It's a very good game but it needs major optimization. When I first started playing the game, my graphics were set to ultra and I was playing at 120 fps, but as I explored more of the map, I had to keep lowering the graphics more and more until I set them to low, and even so, I can no longer play the game because after finishing the Lazarus mission, the game only reaches a maximum of 20 fps. It’s worth noting that I …

This game is like crack cocaine for nerds. You are/have: - playing a robot, no one expects any level of EQ or empathy or mindfulness from you. - all alone, everyone is dead, no interaction required, no meat bags around - lots of stuff to pick up / clean up - no time pressure and barely any "enemies". Update: Ok, some enemies, but you will have the means to deal with them. - Recycler - Boxes to sort things into - …

The last caretaker is a game about a robot well after the end of the world trying to restore humanity. It is a lonely, yet beautiful trek across a flooded world with only your ship and the long dead voices of those in the logs to accompany you. With each step of the journey, each shattered companion you find discarded on the ground, it can quickly start to feel like the journey is hopeless. That even if you succeed, …

This is an enjoyable game that scratches the open world survival craft itch, but I can't recommend in the current early access stage. The Good The graphics and environment look great. Satisfying gameplay loop: scavenge, craft, explore. The OK Interface decisions: single keys are used for multiple, non-complementary actions. For example, left mouse button both fires, grabs, opens, and generally "interacts". If you enter a room and start shooting, then turn towards something grabbable while…

So I really like the game and it feels better than most, unfortunately for me I don't think I will be able to complete it. There are certain areas where you need to make as series of jumps to complete the game. I can get close but after missing a jump 50 times I just cant make it and so I am at a point I am having to stop playing because I can't advance. I am a keyboard/mouse player so maybe a controller could do better but for me it kind of broke the game for me. I didn't give the game a…

This game may just not be for me, but, I just... Really did not like it. The demo felt deceptively good, which I don't like to say because the devs seem like honest folks. It just feels like it has an identity crisis, it doesn't know what it wants to be. You play the demo and think... "Oh, this will be some mix of Satisfactory and Subnautica. You are restricted to a limited area in which you can automate, but that area can move! So you travel around the world hooking up to various resource…

The motion sickness from head bobbing is so extreme I cannot play. I have asked for accessibility options for months but the developers are prioritizing content. Until this game has an option to turn off the motion sickness trigger, this review will be negative. This is from the discord, in November of 2025: "there are plans to resolve this and add more accessibility options and tweaks, stay with us, we want everyone to be able to enjoy TLC ❤️" I think 6 months is enough time.

Very cool concept, very rough execution. I played the demo and was hooked. I really enjoy the gameplay and the feeling of exploration and maintaining all of your systems. The attention to detail is spectacular. I was genuinely sad when the demo ended and couldnt wait for the early access release. However... Unreal Engine 5 claims another victim with comically bad performance. R9 5950x + RTX 3080 should not be running at 30-50 fps on low at 1080p. I have tried multiple fixes suggested in the…

It is with a heavy heart that I leave a negative review. The game started off amazing, with the promise of exploring and repairing a broken, flooded world and discovering deep lore while managing logistics and bringing systems back to life. And for a time the game was exactly that, despite the engines lag and bugs. The devs took note of player complaints and addressed problems, and even added content to support emergent player styles like adding a placeable step when players used wall mounted…

Pros: - The game looks great. - Gameplay loop is slow-paced & fun, resembling The Long Dark. - The atmosphere is relaxed 98% of the time, not rising to the levels of spookiness in Subnautica. - The game is largely intuitive. (It would be nice if some of the buildings told you how much power they need.) Cons: - At the time of writing this, (Nov-2025), the available content is pretty shallow. You can knock out the main quests in 25 hours... most of which is spent creating crafting materials.…

If only. If ONLY. If only the devs would fix the bugs, this would be a GREAT game. As it is, I'm done playing. This is a game of connections. You need power, you need fuel, and sometimes gas and water, all of which you must use cables and cable extenders to run to where you need it. So, by mid- to late-game, you have power and fuel cables everywhere. And therein lies this game's HUGE elephant in the room: every time you leave an area, those connections BREAK. They are not durable. So,…

