Players find Town to City a genuinely cozy and relaxing city builder that helps with stress and healing. [4][5][6] Some players criticize the forced focus on pleasing a wealthy class and poor optimization. [7][8][9]

Great bones. Problem is I want to spend my time making ALL my townfolk happy, not just the rich townfolk. The concept of the Bourgeoisie being a special class I have to change all my design plans around to be happy stinks. I don't want to spend my free time playing a game where I have constantly be a yes man in service of rich people, I already have a real life. It evokes real emotional disdain in the game for me. …

This game was the only thing I'm able to do on the computer after a very bad burnout at work. I couldn't open my computer for months, but I was watching some playing on yt and I decided to give a try. It's literally helping me to heal.

I don’t know about you, but I’m tired of games marketing as cosy when they’re not, just another ploy to get attention from cosy gamer. So, is this game one of those quick cash grabs with little to no love put into it that’s be the norm recently. No, it’s not. In fact, it’s the exact opposite. I rarely leave reviews for games (or anythings at all, honestly), only when something truly captivates me or really disappoints. Town to City is the first case. This is one of the simplest, coziest, and surprisingly well-crafted city builders I've encountered. You don't need to be an economics genius to keep your city profitable. Citizens won't hate you for every wrong decision and won't flee in droves at your first …

Good all by itself, but with a cold glass of wine and a tiny bit of weed this thing is INCREDIBLY relaxing. really a magical little thing.

87% of the 270 Steam reviewers we collected recommend Town to City. The complaint that keeps coming up: forced to cater to a wealthy class, which some find unpleasant. Deal-breaker or nitpick?

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →i like it cuz i can just decorate as much as i want and i kinda dont have to think abt my economy at all.... i just place nice tree and then another and then another and then another- i wish it would show the townies work tho like they already have a bunch of cute animations with all the decor and chairs. but i wanna see em farm and deliver stuff to the warehouses and stuff! but hopefully it'll be added in a future update! (ALSO would love it if there was seasons in the game instead of just…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →[Edited 10/14/2025] The game is very good. So much freedom to build whatever you want. Overall positive review that I'm not even going to mention the Pro's. The whole game is a Pro. So here are my complaints. Main complaints though: - can't adjust map size. Or there aren't any larger maps. - Can't edit terrain. The first career map has a section that's PERFECT for towers and other parks and what/not, but residents cannot walk up the path/warehouses don't connect over the terrain, even though…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Honestly a pretty big portion of this recommend is just me being genuinely impressed at the pace of development the devs had here. They went from Early Access to full release in just over a year. They hit roadmap goals at a steady pace, polished the game up, and had it out the door. That's unheard of in the modern era. There's games right now that have been in early access for 5-10 years, or even longer. The developers are obviously both very passionate and very skilled. The game itself is…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A really cute and fun city game with one very big flaw: It's too much city and not enough town in terms of game mechanics, but too much town and not enough city in terms of aesthetics. The game starts as a town builder and turns into a city builder really really really quickly, whether you want that to happen or not, but once you get there the city decoration is very lacking. You're encouraged to have more people move in ASAP so you can get more money and research. Pretty standard city builder…

