What players are saying
Counted from the reviewers’ own thumbs up/down on the 115 English Steam reviews we collected, not by the AI. Valve’s all-language rating: Mixed (143 of 218 positive).
Players describe The Fan as a short, photo-based point-and-click horror game where you play as a serial killer. [1][2][3] Many reviewers note the game's realistic and disturbing atmosphere, but criticize its brevity and lack of replay value. [4][5][6] Some players feel the price is too high for the amount of content, recommending it only on sale. [7][8][9]

The Fan is an extremely short and disturbing FMV title (Full Motion Video), and is the first game released by French developer, Ezhaac Studio. Players take on the role of a serial killer, and regardless of its controversial subject matter, the gameplay and story are neither The Fan’s redeeming elements. It is an awfully virulent experience that WILL be distressing to many, especially victims of abuse. Consider this …

Very short click and find game. I played through the game twice. If you see my playtime on record, that is true....i played through this game twice in 0.8 hours. Now getting that out of the way, this game is actually good, and I did very much enjoy playing through this game. Story is actually very good for what is it. I recommend this game if you happen to find this game for 99 cents or so, but it is not worth 6 …

The Fan is a very short point-and-click adventure game that uses photographs to tell its story instead of drawings or FMV. You play the obsessed serial killer, so the subject matter and especially the point of view of the game can make this a bit of a disturbing experience. If you think you can stomach that, I do recommend playing The Fan, but definitely don't buy it for €5,99 as it'll take you not much longer than …

65% of the 115 Steam reviewers we collected recommend The Fan. The complaint that keeps coming up: very short playtime, often under an hour. Deal-breaker or nitpick?

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Sorry - the little content that's there, just isn't good enough "The Fan" is a very short, very basic point & click adventure that uses photos as graphics. Gameplay is extremely simple: You see a photo that shows your current location, which has a number of hotspots. Clicking on those either shows a close-up of the respective object, or lets you turn and/or move around. Your goal is to find 3-4 objects at each location so that you can progress to the next. You play as "The Fan", a serial…

neutral · AI labelView post →I like the concept, the art style is impressive, and the audio is quite good. This game does check all the boxes for a decent point and click adventure. While I do recommend this game to people who enjoy violent type games, it was a bit too much for myself. First Impressions: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cUjPgtAl5nU In this game, you play as (or at least start off as), the guy responsible for the kidnappings. You can creep through your lair and interact with the girl you have tied to a…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →the fan is a short 1st-person fmv thriller mostly without the f, m or v, as it's just pictures except for the short intro, but it uses real photographs, so close enough. as a very naughty boy (possibly called brian) you've kidnapped yet another young lady after months of (let's call it) research. she can't complain though, food and water are available in your underground parisian lair and you took her shoes off, so she has to be comfortable. and if not, she's bound and gagged, so she literally…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Original little morbid indie horror game, where you play as the serial killer. The game takes around 30 minutes to 1 hour to complete on your first playthrough, and then after that you can get through the game in about 15 minutes. There are 3 endings. The game is not that gory or scary, it is not as violent as the screenshots suggest. + The graphics are photorealistic, literally, the game environments are real locations. + The story is simple yet interesting. + Very immersive, the game…

I know that it clearly took a lot of time to stage, prepare, and do the photo shoots in order to make this game as mentally disturbing as it is. positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's a bit sad to see so many negative reviews for this game. It's very short, yes, but you can feel there was a lot of effort put into it. The Fan nails the unsettling atmosphere 100% and it's not often you get to play as a serial killer. It's also well optimized and runs smoothly with no issues, so big kudos to the people who worked on it. I would love some achievements and possibly a few more chapters, but other than that it is pretty solid for such a small team. I honestly enjoyed the…

With an interface that makes navigation easy, and only two usable buttons (left and right click), The Fan will appeal to both basic and advanced gamers alike; though anyone seeking puzzles, be them challenging or not, may wish to look elsewhere. The story is simple, gamers will play as a serial killer who has abducted his…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I liked the game, but since i can only vote with Yes or No i have to choose No with the customer in Mind. This "game" only takes around 45 minutes if you are not rushing it and has no replay value at all. I just can´t recommend it with this price. It´s still around 5 € in sale which still is too much. The value just isn´t there. Most of the time i value a game with € 1 = 1 hour playtime so this game is rughly worth 1 €.

