Players praise the faithful remake with engaging combat and class mechanics. [1][2][3] Some note the story is serviceable but not groundbreaking. [2][4][5]

A great game that runs well but is borderline unplayable if you're using an ultrawide monitor due to the lazy porting process done by Square Enix. If you're running at 1440p it only offers two resolutions, 720p and 1080p. If you want to run at higher resolutions, you will have to use upsampling from your GPU control panel. The major problem is that it doesn't support any other aspect ratio than 16:9. If playing on a …

It's a pretty good, Comfy Action RPG with 6 characters to play, each with their own strengths and weaknesses, and stories to boot. 6 years later, I believe this game still holds up, and is worth your time, Took me this long to Beat the game Twice, Find all of Lil' Cactus once. and beat the Post Game Twice. If your really into the mana Series, then this will be great, Or if your just getting into the Mana Series, …

While the visuals of this game won't age nearly as graceully as its original counterpart (which is tragically only legally available on the Nintendo eShop), the gameplay improvements to it completely make up for any loss in visual appeal. The story isn't ANYTHING to write home about but again, this game is completely carried by its fun combat system and engaging class mechanics. Not every game you play has to be a …

Trials of Mana is a faithful, respectful update of the SNES action-RPG. It is bright, colorful, anime-styled, and still very much a gameplay-first experience. It’s the kind of remake that doesn’t feel the need to “fix” what wasn’t broken, just make it prettier and smoother. Unlike other Square-Enix "remake" projects that turned into bloated fanfictions. Be warned that despite it looking good, it is still a mid-90s …

I am not a long running fan of this series so this was honestly a new take. First impression, Optimization, I don't think I ran into any issues with it, I actually remember thinking the game runs pretty smooth. Story, different stories of different characters that will all merge to a point near the end and i think there's a level of completion that is increased per ending. So, each ending is a little different until …

The PlayStation 4 version of Trials of Mana was the second-best-selling retail game during its week of release in Japan, selling 80,383 copies. The Switch version came in third place with 70,114 copies sold. In their quarterly fiscal briefing following the game's release, Square Enix said the remake had sold far beyond expectations, contributing to sales growth during the period. By February 2021, the game had sold over one million copies worldwide. On review aggregate website Metacritic, the PC and PS4 versions were well received, while the Switch version saw mixed reviews. Japanese magazine Famitsu noted the story's faithfulness to the original, with one reviewer calling the multiple…

But this time I am realizing that about half the game - once you're just offing mana beasts - becomes nothing but grinding and going to the next boss, and very little personality relative to other Square games then

neutral · AI labelView post →tl;dr Remaking a SNES action RPG was never going to be straightforward, and Trials of Mana has its ups as well as downs. Marketing itself on choosing a party of three out of six characters upon which certain storylines will turn out differently, this is a game that warrants multiple playthroughs to see every minute change. Not even dubious English voice acting could sway me from the class changing mechanic as you pray to RNG gods those ??? seeds sprout you the items you need. Is there…

positive · AI labelView post →Mediocre story, the dumbest heroes of all times (basically everything they do plays into the hands of the villains), you have to pick your companions before starting the game and can't switch during your playthrough, and enemies become damage sponges from hell in the final chapters. Chapter 5 was particularly bad. It's basically a string of 8 boss fights. With a ton of padding, because the dragon you're flying around with in the overworld lands you on the opposite side of each area instead…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is good enough for a game coming out in 2001. It really is a step backward from secret of mana... you cant even have a friend play with you. It's just baffling how they had the formula 30 years ago and still can't figure out how to copy it, let alone upgrade it.

neutral · AI labelView post →I love the Mana series. There's some great games in it. I highly recommend Trials of Mana and Visions of Mana to anyone. Secret of Mana is bad. Not just the remake. It was always bad. It's baffling that this game is so beloved while other much better games are forgotten. Play Lufia 2 instead.
positive · AI labelView post →I'm at a point where I'm finishing the game out of spite. I have no intention of re-playing it. On every level, I did not want to engage with it further. The game doesn't play like the original SNES game, which is fine, but is still quite button-mashy and one-note. Exploring the areas didn't feel particularly fun, I did it to get all the items. There's a baffling 2D platforming sequence that feels so unresponsive, I really don't get why they added it. On the visual side, it's nothing to…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game has one fundamental flaw: it's boring. Nothing really stands out. The characters are bland, the story is bland, the combat is bland, the npc interactions are bland, etc. The only thing this game has going for it is all of the lewd mods, but that's not enough to save it. Skip and find a different JRPG to play unless you're nostalgic for this particular title.
