Players praise the game's beautiful art, music, and emotional storytelling. [1][2][3] Some reviewers find the gameplay clunky and the mini-games frustrating. [4][5][6] Many recommend it as a touching, narrative-driven experience despite its flaws. [7][8][9]

[url=store.steampowered.com/app/966670/The_Wanderer_Frankensteins_Creature/]The Wanderer would have been a fine exercise in storytelling if it weren't for inordinately stiff mechanics. The game opens up in a positively unusual way, and for a moment it maintains its appeal as you walk this mysterious hooded figure through the white void to reveal hazy scenes. Color eventually blends in and the game serves up a …

I can't overstate my admiration for this game. It's such an exquisite version of the story. The artwork is stunning, the narrative is heart-wrenching, and the gameplay is delightful. I finished it in one sitting because I just couldn't tear myself away. My only slight complaint was with the ending -- I'll avoid spoilers, but the ending wasn't quite what I'd hoped. Nevertheless, as a whole, this game blew me away in …

I could continue on about how the music is incredible (if Gris met Octopath Traveler) or how the visuals are some of the best you’ll see this year, but honestly, words feel cheap when it comes to recounting what I experienced. This is really one of those games that can change you because it makes you feel something that you thought you’d lost in your youth and would never experience again. Yet that reaction I had …

A gorgeous game that really encapsulates the creature's thoughts feelings and world view. I was surprised at how different the game feels and makes me think between playthroughs, you can play it at least three times and get three completely different experiences. It's a bit buggy sometimes and the movement is wonky, but mostly not game breaking. Overall, if you love a good story and have a free day, I highly …

Some short of walking simulator. Is it worth to take this walk? Hell yeah! My eyes need eye-drops from too much beauty and my ears are dripping rainbows.

This is the first time it’s been localized, too!

All I know is anytime I've posted a request to the in-game Shiren the Wanderer Rescue Board, an anonymous fellow traveler has recovered my corpse within the next few hours and saved my run. This is a small but mighty community.

EDIT: Now that I've finished the game, I'll give it a more thorough review. Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley's 1818 novel Frankenstein, or, the Modern Prometheus is probably my all-time favorite book, and sparked a interest in and passion for classic Gothic science fiction like The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, The Picture of Dorian Gray, and The Invisible Man. It's a…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I made a wiki/guide site for Mystery Dungeon: Shiren the Wanderer (Super Famicom) This game is pretty neat, and because it never came out officially in the US, it's largely slept on. To my knowledge, this information just isn't available in English anywhere else. zoiteki.github.io/shiren-1/

While I've never been an achievement hunter - I didn't want to let anyone else beat me to getting the mastery (my first and only mastery). It gave me an excuse to beat Fei's, again. neutral · AI labelView post →Anyone on here still playing Shiren the Wanderer? Not enough people on the bad old site playing the game which is the least of the problems there (and elsewhere) but this game might continue to by my ritual to get me through the tar pit of 2024+

positive · AI labelView post →Fanart of chintala from the game Shiren the Wanderer.
neutral · AI labelView post →Noticed that the latest Shiren The Wanderer game is down to its cheapest yet on PC. Japan's answer to Nethack - true old-school roguelike where you build up a bag of tricks and apply layered knowledge to beat otherwise impossible odds. This one's a good'un. ALL Spike Chunsoft stuff is on sale too

positive · AI labelView post →Today is mercifully a bit quieter for game releases... But that just means that the new Shiren The Wanderer hitting PC has nothing to slow it. Duck and cover, roguelike fans, this one's big.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Yup, Shiren's first game was "Mystery Dungeon 2: Shiren the Wanderer" even.
neutral · AI labelView post →The first Shiren the Wanderer game is actually the second Mystery Dungeon game, made by Chunsoft because they wanted a game free from licensing issues and established characters and worlds. It didn't release in North America until 2008, 13 years after its original date, and hasn't been seen since.
neutral · AI labelView post →i'm an old man with the same six jokes i love to bust out to people who have never heard them. however it's important to understand that no matter what, Shiren the Wanderer is a game about finding the stairs.
neutral · AI labelView post →Bought the hottest video game of October 2025. Looking forward to testing whether I remember how to play any other video game that isn't Brandish or Shiren the Wanderer after the past six months. Only one way to find out. 💪😎
positive · AI labelView post →Still playing old Shiren the Wanderer at the expense of literally any other game released this decade. Close to hitting 150 hours in Asuka, well over double what I've put into 6 and I think I might be hitting the end of main post-game stuff? Only time will tell, but I'm still enjoying the ride. 😌
positive · AI labelView post →Incredibly I beat Shiren the Wanderer: The Tower of Fortune's boss on my very last chance! (Low HP, no more health items) So that's my first Shiren game I've played and finished. I loved the art and story in particular.
positive · AI labelView post →'Shiren the Wanderer: The Tower of Fortune and the Dice of Fate' is a really well made game! it's just astonishingly robust. it's so nice that they iterated instead of starting fresh each time.

neutral · AI labelView post →My N64 videos are 1,100 hours behind the live progress, yikes. I guess nearly 300 hours of that are Shiren the Wanderer 2 and the horse game, but still. I will never catch up.
neutral · AI labelView post →The Wanderer is basically a Newgrounds art game with a small budget for some visuals and music. It comprises of the main character that simple-mindedly marvels at nature and humans, tries to draw closer to people, gets shunned or chased away for being a monster, then feels bad about it. Each of these marvel-admire-shun cycles has some minigame mechanic related to it, which include things like the following: Click circles to chop wood Lead your character around to kick a ball at balloons…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Anyone who's ever had a "finishing the game with rare consumables" issue just needs to play a game in the Shiren the Wanderer series, where you'll spend minutes agonizing over which of your 25 or so items is least important when all of them are vital to your survival in some way. It's amazing!

neutral · AI labelView post →Be ready to play a story. The main purpose of this game is not to confront you to hard game mechanics. It is a life lesson about loneliness and judgment. I have felt many emotions through the gameplay and I thanks the creators for that.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →On paper there's a lot to recommend this game (an artsy, gothy, literate point-and-click!) but in practice it's buggy, awkward & slow to control and peppered with insultingly simple mini-games that it'd be better off entirely without.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I wrote a 10+ page essay on this game for a university class on curating literature and got a 12 (the highest possible grade), so to say that I recommend this game is an understatement. Honestly, this is probably one of my top game experiences. I played this immediately after reading Frankenstein, and I was not disappointed - in fact, this was an absolute treat to play. I cannot recommend this game enough.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Thanks to my friend @dugs-n-lux.bsky.social im finally getting into Shiren the Wanderer! Game is pretty funny ngl
positive · AI labelView post →Honestly, I want to recommend this game, but because of the strange pacing and frustrating 'puzzles' I can't. I really like the soundtrack and the visuals (except the extreme white in the beginning which really hurt my eyes). Overall, however, the game left me unsatisfied and frustrated. I think it would have been better if it was just an original concept and not based on Frankenstein at all. As a result, I can't recommend it unless you get it extremely cheap or free and have some time to spare.
