Counted from the reviewers’ own thumbs up/down on the 197 English Steam reviews we collected, not by the AI. Valve’s all-language rating: Very Positive (3,551 of 4,138 positive).
Players say Tinkerlands is a fun early access game similar to Terraria, Core Keeper, and Necesse. [1][2][3] Some reviewers note it has bugs and balancing issues but has solid foundations. [2][4][5] A few players criticize it as a derivative clone with a boring core loop. [6][7][8]

It is like playing a bad, counterfeit and poorly planned copy of Terraria| made for preteen kids. If you played Terraria, the first thing you will notice when you start playing Thinkerlands is how similar the sound track is to Terraria. Not only it uses the same digital instruments, the music has the same vibes, with similar tone scales and progression. It is like listening to a cover band that got creative with the …

Exploration flows naturally into base building, and the experience becomes more engaging over time. It is still in Early Access, but its foundations are solid and future updates have a lot of potential.

If you enjoy Terraria, you'll most likely enjoy this. It follows the same gameplay loop, ore > boss > potentially farm the boss > new biome, rinse and repeat. It's not nearly as polished and has balancing issues: - Mounts trivialize every boss fight, apart from the last 2 (completed the whole game in survivor difficulty, so it's safe to assume it's even worse in normal) - A lot of weapons didn't feel like an upgrade …

"Another Terraria/Core Keeper/Necesse clone" — good. More of those, please. That comparison gets thrown around like it's an insult. It isn't. Those games are some of the most enjoyable things in the genre, and Tinkerlands sits comfortably alongside them. I've also seen comments claiming exploration isn't rewarded here, and I don't recognise that. I can't help but fully clear a map, and Tinkerlands gives me a dozen …

if you enjoy games like Necesses or Terraria then you'll love this game! However in the state it's currently in it's a bit buggy BUT even so.. it's definitely worth playing.

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Currently, I can't recommend this game as the core loop feels really boring and hollow. There are much better games in this genre. base building is kinda mandatory to have the various NPCs around, but then building a base is extremely grindy and boring. The most basic thing, a wall, costs two wood. A tree gives like 4-6 wood, also... ... tool speed feels way too slow and the progression of tools is weird. Other than similar games, tools have 2 stats: tier and strength. Up to my…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Our game "Tinkerlands" is nominated for the Most Anticipated Game in the GameMaker Awards! Couldn't be prouder of the team <3 The game has a huge amount of fun stuff to do even tho it's still in early access and we are working really hard to add even more things.

neutral · AI labelView post →Honestly. I brought this game before trying Terraria. Because I liked the Demo. I played it and liked it then brought it when it came out. But. But, while the game was moving from demo to early access. I played Terraria. Then I realised. Its ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. They took everything from 2 games. Terraria & Core Keeper. Like everything. There is nothing original in this game. Its a cheaper version of both at once. Which makes no sense. If you brought this game I fairly recommend you to refund it as I…

