What players are saying
Counted from the reviewers’ own thumbs up/down on the 230 English Steam reviews we collected, not by the AI. Valve’s all-language rating: Mixed (336 of 549 positive).
Many players see great potential in Valorborn, comparing it to Kenshi. [1][2][3] Some reviewers warn the game is too buggy and unfinished for early access. [4][5][6] Several posters advise waiting for updates before buying. [7][4][8]

At time of writing I can understand the mixed reviews. I wish I had a mixed button I could hit but instead I have to give it thumbs down specifically because personally I don’t think it’s currently worth it. HOWEVER I don’t think you should just gloss over this and ignore it. I think it should be added to wishlist and kept an eye on. There is a huge amount of potential for this game to become something better than …

I can tolerate small bugs and all i love Kenshi. BUT THE SAVING IS BROKEN I REPEAT THE SAVING IS BROKEN!!!! You'll build stuff. Trade stuff. Collect stuff. Save hop off then load in to see structures you've already built are no longer constructed and still requiring resources you've already gathered. Seriously i get its EA but if you're gonna put your game out there make sure your fking save system works. No good …

This game is an absolute gem! A lot of the negative reviews compare it to the current state of Kenshi, but it’s clear those people never played the original release. Back then, it didn’t even have sound and was limited to a small desert area. That said, we all saw the potential it had and I feel the same way about this game. It’s a rough diamond that just needs some polish. So far, I’m having a blast. I’ve taken …

This is a kenshi like game. If you like kenshi, you will like this game. Currently as it is, it has bugs. If you want a more complete game, I’d suggest wish listing and waiting 6 months. If you want to be part of helping to create a new kenshi like game by playing it now and helping with bug testing, it’s worth buying. This is a squad based game where the world doesnt care about you and you are not the hero. Enemies …

As a big Kenshi fan and someone who played Kenshi when IT was in Alpha, this was a must-try for me. And while I do admit, it is still clearly in a early stage of development, I also can't deny it has incredible potential to be just as addicting and fun to play as Kenshi is. In fact, the bugs and under-development features missing remind me exactly of the first time I played Kenshi in Alpha and I couldn't be happier. …
Summarised from 34 of the 246 public posts collected about this game; every point cites the posts behind it ([n] opens the post) and the split is counted from the posts’ own ratings. Updated Oct 13, 2026. How summaries are made
57% of the 230 Steam reviewers we collected recommend Valorborn. The complaint that keeps coming up: saving system is broken, losing progress. Deal-breaker or nitpick?

