What players are saying
Counted from the reviewers’ own thumbs up/down on the 41 English Steam reviews we collected, not by the AI. Valve’s all-language rating: Mostly Positive (44 of 59 positive).
Many players praise the game's nostalgic atmosphere and its homage to classic survival horror titles like Alone in the Dark. [1][2][3] Some reviewers note that the game suffers from clunky controls, frustrating combat, and illogical puzzles. [4][5][6]

I started off really liking this. The art, sound and music is all really good. It`s got a great style even with some of the wobbly voice acting. The gameplay though has unfortunately inherited a lot of the worst traits from it`s survival horror puzzler predecessors. Difficulty, illogical puzzles, awkward controls, bad combat, respawning enemies and one hit deaths etc. The puzzles start off logically enough but get …

The Padre is a 3D horror point&click adventure with heavy emphasis on spooky atmosphere and a lot of neat references to other works, especially to older horror games like Alone in the Dark or Resident Evil. You know how many indie "horror" games are ♥♥♥♥? Well, The Padre has none of those annoying things - there are no pitch-black rooms, no ♥♥♥♥♥♥ flashlights that are constantly running out of batteries, no cheap …

The Padre can best be described as Alone In The Dark 1 meets Van Helsing (the book, not the movie/game) with MineCraft (aka voxel) graphics. I HIGHLY recommend you play one or all of the first 3 Alone In The Dark games first. If you like them then you'll love The Padre. If not, then stay away as this game is not for you. The atmosphere nails that mid-90's survival horror feeling perfectly, though enemies do respawn …

This is an old school point and click adventure game fused with classic survival horror (Alone in the Dark 1 / Resident Evil 1). I highly recommend this to anyone who enjoyed AitD 1 back in the day, because this game is pretty much a love letter to that game. The voice acting is so/so but the rest of the game more than makes up for it.

A big recommend! Better than I thought it would be so far. Pros: Great creepy atmosphere Excellent main character with a cool voice that grows on you Good use of the camera by the player Suprising humorous elements and deep references Both a true heir to Alone In The Dark and Lovecraftian Elements Cons: Still in Early Release (seems well polished from what I've seen) No handholding puzzle answers, could make game …

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Horror doesn't have to be realistic to be good, in fact the best horror titles on the top of many people's lists remain retro greats like Resident Evil 1-3 or Alone in the Dark. Maybe it's the gritty and more dirty and dreary aspect of the low-poly visuals from the PSX and early PC era that is so often romanticized by horror fans, or just the changing of times and the quality of storytelling that changes with it. The Padre is a survival horror title that more than embraces the idea that…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The true strength of the indie gaming scene is the power to take risks. Major releases from major publishers tend to chart along the same course in terms of themes and mechanics, but indies can do whatever they want to produce the game of their dreams. The Padre, for example, combines classic Alone in the Dark-style adventuring with some absolutely goofy humor and an incredibly unique art style. The result is a game you won’t see the likes of anywhere else, and despite the drawbacks of its…

LOL All jokes aside you'll have hours of fun playing this game. I hope you enjoy this game as much as I do!

neutral · AI labelView post →This is the sort of game where you navigate a creepy mansion mainly solving puzzles along the way with the occasional zombie/demon thing to bash over the head. The general story is that your old mentor went missing, so you go and try to locate him in an old spooky mansion. While doing this you encounter various creatures/haunted things, and find information about people who lived there previously who were doing dubious things. It's a short game, so if you have a free afternoon or two I would…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This games is a love letter to Alone In The Dark 1. But more than that, anyone who grew up playing and loving pc gaming in the 90s I believe will enjoy this game. It's hard to explain but everything about this game makes me feel like I'm a teenager again playing an adventure puzzle game on the old PC. For anyone who grew up in the 90s and had the experience of Gone Home reminding you what it was like to be a teenager, this game strangely is as effective in reminding me how I used to feel…

Me: You know rayon was developed to mimic silk and technically not a synthetic fiber. (Goes on to describe how viscose is made from cellulose) Hubby: cool This is why we work. 🧶
neutral · AI labelView post →This game is the definition of a hidden gem. I loved this game, and it is very well done. It is styled like the original Alone in the Dark games, and is really enjoyable. There are some challenges, and there is a bit of trial and error causing your death. Though I feel most deaths were my own fault, some do feel to be due to the controls, but it is to be expected, as this is a point and click game. Overall I never had any major issues. This game really is worth it, and I only wish it was better…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I can't recommend this. Which is unfortunate as it has a lot going for it. I liked the art style, and there were a few decent puzzles rooted in amongst the bonkers ones. Onto the negatives. For one, the combat is horrendous. It is near impossible to aim as you have to maintain the mouse over the enemies to focus aim but as soon as your mouse moves off them for a split second you lose all accrued aim focus entirely. And it's impossible to keep the aim on them when the enemy is shambling at…

Gameplay of this game is simple, but in the same time interesting. The game makes you not only walk and shoot, but at times strain your brains! Game is wonderful. God bless your souls!! 🙏🙏🙏
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →the Padre is a wonderful game that really did have me spooked at parts. the game itself doesn't have a realistic feel to it, but the way some of the characters move copiled with the tone of the music really make it a scary/enjoyable experiance. One specific thing I truely enjoy with The Padre is the extensive amount of easter eggs in the game, some harder to spot than others. I would highly recommend The Padre to anyone who is interested in a horror game, as well as anyone who is just…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Seems like they knew the audience they were aiming for, and they hit it. I would suggest some erie accordian music, or maybe save that for the sequel.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The Padre is a decent horror/puzzle game, with solid voice acting, and a refreshing return to gothic horror themes, which is not commonly seen in most modern horror games. However it does currently suffer from occasionally low quality cutscenes, especially early on in the game, and an odd mobile-like design for the UI, as well as an over-reliance on third-party references and easter eggs, in place of a stronger focus on its own original story. Given its status as an early access game, it is…