neutral · AI labelView post →It is pretty good, but that's not to say it's truly unique. It's another terraria, core keeper, necesse boss rush. I think a lot of these types of games focus on the next big boss as opposed to progression into different biomes. So usually for me at least it looks like higher ore>better gear>clean up old easy content. Thought the game does have a lot of items and has some unique ideas. The main point is to beat bosses. Not so much the exploration. I think it can definitely be fun with friends…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I finally drew something, so one of the games I bought on the steam sale was Tinkerlands, nice little game with about like 30 hours of things to do, still in early access so it has a long way to go still, I decided to draw my character by the time I finished the game. #sfw
positive · AI labelView post →as a day 1 player i gotta say, it's like a tropical core keeper, but still has its own strong identity, it's a lot of fun and i highly recommend it to anyone who plays games like core keeper, terraria, starbound, or other games in that genre
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →for a sprite game its really un optimized and should not lag as much as it does for what is pretty basic graphics. it worked well for a while but then they updated something and it all stopped running smoothly
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Pretty decent co-op game. For enthusiasts of sandbox survival titles such as Terraria, Necesse, and Keplerth, this game comes highly recommended.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I like it so far. The game copies very heavily from Terraria, Valheim, and Necesse in many ways, but it does still have a decent amount of its own charm. I appreciate all the non-combat systems in the game like the cooking and village systems. The visuals are much better than those of Necesse and the village system seems more rewarding in terms of what you get from NPCs. That being said, I do wish that villagers went outside of their homes and interacted with each other or that protecting…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Overall, the game is great. Progression Structure: World progression works a bit like Necesse's old "island" system, where you go to specific island biomes and there may or may not be an above/belowground which each may or may not be their own tier of progress. You "roll" and "reroll" islands though, and instantly travel to any of the ones that are available. They're clearly marked with tiers and unlocked as you complete the previous tier, usually by killing the boss of the island.…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Tinkerlands... in the subgenre of top-down Terrarialikes it's not as good as Necesse, already better than Core Keeper. But Tinkerlands is still in early access so there's time for the devs to innovate and set this game apart from the rest in a growing subgenre. There's really not much more to say about its current state. It's pretty much a carbon copy of Terraria at the moment in terms of gameplay, with a worse version of the old island hopping mechanic from Necesse. Amazing bones though…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If you like Core Keeper and Terraria, you will likely like this. Above ground on an Island though. In a head to head match up, Core Keeper would get the nod as the better game imo, but its enjoyable and fun to explore.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I have thoroughly enjoyed playing Tinkerlands! I love the elements of biome based loot, progressively harder bosses, and exploring each island type! Great fun solo, or co-op. The islands get more difficult as you progress in the game, but I don't feel like the game is too grindy to upgrade your equipment to survive harder enemies and biomes. Lots of secrets hidden in each island and lots to explore! Each boss has multiple drops, so make sure you spawn them a few times to unlock all of their…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →There are too many annoying things in the game for it to be fun. You can't move around freely because there are too many useless items cluttering the map. The respawn rate of the trash enemies is way too high. The cooking mini-game is really bad. The food system feels like an unfinished mess. (Check out Core Keeper to see how it should be done). The quests are weird. Most of the time you don't really know what reward you'll get from them, and even after completing one you often still don't…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →its got potential but because the game is balanced around a stupid dash like every other game these days everything does way too much damage to encourage dashing away from attacks. dashing does not necessarily add any fun gameplay element to games especially if its 2D and it annoys me to see so many games balancing enemies around it. sure you can give us the option to dash if we want to but like dont balance the game around it please. upgrading my armor doesnt feel very impactful at all when i…