You have a 1000 demand to supply cheese deficit. They won't stop eating cheese. The whole market district is cheese. 10/10 no notes
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Pure serotonin. This is exactly the City Builder game I've been trying to buy for the last 15 years.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It appears to be a cute game. I do like simulations. Had to request refund. If your vision challenged or impaired the voxel style can be very hard to work with. Did not expect that. System no slouch and 27" 2k graphics not help, just the design. Pity it has a very nice "relaxed" atmosphere to game with. I could say recommend if your good with this kind of graphics but like pixel it can be blurry without intending too.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →So many games claiming to be cozy but in reality the're either stressfull or straight up boring. Town to City really fits all the boxes to be a cozy game: - Stakes are there but not to high: Quests to keep you going but there is enough freedom to be creative - Micromanagement without stress: you don't need to set road traffic rules but you can give each house a little flower pot. Or a bench. Or a poster. Or a parasol. Or a flag (flying or hanging) - easy to get in: good tutorial and mechanics…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →(Edit with a quick update: Up to nearly 30hrs now already lol) This game is simply good for the soul. Idk how to put it, but I'll try. Nearly 34 year old dude here, and been through a bit of a rough rollercoaster the past year, due to family issues outta my control.. Past month that hit a brick wall (won't go into details), but fast forward to the past week: I've had a craving for a city builder to get lost in. Something that many of the others fail to remember while developing their…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game scratches a very specific itch I have had for a while where I have been looking for a colony sim type game that is a bit more relaxed in nature, with more focus on the sandbox building element rather than resource management and survival. I am not a fan of Voxel games usually, but this game still manages to be quite pretty in spite of that. I'd throw money at a game like this that isn't voxel based.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is my first city-building/simulation game. I obsessively saved money and wandered around the city. Even though my urban planning was pretty messy, I had a lot of fun playing. The most frustrating part for me is that you can’t move objects in batches. For example, to meet the “gorgeousness” requirement, I placed lots of flowers and small decorations, but having to move them one by one is absolutely exhausting. It really dampened my enthusiasm. I hope the developers see this feedback and…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Love the game! This is a really relaxing game, I played it for 7 hours straight today TT. Got this as an XMas Gift to myself and I definitely have no regrets. A few suggestions though, a brush size change with the curly bracket keys. Also, a search item for the decorations tab <3. Overall this game is sooo lovely!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →awesome! its awesome! so much so i bought this game twice! both of the purchases were for the deluxe edition. First off: Cozy. this game is super cozy! non of the missions are forced. You can take your time with each quests. All the villagers are "super patient" and will allow you to take as much time as you need to keep everyone happy. so no pressure! second: Mechanics bro! aside from some changes that i thought would be more fluid to move around/ zoom. the hyper detail is just wicke! if…

I love how you start with such humble origins and then build up to such an amazing city! Today should be better than yesterday so I'm re-energized and ready to go! Game: Town to City Platform: PC

neutral · AI labelView post →It's a nice game, easy and very enjoyable. I wish there were different maps, though. Once you go through once or twice it becomes very repetitive. Would be lovely if we could change maps or even create our own map. Other than that, if you like stress-free city building you will enjoy this.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →so excited to post my favorite game right now, Town to City ^_^!💗 a pixel art city builder in early access. i got it two days ago and have 10 hours in already. the art, music, villager interactions, everything is so charming. i love this game so much. can’t wait to post more of my lil city
positive · AI labelView post →I spent like 2.5 hours in this game in my first night and it's everything I could've wanted in a cozy city builder. For someone that perhaps didn't appreciate or understand the zen of something like Tiny Glade, this game has just the right amount of city planning and resource management to keep you in check and get you into the flow state. It's fascinating how captivating the concept of running your little town is. And WOW the fact that I can go an walk around my lil town in first person from…

positive · AI labelView post →Okay but I did NOT expect an early access game to hit this hard… Town to City is actually insane. First of all: this game is GORGEOUS. Like genuinely. I’ve caught myself just sitting there staring at my city because everything looks so clean and cozy. The whole vibe is super chill – no stress, no pressure, just build, decorate, and relax. What surprised me the most though? How MUCH there is to do already. For an early access game, this is crazy. You can place, move, and customize pretty much…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Got a review key for Town to City which is now out of early access so I'm ecstatic about playing the full version and making a little cozy highlight on it! Might be a game for you if you like: 🌇 City builders 🌇 Beautiful voxel art style with 19th century Mediterranean vibes
neutral · AI labelView post →So yah this has been fun and I still haven't gone thru all the content. The decorating aspect surprised me. One it's a mechanic for making your people happy and two the decorations change sometimes depending on what you're trying to place them on. Example street lamp. It's a regular street lamp on ground, a wall lamp against a house, an overhead light on the top of a door, and a water lamp when on water. Lots of items have this kind of behavior in the game.

