What players are saying
Counted from the reviewers’ own thumbs up/down on the 68 English Steam reviews we collected, not by the AI. Valve’s all-language rating: Mixed (66 of 109 positive).
Players praise the game's spooky atmosphere and engaging story about a mother searching for her missing daughter. [1][2][3] Some reviewers note that the game has a game-breaking bug that can prevent completion after several hours. [4][5][6] Opinions are mixed on the puzzles and hidden object scenes, with some finding them solid and others frustrating. [7][8][9]

I want to recommend this game because it's good. However, there's a game-breaking bug that hinders you from completing the game. When you open a chest, you're supposed to fix a helmet and pick it up. But if you miss picking up the stone piece next to it (which I didn't realize was needed), you can never open the chest again and you can't progress. If this was at the start of the game I wouldn't be bothered to redo …

Overall, I give this a negative review, however the game has its merits and is playable, so it is a close one. The length and content presented is definetly above average quantity. The story couldn't be dumber, you could pretty much wrap any other around it. The hidden-object-puzzles are okay but need to get used to, sometimes bad translation into german for the objects to find. I did not like absurd adventure …

A mother would do anything to take care of her child, imagine what she'd do if her child got missing. The story is about a mother and her young daughter who's been on a road trip, enjoying their free time, unfortunately, they had a car accident which caused the mother to lose her consciousness when she regains it back, she realized her daughter went missing. She searched for her in the woods, abandoned house with a …

As with many HOG games - I wish there was a "meh" button. It was a bit longer than many hidden object games; and this is a one in the truest sense of the word. I rather liked the rather dopey plot, but it did seem to resolve very abruptly. Some of the minigames were not explained well -and- my biggest complaint is that the map indicating that there are actions available was unreliable and confusing. BTW - there are …

Saving Our Lost Daughter But What Lies in the Fog? In the spirit of Spooky Season’s beginning, it’s the right time to start playing games that are more spooky, creepy, or even horror-related. To start, I’ve decided to check out a hidden object game from my library I have never played before (on my own or for YouTube). Time to walk into The Fog completely blind. A mother and her daughter are driving through nature …

neutral · AI labelView post →I want to recommend it because it is enjoyable and I love the spooky atmosphere of it. Bug the game-breaking bug makes it to where I cannot. After 3 hours of gameplay, you are to find pieces to open a chest. Once you do, you need to repair a helmet inside of it and take it. There's a stone piece inside of it as well that you need...which you aren't made aware that it's even needed until after you get to the next area. But once you take the helmet, you are no longer able to get into the…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →my favorite part of SHf are the puzzles and going through them on Lost in the Fog has been a treat but the final chunk of the game making the puzzles dependent on the ending and not the difficulty feels like such a massive copout to me
negative · AI labelView post →Played through to nearly the end, then encountered the game-breaking bug mentioned in other reviews. It's too bad, because the game was otherwise pretty good, but I had to replay the entire game to finish it. I can't in good conscience recommend a game with such a huge bug that looks like it'll never get fixed. If you are interested in the game, it's good for a hidden object game. Make sure to read up about that bug first though.

Imagine a scenario where you are lending a not super tech savvy (maybe a little gullible) friend or relative your old gaming PC that already has a bunch of games installed and you want to prank them and scare them a bit by secretly modding the game. What mods would you choose? I thought this could make for a fun discussion in the lead up to Halloween. Kind of similar to…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →In a wide field with a lot of competition, this might actually be the worst hidden object game. The plot is nonsense even by HOG standards, and the item placement makes no sense at all. The puzzles are far between and generally bad. Most of the play time is "go to place and use item on thing", which is always bad but here made worse than usual by the lack of fast travel and the irritatingly tight hit boxes on the items. The total nonsense of it all makes it difficult to work out where…

neutral · AI labelView post →This game is SO GLITCHY. I'm no stranger to the occasional messy or slightly busted game, but I wasn't expecting it to be this bad. You have a chance to get stuck everytime you open a puzzle, not to mention the the easily-missed objects you have only one chance to grab or you will soft-lock your game. As I suspect the game is not set to be fixed anytime soon, I will be refunding this.

