if it's on sale. The team mechanic is something I find very amazing and has potential, but I understand that some won't find it amusing especially since Transformed is overall better. Don't sleep on TSR, it's an underrated gem. Also the music…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Pros - Having teamates in a race is a neat and interesting concept. - There is Japanese voice acting! Cons - In adventure mode, you have to win one of the challenges in order to play the next race. That is really dumb. Why is adventure mode rigged that I have to win everything? - The graphics are awful. At 1440p it looks blurry. - No ultrawide support, just a tiny box.
