The Wandering Earth
Directed by Frant Gwo
When the Sun begins to expand in such a way that it will inevitably engulf and destroy the Earth in a hundred years, united mankind finds a way to avoid extinction by propelling the planet out of the Solar System using gigantic engines, moving it to a new home located four light years away, an epic journey that will last thousands of years. I didn’t find the characters very likeable either. The Jupiter imagery (like when it’s stripping Earth’s atmosphere) was hauntingly beautiful at least.
negative · AI labelView post →Recently saw "The Wandering Earth II", a Chinese sci-fi movie about strapping rocket boosters onto Earth to flee a dying Sun. Mid as fuck and WAY too long, but it has one of the coolest robot designs I've ever seen--the "FRAMER", or Frontline Robotic Augmentation For Military Elite Rangers.

positive · AI labelView post →So i just watched The Wandering Earth for discord movie night and OH MY GOD THIS IS THE BEST GODDAMN MOVIE I HAVE EVER SEEN. AND I DONT USE THAT TERM AT ALL FOR MEDIA I LIKE! IT WAS AN EMOTIONAL ROLLERCOASTER AND GOT ME TO CRY! There’s a sequel too! I can’t wait to watch that!
positive · AI labelView post →My ★★★½ review of The Wandering Earth II on @letterboxd: boxd.it/4MXcYz #265moviereview Filmsky 📽️
positive · AI labelView post →god this movie rips, I need a model of the Wandering Earth
positive · AI labelView post →I've often wondered why I've never been cast in any of the 'Wandering Earth' movies. 🤔 But looking back at this very mediocre audition I did for the second movie (back in 2022!) I'm starting to understand why I was never called in...🤣🤣 #actorslife #acting #audition #filmmaking #movie #art? 🤭
neutral · AI labelView post →hmm... huh.. hm.... The Wandering Earth is... hmmm... it's like...... huh.... but it's also.... I don't know..... Might need to rewatch it at some point cause rn I'm kinda just.... huh.... what to feel
neutral · AI labelView post →My favorite CCP propaganda is the Wandering Earth movies. I think a lot about their analysis of US global leadership and the competing vision they explicitly set out to offer in the second film.
neutral · AI labelView post →FRAMER bot from sci-fi movie The Wandering Earth II #infinitybox
neutral · AI labelView post →Jumping in uninvited, but I taught a freshman seminar a few years ago called “The Environment Strikes Back” and taught Godzilla, The Happening (which lol), Annihilation (the book works better than the film, though), and The Wandering Earth. Those all fit the bill, I think.
neutral · AI labelView post →I was absolutely blown away by The Wandering Earth II, which upon seeing it immediately became my favorite film of 2023. After @notoriouslightning.bsky.social saw it, it became his favorite of 2023 as well. For those looking for films that remind of the spectacle of RRR and Avatar 2, this is it.
positive · AI labelView post →okay but for whatever the opinions of a random american are worth THE WANDERING EARTH was a pretty successful attempt at "a Chinese Avatar," if by "an Avatar" we mean "a space movie that feels sweeping and epic and emotionally resonant despite being dumb as shit (and also it makes a ton of money)"
positive · AI labelView post →So, having now watched "The Wandering Earth" I can say that it makes like every other sci-fi disaster film looking like a freaking splinter in terms of total cataclysm.
positive · AI labelView post →So... Just watched "The Wandering Earth II." Good movie. Long movie. @chanda.bsky.social @cinncine.bsky.social were right about the twist at the end. Still mad about🤐 not making it, but Ben Ben? 👍🏾👍🏾 The points where they just have to ditch science to keep things moving are mixed.
neutral · AI labelView post →The Wandering Earth. It's a great Chinese movie about mankind's efforts to escape the solar system far in the future when the sun is dying.
positive · AI labelView post →Believe it or not I’ve actually seen The Wandering Earth; a friend’s brother kinda coopted a movie night and that’s one of the two he really pushed to watch. I liked it a lot, though it’s very Chinese (ie incredibly tragic/schmaltzy).
positive · AI labelView post →Managed to move 140lbs of dog remotely by the power of string cheese. Our regularly scheduled nap plans may now resume. Gonna nap listening to the audiobook "The Wandering Earth" that inspired this movie -- Enjoy! (eng & ?? subtitled)
neutral · AI labelView post →@robmcminn.uk tho I despise "serious" tentpole sci-fi films that popularize bad science, I'm not against films that lean fully into a concept that's understood to be silly. like The Wandering Earth. patently absurd, but fully committed to gonzo spectacle. like a Michael Bay film on steroids.
positive · AI labelView post →The Wandering Earth is a science fiction movie that has the people on Earth working together. Great movie!
positive · AI labelView post →Movie #9: The Wandering Earth. Chinese SF, which just gives you something a bit different from Hollywood. Good stuff with wild SF-concepts. A bit schmalzi towards the end, but tense throughout. Funnily enough, my second SF film where the sun is apocalyptically misbehaving in a short time.
positive · AI labelView post →DuckDuckGo's AI said the film featured in Paul Oakenfolds Metamix as Stanley Kubricks 2001 A Space Oddesey. WRONG! It was a Chinese film called The Wandering Earth. NEVER trust Ai on anything!!
neutral · AI labelView post →I think most Americans would in fact be shocked to turn on a recent Chinese comedy or sci-fi spectacle or animated film and see just how familiar they feel. The Wandering Earth films are Armageddon but with Chinese nationalism in place of American patriotism (also much much much better as movies)
positive · AI labelView post →The point is: This is a structural and geopolitical issue, not an issue of individual films. Chinese blockbusters are *extraordinarily* similar to American ones. Ne Zha is like a Dreamworks film. The Wandering Earth is like a 90s disaster flick. There's nothing incomprehensibly foreign about them.
neutral · AI labelView post →Just finished The Wandering Earth movie. Having read the 3 Body Problem, I can see Liu Cixin all over the plot and themes. Unfortunately, I can also see his weakness in writing women. It was a bombastic mashup of familiar apocalyptic fare. Recommend if you're science-y disasters.
positive · AI labelView post →Damn I thought you could stream The Wandering Earth 2 in Australia but only the 1st movie is available on Netflix 😒
neutral · AI labelView post →Hardback: A City on Mars by the Weinersmiths Hoopla: Love after the End anthology, which we will discuss on Friday! eARC: The Thief and the Wild by Seann Barbour Movie: halfway through The Wandering Earth II, good so far but intense Series: halfway through X-Men '97
positive · AI labelView post →Alright let’s go with karma/blue cat thing - you’re getting a little weirdness and whimsy with the crush but not with the Swift, Swift is a bit of a fuck you vibe and that makes The Wandering Earth a good tonal fit, a movie where they strap rockets to the Earth to move it through the solar system.
neutral · AI labelView post →There’s a film with a similar concept, based on the story The Wandering Earth by Cixin Liu. The sun is going to go supernova so they build giant rockets and move the Earth to a different solar system.
neutral · AI labelView post →Meant to say the book you were thinking of is The Wandering Earth. They did a great movie and a follow up, with a third on the way
neutral · AI labelView post →Foreign "loud" (as in, not a quiet character drama) film you've never heard of and would never see otherwise. This is how I saw The Wandering Earth

