neutral · AI labelView post →is it a "weird film fact" that he's almost drown a bunch of people a bunch of times? and like theres a reason you dont see Ed or Mary appearing in other Cameron films after The Abyss that scene where he's slapping her? HE'S ACTUALLY SLAPPING HER

neutral · AI labelView post →I mean. I assume other people immediately said THE ABYSS But it bears repeating. Seeing that on the screen — we had literally never seen anything like what that movie did ever before. I will never forget what that felt like.
positive · AI labelView post →On a huge $70m budget, The Abyss grossed just $90m at the box office, making it Cameron’s first flop and the only film ever directed by him not to debut at number 1 at the US box office. Over time though, it has found an audience, and is now generally highly thought of. 51/52

neutral · AI labelView post →Years later, having had huge success with The Terminator and Aliens, Cameron was one of the hottest filmmakers in Hollywood. He decided he wanted his next film to be based on The Abyss and, after writing a treatment, Cameron signed a deal with 20th Century Fox to produce. 3/52

neutral · AI labelView post →More movies with underwater scenes: Thunderball, a Connery Bond film that literally ends with a massive scuba spear gun battle! Underwater! Aliens meets Cthulhu meets the Abyss! The Abyss! Deep Star Six! Deep Blue Sea!
neutral · AI labelView post →Woke up to the news that Screaming Mad George (Joji Tani) passed away. This guy is as iconic as they come for special effects fans, especially in horror. Big Trouble in Little China, Predator, Society, The Abyss, Tales from the Hood... He also directed the film The Guyver. He was a living legend.

neutral · AI labelView post →I really enjoyed the Abyss. Apparently it was incredibly grueling to film: "“The demanding shoot caused exhaustion among some of the crew members, and they came up with their own names for the film, including “Son of Abyss”, “The Abuse”, and “Life’s Abyss And Then You Dive.“ -All the Right Movies.

neutral · AI labelView post →I watched The Last House, and it's an interesting concept. Elements of it reminded me of The Abyss. I wonder at the antagonists' choice to just trap everyone when they have such power over water. The family's survival is down to just sheer luck, but the timeframe seems a bit much to suspend belief.

neutral · AI labelView post →"Ethical is better than holy" is a line that an action-hero would say in a movie, right before they blasted the shit out of the Big-Bad before sending them to the Abyss. I'm sorry for your loss Dan; but also, what a magnificent woman to have to imbue you with her spirit.

neutral · AI labelView post →James Cameron hasn't made a good film since T2. With T1/2, Aliens and The Abyss, I never thought I'd want him to retire. But, go to bed old man.

positive · AI labelView post →Just a heads up for anyone who enjoys the 1989 film The Abyss. It's currently streaming on Tubi. :3 If you haven't seen it, I highly recommend it. ^o^
positive · AI labelView post →“Plankton” (aka “Creatures from the Abyss”) (1984) - Al Passeri wrote, directed, produced, and shot his very first movie about prehistoric mutant fish killing horny 30 year old Italian teenagers on an abandon yacht at sea. 4 / 5 Burnt Kernels with Butter and Free Refills youtu.be/DM4cseI6rVE?...
neutral · AI labelView post →The Abyss is the better, more serious movie but this? This is so. Much. Fun. Doesn't hurt that it looks so good and that Stan Winston's fx has aged a whole lot better than the other underwater monster b-movies from the same time.
neutral · AI labelView post →Decided to dust off some DVDs for the Sunday Movie Night. Tonight’s screening is James Cameron’s The Abyss (1989). It’s been a hot minute since I saw it last, and it is as impressive and good as ever. The visuals are just so fucking good, and makes me wanna play Subnautica.
positive · AI labelView post →Absolutely *love* the Abyss - Camerons best film IMHO. You've reminded me cue up a rewatch!
positive · AI labelView post →The background story of the movie The Abyss. A flop when it came up, it is still one of my favourite movies ever. It holds up very well. The effort that went into making it is incredible! It is unique and one of the three movies that define Cameron's style (Terminator & Aliens being the other two)

neutral · AI labelView post →THE ABYSS (1989) question: What’s the greatest underwater movie? THE ABYSS? JAWS? DEEPSTAR SIX? LEVIATHAN? Or is there another deep-sea nightmare we should be talking about? 🎧 pod.link/1477564319 #filmpodcast #podernfamily
neutral · AI labelView post →THE ABYSS (1989) wasn’t just about surviving underwater. Making the movie practically required it. James Cameron’s notoriously punishing production pushed underwater filmmaking to extraordinary extremes. 🎧 pod.link/1477564319 #filmpodcast #podernfamily

neutral · AI labelView post →The Abyss: While the fluid breathing scene with the rat was a genuine demonstration, Ed Harris had to film all his deep diving scenes while holding his breath until he could use a respirator between takes.
neutral · AI labelView post →Yes! Whether it is in Crichton's book or it was just done for the film - I definitely noticed the similarities with The Abyss

positive · AI labelView post →Cameron, J. (Director), & Salomon, M. (Cinematographer). (1989). The Abyss [Film]. 20th Century Fox.
neutral · AI labelView post →My favourite in this genre is Plankton aka Creatures from the Abyss - a poorly dubbed Italian Horror I found down the back of a charity shop. It is a terrible film made on a $250k budget about plankton that has escaped containment. CW: for freaky fish sex!??
neutral · AI labelView post →Tonight’s viewing is The Abyss because I wanted a comfort movie I hadn’t seen in a while.
positive · AI labelView post →I haven't found many director's cuts I've liked, TBH. Blade runner. Meh (Harrison Ford's voice over narration actually works). LOTR: many more scenes of hobbits running. Justice League: never make a bad movie longer. The Abyss, Aliens: just more not better. They're fine fan service I guess but meh.
neutral · AI labelView post →So many all-timers to me as well listed in these sets. Stargate was my favourite movie for a couple of years, and Beetlejuice is one of Burton's best. The Abyss and Close Encounters impressed me greatly when I was little.
neutral · AI labelView post →The Abyss is a VASTLY underrated film in almost every respect. It still breaks my brain that the rat was doing REAL liquid breathing because it was easier to do than to fake.
positive · AI labelView post →omg! literally omg This is totally from the move The Abyss youtu.be/CLbFzFbSz8U... real youtu.be/xDx1gJaiwCs... movie
neutral · AI labelView post →I hate that my brain just replaces this movie with The Abyss. Its a real highlander sitch in my memory.
neutral · AI labelView post →The Abyss was a VERY underrated movie. It was great for 99% of it, but the ending was meh, which I think is why it wasn’t a bigger hit. It was also Michael Biehn’s best performance.
