I want to preface this with i LOVED this game prior to this latest update. Countless hours of fun, an easy buy. I'm changing my review to negative because of three main reasons. -With the launch of the DLC. (Which I don't even own.) The stability of the game has dropped significantly. The DLC introduced many gamebreaking bugs, and after some more or less regular Hotfixes there hasn't been a single word from the devs in months. Game has great potential and can still be fun, but I wouldn't recommend giving money to the Devs at the current state of the game :( EDIT: 2 weeks later there is an small update now. UBOAT is 10% torpedoes, 90% consequences. I bought UBOAT because I wanted a submarine sim. I kept playing because it’s a submarine captain sim. What I love: Crew management actually matters. Roles, fatigue, morale, injuries, trauma, repair priorities. You don’t “drive a sub”. You run a floating crisis machine. Emergent tension. The best moments aren’t scripted. They happen when a patrol spirals: a leak becomes …

As a little kid, I never dreamt of becoming a fighter pilot, a fireman, a policeman, or even an astronaut - I wanted to be a submariner. While the dream faded with age, the interest in the area never did. As a consequence I have played about every submarine game out there. This one is the best of them all, so far, for me. I think they hit the perfect balance of gameplay. The technical level is great overall, while …

Honestly one of the most impressive parts about this game is how they let your tailor the level of realism. You can play it in a pretty much arcade way (awesome) but you can also customize it to make it more realistic to an infuriating degree (calculating each torpedo angle, crew micromanagment). The great part is they make it easy to adjust the settings to find a middle ground that you like. Honestly one of the …

Players who liked UBOAT talk about immersive crew management and morale system; those who didn't talk about dLC update caused frequent crashes and bugs. Which matters more to you?

Critics, per Wikipedia

Reception for the game is currently generally positive. Polygon writer, Charlie Hall, wrote that "there's a brilliant experience lurking in its depths". He praised the effort the developers had gone to making an authentic experience, but stated concerns about how early access the release was and that the game lacked game-play due to large amounts of bugs.

UBOAT is a promising and often enjoyable game, but the latest DLC/update has made it very hard for me to recommend in its current state. Since the update, I have repeatedly run into a serious bug where I cannot properly access the resupply menu or new Flotilla HQ. This has happened twice already, and it effectively breaks the game. If you cannot resupply, drop off surviors, exchange personnel, or use essential base functions, the game becomes unplayable. I know there have already been some 20…

I had a really enjoyable time with U-Boat. I played it across different skill levels, and it works well no matter how you want to approach it. One thing that really stands out is the repair system. The whole mini-game of fixing the sub when things go wrong is honestly great, and probably one of my favorite parts of the game. I do recommend it. As an old submariner, I just naturally enjoy a game like this. Even though I wasn’t on diesel boats, there’s enough there that makes it easy to…

What should my celebratory first game be?. In a few days, the final two components will arrive to *finally* get a fully capable desktop PC again after roughly six months limited to a tiny chromebook wiped and replaced with Linux. It took a while to have the spare cash to get a new/used system off of ebay with the intention of transferring the bulk of my higher end parts from my old desktop to that one, only to realize that the new desktop used a Lenovo 10 pin Power supply, so I'd have to order…

Absolutely worth picking up when it goes on sale, even at full price it is a great game with a lot of potential. And a great introduction to the Subsim game genre Great things about the game: -…

Amazing sub game, the simulator is very flexible and lets you customize your level of play however you want, and I mean any level. You can play the game with ai assistance and have the computer line up the shots while you drive or take your double dose of victory meth, break out the protractor tools, stop watch, and do all the math your self. Run around the submarine in first person, pull random levers over the sub, you just made the sub bottom out and launched all the torpodoes, did you not…

I liked this game very much before update 2026-1. It was consistant, fairly difficult (playing quite leisurable settings) all be it with 90's graphics. After the update I am spotted 3 km of a destroyer at 20 m depht running electric, slow speed, not pinged (that used to be about 800 m, they have hydrophones you know). The update gives new graphics (wow, we went from good enough to mediocre) but the gameplay is much worse off. In port the task were important but you could do them fairly quick,…

New DLC has broken the game. Like everyone else is saying it will crash pretty regularly now. I have experienced two game ending crashes in the last hour alone. Not to mention graphical issues of crew walking around on deck with bright pink trousers and failing to complete ordered tasks etc. the fact its been months with no word from the devs is not great either. Game is fun but very buggy, incomplete, etc. and while mods fix many things they also make it way more unstable. Read my review for the Distant Coasts DLC if you want serious details. Not playing again until major issues and oversights get resolved, especially for the Type IX. Gonna be mostly playing modded SH3 and SH4 until that happens.

A unique approach to a submarine simulation. All the previous games of this kind (including the Silent Hunter series) focused on the combat and operating the submarine itself. While this game can also be set up to function in a similar way, we have the option to include the crew management, the supplies, tech research etc. You can truly immerse yourself this way and start to feel like a true skipper (I guess :-) ). What's good: the visuals, sound, music, weather - all very solid, nothing to…

The tutorials teaches a novice like me the basics. Its also a horror game at times, the tense moments are pretty scary, and the crew will reflect the situation. THE PEOPLE NEED TO KNOW! Holy, what an unexpected gem. I got this looking for something different and this did not dissapoint! There's enough detail where it matters for a game called Uboat as well as some nice surprises. Water modeling that would make Bioshock developers proud, check. Classic German U-Boats, check. Good crew progression, clear roles, good task management, check. What surprised me is how historically acurate the game is and how varied the missions are. Hunt down convoys,…

