The Curse of La Llorona
Directed by Michael Chaves
In 1970s Los Angeles, the legendary ghost La Llorona is stalking the night -- and the children. Ignoring the eerie warning of a troubled mother, a social worker and her own kids are drawn into a frightening supernatural realm. positive · AI labelView post →Even though it’s technically not part of the Conjuring universe, I gave The Curse of La Llorona a rewatch too. It’s a fairly standard film, but the characters aren’t compelling. The scares can sometimes be neat but often look cheesy. Somehow this director took over the franchise from here on out???
neutral · AI labelView post →Also I like how this headline kinda suggests there's a movie called "Scooby-Doo and the Curse of La Llorona"
neutral · AI labelView post →The Curse of La Llorona is a 2019 horror film. The legend tells of a woman who drowned her children and now haunts the living, seeking others. #phantomsfriday
neutral · AI labelView post →YIKES. The Curse of La Llorona (2019) feels like a fan-film more than a Conjuring universe movie. Loosely tied by Father Perez (Annabelle), this film falls flat in scares, characters and overall drama. Not recommendable ⭐️

positive · AI labelView post →1. The Curse of La Llorona (2019) I thought 'hm, let me start with a silly horror movie' and regretted it almost immediately. but it's my fault, i should have looked up if it was in any shape or form related to the conjuring universe bc that shit pisses me off. anyway, terrible start skfdhsjdfs
negative · AI labelView post →The Curse of La Llorona (2019) 7/10 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭💀💀💀 The forgotten Conjuring film is actually pretty good. Linda Cardellini is always a win. I was invested in her trying to protect her kids. Making her a CPS Agent works with the ghost. Decent jump scares and suspense. Not revolutionary but a good time.
positive · AI labelView post →Tsk tsk tsk, Regal. You're missing THE CURSE OF LA LLORONA. I know Peter Safran likes to pretend that it doesn't count, but anyone who has actually seen the film knows that isn't true. Plus it was originally pushed early on as an entry.
neutral · AI labelView post →Finished The Curse of La Llorona. The most amateurish of The Conjuring films. It’s really weak, despite some promise. It also doesn’t utilize the folklore of this movies title to its fullest. The movie is just so formulaic. 2/10
negative · AI labelView post →I had really high hopes for this. I love when creepypastas pr urban legends get movie adaptations but WOW! That was even worse than The Curse Of La Llorona 💀💀💀
negative · AI labelView post →I watched this film last night and I highly recommend it, especially in this moment. It is horror, but more drama in genre, about the genocide in Guatemala. (Do not confuse it with “The Curse of La Llorona, which is slop from the Conjuring Universe.) www.criterion.com/films/33103-...

neutral · AI labelView post →Lee Cronin knows how to make a gnarly film and his Mummy movie had me squirming, so mission accomplished, but this movie proudly sits on a shelf alongside THE CURSE OF LA LLORONA as weird cultural throwbacks. You think we’ve progressed as a society and then - boom! - “What if Mummy was white girl?”

neutral · AI labelView post →I love that this is part of the Conjuring Universe, as this is a common folk tale told in Latin American households. I know we used it to test how brave other kids were, as there were horrible stories of people seeing her face and getting scratched in the bathrooms. I really enjoyed this telling of the story as it was terrifying and had scary jump moments to it. Great cast, great facial expressions they were able to carry throughout the film

neutral · AI labelView post →'The Curse of La Llorona' entertained me! First and foremost, the La Llorona demon is exactly what I wanted 'The Nun' to be - creepy without words, a perfect mix. The filmmakers utilise the character nicely, as well as importantly setting the right tone. Not to quote Gloria Stuart, but it feels like forever since I've enjoyed a movie from this franchise - and this isn't even an 'official' part of 'The Conjuring' universe (which probably explains why it's actually good - harsh, yet true). That's…

La Llorona, not to be confused with The Curse of La Llorona from the same year, is a unique, beautifully grim takedown of Fascism.
neutral · AI labelView post →Acting was fine but the rest was one big cliche of the supernatural-horror genre with too many jump scares and the evil entity pretty much reminded me of the Nun, which makes sense since this is set in the Conjuring Universe.
negative · AI labelView post →Where I'm from, this was marketed as The Curse of the Weeping Woman 'cause I guess Australia can't be trusted with to pronounce a Spanish word. Similarly, I guess Warner Bros. can't be trusted to make a horror movie without cramming it into the bloated Conjuring franchise. I love seeing Linda Cardellini get work, but I don't know that a La Llorona movie was the best choice to put her in lead of, and I do know that this La Llorona movie was a bad choice, just like... Generally speaking. "Bad"…
negative · AI labelView post →If you enjoy reading my Spoiler-Free reviews, please follow my blog :) It’s not as bad as The Nun, let me write this straight away. If there’s one thing that this movie proves is Michael Chavestalented filmmaking skills, which offers hope for The Conjuring 3. Contrary to the other spin-off of the universe, The Curse of La Llorona toned down on the lazy exposition and elevated its scary sequences, simply by having a more capable director. Beautiful one-take scenes are spread throughout the…
