Players praise the charming pixel art, music, and combination of deckbuilding with Into the Breach-style tactics. [1][2][3][4] Some reviewers report game-breaking bugs and a lack of post-launch support since December 2024. [5][6][7][8] Several players note the game feels derivative and lacks content or polish. Toads of the Bayou is a well-crafted tactical roguelite with a charming universe and some interesting ideas, but it’s very hard to recommend in its current state. The game appears to have been abandoned since December 2024 and lacks essential quality-of-life updates, bug fixes, and post-launch support. The presentation is easily its strongest point. The pixel art is beautiful and full of character, and the Louisiana …

Really cool game! It has the core of Into the Breach, but also gives the roguelike style of Slay the Spire. I can go with multiple builds with the same character and have a different feeling each time. I could not connect with Into the Breach, but this game feels much fast-paced and comfortable to play. It's totally worth your money. And the characters are frogs and toads. What more could you ask for.

Toads of the Bayou is an extremely charming game with a very solid deck building rougelike gameloop. If you enjoy "Slay the Spire" or "Into the Breach", then you'll enjoy this. The game feels balanced, the art style is massively charming and fun, everything feels incredible well polished. Very great game, especially for the price!

I was looking for new grid-based tactics games to play this year, and while I will recommend this one, I do think it may be a bit too derivative to truly excel. Pros: +It's styled after Into the Breach, one of the best in the genre, although it's boiled down to be much simpler. Smaller map, only 1 playable unit, missions are much quicker. +Solid art direction and music +It's fast and cheap! Cons: - It's *too* …

Toads of the Bayou is a roguelite deckbuilder which has tactical turn based combat similar to Into The Breach. The player must help a group of toads free their home from the evil Baron Samedi. Combat takes place on small maps, the player controls one character, and will play cards which are randomly drawn into your hand, to move or attack. You can see which tiles each enemy intends to attack on their turn, which …

neutral · AI labelView post →I just had to buy it because of my username. The game has potential. The cards look decent, the environment looks alright, and the frog theme is very cute. It tries to be something along the lines of Fights in Tight Spaces and Into the Breach, and that particular roguelike niche is not overcrowded yet. The problem is that it’s just not a polished product. The characters are easily broken, mostly because of the movement card "returning" to your hand after each kill, and the "party" mechanic…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →To the devs reading this, I want to commend your efforts for making a structurally decent game. I don't dislike the game by any means but it's suffering a death by a thousand cuts that I can't look past. I'll try to keep this brief because I've already spent enough time playing the game (update: I didn't, oops) - I think it's important buyers understand what they'll be getting at the time of this review. I got all the achievements in the game so I've experienced everything there is to offer.…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game had potencial. It has great gameplay, fun mechanics, nice pixelart graphic. Unfortunately there are still lots of bugs and the game seems dead. It had no new patches since December 2024. I can't recomand it because of all those bugs.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Very well made game with great art and music, the gameplay is good too... buuuuuut there's just so little content. The store page says "50+ Cards" which already doesn't sound like a huge amount, but then you realise each character only has access to a third of those cards. I'll gladly recommend this game if it gets free content updates that expand it, but right now, nah.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Toads of the Bayou is an Into The Breach-like high-focus tactics game with some light deckbuilding bits. Fun setting - cartoon amphibian folks battle Baron Samedi and other voodoo villains in the Louisiana swamps. The card art is gorgeous and parallaxed too. store.steampowered.com/app/2190400/...
positive · AI labelView post →I really want to like this game, but I am experiencing too many bugs that ruin the experience for me. Hits not registering, cards not being drawn (forcing me to restart my run), rewards not being shown or calculated accurately. I'll happily adjust my review when the game received some proper bug fixing.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Overall Rating : 9/10 As a playtester during development (go ahead, add 10 extra hours to my game time), I bought and dove into the full realease of Toad of the Bayou with high expectations and it delivered. This strategy game combines deck-building with roguelike progression and throws in some serious toad mayhem, perfect for fans of Slay the Spire and Into the Breach. Each run is like a swampy, high-stakes adventure, where you assemble a fierce deck to outsmart an array of enemies and tackle…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I want to like this game, I have played it alot... but it is unfinished, abandoned, and very much unbalanced.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Toads of the Bayou is turn based + Card Deck Roguelike, together with beautiful pixel art graphic. there 3 main islands with different area, with different map objective and enemy encounter. its took about 2 hours per run to reach the end of the map if everything run perfectly, which will unlock a new hero with different play style to play. So its will took bit of times and trial to reach the true ending. Unfortunately there no UNDO button if you make a wrong move, wish the dev can update with…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game is fun I very much enjoyed my time with it but it needed some qol updates and some new content but sadly the game was abandoned years ago.