neutral · AI labelView post →I purchased this by mistake (in a sale) , assuming it was a survival horror game. ie that I am playing the person seeking escape from the evil serial killer. So I found my self rather disturbed to be playing the serial killer, hoping he will make a mistake at some point, be caught and the victim rescued. Playing a game where you desperately want to fail, is odd. The game play is very linear and is more like a 'hidden object' game than any thing else. It does not take long to complete the game…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's fun because it looks real and could be real. 10/10 but keep this away strictly from children under 18 and emotionally unstable adults of any age. P.S. Who starred as the Fan Killer ?
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It was honestly better than I thought it would be. All in all, the game starts out with an extremely disturbing atmosphere, you're surrounded by pictures of this girl that you were apparently stalking, implements of torture, padlocked doors with the names of your previous victims and when you head into the back room, you find your latest victim tied up and terrified. The game play consists of you visiting various locations, such as the flat of your victim and her boyfriend, to find items…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game uses actual photos for all scenes which are very well set up, there are many details to explore everywhere and all locations feel very realistic. It is quite intense and has some violent scenes, which might not be everyone's cup of tea, especially because of the art style used. Sadly, the game is very short. So far I've found 2 different endings with some variations for both after less than an hour of playtime. The first time I explored most of the game I think, but after that I knew…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is a game only an indie developer outside of the US could make. I sense there might be controversy in the near future of the lack of morality of playing a serial killer. Some will find the content disturbing because neither in film, television or games are we the viewer used to playing the role of the serial killer himself. In reality, it is graphic, but it is not grotesque, and many R rated movies are significantly more brutal (such as Saw or Hostel series). If you are into story games…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Nice idea but not a good game Good concept on paper, putting photos with lots of love to detail and make them an interactive environment for a hostage thriller story to take place. Sadly though there is not much of a story here to be found despite it being the whole promise of a story focused game. 'Girl gets kidnapped by a guy who secretly admires her' is the only thing this game is offering you storywise. The promised unique twist and choices to made do not (or barely) exist, there is just…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The Fan is interactive horror point & click game made completely with pictures, you get to play as the killer and have to go around to find object while uncovering a gruesome story of kidnapping and murder. Honestly there's not much gameplay per se, it's more about discovering what happens with the victims. If you like a good thriller then that might be the game for you but otherwise don't bother. I'm really on the fence about this game, I still gave it a thumbs up because it's really not a…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Wouldn't recommend to buy it outside of a sale, it's not much content. It is however an unique experience and the photo-"playstyle" is kinda neat. Playing as a stalker/serial killer isn't a too common theme either. I also appreciated the popular culture thrown in here and there, like Rick Astley, Bioshock and Piano Cat among other well recognizable items. There are multiple endings, but I don't really feel like it was interesting enough to pursue them all.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Enjoyed it and got all the endings in not too long. Not really reviewing. Just want to give my thumbs up.

neutral · AI labelView post →I've come to realise that I could improve this game myself vastly, just by adding 5 words to it. Developer Cyril Danon regardless of spending vast amount of energy and time to try and create an atmospheric and somewhat meaningful point and click adventure, has somehow missed that target entirely, instead producing a rather mediocre 'what was the point of all that?' experience. The rather bland story follows the main character, a serial killer known as 'The Fan', nicknamed due to his…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Making a photo-based adventure game isn't entirely original, but it's certainly an underused sub-genre. The Fan pulls it off beautifully. Short and sweet, the game puts you in the shoes of a serial killer dubbed The Fan. As with all serial killers, you have a ritual you follow which (it appears) determines how long your victims will live. The brief five-act story takes place over a three day period during your eighth victim, the lovely Nathalie Rio. I want to point out that the makeup and…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →!!!TRIGGER WARNING!!! This is a ♥♥♥♥♥♥ up game. It introduces you to "The Fan", a stalker and murderer. It opens with a news article and drops you into his stalker lair. I assumed I was a detective at first, solving the murder but no, YOU ARE THE FAN. positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I really liked this game. It's different enough that it stands out. The art (photo's) is really good, the music and setting is very creepy and it doesn't outstay it's welcome. The game wouldn't work if it was any longer. I'm kinda disturbed by the negative reviews based on price. It's up to everyone individually to decide what they want to spend on it and price has no place in a review. Games like these, with no marketing budget and only a couple of ratings really depend on players feedback…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →made no sense. Why he chose this specific girl why is he obsessing over her? why are there rooms in his lair that I cannot go into? Also it made no sense that the game offers you a choice to murder her, but it forgets that the guy is also a rapist. So he murdered her and forgets to rape her? That is not his modus operandi. If you going to make a game of this kind then you need to figure out what you are trying to achieve, seems like the makers of the game, were just trying to make…

Also the not so subtle i wonder if that one gag can get copyright struck Only thing that bothered me was it can get kinda disorienting sometimes with all the turning around and stuff; And sure its pretty short but people that say its TOO short either just went straight for the objective or didnt really care to look at everything, which is fair you can do whatever…
