What players are saying
Counted from the reviewers’ own thumbs up/down on the 115 English Steam reviews we collected, not by the AI. Valve’s all-language rating: Mostly Positive (119 of 168 positive).
Players praise the immersive atmosphere, graphics, and voice acting. [1][2][3] Some reviewers note the lack of motion controller support for VR. [2][4][5] Several players find the game short and the puzzles too simple. [6][7][8]

Almost insultingly simple puzzles, story is very cliche and extremely slow paced, and is full of "pseudo-intellectual" nonesense and so-deep moral dilemmas. Not worth the money VR or no VR. The game was also 3hrs long, and I took quite a lot of time examining every room (for seemingly nothing mostly.)

DONT BELIEVE THE OTHER REVIEWERS!!!!! The game looks nice and has an intruiging framework with this mystical organisation. The puzzles are demanding and interesting as well. NONETHELESS: the game takes like 2 hours to play through and the story is a HUGE disappointment in the end without any real implications for the planet or something, like i wouldve expected since the assembly is such an allmighty organisation... …

Highly recommended, the Assembly is one of the few VR games that feels like a complete experience. -Adventure game where you take the role of 2 people who are having very different experiences. One is a new comer who is going through a series of trials (read puzzles) The other is an insider with an agenda. -Excellent graphics, lots of attention to detail which helps immerse you in the setting; A large science …

It's a shame all the negativity this game gets from Vive users because of the lack of motion controllers. Yeah it would have been nice if it was implemented, but I enjoyed this game a lot the way it is. It has nice graphics that runs at a steady 90 fps with supersampling set to 1.3 on a 980ti. The story is interesting, and kept me pushing on. Played through it in 2 sittings on the Vive. It has different options for …

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Stunt Island The Assembly Line / Walt Disney Computer Software 1992 In this game you can position cameras on the island, program the movement of objects, fly with aircrafts and then edit your own stunt movies. This is the "location scouting" demo that comes with the game, showing the scenery.

neutral · AI labelView post →If you like first-person exploration games with a slight touch of puzzles, this may be worthwhile when on sale. Otherwise, it'll probably feel lacking. It's not a Myst or Obduction or Talos or Quern. It's more like Firewatch, where there's not many puzzles and it's more about taking in the atmosphere and story than it is exploring worlds and solving puzzles. The game is essentially wandering around a few different floors of a secret research facility. There are a few puzzles, but not many,…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I just finished playing through the non-VR version of the game. PROs: Interesting storyline Noticable attention to detail in modelled game assets Clever adaptation of the puzzle/sleuth genre into the intended VR format CONS: Short game! I'm quite impressed with what nDreams has been able to create. And while the game is rather short, it has some replayability. I look forward to playing this again when I have an HTC Vive!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A refreshingly different VR experience. Most of my VR time has been with my kids playing short experiences for 10-20 minutes, and I wanted to try something with a bit more depth. Whilst it's not perfect, being able to explore an environment in a bit more detail has been a nice change and I've really enjoyed my first few hours. I hope it's a success, as we need more VR games like this and hopefully it will encourage developers to continue to try and push the format forward.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →UPDATE: (I wish there was a maybe button, but I'm recommending anyways) This game is great. It works as a standing experience or as a sitting one in VR. I've not tried non-vr but I'm sure vr is where it shines. Pros: -wonderful graphics and voice acting. It's very immersive. -interesting puzzles and locations -very polished for a vr game -interesting story -5-6 hours of playtime. Cons: -no motion controller support -you must exit steamvr BEFORE launching the game. It caused a lot of problems…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Great game, Truely more of a singleplayer experience with the Vive then any other game I have bought which is quite a few. People leaving negative reviews seem to be based on motion controllers which is not an aspect I found took away from the experience I enjoyed from this game. Having said that you need controller support to fully aceess this game. No bugs experienced when playing with vive. This game is worth the money and is the most in depth game I have enjoyed so far. If you own a vive…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I feel really sorry to write this. But the game is uplayable if you are using HTC VIVE. It has loads of bugs, and has no support of vive controllers. How can I get the refund?
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Very nice, the game looks really good, i like the visuals, and voice acting. I am playing The Assembly on Normal screen, no VR for me, but its very well optimized and feels very good so far. Im not too far into the story yet, but already from the beginning hooked and cant wait to find out everything in this world. positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →So I paid $29 for the full VR game, well the damn game won't load. Crashes out right at the start. I requested a refund and they are currently processing my $19 refund....wtf I paid 29 for this damn thing. Starting to become my worst steam purchase ever...

