Visually beautiful, but the game feels like playing candy crush with extra steps. It is almost impossible to lose, you just select your building and scroll around the map to find the area that gives you maximum points. And repeat. Good for relaxation for a wqhile i guess, but soon it gets repetitive and not challenging at all.

TerraScape is a puzzle game disguised as a city builder. It starts really well, but quickly loses its steam: - It rewards quantity over quality. Your deck is quickly overflown with buildings and you can just aimlessly place them not thinking much about synergy and adjacency - Beating your high score is a poor motivation. There is any other reward - just the numbers go up - Scenarios are easy and don't offer a good challenge - Once you unlocked all the decks, there is not much to explore -…

Nice little game, great graphics and atmosphere, love the whole puzzle idea to get points with combos etc... but... There is waaaayyyy too much clutter. It's a headache to figure out everything in between the nice graphics (you can turn off the clouds that helps a little) but then in order to see everything going on you start turning on filters/highlights and somehow it gets even busier on your screen.... at the end its tiring...

I can see why people like this game, as a chill building game. Personally I don't think there's enough puzzle or strategy, which is how it's marketed. After you learn the system, you follow more or less the same strategy for every building. It's not a bad game, it just doesn't make it into my recommended.

Phenomenal game if you have OCD. Ignore the other people in the reviews, they are literally drooling buffoons. The game is very intuitive and straight forward, it allows for a lot of flexibility and planning. The game has many game modes to suit your style of play, a "campaign" that gives you quests that chain. Scenario which is just, get the score before you run out of points or land. Puzzle, where you put your brain to the test to complete a challenge with prepared cards and a special map.…

The tutorial leaves you guessing, which a tutorial should not do. Save that for the main game. Missing lots of labels and UI bits like scrollbars. Will give you tons of cards you don't need and not the ones you need for the active quest. Is there only a limited number of each card? No idea, since the UI has no such indication. Hopefully these design decisions can be fixed and I can give a thumbs up in the future.

Really enjoyable and eye candy. It's a puzzle game based on tile placement: you start with a pre-existing map and you have to place buildings on it. You score point based on placement: for example, a fish trap generates more points if closer to a bank of fish; a market if closer to city districts, and so on. The higher the points, the higher the score, the more decks (thematic sets of cards) and draws (turns) you unlock. When you run out of draws, it's game over. This forces you to be strategic…

Overall I think TerraScape is a beautiful puzzle game that suffers from the requirement of too much forethought and future knowledge. So many aspects of success and progression are tied to knowing how buildings merge or interact with each other, which makes the early to mid-game unrewarding and a pain with little variety in building placement. The Decks, Planning & Trading The Deck system can work when dealt a good set of cards but most of my time I was given cards that aren't useful or cards…

"Finished" my first game with a friend. The game desyncs between buildings (he merges some buildings like hospital and others but it doesn't show for me so i can place other buildings there which doesn't show for them). Game is unfinishable, you just can't finish, you just have to stop playing and go to main menu. This gave us no "experience" so our profiles are level 0 but has like 200+ buildings placed. Very unsatisfying start to a game that now feels very uncompleted.

it reminds me of Dorfromantik but instead of placing single tiles that only care about direct neighbors you place buildings that care about their surroundings. there are sets of buildings that you choose from (the game calls these decks) which you merge to alter the surrounding area and give you more options artstyle looks great and you unlock more visual variants of the buildings and resources as you progress in the game

This is a really fun little puzzle/town builder. Simple, easy to learn and fun. The art style is bright and delightful. Though a larger map can cause the game to become a bit drawn out and repetitive, the scenarios are fun, brief and let you explore the various elements of the game. A few more building combinations would be great but what is here now can, when the cards finally fall for you, cause great groans of satisfaction as the buildings upgrade.

I only do not recommend, because of the multiplayer implementation. This doesn't affect single player at all. So don't let yourself be discouraged to buy the game if you just plan to play it alone. We bought it for multiplayer, but for some reason unknown, even in co-op you need to take turns and one player is always sitting around idle, which kills a lot of fun. I don't get that decision.

Generally positive. I do think it gets a little tedious with guessing the intended build location for each element and in the right order and right combo to get the max points to pass. I'm finding myself having to constantly tab out to guides to figure out what pairs create the intended building combo. I think it'd be a lot smoother experience if that was shown directly on the card's mouseover once you discover it.