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Decided to finally play this game after watching some of MadMorph's 'fall asleep' videos playing this game, and man is it worth it!!! It's so satisfying. Tutorial is smooth and unobtrusive, imo it does a very good job at introducing the mechanics. For once I didn't feel the urge to jump straight into sandbox mode, which I often do for games like this. I would love to see more requests pop up, after a while it seems you barely get them. Even if there's no reward item attached! I really enjoy…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I tried the demo for this game because I was uncertain at first—it mostly reminded me of Minecraft in terms of graphics, which doesn’t usually appeal to me. However, it slowly grew on me, and it turned out to be one of the easiest-to-learn city builders I’ve played, as well as one of the coziest. The game creates this ambience that is slow and calming, and with birds chirping and soft background sounds, it feels like strolling through a enchanting, quiet little town where all your worries…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Please add to mac systems! I tried playing on my Microsoft surface, but it was slow and kept crashing so I had to request a refund. The few minutes I was able to play, it was such a fun and relaxing game! Truly a game that I would love to play, if available on Mac/more PC systems. Definitely would buy again if it worked on my system.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is one of the best town building games I've ever played, and I've played a LOT. It's cozy, you can go at your own pace, and there are tons of levels of decoration and customization you can do. This might also genuinely be one of the best dev teams I've ever seen on a game, adding tons of really awesome new features like terrain deformation and generally being very receptive and communicative with players. Just to be clear, as I saw this in a few of the handful of negative reviews: this is…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is relaxing and it makes me feel good things instead of rage and anger, which is rare as a nerd.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →People really seem to love this game, and honestly I'm torn because at its core, I also love this game. I think it has a beautiful artistic style, I think its approach to the genre is interesting and fun. But I also really found it pretty boring after a short while, and it became obvious that the "progression" was just going to be a lot of rinse and repeat without much in the way of advancement or real achievement. People want things, you give them those things, over and over and over. Is…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A really fun game, but it is poorly optimized. I have a decent PC, and this is the hottest my PC has ever been playing a voxel game at 2k, 60fps. I even tried the auto detect, and put me into mostly high and very high. which is the temp of my PC. AAA RTX games don't even get my PC this hot, and I have an AC unit pointing DIRECTLY at my PC. Will have to wait for this to be patched to play.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I'm doing a test stream over on YouTube for Town to City so come and join me for a little bit of time to check out the game and say hi! 👀
neutral · AI labelView post →July was such a busy month so here's my recap if you missed anything! I tried making shorts, I played A LOT of Rune Factory Guardians of Azuma (check out the review!), and I tried so many fun games like Town to City, Heartspell Horizon Academy, Curiosmos, and Research Story to name a few!
neutral · AI labelView post →I absolutely love the core concept, visuals and music, but I can't recommend purchasing it in its current state. The optimization is a mess and it seems like devs don't know how to fix it, so at this point in time the mid/end game is unplayable: FPS drops down to hell, CPU usage is ridiculous, and sometimes it taps into the GPU and literally puts it at 100% usage, which should never happen on the lowest available settings (and with my PC specs I shouldn't be playing on the lowest settings…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →As a person who grew up with Sim City and The Sims I genuinely had a blast playing it. My proof probably being my 2000 residents at 98-99% happiness. Really enjoyed the customization of things (houses, nature etc.), the overall atmosphere of the towns that is very comforting, as well as all the updates that included some really cute / fun items or further customization of nature. Considering this is early access I'd love to one day see seasons changing in real time or campaigns where the…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Fun for an hour, but you'll eventually drown in benches. A cute city builder that starts strong but becomes a repetitive chore. Once you've placed your 40th garden and 200th street lamp, the magic disappears. Great for a quick distraction, but don't expect a deep experience. The Bench-Placing Simulator A Charming Start At first, I really enjoyed this game. There is something very satisfying about planning where people will live and decorating their homes with trees, fences, and gardens to…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is crazy fun. You can literally customise every house in the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ town and i mean it. This game is not a cozy game tho. It is only cozy till you open your economy tab and find out that your town is not producing enough cheese. For god knows what people here eat a lot of cheese :) Over all a must play if you are into city builders.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Played somewhere else for almost 10 hours. I love this game as it ticks all the boxes for a casual builder personally. However, I've reached a point in the game where the poor optimization is rearing its ugly ass head. As you can see, I've got specs. I'm hitting FORTY, 40. FORTY fps in my dense cities. With these specs. Do I recommend this game? Yes. But currently, I eagerly await their performance update (read somewhere it's included in their roadmap). Please note that I have not made an…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →With 100+ hours into the game even before the 1.0 release, I can honestly say I love this game. The best way I can describe it is a mindful city builder game, with just enough strategic challenge to ensure that you keep your mind with the game to carefully plan your layout, but with the main focus of the game on decorating your town/city (and each individual building!) to your heart's content. I am not usually a big fan of voxel art and voxel games, but I cannot get enough of Town to City!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I am so shocked that this is an early access game. I've experienced minimal bugs, everything is so refined, and there is so much game play left in the game in it's current state (I'm 20 hours in). When I rate cozy games I rate them via a holy trifecta: Graphics, engagement, and depth. Graphics (Are the graphics refined enough to support engagement, rather than hinder it?): Yes! The graphics are gorgeous, and well thought out. The details that are apparent when you zoom in, the shading,…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →: 18/9/26 Quite some time has been from my original review and now, it has since left early access. I'm not going to change my review to a negative one, but sadly many of the bugs I encountered have yet to be fixed, and in addition new bugs have popped up making gameplay rather frustrating. Performance doesn't feel any better either. It seems the devs are more interested in adding new features than fixing bugs and performance issues. I still think the game is worth it, but I think this is worth…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I haven't felt this excited to play a game since forever. If this game wasn't labelled as early access I would never know coz of how stable and fleshed out it feels. The design of everything is incredible, the gameplay is perfection and the decorating and assets make me believe there is a god out there, but its the devs of this game. I could not recommend this game enough.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Very cozy, warm, relaxing, chill medieval city builder. The look has some resemblance to minecraft but it's fun to play. The music is on point. I like the french/violin or accordion instrumental music. Not bad for a $30 game. Long day at work? give this a try. 10/10
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Finally, a city-building game that doesn’t try to bite off more than it can chew? Town to City is one of the most competent and focused games on the market. It’s not management-heavy, nor is it micro-focused. Instead, it wants you to create a beautiful city with a defined way forward, while also creating pockets of emergent ways to express yourself. (I'll elaborate later.) A common plague among many city-building games I’ve played is that they try to be everything a city-builder could…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I've been keeping an eye on this game since release and finally thought it was time to give it a go and see if it was more my idea of a city builder. I've tried a lot of "city builder", and adjacent games, but this one is far more my preference than a lot of what I've tried recently. It feels much more laid back and enjoyable, a strong focus on design and layout but still requiring some level of strategy to keep your citizens happy. The game itself is beautiful, taking a more simple style…