Another great day in the high desert 🌵 Mom is doing great and we’re gonna watch the Padre game together this afternoon. It’s Friday Pizza night at our house. I hope you have something fun planned for the weekend. Enjoy! 😊
neutral · AI labelView post →The Padre is a handheld (Nintendo Switch)/console game that's also been put on Steam as a bit of an afterthought, as it's very much designed for the handheld/console gaming audience. It's a 3D rendered screen tapping horror puzzle game. The idea is you tap your finger on your Switch touchscreen to investigate various things and uncover a horror mystery from a priest who doomed you to some fear or whatever. It's hard to get into because the visual presentation is so bad and the clunky console…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →FORGIVE ME FATHER, FOR I HAVE SINNED, I PLAYED THE PADRE! Okay, maybe it's not as bad as all that, but this is one of my few negative reviews. I feel bad that I'm about to bash this game, considering it's an indie developer and from what I gather, is their first attempt, but to be frank, I was so frustrated by this game, I needed to say something. Let's get the good things out of the way. Great art and design. I love the atmosphere, and what I could follow of the story. I love the concept…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is a masterpiece, that voice... He looks happy.. I can't see any bible.. ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ This is an original It's a proper game too, i think it is unity but you can see the high quality rendering type ♥♥♥♥. You can see the light glisten off enemies backs as they swing and miss at you With like proper shadows and ambient occlusion and great map design. I was expecting it to have old graphics but it has GOOD graphics. That 2d block model doll item looked sick i was taking screenshots of it.…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The Padre it's an interesting and original game to remember old games like Alone In The Dark. Graphics and sound are in the line with those titles, but with a more "minecraft" flavour.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Great, artistic old school game ! Alone in the Dark feelings.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I streamed this game for a few hours this past week and and I found that this game provides me with nostolgia from games like the early Resident Evil games as well as some comedic elements from games like Grim Fandango. During my few hours of playing I found that I had little to no problem figuring out what it was that I needed to do. This game is built well in the sense that it's very linear; I don't remember having to go back to the early parts of the mansion very much, but when I did it…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →My feelings about The Padre are mixed but kinda leaning towards the positive side. I really love the graphics style, the atmosphere, and the music. However, The Padre plays more like an old point and click adventure game as opposed to survival horror one. The majority of the focus is on puzzle solving and while a good portion of the puzzles are logical and quick to figure out, whenever you come across one that is too cryptic, you're basically stuck. All your progress is halted until you…

neutral · AI labelView post →Fucking maga are morons they love her and think she s great. but they say they re patriots but how could u even let her breath our air after what she did @ the Padre s Reds game to th National Anthem ! Fucking Garbage
neutral · AI labelView post →Pretty good game with great production values that would deserve more popularity (and probably more marketing). A very good hommage to Alone in the Dark (the original game). Some of the puzzles can be annoying and there are a few cheap deaths but globally it's exceptionally solid for an indie game. The voice acting is hilarious in a good way. (follow my curator page [url=https://store.steampowered.com/curator/33882793/]GenXPlayers for more retro and indie reviews)

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The Padre is a unique point and click horror adventure. I've been waiting for it for a while and I'm certainly not disappointed. It's weird, it's funny, it's creepy and Padre is such a fantastic character. I'm not usually into point and click games but this one is so much fun, the story is interesting while not being overbearing, the puzzles are challenging, the graphics are lovely. An excellent game and it's still in Early Access. I highly recommend. Part 1 of my lets play if anyone is…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I really like how well the art, gameplay and story is put together. The scenes are amazing and the atmosphere is spooky, it feels like something bad happened in that mansion, can't wait to find out what. The puzzles can be hard but i really enjoyed solving them. This is more than just an early access :)

neutral · AI labelView post →Very glitchy with poor controls. Had to restart several times because of the character getting stuck. The combat is extremely clunky, it would be better with combat completely removed and just being a walking simulator.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →We just went to the Monday game. Arrived Friday and were tourist for a couple of days. It was a good vibe. The Padre fans talked very well of the Cubs and were happy they took 2 of 3 from rhe Dodgers. I would have liked the "Ash Wednesday " one also. Miss you too young lady. Hope all is good!!
neutral · AI labelView post →This game epitomizes a hidden gem in the gaming world. I thoroughly enjoyed it, as it is exceptionally crafted. Its design pays homage to the original Alone in the Dark titles, making it a truly enjoyable experience. While there are several challenges and moments of trial and error that may lead to your character's demise, I believe most of my failures were due to my own decisions. Some deaths can be attributed to the controls, which is understandable given that this is a point-and-click game.…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Awful K&M controls, clunky movement and interactions, not at all obvious solutions, I had to look up a walktrough to progress. Also apparently there's a permadeath system, you lose all progress when you die too many times. Also also there's an unkillable enemy that once aggros it blocks your way indefinitely, refuses to move, locks all the doors and instakills you if you touch it so that's nice. And no, I don't have 0.1 hours on this game, I got 1.5hrs, it's just Steam being stupid.

neutral · AI labelView post →The Padre, developed by Shotgun with Glitters and published by Feardemic, is a survival-horror adventure that blends retro design sensibilities with a distinctive voxel-based aesthetic and dark humor. Positioned as a modern homage to classic survival horror titles, the game combines exploration, puzzle-solving, and deliberate combat pacing within a compact but atmospheric setting. Its identity is shaped as much by its stylized visuals and sarcastic protagonist as by its commitment to old-school…