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I'm updating this review after ending the game. 6.2hrs with 22/29 achievements, I was quite sure to reach most of achievements to be honest, it's a good surprise (especially the achievement for collect all dossiers). Could be surely finished in the half of the time, if you jump away to dialogues or exploration, but with a such mood could be better an action game than an adventure. Great story, extremely geek oriented, moral choices during the game and well... I'm sad the game is ended to be…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Oh, The Assembly... Well, for a "walking simulator" it's quite serviceable. As is usually the case in these games, you spend most of the time walking around, inspecting different items while looking for the handful of specific ones that will let you move on to the next area. It's par for the course and works like you'd expect. The game also has some simple but neat puzzle solving sprinkled in to break up the monotony, which is a welcome distraction when it occurs. Presentation isn't bad, with…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The greatest advantage Bonaparte had over his opponents in the Assembly was that they took the rules of the game seriously, they thought that norms mattered, whereas he saw it all as a game or a joke.
neutral · AI labelView post →I played this with the HTC vive. Pros: -Story driven with great voice acting. I played the german version. There is not much story driven VR content but this would be good without VR too. -Graphics. While probably not groundbreaking they are good enough to feel like you're there. Playing with a Titan X Pascal at 1.8 SS it looked great. -Sound, Music, Voice acting - just great Cons: -The added motion controls are just that: Added. You'll never need to actually duck to find something. You can…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I think that, as a Vive owner, I was a bit disappointed by the lack of motion controller support. I think when the Rift also has these, every game that involves walking about will absolutely *need* this capability - and I would guess The Assembly will get that in time. (If you want a good example of this, look to Vanishing Realms, a much lower visual fidelity game perhaps, but one that wins hugely in terms of immersion from its control method). That said, plug in a 360 controller and it…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Mind blowing! Really polished VR Experience. They did everything right in regards of VR support: Several controll options and the game runs smooth on 90 fps. The graphics are really stunning! I definitely recommend it to every person that has a Vive or an Oculus! PS: Special thanks for adding the classic movement option! I'm not a real fan of snap turning and teleportation.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →it's not a bad game not awesome either, but charging 5 euro to unlock VR mode for a game developped with vr mechanics is unethical, "you can afford a vr headset, you must be rich, let's me charge you for that"
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is the best game i ever played in awhile i highly recommend it but if you have a low proformace pc graphics will be bad but i had a high proformace and had it set to highest and it is just so well detailed so i highly recommend it
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Keeps you mildly entertained for a short time. The credits surprised me. Other games like this are way better in story, world and gameplay fun. I got it at a reduced price and sadly that was still too much. Really, don't. - short - not deep - world makes not too much sense and feels very graphically dated - No graphics settings, requires editing of unreal config ini. - English voice acting is good. German voice not so good. Imagine your dad making up voices for a bedtime story - Changing voice…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →"Wolfie's fine honey" - if you like sci-fi/cyberpunk/medpunk exploration with a touch of really not difficult but touching and rewarding puzzles then this is for you. Great story, good voice acting, supremely clever references to everything from Dead Island to Terminator, Gattaca, and Condemned Criminal Origins, to name a few. A little on the short side and the ending leaves a little to be desired, but truly enjoyed The Assembly. 8/10.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The same is true of Israel. But that's the Assembly of Satan for you. They serve Legion masters, but none of them humanity. They've a larger game plan, as they see it. Armageddeon. They think they can win.
neutral · AI labelView post →The story is almost cartoonish, the controls are always fighting you and the puzzles are for children 3+
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I believe the rule is if you can't say anything nice,. say nothing,. So I will start with the good things about this game. The graphics are great! really some of the best I've seen in VR yet. The Voice acting is really good and the sound is great. So now with the problems I have with this game. First off it's painfully ovbvious it is a port into VR from your standard point and click computer adventure game. When I'm playing VR I want to feel like I'm really there. I want to be able to…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →does not work on Vive on vive you are required to use the keyboard and mouse, however there's no way to change the game orientation, so I was forced to sit sideways at my desk.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Awesome game puzzles to easy tho :)
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Fantastic puzzle/exploration game that really shows off what VR is capable of, I've enjoyed every second so far and definitely recommend it!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I am enjoying the game and so are my family, who like to try all things VR. I think it is good that developers are now making longer games that are more than a tech demo, something to really be a part of and get into. Go grab it and get immersed.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →VR Only Review! It's a very good Mystery/Story/Puzzle solver game, very polished graphics. Not really my type of game, but a 8/10 Game as I have an definate urge to complete a game I normally get bored with. Personally I'd Rather be shooting everyone in the face than looking through drawers and reading emails in offices, but the story is good, the chopping between two characters is good and keeps you interested Well worth a Play With a few out of game issues... It Could do with Motion…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →2 Minute Video Review → https://youtu.be/rNA0PqGljDs The Assembly is an adventure game with a modern day storyline. You alternate between two different characters’ story paths: A research scientist who works at The Assembly, and an applicant who is being tested by The Assembly. You take turns playing each character as the plot thickens and their stories converge. Throughout the game you’ll be engaging in puzzles, item hunting, and moral choices. I think this game was originally made for…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I'm surprised this game has so many good reviews. The story seems like it has a lot of promise as you go along and I expected some sort of epic finale after all the endless exploration, build-up of the story (which got way more convoluted at the end without much added interest or real conclusion to the main storyline) and annoyingly simple puzzles, which were also very few and far between, bookended between repetitive and pointless exploration of endless dull offices. Makes VR uninspiring and…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I tried this with both the xbox controller sitting and Vive controllers in roomscale and was disappointed with both interfaces. Sitting with the controller felt like it should have been a roomscale game but forced a controller on it. Using roomscale it felt like an interface designed for a controller. Worst of both sides. I would recommend playing it sitting with a gaming controller In Vive controller mode the interact button is also the same as the teleport button and often I found myself…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →20. Pipe Dream (The Assembly Line, 1989, multi). Clones of this game used to be everywhere, almost as common as Tetris. Shareware developer William Soleau must have published at least four of them. "Oh, the Bioshock hack minigame?" I've heard people say. Used to be *this* was the entire game, man.
neutral · AI labelView post →Great game, In a world of games with little depth for the vive this one has a really interesting story. It starts off a bit slow , I actyually lost interest until I did the first trial, and saw how the story was going to unfold. It is also something you can sink 6 to 8 hours on without repeating any content, which is super rare on the vive right now. This game is really wortht he 30$. if you want and there are multiple endings. Pros: -great length especially for vive game. not too long or…