Another one of those moments where I wish Steam had a "Neutral" review option. TL;DR is I'll give this one a tentative yes in its current state because I love the worldbuilding, the aesthetics and the gameplay loop itself is very solid, but it's also probably a decent idea to wait a bit to see what the devs end up cooking up here. I would say if you're unsure, play the demo, as-is currently it's a very accurate reflection of what you'll be doing for most of the game *after* the demo. If you…

I'm so torn on how to rate this. I enjoy this game so much but the fact that my 5600x + 3080 runs like dog water is such a let down. Late game fps is like 40-50fps and sometimes dipping to 30fps on 1440p with DLSS performance. Good game, extremely poor optimization. I'm left feeling more disapointed than I am satisfied. Do your self a favor and play this later when it's more optimized.

Would I recommend the game? Yes and no. After 35 hours of playtime, I can say that I like the game, I like the story/setting, the graphics, the world ... and I would like to continue playing it, but... Since I've been traveling with the ship and have built a lot of boxes, machines, pipes, cables, and cable extensions on the ship, errors have been piling up. The game has been out for 36 hours and I have 16 hours of gameplay already which probably means I have too much free time on my hands. It also means that I'm having an insane amount of fun scrapping and powering up bases. I'm sure there's a story line here. I've heard pieces of it... but I'm more obsessed with wiring things at the moment. This is the type of game I get lost in. It's zen. Clear out some weird creatures. The Last Caretaker is a visually impressive survival experience with a strong atmosphere. The graphics are genuinely stunning, and the core gameplay loop scratches that classic survival itch nicely. Exploring, gathering, and managing resources feels solid, and the story—when you do come across it—adds a layer of intrigue and mystery to the world. However, performance is a clear weak point right now. The game seems heavily CPU-bound, and it runs hot. It feels like it may be using AVX…

One of the best games I played in a long time. Some balancing issues are to be expected in Early Access (like the Large Electricity Generator only producing 30 kW but consuming more Petrol than the Distillation Tower puts out which consumes 60 kW for example). In my 40 hours of playtime I had only two crashes so far. The game loop is fun and addictive. Exploration is great and rewarding. I cannot recommend this game at the moment. For a game that takes place on the water, the liquid physics related bugs are just insane. I suggest you wait until the developer gets these worked out before you beta test this game for them. The concept is awesome, and I can see this being an incredible title. Honestly I enjoy the mechanics, I enjoy being able to scrap pretty much everything, it speaks to my Loot Goblin Mode, I like the Ship and sailing around on it. So why am I Not Recommending it? Three things: - The Price, for Early Access, this is a weird price for the amount of content it has. Creates expectations (Or lack thereof) as soon as that price tag comes up. -…

Spec requirements are deceptive, 3080 + 5950X so aging but well above recommended but with DLSS and low settings, benchmark said 90 fps average but playing the game had frequent stutters under 40 and barely averaging 60, and this is with everything low as well. Figuring out how things work and unlocking the tech tree to get your boat filled out and equipped for everything feels super chaotic...I feel like its supposed to be that way. The moment-to-moment gameplay feels a lot like Subnautica, and I feel TLC isn't doing enough to push the genre forward. As a big fan of survival craft with a story/purpose, this game looks to be great. Never thought feeding stuff into a recycler could be so satisfying. ETA: Controller support (including native Dualsense) is appreciated and mostly good. The world looks hand crafted and NOT procedural, which I prefer; others may not.

