I'm quite sure that anyone who is paying for a 20+ year old game already knows everything there is to know, so this review is mostly meaningless. However, I’d still like to add my two cents about how much of a cope surrounds it and what kind of fanatic cult Morrowind has built. Do you know that most of the quests in this game are fetch quests? Do you know that it actually has an incredibly simple and empty open …

This game is a paradox. It's aged poorly, but still holds up. It's one of the best RPGs I've ever played, and it sucks as a game for playing a role. The reality is that it's probably too old and janky to be appealing to new players- it's from an era of gaming where you had to commit some time to learning HOW to play a game "correctly", and most players will be entirely turned off within minutes of walking into the …

Morrowind was my first proper RPG, and I was way too young to understand what it was asking of me. I was about six when it came out, playing it on the old cream-coloured family PC with one of those massive CRT monitors. The game barely ran. The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind is a masterpiece that all gamers should play. Its only flaw is the bugs. Even if you are a purist like I am, please use at least a basic bug fix mod. This game, even with all the patches Bethesda released throughout 2002-2003, does not function correctly. For example, the entire pickpocketing mechanic does not work and will basically always fail even if you max out the stats for it, and this is clearly not intentional. If you are playing this game for the…

Single player, open world, fantasy, RPG games. I mean the niche best known for Bethesda's The Elder Scrolls III, IV and V. 1. (Fantasy) The setting is a fictional world with fantastical elements, and a comparable level of societal progress as the 1600s or earlier. 2. (Character Creation) You create your own role: character and class. It is a permanent character. 3. (Action) You have direct control over your characters actions in real time. 4. (Open World / Sandbox) You aren't forced to do…

This game is older than me and yes visually it's very dated now. I understand that there are more mods for this game for all kinds of things from graphics to bug fixes and quests. I've been playing the vanilla game as it was intended and I'm enjoying it so much. It doesn't hold your hand at all and this is exactly why it's hooked me in. The game world is awesome. Hard to get into, rough around the edges, but still worth playing in 2026 If you are looking to experience this game for the first time, here's three things that might help: 1) Get the openMW project and use that to run your game. It's easy to set up and will be more stable on modern hardware, while also running smoother. It's also supports a lot of mods. 2) Get your reading glasses and get comfy. There is a lot of text. Only a few lines in the game are voiced. Quests have a lot of text,…

As someone whose first Elder Scrolls game was Skyrim, I have to admit that I adore Morrowind the most. Morrowind gives you so many freedoms that neither Oblivion nor Skyrim allow. While the game is slower than the newer games, this isn't a bad thing in my opinion; taking the game slower lets you take in more of the world in a way that modern games just don't do anymore.

However, it's an easy install. You basically just unzip, click on the exe, install on Windows or Linux, then just literally hit play. There's many VR options. What hasn't already been said about Morrowind? There's no Western RPG quite like it - and yes, it really does feel like an RPG, unlike some of its successors. You can laugh at the fact that each race only gets like six faces if you want, and if you're new, be patient - you'll be crawling along until you get the Boots of Blinding Speed. But it's worth it for all that this game has to offer. Bring back Michael Kirkbride!

Unbelievably cozy and charming game Enjoyed this masterpiece almost as much as Skyrim. —The graphics are old af but kinda cute. Everything looks like it's a part of some old, badass fantasy cartoon. The visual style is brilliant; Vvardenfell looks truly magical with its giant mushrooms, flying jellyfish-esque creatures, awe-inspiring silt striders, and ominous Daedric ruins. —The gameplay has aged surprisingly well. The controls are smooth; the combat is basically RNG combat from…

(the 0.3 hours playtime is for the original game - I played using Open MW and ended up with 80 hours) I first tried Morrowind shortly after Oblivion came out and bounced off it quickly. I've tried again a couple of times, but bounced off quickly due to the complete lack of direction and difficulty of fighting anything stronger than a mudcrab. With the Oblivion Remaster coming out, I decided to go back and try Morrowind again, using OpenMW and some bug fix + texture patches. The first few…

Amazing RPG. Still a major influence for indie and AA studios. Play it on OpenMW for the best experience (the reason my hours look low is because steam doesn't track the use of OpenMW).

Easy to mod while maintaining the spirit of vanilla Morrowind. With OpenMW, it's (maybe) the most stable Bethesda game. It's aged well; worth replaying.

I get that a lot of people have nostalgic feelings for this game. But in my opinion it is just objectively worse than Oblivion or Skyrim. First the good: Story and Atmosphere, oh and spears. Now the bad: Terrible UI. I remember people used to complain about Oblivions and Skyrims UI but oh man, are they incredible compared to this mess. Most quests are just boring fetch or escort quests NPCs lack personality or anything interesting about them. They just stand in place or move about a bit.…
