I'm wondering what Hegel would say of the digital, as an extension of spirit. In my mind, this is what the digital looks like. From the kitsch film, 'The Thirteenth Floor' (1999).

It was later adapted into the 1999 movie The Thirteenth Floor. World on a Wire is a very German Fassbinder 70’s production, realistic noir, and kinda dreamlike in its structure.

I also cover the original novel and Fassbinder's TV version, World On A Wire. cunningcatvincent.com/weaponizer/w...
neutral · AI labelView post →The Thirteenth Floor - I thought the movie was kinda slow with it's moments until it tied together at the end and did something semi interesting with the concept.

neutral · AI labelView post →Watching The Thirteenth Floor. There's a scene with a character watching a bunch of TVs at once, sounds overlapping. Me: "Wait... I know that voice." Can confirm via Tony Schiavone voice that Vincent D'Onofrio watches WCW in this movie.
neutral · AI labelView post →Yes. I think so. It just takes an exponential amount of energy and/or time. At some point it will stop due to energy limitations. Or will be stopped because computation time approaches infinity, even if all energy in the universe is available. Also, now I think about the movie "The Thirteenth Floor".

positive · AI labelView post →I still haven’t watched The Thirteenth Floor, but yeah, that SF neo-noir period starting in the late 90s is one of my favorite movie eras.

neutral · AI labelView post →I feel like Dark City stumbles at the finish line by trying to have an action movie climax, but it’s a great film otherwise. I’m more partial to The Thirteenth Floor (1999), which holds more faithfully to the “sci-fi noir mystery” premise, though that’s probably the reason audiences rejected it.
positive · AI labelView post →The Thirteenth Floor. The other movie from 1999 about virtual reality. To discover the truth, go to a place you would never go.
neutral · AI labelView post →I was crossing over from French to German stuff last week, but I'll start with the unrelated before getting to Germany. - [Z for Zachariah](https://www.themoviedb.org/movie/193687-z-for-zachariah) (2015): the plot is not that of book by the same name but rather seems an update on [The World, the Flesh and the Devil](https://www.themoviedb.org/movie/4928-the-world-the-flesh-and-the-devil), which was too cautious about race issues. In a way, this fixes that, but there's a (spoiler) detail…

positive · AI labelView post →He's arguably the brightest star in The Thirteenth Floor (sorry Bierko), and I'd also recommend The Player, Strange Days, Steal This Movie.

neutral · AI labelView post →Gran Turismo album is a personal favorite. Bring on the haters. Their song Erase and Rewind plays over the credits of this 1999 movie The Thirteenth Floor (peak 90’s movie - Gretchen Moll hahaha) and kicks ass. Someone had a good sense of humor with that choice given the plot.
positive · AI labelView post →I love the entire "2001" series, and I've even watched the "2010" movie. I understand where your opinions are coming from and I will not judge you for them; but I personally disagree. Then again, I'm also someone who genuinely enjoys watching Citizen Kane, so I might just have a skewed perspective. Mind you, I also enjoy the 1995 Johnny Mnemonic movie and have watched Overdrawn at the Memory Bank without MST3K - so I'm all over in terms of sci-fi. Here's my big hot take lately: of the "virtual…

neutral · AI labelView post →To give you another opinion. I think it's a better movie and a better adaption of Simulacron-3 than The Thirteenth Floor. The pacing is quite slow, yes. But if you're fine with the pacing of 2001: A Space Odyssey, this should be fine too. The effects are decent for a TV-Production in that time. The camera work is really good. (And imdb, letterboxd and rotten tomatos is with me in this opinion, so I'm with them 😁)

neutral · AI labelView post →> In 2000, The Thirteenth Floor was nominated for the Saturn Award for Best Science Fiction Film but lost to The Matrix. Yeah that's a pretty good sell. I'll check it out.

neutral · AI labelView post →Finished Simulacron-3. I re-watched The Thirteenth Floor recently. It's a decent sci-fi flick, but it was completely overshadowed by The Matrix on release. Interestingly, both movies draw inspiration from Simulacron-3. The Matrix is a completely different plot, of course, but The Thirteenth Floor primarily follows the book. Without giving too much away, the book centers around a virtual world populated by AI. The purpose of the simulation is to test potential marketing campaigns. The AI…

neutral · AI labelView post →This translates to "World on a Wire." In English the title is "Simulacron-3", which has been adapted as the movie "The Thirteenth Floor" and as a German TV series.
neutral · AI labelView post →Oops, missed it! Always grateful for a deep dive on one of my absolute faves. Was planning a series on this, Matrix, Being John Malkovich, The Truman Show, The Thirteenth Floor (the best VR film of that time, yes over Matrix): the 'gnostic' 1998-99 film wave at the end of the Milennium.
positive · AI labelView post →You guys have seen Sour Grapes right? He's pretty great in that (tho he's definitely channeling Kramer) I also liked him more or less as the protagonist in The Thirteenth Floor. He could've made a solid everyman in detective stories if that movie had made any money.

Released the same year as The Matrix, this film is more nuanced, mysterious and less feisty. Vincent D’Onofrio rocks his bleached hair. www.imdb.com/title/tt0139...