The Assembly Hall scoring record is 43. No Indiana player has ever made more than nine 3s in a game. Lotta ball left. #iubb

I played and completed this game on the Oculus Rift on Steam in 5.7 hours with a lot of leaving the game playing in the background. Pros: Nice visuals Easy puzzles/some are actually fun Interesting concept nice parts to the story Very nice leaderboard at the end to compare yourself to other players (a very nice touch to this type of genre!)…

The game felt like a movie where it builds ups for the whole movie then the last 5 minutes its gets epic and leaves you on a cliff hanger i wish they mixed in more story in the beginning, feels like a game that could have been an hour with out the filler. The voice acting was really well done and overall worth a play-through if your looking…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I enjoyed this game. Was surprised to see all the negative reviews. Granted I played on steam deck not VR but I found it to be an engrossing walking simulator with a good story and solid voice acting. The fact all your decisions made throughout the game have an impact on which ending you achieve was cool. Most of the puzzles were on the easy side but a few times I found myself lost without clues, turns out I was missing something right in front of my face which was kinda frustrating.…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Impressive graphic quality, but the story is confusing and gameplay is slow and dreary.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Didn't get very far into it. The story and gameplay seems interesting enough, but really needs support for index controllers. Some other QOL changes would be nice, too. Like, being able to recenter the camera view. Made it very frustrating to play.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's quite pretty with fairly simple puzzles and seems fairly linear. It is quite short and there only seems to be a little bit of replayability I might go back and discover the other Adam options The controls are fairly well done and the story isn't bad. Feels a little odd that in a high security secret lab, almost no-one locks their PCs, they leave confidential files in plain sight and leave incriminating evidence on memo recorders but then the entire story is a little contrived! I think it…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Do not buy this game. First, the game is super buggy and freezes or crashes frequently. All of my other VR games run without issue so i know the problem is not on my side. In addition, the game is simply not fun. While the voice acting is decent and the graphics are good it seems like the developers never asked themselves the question - Is this game actually fun to play? Unless you are extremely new to VR and just want some pretty environments to look at i would recommend staying away from…