neutral · AI labelView post →Agree with most of the other reviews. Had a decent time of it, but 11 hours in I died to a boss when he hit a tile that wasn't displayed as a dangerous tile. I've also lost runs to tiles that look exactly the same as others but which you can't move over, and a dozen other small things. Go play more into the breach, or Shogun Showdown, or Slay the Spire or Necrodancer or whatever itch you were going to use this to scratch. It's too easy to break runs, the currencies don't respect your time, and…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The art in this game is good, but maaaaaaaaan once you're past that, its a UI nightmare slog. The gameplay is clunky, text disappears way too fast for some reason, and there's too many moments where you're like "whoa okay I guess my run is over because that happens apparently!" EVERY mission is basically the same, and for a game that basically is RNG on what objectives will be ruined, the ability to make for them is so minimal it's ridiculous. Did I mention that you can't rotate the…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Great game that unfortunately was not ready for release. There are way too many bugs that kept ruining entire runs and eventually I came across a game breaking bug that kept me from playing any further. Continuing game or starting a New Game still carried the bug over and I was unable to purchase items and my gold was stuck at (-1). When continuing game the sprites on battle map would not load in, The game also has the framerate completely unlocked (with a bugged frame cap limiter) so my game…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game seemed to have promise, but it is currently too buggy to be taken seriously. My 2nd run is bugged and I can't continue playing. When they fix the bugs, I'll change my review to recommend the game.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Still very very buggy. Not worth this.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →TL:DR: Stop mentioning 'Slay the Spire' in your reviews. TL:DR #2: Lack of variety, build options, failure to scratch both the roguelike AND deckbuilder itch makes it hard to recommend I got baited by people comparing it to Slay the Spire, which is a wild comparison. Not because i think it's a much better game (I do), but the fact that there are NO similarities between this and StS. You might as well be saying 'If you like Noita, play this' like what? They're not even similar and have nothing…

Toads Of the Bayou is Into The Breach with deckbuilding For the price of one regular retail game (£50) you can get everything on that page and I PROMISE you will get more entertainment out of it

neutral · AI labelView post →Good game but there are some game breaking bugs. I'd say wait until some hotfixes come out until you buy it. I just encountered a game breaking bug within the first 4 hours. I literally can't play the game right now.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I really want to like this game, but it's a buggy & poorly designed mess. Your allies constantly attack both you and the buildings you are trying to protect. It's impossible to see the grid and what is going on. Damage comes from random places you have no way of knowing about, or the game glitches and you can't see where the attacks are. Great idea, piss poor execution.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →good game, best for playing on Wednesdays, by the way.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →In the first island (6 stages), every mission was the same. kill 8 enemies, and protect a destructable.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Not a true isometric game, it's got pixel graphics rigged to 3d models somehow which is why it's so resource heavy for what appears to be a 2d game. If you are looking for a nice game to run on your potato computer this isn't it.

