I bought this game on the interesting premise it presents, yet sadly it doesn't seem to do much with that you would expect. Throughout the game you are forced to make assumptions about why things are happening, but don't get any closure on any of it as when you start to think critically so much doesn't seem to make sense or is just a missed opportunity. While I was playing I came up with one word that I felt best …

Crummy story, obnoxious main character, and the most atrocious difficulty spikes you'll ever see in a narrative game. Doing two hacking minigames on a timer while avoiding enemies that one-shot you if they see you was so infuriating I wanted to uninstall. The stealth in general is terrible on top of being horribly tedious. The endings are also all underwhelming. The voice acting is good despite the script being …

This game is a fascinating tongue-in-cheek look at what a dystopian future late-stage capitalism holds. This is especially poignant when the news is filled with stories of mass layoffs amid soaring corporate profits. This game was basically a visual novel with some tedious flappy bird mini games. Interesting story, but calling it a game is a bit a of stretch. Having said that, the parts where you would process the packages was the most enjoyable part of the experience. Worth a look for ten dollars or less.

63% of the 49 Steam reviewers we collected recommend The Last Worker. The complaint that keeps coming up: tedious flappy bird minigames. Deal-breaker or nitpick?

Critics, per Wikipedia

On Metacritic, the PC and PlayStation 5 versions received mixed reviews, and the Xbox Series X/S version received positive reviews. Rock Paper Shotgun felt the tasks meant to be rote were more compelling than the later puzzles involving stealth and sabotage. Though they praised McMahon's art, they said the satire "lays its ideas on far too thick". Though they said it explained its jokes too often and lacked the poignancy of other recent satirical games, PC Gamer called it "a breezy, charming caper with a broad anti-corporate theme". The Guardian and Slant Magazine were more negative; they felt the satire was superficial and ignored real-world concerns about sweat shops in favor of what…

F*ck Jeff Bezos. I haven't finished the game yet, but I wishlisted this months back when I first saw a preview of it online and I must say it certainly does not disappoint - having worked for the real life "Jungle" at one point, yes. This is their dream as well as our dystopian nightmare.

The advertising for this game made me interested. I was here for the anti-establishment, anti-woke, pro-human messaging the advertising put front and center. It's a type of game that emphasizes the story, and it is clearly attempting to tackle real-world contemporary and near-future issues. This game could have been pro-human, anti-automation, and anti-monopoly while remaining relatively a-political. They have chosen to tackle real-world social and political issues, so it is fair to evaluate…

The game isn't bad but I desperately hate the hacking minigame. It's difficult to control with a mouse and takes too long to complete within the time constraints provided. When I reached to a point where it wanted me to hack twice, one after the other in within a single hacking time limit I closed the game to come back to later. It turns out the game only saves at the beginning of chapters. I would have to go through 20 minutes of stealth mission to get back to a terrible hacking minigame I…

I admire Death Stranding but I’m not sure why making deliveries is being singled out as some crazy out of the box idea. It is one of the oldest gaming tropes. Paperboy did it, Crazy Taxi made it extra fun and we made a game called The Last Worker that was all about dispatching packages, too.

A short game, for sure, but an interesting one with a clear message which, while a bit clumsy on occasion, told the story it wanted to tell and gave you the choice so play the part you wanted. I really thought it was going to try and both-sides the situation - attempt to say the idea of revolution is as bad as the Capitalist mode of working forever - but it did present a third option or doing what you feel is right and escaping the paths put forward. Was it perfect? not entirely. It did…

Love this game! The story was great overall, although the endings were a bit deceiving. Voice acting is amazing too. This game really needs a free play mode though. Also, I encountered a really annoying bug right after we get the hacking tool: When the container door opens, weird collisions make it really hard to make it through the door. Apart from that, the game was really fun.

You play as a futuristic amazon worker, and you are a slave of the system. "I'm 12 and this is deep." Theres a great potential to this game, but every aspect just sucks. Movement is buggy, rebinded buttonlayouts dont work, you need to reload saves in order to interact with something properly, the gameplay is boring and flat. Enemy Ai is buggy. I played the first 2 hours so far and it's been brilliant. The humor combined with the "is this the future we are all heading towards" feeling make it a great experience. Some of the controls would probably work better in VR, but nothing terrible really. No crashes or frame drops at all. As a plus, we get to listen to Jason Isaacs cursing and rambling in his native accent, which is the cherry on top!

Game was meant to be played in VR. Not everyone has that. Much of the needed information was in a tiny hud below my FOV. Which makes the game much more difficult than it needs to be. Controls are sluggish and cumbersome. There should be an option to remap them. Was looking forward to this game for some time but it turned out being nothing like I expected.

Effective use of VR to create an atmosphere that feels lonely, desperate and grim. The world-building leans on the familiar, collective consciousness of Amazon warehouses...of monotony...of following instructions...of idolizing figureheads that represent something we want to believe (btw, saw that ending coming a mile away). There's too much motivation to apply the adjective of “cynical”; not enough humour to say it is “sardonic” but there's an uncomfortable truth being expressed.

It was surprisingly enjoying, nice story, good characters, good voice actors. Played it in VR which added a lot I think. Game mechanics aren't very deep, but the story got me.

Gameplay loop is decently engaging, slowly adding more things to look for, the story is also interesting and a cool commentary on consumerism, capitalism and corporate greed

Do you have a Playdate? I made a game for it with a game dev hero. It's a crank-powered spinoff of my console/VR game The Last Worker (art directed by Mick McMahon) and it's voiced by Jason Isaacs. news.play.date/news/skew/

Ahh Illbleed, like you said, full send committing to the bit in a way that few do nowadays. Very weird tangential thing - 2 years ago released a game called 'The Last Worker', written and directed by Jörg Tittel who did Illbleed marketing (and Jorg was based on). Theres a Zodick doll in TLW 👏

I wrote and directed The Last Worker, a game (for VR, consoles and PC) about the last human worker at the world’s largest fulfilment centre, Jüngle FC-1. Would love to be included!

    72. Wild 9 - 7+2=9 and that made me think of Shiny’s PS1 game which made awesome use of the then newly introduced analogue sticks. You get to control a tractor beam and smash enemies all over the place. A big inspiration for one of the core mechanics behind my game The Last Worker.

Tomorrow's a Fifth Saturday, so it's time for a game outside my normal genre! I'm thinking this time I'm going to play "The Last Worker", a first-person puzzle-ish game about the last human worker in a warehouse that has become increasingly populated by robots. Sound good?