neutral · AI labelView post →Yay! I finally did it! I beat the game that I had to put down at first because it was too scary... And now, knowing full well that reality is far worse than the gaming world... This game was a breeze. I still liked the game. The creepiness of it. Near the end I got tired though, because it went from a mystery, not knowing what's really going to a military base. The spookiness ended near there as well and at that point it just reminded me of that "War Memorabilia" H.O.G. I played, so I…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I didn't really like this one. One of my biggest frustrations were the HO scenes. Everything is so dark and there's no real way to turn up the brightness. Sometimes it was really hard to find whatever it was you were looking for, and I just resorted to spamming the screen with clicks until I 'found' it. Also, the 'puzzles' or mini-games require no skill whatsoever. Again, you can pretty much just spam the screen with clicks and you will eventually 'solve' the puzzle. The screens are…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I’d probably go with a mixed review if I could. It has some good points. The hidden object scenes were okay. However, I’ll go with a thumbs down because of the flaws. I encountered a glitch near the beginning which caused the same hidden object scene to appear twice. Other people have encountered a game-breaking bug near the end where an object becomes unobtainable once the helmet is repaired. Check the forums for more details. The game has a map which shows locations where progress can be…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is a pretty good HOG. The story is interesting and the graphics are good. It was thankfully missing the types of things that typically detract from HOGs - no ridiculous dialog or poorly-executed human animations. If you mainly play these for the puzzles, you might be disappointed as there didn't seem to be a large amount. However, there were plenty of HO scenes. Overall, I enjoyed this one quite a bit.

neutral · AI labelView post →Alawar has always held second place in terms of the best HOGs, only surpassed by Artifex Mundi (who have since gotten out of the genre). The Fog: Trap for Moths is a good example of why. Let's give it a quick GBU peek. The Good As with most HOGs by the Big Two, this game has a nice music score that blends a bit of stock with a bit of new. The visuals paint a great atmosphere, and there are some nice little features (such as the jewelery box) to make it stand out a bit. The Bad I feel as…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Production-wise it was likely because it was a holdover from the Shibata version of 4 where he was infected with The Fog throughout the whole game and slowly beginning to mutate from it.
neutral · AI labelView post →I love this game, but that being said, the Fog of War mechanic can suck my entire taint; they made it a bit better that you can surprise people you find, but it's still WAY too easy to blunder a unit into getting run the fuck over. Haven't used the rewind more on any other stages than FoW stages.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is a run of the mill hidden object puzzle game where you click various hotspots in each 2D scene to trigger various hidden object puzzles and other puzzle minigames to unravel the plot behind some kind of fog or something. This is an older one and it doesn't have proper widescreen support (you get to choose between pillarbox or stretched). It's not acceptable to charge $10 for a game that doesn't even have widescreen support. Thumbs down. Fans of hidden object games would do well to…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This was just an okay game, good enough to burn a few hours playing. I felt the developers lost interest towards the end and just tossed in the final areas to get it over with. The hidden object scenes were fair and just challenging enough. The map kept me on track, but unfortunately was not completely accurate. One room indicated that something needed to be done but was completely inaccessible (turns out nothing needed to be done there, so it was just a glitch in the map). There was one…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Middle of the road in terms of HOG. If you've played the better ones like House of 1000 Doors, True Fear, Enigmatis, Hope Lake, etc then sure, give this a try.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Older HOG with some "spooky" atmosphere in most scenes, so that was different. There is plenty of useless back and forth and as mentioned the map is not helpful other than to indicate there is nothing left to do in the area you are in. The locations with available action are not labeled so hard to know where you need to back track to. If you enjoy HOGs and try to play them all then give this one a try when it is on sale or bundled. Like many of these lower end HOGS it was not bad just not…

This game features a great story line, beautiful locations and interactions that require thought and purpose, all of which make for a challenging, yet engaging experience. Yesterday's game made me miserable for several hours. Games like that in the 80s or 90s? I'd be inconsolable for weeks. Or in the case of the Fog Bowl, years.

The foggy environments are probably my favorite part, and I enjoyed exploring them while solving puzzles and searching for clues. The visuals and overall mood are probably the strongest parts of the game. Some of the puzzles are enjoyable, although the difficulty can be inconsistent and there is some backtracking.