TLDR: It was fun, and worth the ~30 hours I put into it (my playtime's at 59 for just letting it run while sleeping). Positives: It was fun. It was cute. There is no urgency - perfect for playing while working. Negatives: It can be difficult to differentiate between certain buildings. Sometimes the object snapping gets weird. Biggest gripe: The Mayor Requests are unlocked by certain conditions - there are a…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →When I first saw Town to City, I didn't think I'd be that obsessed but maybe I was lying to myself because I abolutely love these sort of simulation games - and on top of that I enjoy how forgiving this game is, making it super cozy. First saw a streamer play it then immediately checked out the demo. I really enjoy the older aesthetics of the game and how customizable your city can be. I would recommend this game for any creatives who enjoy management sims, but don't want to be stressed out by…

positive · AI labelView post →The demo was very promising and engrossed me so I bought the full game. Unfortunately, there was no more depth to the game at all after the demo. It got boring very very quickly. There's no real strategy involved at all. If you enjoy clicking to build a tiny house and throwing some pixelated decorations on them then this is the game for you. If you're looking for some strategy and something to make you think then you should hard pass on this. $30 is way too much for what this game is. This has…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Very beautiful city-builder, nicely using voxel graphics to allow micro-beautification of every building. That being said, at this point it has a terrible economy. Basically the more you grow, the more your pops demand. However, this game also uses workplace mechanics, so every building needs pops to function. In turn, the growth of your city is steadily decreasing in time, as for every new utility you need more pops to work in them, which requires you to employ more pops for previous needs.…