neutral · AI labelView post →I think The Wandering Earth(a movie about humanity using thrusters to propel Earth away in an attempt to escape the dying sun) also depicts a similar situation. they were producing dried earthworms as food in it.
neutral · AI labelView post →im watching The Wandering Earth II and the decision to make Transhumanist Indians the anagonists is wild 😭 but i guess chinese film, to be expected
negative · AI labelView post →THE WANDERING EARTH II (@imprintfilms.bsky.social blu-ray). One of the better looking films ever. A very heady prequel to the more action sci-fi focused first film. I dug this a lot.
positive · AI labelView post →DuckDuckGo AI confused 2001 A Space Odyssey with a Chinese film The Wandering Earth. Trust AI? Not a fucking chance.😅

neutral · AI labelView post →I just started watching a cool Chinese sci-fi movie called The Wandering Earth and so far the most unbelievable part is that humanity comes together to save the planet from certain destruction. Cause like. Insert that John Travolta gif here tbh.
positive · AI labelView post →I could. Or The Wandering Earth. At least they were fun with a side of silly and not a damning indictment of What Makes Movie Fun
neutral · AI labelView post →Recently discovered a short story/movie called the Wandering Earth. I have no idea why, but I'm absolutely fascinated with the bizarre concept of turning the entire earth into essentially an ark to save humanity from the sun's expansion. So much so in fact that I decided to draw it.
neutral · AI labelView post →There's a 2019 Chinese movie called The Wandering Earth where they're boosting the Earth out of the solar system to escape the expanding sun. It's pretty good imo.
positive · AI labelView post →Unboxing Disk Kino’s 4K UHD edition of THE WANDERING EARTH II. As usual, most of the bonus features aren’t English subtitled save for separate disc where you can watch director Frant Gwo and producer Gong Geer watching the entire film and providing commentary along with it.
neutral · AI labelView post →I just watched The Wandering Earth (yes, the one based on the short story by Liu Cixin). I was dubious at how they'd flesh out the short story into a 2h movie, but holy fuck. It blew me away. Happy New Year.

positive · AI labelView post →Watching THE WANDERING EARTH '2' --- wow. This movie, which could be its own miniseries (2.5 hours), has more deep-detail CGI than anything I have ever seen. Lots of high-scale action, and unlike first which was "China-sanitized" the English language track here full of F-bombs. #WANDERINGEARTH