neutral · AI labelView post →some of these games have strong genre fit for SNF (i.e. streamable, multiplayer, roguelike elements) Kletka's demo has been making the rounds on YouTube interestingly, Tinkerlands launched their demo a week before SNF also fascinating to see Keep Driving do so well!!
neutral · AI labelView post →The number of bugs should not have been allowed to get through to early access, not being able to turn your character when swinging a weapon, placing an object with the cursor didn't work requiring moving the character to specific spots for an object to be placed (removal of a wall was needed). Heck, even submit a bug is a problem. Do you understand? if I type up how to recreate the bug, and then press enter, it deletes everything written and i have to do it again. This came out over a year…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is like a top-down Terraria. It has issues because it's in early access but there's a lot of content coming out periodically, and great improvements over time. A lot of bosses and areas to explore. The music is great and will remind you of Terraria.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →obviously its in early access so its only gonna get better. what it is right now is worth the price. if you like stuff like necesse or terraria, you may like this one.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If anyone needs a suggestion for this, we're making a game called Tinkerlands @tinkerlands.bsky.social and you definitely should give it a look. Just saying :D
neutral · AI labelView post →+++ ●Atmosphere and Style: Pleasant pixel graphics in the spirit of Terraria, Core Keeper, and Necesse. ●Excellent Co-op: Co-op survival for up to four players is stable and a lot of fun. ●Combat: Battles with mobs and bosses feel dynamic, with each boss having its own mechanics. ●Learning Curve: The game is friendly to beginners and doesn't have the harsh penalties for death found in other survival games. ●Magic and Crafting: An interesting system for crafting tools, building a base, and…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Good and fun game especially the first playtrought. If you're looking for games similar to Core Keeper or Terraria this one is for you. Has some bugs but not many and no game breaking ones at least in my expirience. Has some grindy parts which can be a bit exhausting if you have bad luck. But its still fun, has many and cool bosses and even some secret ones, so you might want to check out the wiki from time to time so you don't miss out on one.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Remember Early Access Game. Still very clunky. Couldn't play very long, got killed by a crab I summoned accidently. Then My interaction keys wouldn't work. Switched to controller to see if that would help, did restart. Nope nothing. Tooltips need work. Not very intuitive yet.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Game is great. However it still needs a lot of fixing. I was playing this game with my brother and every time that i am opening and closing a chest or trying to stack items in it, it causes huge lag spikes to my brother.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →gives the feeling of when i first played terraria
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The state the game is in is absolutely bad. The game is poorly optimized and multiplayer is not worth it (constant crashes, item losses and other bs) I might give a chance in the future, maybe devs will adress this in future updates, but i will look away from this software for the next year or two.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →So many Bugs in the latest Version your waypoints despawn due to a bug, enemies one hit you, running and moving is super slow, when i played this game a year ago it was good, now its just bad.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is quite big for being in early access! Lots to do and experience, whenever you think you've seen it all, for some reason you find even more stuff.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Played 90 hours now, stable, then unstable. Final verdict? GOOD GAME! I've been on the sick so I've had a lot of time to plunge into it, but I think even for general playing this is a great past time. There's LOADS to do in it for an early access game, the mining is a bit clunky but you get the hang of it. The fishing mechanic is the best I've played before, because normally it's the first thing I search to mod, but this one is balanced just right! There's farming but it's not essential, which…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is awesome. It allows you to chill and discover a lot of things. I´ve been playing it with my wife and everyday we discover a new thing to do! This is a highly recommended game, and at current price it´s a bargain! Go ahead, have some fun!

positive · AI labelView post →A handful of my favorite demos from the Steam Next Fest: ⚒️Tinkerlands: A cute 2D crafting adventure game. Strong Terraria vibes, so it went straight on my wishlist. 🦖Temtem Swarm: Temtem meets Vampire Survivors. Very addicting! 🔨CraftCraft: Become a blacksmith! Fun & interactive crafting.
neutral · AI labelView post →Game alright. All bosses are pretty much the same with different colors loading in to new islands is ♥♥♥♥. you have to wait for host to load then 1 player at a time to load into the map all weapons are the same mechanically just more damage is different colors recommend for singleplayer
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Tinkerlands is an absolute blast to explore, and in many ways it feels like a mix between Terraria and Core Keeper—which is definitely a good thing. The gameplay loop is familiar in the best way: gathering resources, upgrading gear, and pushing into new biomes feels satisfying, and the world design really encourages exploration. The weapon designs are great overall, especially in the early and mid‑game. However, the magic weapons in the endgame are a bit disappointing and don’t really deliver…

neutral · AI labelView post →2/10, VERY very grindy, 90% of all the accesories are useless, the developer cant decide whether he wants this to be a terraria clone or an island exploration game. So so many desicions regarding this game I cant even begin to tell all of them. This needs alot more time in the oven, this game needs less padding and filler. Let us bring the NPCs on the boat, instead of going back to the main island all the time.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Uninspired, you've played this game before and it was done better elsewhere.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Progression is boring, the top down terraria genre is kinda ass ngl
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Quite fun to play with friends. Good building system, great cosmetic options, and various weapons/armor to cater to melee, long range, mid ranger, and magic playstyles. Lots of content already, and still being actively developed with regular updates. Have enjoyed plenty of time with this already and looked forward to future patches and the eventual full release!