This is one of those games that's been in my library for ages due to the learning curve and vast world feeling like a bridge too far in terms of commitment. To my surprise, the game is not too difficult to get started with. The crew management is pretty easy to grasp and you can always automate for your first game. UBOAT is well-made in many parts. I'm new to the genre but came with 'experience' of many, many hours spent watching Silent Hunter 3 streams on Twitch. And definitely there was fun I had over the last several months. No crashes or major bugs were encountered, although the game is surprisingly heavy on a GPU on 4K. Why a negative review, though? Simply put, the more time I've spent with the game, the more obvious it becomes that the game is half-baked in many (if not all) places. 60 hours in,…

I absolutely love the concept of this game and the execution is mostly done very well. If you’re even slightly interested in submarine warfare, UBOAT is an easy recommendation. It strikes a really nice balance between realism and playability, detailed enough to feel authentic, but not so overwhelming that you need a naval engineering degree just to leave port. You can fine tune just about everything, from crew management to navigation realism, which means it works whether you want a more relaxed experience or something closer to full simulation. That flexibility alone gives it a…

i couldn't even complete the tutorial, i got soft locked TWICE. the submarine either got stuck on the base wall or in shallow waters. it's impossible to fix it without rolling back a save. i gave up, that's ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ ridiculous. also the german voice lines seem like they are made by a TTS engine. trash game

First of all, THIS IS A GOOD GAME! But because steam only allows yes or no, I need to make it negative for now. The game is bit "arcadey" if you are coming from the silent hunter world, and that might bother you for a while. But that passes and the simulation is quite good. If you are into WW2 subsims, this game is an easy yes. But what makes it thumbs down for now? THE BUGS! UI dissapears and you need to restart, buttons wont do anything, stuttering and clanking. I've read that it was worse…

This is a good game! The uboat is very detailed and interesting machinery. This is one of those games that require something from the player, It's not a point and click and enemy dies. You must correctly identify targets, do measurements and calculations and settings to make the torpedoes hit targets. I like that. You also need to understand intercept angles and basic navigation to find a target in the first place. I can understand that this is too much for the casual gamer, but having a…

It seems that I am not the only one that cannot get past the training portion of this game. The game won't let me move forward unless I complete it and I can't complete it. No matter what I do, it does not say I completed the mission. I searched on google how to resolve this, I even put in a refund request. They said that bc I played more than 2 hours, I am out of luck. Yeah, I played those 2 hour bc I thought I was doing something wrong. I kept trying and it wouldn't work. This game is trash.…

If you're looking for the ultimate U-boat experience, this is it. The base game is already solid, but the modding community has turned it into a masterpiece for 2026. Why it’s awesome: The Mods: Using Uboat Expanded and Sinking Physics changes everything. Ships don't just "sink"; they list and break apart realistically. The Vibe: It’s incredibly atmospheric. Between the sound of the creaking hull and the high-res textures, you really feel like you’re trapped in an iron coffin. Total…

Personally, I really like and enjoy playing the game, but: 1. I feel like there is room for improvement, especially in the SFX department. For example, the sound of the electric rudder swinging from side to side could be improved, similar to Silent Hunter 3. The sound of the 88 mm deck gun could also use a rework — maybe make it sound more like in Silent Hunter 3, because in my opinion that game is the gold standard of how a WWII U-boat game should sound. 2. There is no proper crash dive…

Love the game but have 1 recommendation to add to the realism. We should allow for enlisted to receive medals and add the medals Black, Silver, Gold wound badges for when the sailors are injured. But all together a great game 10/10.

UBOAT is an intriguing, fun and realistic take on submarine warfare during World War Two. Although the 2026 update has created several new bugs, the small dev team has released several patches within the past 2-3 days as of this review. Overall it is a fun game for history/submarine enthusiasts

U-Boat is sort of a game with a semi-identity crisis. It began as more of a crew management simulator but has slowly gone in the direction of a subsim. Which, imo, is a good thing. I prefer to be a UBoat captain than manage people eating on a UBoat. Pros 1. Good graphics and lighting. Pro tip - turn HDR off. It looks better, at least to me. 2. Interesting missions variety. Its not all just patrol and sink ships. There's some different things to do, which can break up the monotony. 3. Crew…

This is one of the rare times that a game has been so great that i've purchased a completely optional supporter DLC. This game is fantastic for its price, especially on sale. Would recommend. Was fun learning how torpedo math worked. Haven't even gotten to 1941 yet. Being hunted is fun. Port raids are even more fun. The only gripe I've had is hopefully we can increase the amount of crew members in the future to closely resemble real life crew numbers which were closer to 50, and that the…

Very buggy and no reaction from the devs.... I suspect the game has been abandoned. Refund requested!

Poorly designed interface with overlapping and contradictory layers that is utterly counterintuitive. That isn't a good start. Then you hit the bugs. Dear Lord, the bugs... I bought this game when it came out and it wasn't very good. I thought, "Well, it's undercooked. I'll give it some time." I came back to it four years (!) later, and it's still a janky, directionless, frustrating mess. Just go play the modded versions of any of the SH titles and you'll have a far better experience.

I know a lot of people are requesting a Type XXI Uboat, but honestly, I think it's kind of a stretch (considering they weren't deployed until the very end of the war and never scored a sinking) but I would KILL for a Balao or Gato-class Pacific DLC campaign. The US submarines of WW2 are unsung in the subsim sphere.

Absolutely enjoyed this game but the latest update and DLC have ruined it. I enjoy the new sub but now they're game breaking bugs that never existed before, for example after completing the first distant coasts mission it's impossible to progress because there is a game breaking bug which gets you stuck in port unable to select any menus or leave port.
