I love old-school adventures. I'm a kid of the 80's and grew up with LucasArts, Sierra-Online etc. This game seemed to have the potential to bring back that kind of entertainment... but it didn't. The story is OK... the solutions to the riddles are at times confusing... but what really sucked was when I simply could not continue to play the game, because I appearently had done something I wasn't "supposed" to do. …

Overall I've spent good time solving it. Nice pixel graphic, good length of the story and amount of puzzles. I managed to complete it in less than 8 hours. BottomLine at the Top: A good title that could have been a great one if not for some unforced errors. Still, def worth playing for all the 80's kids and P&C afficionados. Intro: Ahhh the 80's in the US of A. What a great time to be alive... 'cept for, ya know, anyone poor or belonging to any kind of minority group and what have you. Overlooking them though (as was done in the 80's) you had great music, style, movies, and of course the briefest of opportunities to catch the now extinct…

Pretty nice game, the atmosphere is similar to one of the awesome Netflix series - Stranger Things. The spirit of adventure, mysticism, conspiracy theories, funny dialogues of geek friends and very cozy pixel graphics are what this short game offers me. I loved it from the very first minutes. I had a hard time deciding if I would recommend the game. To be honest, it is a nice game, but nothing more. + I like the nostalgia, pixel art and voice acting + the idea seems interesting - I feel like the story would've had more potential that hasn't been used. - I missed half of the "optional" puzzles, no idea where the other half was. - the controls (in the inventory and using the 3 actions provided) feel bulky and lack context in many cases. - the puzzles themselves are mostly pretty…

It's ok, but suffers from the plague that is thinking that making ton of nostalgic references makes a game (or any piece of media) interesting. It has its fun moments, but "Secret of Moneky Island" this is not.

This felt like the perfect game for me, I've been playing point and click games since the early Lucasarts games, and the overall vibe to this (with the 80s references) - I went into this feeling very optimistic. But I really struggled with it. Firstly the puzzles felt really intuitive and abstract - there is a lack of direction in the game, so you're never really 100% what your'e supposed to be doing. That's excarbated if you step away from the game for any amount of time... Hob's Barrow is an…

The game starts as an exciting adventure but it ends up being very frustrating. There're many puzzles that just aren't intuitive. If you missed an item (such as the camera because you couldn't differentiate a box from a wall, or the Geiger counter because you left the room and didn't even think of coming back because why would you) for some reason, you could spend hours searching for a clue on where to go next or how to get another item that you've already figured out how to use but cannot grab…

I'm gonna get straight to the point. When I first played through this game and it introduced us to the map system, I was excited by all the possible locations I could visit, interacting with different characters and getting many '80s references. Then the puzzles and tasks I needed to do started piling up, that I started getting confused about what items I needed and what I needed to do to solve them. Something, like a notepad, would have been useful to keep track of all the quests I needed to…

I wanted to like it, but it seems so unpolished. And the puzzles aren't fun. It just seems like it needed to cook a lot longer. It feels hollow and empty, with a nice 80's Stranger Things aesthetic. Lots of potential, but I think it needs a rewrite. It's an almost recommend, but I'm just not having fun playing it for a few different reasons.

This game is very nice aesthetically and tries to capture a retro feel but has a lot of issues under the hood once you really start playing it. The most noticeable is the amazingly poor English localization - There are lots of typos, weird grammatical errors, and a lot of strange and clunky dialogue. It's very obvious the writers didn't have English as their first language and no one on the team had enough knowledge to edit and fix the script. Considering the production value they put in other…

An attempt at creating a game of the era long gone, which succeeds to some extent. The style is on point, and the humor matches the vibe (namely, is unfunny), but the so-so writing and uninspiring puzzles overshadows the positives. If you tried and liked the more modern takes on point-and-click adventures, you wouldn't enjoy "Unusual Findings."

I thought it had potential at first, but it flopped big time. It just felt like a "Stranger Things" ripoff (the title of the game, the sci-fi, the kids) . You (the human race) join the good alien forces to defeat the bad aliens for no reason. The story was weak, the characters didn't have any memorable personalities and the dialog was so boring that I ended up eventually skipping it. It was full with references from the 80's and it was a huge focus of the game since it couldn't offer anything…

There were a lot of things I really liked about this game: the art style is spot-on, the music gives great 80s vibes, the characters are (for the most part) entertaining, the story is fun and compelling. Honestly, the way it looked is one of the main reasons I bought it. I would also like to say that I am a big fan of puzzle games, and I like to think. Attempt to make a game 80s style, similar to Monkey Island or Maniac Mansion. Plenty of retro references. But the humor fall flat, the puzzles are not interesting and the 'multiple choices' are actually still very linear and lock you out of other ways to solve the puzzle. Not enough creativity, also not in the dialog. In essence, you have 4 'scenes' in which you just run around the various screens and just pick up whatever you can until you cannot pick anything up anymore. Then you exhaust…