Concept 10/10 Gamplay 9/10 Story 7/10 Music 7/10 There are (or should I say WERE) some bugs, but so far the developers are listening to the community and fixed almost every bug I know about and 100% of all bugs I experienced the same day of release. neutral · AI labelView post →I really wanted to like this game because the theme and art style are great, but it just isn’t enjoyable to play. The difficulty feels random rather than challenging, resources are either scarce or pointless, and there’s very little sense of reward or personalisation in your runs. It’s not a bad game, just not fun for me, and I don’t feel motivated to keep playing.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I recommend it on the fact that there are good gameplay elements here. The art is also really nice, both for the cards and all of the pixel-art animations. The game feels really good too, it's quick and crisp with the right sounds for actions taken. I also picked it up on sale so for the cheap price, it was worth it. Reasons why I don't recommend it however: - Some bugs and game design choices. When completing a mission the game gives you the incorrect amount of oil (currency). If you fail an…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Combine the Slay the Spire deck-building with Into the Breach's tiny, grid-based maps and the warring animal people of Redwall. Then you might have some idea of how this is going to go. Pretty fun little game with slick pixel art and a great soundtrack. The card strategy is easy to pick up and hard to master. I cleared the first character, The Leader, on my second run to unlock The Sister. On paper, she is more powerful than the Leader, but for whatever reason, I always choke on the last…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game has an interesting concept, and looked really promising when I first picked it up. But the game has a few major balancing issues which made the game too easy for me. Looking at the Discussion forum, I see that other players also ran into the same issue as well. Although similar in style as "Into The Breach", there isn't much replayability with this game unfortunately. Also, the game progression felt quite linear.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Enjoyed it for a few hours but now the left mouse input doesn't register so I can't play. Might try to reinstall and see if that helps later. Doesn't support controller (about half the needed functions aren't bound and there are no keybind settings). the tutorial is brutal, not in difficulty, but the amount and pace of pop ups. its unskippable and interupts actions a lot. cloud saves dont work although i dont think there is any carry over progression anyway
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →don't buy it. yet. the game is a buggy mess for now. edit: not that buggy anymore, but has no content
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Toads of the Bayou is a cute little game about swampy amphibians fighting back against occult occupation. It is easy to pick up, fun to play, and satisfying to beat. Unfortunately, there are more than a few things that keep it from being a very good game. Art: 7/10. The art is perfectly fine, the pixel-art animations are smooth and the background music is pleasant. The early American motifs put through a toad-y filter makes the visuals interesting but not fantastic. No real notes here. Game…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I don't actually like deckbuilders but decided to give the demo a try because I was so charmed by the graphics style. I ended up liking it so much I bought the complete game, which is quite cheap considering what you get. I've been having a blast! The graphics are adorable, a highly detailed pixel style with lots of things to explore if you let your eyes wander the screen. The soundtrack is absolutely outstanding, a really cool sort of mix of surf rock and Louisiana Bayou/Mississipi Delta…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I'm surprised that the text boxes in the tutorial isn't even on the screen, 25% is missing as they extend over the screens edge. (resolution 1920x1200) And I'm surprised how poorly optimised it is, granted I have an old PC, but this game shouldn't ramp up my GPU in the intro and menus. And reading the comments of others there seems to be a lot of bugs. Wait a year and see if they are actually done by then, this is not a finished product. I'm refunding this.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →haven't gotten past the second island, but i adore a lot of what this game is giving me! the art on the all of the cards is just so phenomenal. i feel like i will stay on this game for a good while. can't wait to unlock the other characters :)
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Nice almost jazzy music, I like how many different builds you can get and that maps are different each time and matter in your strategy. Lovely card art and it is challenging enough to make you want to come back and do another run.

neutral · AI labelView post →Great game, I haven't had any bugs that I've noticed, though with all these toads around maybe they're gone? The art is great, the cards are well thought out, the boss levels are fun and the enemies are just tricky enough. The play style for each unlockable character deck is unique enough to be fun but still familiar, with the degree to which each is unique increasing as you unlock them. The maps are small and I suppose could feel a little repetitive at times, but trying to control or at…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I give this game a 7/10 for now as I think with some small patches and maybe a little more variety in builds and cards this game could really breakthrough and be something amazing. It's seriously fun and solid and I recommend it to anyone who likes a good blend of card games with a light element of tactical RPG's, and gives more of a puzzle game where positioning is key. The sound design and aesthetics are on point, the story is fun, and the atmosphere is nice and swampy. This game delivers…

neutral · AI labelView post →Not a fan of roguelikes, but this game got the goods! The art direction is fire, I'm loving the chara design of all the little toads and environments, and that soundtrack passes the cosy vibe check! It can get a little frustrating, as the concept of death&retry behind roguelikes tends to feel repetitive, but so far there's enough diversity in the deckbuilding or accessorising (veve, traps, support toads!) that there's room to explore a different approach each run. The random generated maps are…
