What players are saying
Counted from the reviewers’ own thumbs up/down on the 56 English Steam reviews we collected, not by the AI. Valve’s all-language rating: Mostly Positive (77 of 108 positive).
Players find the game short and easy, often finishing in under three hours. [1][2][3][4] The voice acting is widely criticized as inconsistent, with poor performances for most characters. [5][1][6][7] The story and setting receive mixed reactions, with some praising the colonial Africa theme and others finding it weak or poorly executed. [8][9][10][11]

Short version: 32% This hidden object game had a great premise with the plot about a priest’s haunted niece and the colonial African setting, but it is just too tedious to enjoy. Long version: The Saint: Abyss of Despair manages to present one of the oldest hidden object clichés in an interesting new way: we play as a former soldier and priest, visiting a cousin in colonial Africa to save his little daughter who was …

Very short HO game that can be beaten in an hour and a half to two hours without hints, the only reason I've got more playtime than that is idling for cards. Pros: - Steam Achievements and trading Cards - Low Price Cons: - Too few Hidden-Object puzzles. I think there were like 6 actual HO puzzles - No fast travel, but honestly this has the smallest map I've ever seen in a HO game - Poor instructions on …

I feel like they ran out of money for this game. Towards the end their are 4 puzzles that are exactly the same they only changed the face on the coin. The exact same puzzle. When you get to the end of the game your treated to a black screen with your person just reading some text about what happened. Lack of money. The puzzles are mostly terrible. Some of them have no room to move the pieces around. The voice acting …

Colonial Africa setting is really good. It feels exotic and original. The game is older but the story is above average because you can really feel flow of the tale. There are some strange moments connected with changing of the place and inconsistendy but it fits the story. (Is it reality or not?) Minigames are too easy but made quite good. To my surprise HOS are funny despite the fact they are relatively easy and I …

Barely recommended - This is a pretty mediocre hidden object game. The story is set in Africa. The main character is Jonathan, a former priest that has been summoned by his friend Michael to investigate whether Michael's daughter Jenny is possessed. The basic story is an interesting premise but the execution is weak. The voice acting for the narrator is OK, but it varies from bad to terrible for most of the other …

63% of the 56 Steam reviewers we collected recommend The Saint: Abyss of Despair. The complaint that keeps coming up: the game is very short, often under two hours. Deal-breaker or nitpick?

neutral · AI labelView post →It's an average HOG, which is very short ~2,5h. Beautiful graphics, great setting but a whacky story, that is in a silly way complicated - why does the main character have to be a war veteran that has touched some book during a battle and became religious but then became an exorcist - I don't know when it doesn't affect the story and gameplay. There are plenty of minigames which are easy. Achievements are buggy, making the game tedious to play. The price is low. I wish I could give this game a…

neutral · AI labelView post →This rough around the edges supernatural mystery, point and click come hidden object game is a mediocre affair at best. Graphics appear fixed at 1024 x 768 which on a 1080p, 24" monitor results in slightly blury and washed out image but should be bearable to those of us with a receeding hairline. The story is ok, how it is conveyed however makes it entirely forgettable and lacking in atmosphere or suspense. While there is voice acting present it is best described as amauerish and in more than…

neutral · AI labelView post →a very short and very easy HOG with a mediocre voice acting. pros. ok story suitable sound tracks ok artwork easy achievements? cons. very easy very short (1 hour and 50 minutes for the main story) no bonus chapter the voice acting is hit and miss. other than the main protagonist all other characters have bad voice acting or and some can barely hear them i barely recommend this as it is very short and very easy. 4/10 for the game +1 for the cards =5/10
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Seems to have been made as propaganda for apartheid, religion and belief in the super natural by some looney white supremacists in the 1980s. Terrible voice acting by a Roger Moore impersonator who sounds like a lump of wood, in fact thinking about it it could be Roger Moore as he is a lump of wood. 2 out of ten lumps of Roger Moore.

neutral · AI labelView post →A just barely acceptable hidden object game and that is only because unlike a lot of other people I luckily didn't encounter any bugs and all achievements unlocked correctly. However the story of it is just plain weird in my option. Works fine with Proton (7.0-4).
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Only recommended for die hard HOG fans or if you are interested in the story. It's an old game. The graphics aren't the nicest to look at, but there is voice acting. Also it is short, even on expert mode.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The Saint: Abyss of Despair is a very short HOG. It has an okay-ish story, decent visuals and nice sounds. It's not horrible, but it isn't that great either. I'd give it a 5/10 so kind of meh
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →In a nutshell: On the whole, not terrible. I'm not sorry I played it, if that tells you anything. If you can deal with an obtuse storyline/script and spotty VOs (some good, some godawful), the HOGs and art are quite good. Puzzles are varied, but easy and hit and miss with quality. Decent enough as a ~3 hour time waster, or to grab a few extra achievements. The Long Version: Not gonna lie: parts of this game are pretty bad. But it's also not a total wash either. I went in expecting a complete…