You may want to give an Anno game a try. Best recent one is Anno 1800, but Anno 2070, 1404 and 2205 are great as well. In these you manage population levels, needs and logistical chains instead of traffic. Or maybe look into more survivaly city builders like Kingdoms&Castles, Nova Roma, Farthest Frontier or Banished. If you want more puzzle than city builder then there's Terrascape or Dorfromantik. Finally, you may enjoy Railgrade or Train Valley 2 - these are not city builders, but tycoon…

3 hours in, I am happy to give this game the thumbs up, especially at its current 50% off price - and doubly if it goes on an even deeper discount. We have a good relaxing card-based city builder, puzzler with multiple game modes (build a city, solve a puzzle, challenges with online rankings), scenarios that take hours to complete with specific goals and now, with the new Ancient Egypt DLC, with different buildings. Just bad design. In order to complete levels you need to make "merged buildings" which comes from placing basic buildings next to each other, however the game does not tell you what buildings need to be placed where for this to happen, making the game mostly random trial and error. Not fun, not good design, absolutely not recommended.

If you like hexagon games and puzzles, this is a really good game. I'm excited for the upcoming DLC. My two complaints are: The Scenarios secondary goals don't always count buildings correctly. It sort of forces you to play through it again with everything you have to build and in what order in mind. Makes it tedious and less fun. \ The other thing is that I don't find the High Score mode very compelling. It might just be a mismatch of playstyle for me personally, but it's just hard to…

A lot like Islanders, but you lose quite a lot of legibility (probably this game's biggest issue) and gain pretty graphics, a neat building merge mechanic, and a deck draw mechanic that is sort of 50/50 whether it adds anything or is just frustrating. There are a few other QOL issues still, like scenarios requiring that you place cards which can't be reliably generated by the player. But this is a very fun game in the puzzle city builder vein.

Fun chill building game, but not a lot of variety after the first half-dozen missions or so. Hidden combos seem somewhat random sometimes, and with no way to undo more than the last move it's hard to figure them out without looking up cheats. Very original puzzle game, with not just one but two distinct synergy mechanisms between the buildings. In essence it is about building supply chains for a city, but the order of constructions and the relative placements of the buildings define the scoring, which determines whether you unlock the next set of cards. Very well executed, simpler than Caesar/Pharaoh but still complex enough to be enjoyable. The simplicity makes it so that most missions can be completed in 1-2h game sessions.

I really enjoy digital card and board games, city/colony building sims, and strategy games, so the way the developers combined these genres make it the perfect game for me. I like the idea of building a city/colony without having to worry about not having enough resources and such. You simply place the buildings/tiles where you need them to get points. The buildings affect each other positively and negatively, so you have to be strategic about where (and when) you place the buildings. There…

Graphics are pretty, but gameplay lacks a lot of depth. Cards of different decks have hardly any synergy, all synergy mostly exists just within the 4 cards of a single deck, with limited "tacked on" extra cards from higher tier decks. You can have infinite cards in your hand, which means that the entire challange of the game is just "plan your entire map out ahead of time", instead of forcing you to think on your feet that would come from randomly drawn cards and a limited hand size. This is actually a very interesting evolution on relaxing city-builders. There's a strange balance between the simplicity of the game mechanic and the complexity of various possibilities. The core mechanic is similar to hexagonal tile settlers, like Dorfromantic, where you get randomized cards and play the cards to add structures to various available tiles. But Terrascape goes even further, both in terms of giving you a wider range of choices in what kind of card subsets your random cards…

Once I did about half of the puzzle maps I found the other modes easy to grasp and a blast to play. I love the strategy and grid plotting without the pressure of a timer for this game. I'm not upset about having it, but it gets old very fast. The early buildings can fail you on your first turn, and some of the later buildings are basically useless unless you've unlocked a different set of buildings that aren't considered prerequisites to unlocking them. Not upset it's in my library, but I probably won't be revisiting it very often.

Suprisingly catching deckbuilder / puzzle game. Gets a little bit annoying when you try to remember all the merged combinations or don't know which tree your target building is. 8.5/10 overall

Love it, looks like a strategy game and feels equally comforting, by "only" being a puzzle game. Very Soothing.

Very relaxing game and I think it's one of the best card games out there! I enjoy it a lot and I love the building and strategy and also the beautiful views and order of things.

I've got this game through giveaway and played for a couple of hours. So far I like it, every game unlocks a bit of a progress which I enjoy since it gives extra repeatability, game-play isn't rushed. Every game I've started felt rewarding and It's a very good time killer with neat, detailed graphic design.