The Last Caretaker is a highly creative game by a small, indie studio in early access. The general premise is you're a robot known as a 'caretaker', created by mankind as they completed an exodus from a planet headed to catostrophe and into space as the last land is swallowed up by the sea. You as the last caretaker robot in existence, have to work out how to get your mobile base, a boat, out of the starting location, and then find the human seeds and take them back to the central hub called…

Mixed of course with heavy storms and stopping to kill some sharks for those rare mats! I love that my base is basically an old fishing trawler, not fancy, not perfect, but homey and reliable. I love this game and im excited to see the finished product. Make the worms bigger and harder to kill but less of them and not constant as soon as the sun goes down. Those worms are very annoying and have a negative effect on the playability for me

OK.. So after 6 hours of playing this. I can say, the idea behind this game is awesome... But I do have a few comments 1. The Weight management / Carry Management needs an overhaul. I was getting a bit sick of having to create boxes to store everything. I love the that you can craft using close stored materials (one thing that a lot of games lack without mods) but having to constantly run back and forth with materials because you cant carry them is annoying. 2. This game deffo needs some…

EDIT 2025.11.15: The most recent update/bug fixes addressed a lot of my UI and usability issues, that section has been removed. I'm now confident the devs will keep improving the game and address issues people bring up. TL;DR - Incredible atmosphere, great graphics and sound design, great weather effects and a very cool game loop. Falling in the ocean is legitimately terrifying, I don't know what lurks below but I don't want to find out. The storms sound and FEEL like a storm, probably the…

Game itself is enjoyable and chill, i enjoyed the demo and i enjoyed 1.5 hours of the "full" game. Though, sadly i got struck by a game breaking bug after 1.5 hour, i built the Bolt Gun and fired a shot and it totally broke everything. FPS went crazy and lagging up my entire computer, i had no option but to ALT F4, which leads to the terrible autosave function... You are ment to go to a station to save your progress, which in theory is fine and i really had no issues with that at all. But once…

I have 60ish hours in this early access game and while I didn't visit *every* location, I think I probably visited most of them. If you like exploration, and cruising around in a boat discovering new stuff and also being an engineer, then you will probably enjoy the gameplay. Danger is minimal, and once you have unlocked the flamethrower, pretty much negligible, so if you're looking for a tense action game this isn't it. Maybe that will change once it's out of early access. I enjoyed the game…

The Last Caretaker is a game I didn't know I was needing. Amazing story & world. Crafting, survival, exploration. All the things that tickle the best parts of my brain. 36 hours in and still haven't even scratched the surface. I did get invited to help test so I received a free copy. Would have bought it anyway

I hate writing this review as I thought whole heartedly this would be the best game of the year. Given the 4 1/2 updates the game has gotten though... I have lost faith. The demo for this game painted quite a picture and a direction, even upon release I felt driven and excited. As the updates have come out, I feel this game has strayed further and further from the original concept, saving humanity. Updates have been filled with mini games, jet skis, gyrocopters, and many other useless…

In short: - Interesting concept - Familiar yet somewhat fresh gameplay loop - Looks great - Sounds great - There's crafting from storage, but the range is surprisingly low for the amount of boxes you'll end up with over time. - Performance is a bit weird, more on that later - Combat is legitimately horrible Okay so, Perf: Performance is weird since the game runs about the same on low and high details (RTX 3070). With textures set to High, setting anything else higher than low gave me a VRAM…

I would really love to recommend this game because when it was working, it was incredibly fun to play. Its an awesome idea and the concept suits my interests like a glove. But the performance is terrible. Like truly terrible. I took a long break because it was simply not playable and tried again today only to find out it still is. I hope this major issue gets fixed because i really want to play and enjoy this game.

This looks like it has a LOT of potential to be a real contender with Subnautica. No, it's not underwater, but this game hits the right crafting focused survival game, without the annoying elements of "survival". As a robot, you don't need food, water, or even to breath. You just need power, which is about the only "survival" mechanic. Looking forward to seeing what is in store for this game towards its 1.0 launch!

For some reason I can't stop playing. I have to recycle everything, No junk left behind! Great single player game, nice and chill with some cool exploration and hidden spots. It gives a sense of accomplishment when you get things working or clean up an area that was full of junk.

I think this is a cool game however as of right now performance is lacking even when setting everything low in settings. The game well yes playable at 30 to 50 fps is still not the best for experiancing the game and all that it offers, so thats my take so far.