This is a borderline recommendation. Whilst it's not a bad game, I was really hoping for something to bring back the nostalgia of the old Lucas Arts games, but this falls a long way short and lacks both the charm and polish of those games. There are 3 endings, but I wasn't impressed enough to be bothered to re-play. I'd give it 5/10

Unusual Findings definitely provides a nostalgic 80s feel; reminding me of films like The Goonies (with slightly more violence and minor gore). The characters are well fleshed out and the scenarios around the town centre felt well thought out. It felt like a proper town you were exploring, with some pretty funny interactions. The alien elements to it really reminded me of a 80s film, with the 3 kids trying to defeat an enemy more/less on their own. I did enjoy the fact that the 3 kids were not…

Awesome game with awesome music that brings back a lot of memories and nostalgia. Its price is fair for what it offers. Its story is very interesting and the protagonists are quite funny and memorable, although we could have learned a few more things about some of the NPCs. The puzzles are quite easy, but at least they are not of a childish difficulty. It's obviously a product of hard work and affection. Great job, developers! Really fun game. Loved it. Theme: A genuine love letter to the 80s. The music and pop culture references are everywhere and they're a blast. The story is basically a mashup of popular 80s movies — nothing groundbreaking, but it doesn't need to be for a casual game like this. The three main characters really carry it; I got attached to them quickly. Gameplay: The puzzles are well designed. If you’re into Stranger Things or The Goonies, this one is right up your alley. Fans of 80s movies or relics of the past like me who also love point-and-click adventure games should definitely give it a try. Unusual Findings is fine. The best part of the game is the music, which is a nice synthwave nod to our memories of the 1980s. Unfortunately most of the other nostalgia attempts didn't land for me. A lot of the game is spent dropping mangled and mispronounced references to the most well-known games, movies, shows and bands from the decade. It feels like a "Remember the 80s" TV special, which superficially touches on all the big hits but never really feels like an authentic depiction of the era.…

I've beaten the game, it does have multiple endings, but I won't go for that. Overall impression is very good. The game makes a great reverence to everything 80s, mostly movies, some music too and few video games. Be aware the the seemingly unimportant choices you make during the start of the game affect the options you get later, for example one of my characters destroyed an item I thought I needed to complete a task, but there was another way. For a few wonderful hours I was transported back into the 80s, as a kid. Unusual Findings is a point-and-click love letter to the 80s that demonstrates the talented developers of Darkestville Castle are continuing to improve their craft. The narrative is excellent, the puzzles straddle the line between the obtuse and the obvious, and the licensed music does a fantastic job of setting the mood. The amount of content is a great value for even full price, and yet I am left wanting more. Epic…

An excellent point and click adventure in retro pixel style with a range in difficulty of puzzles. Highly recommended to anyone who enjoyed Monkey Island, Kings Quest, Day of the Tentacle, etc.

SUMMARY Coasting on nostalgia, just to merely get by. While I had an enjoyable enough time with this game, the biggest appeal of it is far from the gameplay. The puzzles are mismanaged significantly throughout. It's also not because of the "retro vibe", which is primarily aesthetic and carries very little significance throughout, more of being a stylistic theme than something built into the fabric of the game. No, what is truly fun about this game is the interactions between the three friends,…

The following review is based on my full purchase (no freebies, discounts or special treatment/incentives) of Unusual Findings. I'm a long time point-&-click fan. I've played most, if not all of the greats over the course of my 35 years as a gamer (I'm now in my 50s). I have to say that this game stuck me as one of the best! Literally up there with Zak McKracken, Monkey Island, Indiana Jones and many others. I lived the 80s and they got the nostalgia just right. The puzzles and overall…

I absolutely loved this game. Just got literal goosebumps watching the outros but I won't say anything spoiler related. This is an old school point and click full of nostalgia for my favourite ever decade, the 80s. The puzzles are plenty challenging, the humour is right up my street, the friendship between the three main characters makes you feel like you are living through The Goonies or something like that. The creators of the game have the same love for simpler times of fun, freedom and…

If you had a minor degree of disappointment with the latest Monkey Island game as I did, let me tell you that this game will help scratch that itch. The best feature presented here is that the puzzles will have different solutions depending on some dialogue choices, and it even has 3 different endings. Try it out!

Was one of the original backers. And they delivered on time! Game is good. I'm generally not a fan of pixel art games (but still way better than 3D) but I like the graphics in this. It has a very Thimbleweed park graphics style about it. I love the background music too. While there's not a huge diversity of tracks - they are amazing and I would love to be able to download them or stream them to listen to while working - they're very catchy! I liked the story line. There characters are…

The 80s, distilled into video game format In a nutshell: Not just a love letter, but an all out audio visual nostalgic 80s themed orgy. If you grew up playing adventure games in the late 80s, you’ll probably love it. Everyone else might feel a bit left out. See the full review here: https://youtu.be/g4f4gahTF4U Things I liked: Wonderful pixel graphics that somehow manage to be both entirely derivative, and also unique Fully voice acted, mostly great, at times awkward Actually challenging…