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →While this certainly does want to be like Kenshi, it is far from even mimicking a game that came out a decade ago. Aggro is the most random thing. I came into town straight after the tutorial (having loaded up my backpack with stuff from the slaver's chests) and immediately got my head caved in by guards crying about stolen goods... How do they know they were stolen? There's plenty of things that even in 60 minutes were enough to irk me, so I will be refunding after writing this review.…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →You're not being sold medieval Kenshi, you're being sold the idea of it, There is no game here. You enter an open world with the most nothing I've ever seen, long roads that go to invisible walls in the middle of nowhere, towns with a couple merchants sprinkled between dead pan NPCS, a single bandit camp with 9 bandits and a quest that requires 10. (You'll wander the next two hours and not find a 10th) It's just a scam marketed at a player base desperate for something new. This shovelware…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →When, within the first twenty minutes of gameplay, the tutorial is telling me to issue work commands to characters and that mechanic simply does not work, you are telling me that your game was not ready for a public facing test. Seriously, the tutorial is not even functional. Maybe the devs should have spent less money on the copious sponsored content-creator videos I'm seeing everywhere and a little more on getting their game ready for even the most basic EA launch.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This COULD be a great game, rn it is very unpolished, map markers disappearing, characters not attacking, glitches with building and going between floors, disappearing items, broken dialogue, worn clothing having wrong appearance, crafting times making no sense such as taking a few hours to cook a piece of meat but less time to tan leather. I will wait to play more after a few updates as it is painful to do so now.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →TL;DR : I hope this game eventually turns out to be great, because that would mean I didn't waste my money. It's absolutely not even remotely close to a good game though, and you should wait until it is (it won't ever be) ======================================================================================== Quoted: "We will keep working on it and improving it as long as we can provide for our families & have the chance to go at least once a year on vacation. 😂🫡" This game will be 100%…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Valorborn should not have reached Early Access yet. At this stage, the game feels extremely raw and unfinished. It is often compared to Kenshi, but honestly, it is nowhere near that level in terms of depth, systems, or usability. The biggest issue for me is the lack of proper automation. Workbenches do not seem to support automated production queues, such as “craft until I have 10 items.” Resource gathering also feels very clunky: you can only gather in a selected area, around the character’s…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Quickest refund in a long time. This game is not even in early access shape. This is like a pre alpha. Only positive is that for an Unreal Engine 5 game it runs well. At least in the brief time I played. The forced stealth part of the tutorial is worth mentioning on just how bad it is. If you fail you are forced into a loading screen and you have to restart that part of the tutorial. Don't put forced stealth stuff in a tutorial. The interface is a mess.…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game is **FAR** from finished. There is like an hour of content, gated behind a walking simualtor because mobs are very spread out. The crafting system is wonky, and buggy as hell. They have released a couple "fixes" that fix one thing but then break something else. They have not done anything meaningful to the game in almost a month. No new content, no fixing of major issues. The main one is you can drag stuff that stacks out of a merchants inventory, and put it on a matching stack in…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →any kenshi concept is gonna be a siren song to kenshi players. dont ruin your opinion on this game. wait 6 months. this isnt early release ready. u cant split stacks when selling to a merchant. otherwise it crashes. dont drop items on the ground. they will fall into the center of the earth. dont try to walk from point a to point b. your pathing will lead u to glittch into a wall. i have an extreme resilience for game jank but this is no where near an early release. basically this is…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is in early access, for sure. But I have to give it so much credit: If you like games like Kenshi, RimWorld, this game has great bones. And as someone who's a huge Kenshi fan, I'm impressed this small dev studio managed to get a kenshi like game on unreal engine... while Lowfi games continues to make us wait indefinitely for Kenshi 2. Now let's talk about the game: 1. The tutorial is a little weird. 2. The game has some bugs. 3. Its definitely early access. BUT: I think this will…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is still a concept. There is literally something wrong with every single aspect of this game. I would write out a list, but it would be easier to count the things that aren't wrong with it. Which is again just the concept. I love kenshi love the idea. Come back with something more then the skeleton of 1 arm of a game, and i'll be here for it.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is so buggy it is unbelievable. The concept is actually actually really cool but the game needs to be worked on more. Your items will glitch and disappear, Characters have trouble using stations or picking up items, the game crashes constantly making things disappear. It is not worth it at all right now until they can actually work on fixing many of the issues.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If you're looking to purchase this game and undecided. I would say wait for a couple of updates and come back to see how the team has handled it. In it's current state this game is not even ready for Early Access. The tutorial broke on me in 3 different separate playthroughs. Later I found you can skip it but I spent most of my time just fighting the tutorial. Which you would think would be the one thing they have completed, since you know, it is the first thing you do in the game.…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Here's my review of the game: it's terrible and a waste of money. When you're creating your character, it seems like they have trouble standing upright. The running mechanic feels completely artificial and very strange. It also gives the impression that all the male characters are wearing eye makeup, and this can't be changed. The crouching mechanic is completely bugged; I ended up decimating an entire camp by assassinating one NPC after another. The perception system also needs improvement.…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Based on solid idea. But literally unplayable right now. So many bugs. Game breaking bugs.... Soul crushing bugs. For example you clear out a bandit camp for a quest, but the quest won't update itself after you kill everyone. It just get stuck. Any many more like these... Note for devs: Please work more on the building details. A furnace should be smoking out of the chimney and not closed out with stone.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game shows great promise. Gives me Runescape vibes. Never played kenshi, like a lot of other people are reffering to so i don't know about that. But the game is way too far away from being finished. There are so many bugs and glitches that it's unplayable. And it's pretty important things that your gameplay lacks. Cons: My experience was that using the workshop the materials gets consumed but there is no product. and it takes a long time for each item to be crafted and when the product…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →9/13/2026 Honestly had hoped that the game would be better at this point but ALL of the blatantly obvious bugs are still an issue and not fixed. when inventory is open and you switch to another person the inventory does not change to the new person. Many chests are broken (in the starting area at that) and cannot be interacted with. Fighting is still broken and your people sometimes just stand there and don't attack while they die. One of the starter area traders locks the game up when leaving…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A buggy mess. Items keep disappearing. The smelter can't be accessed unless it is built on a slope (the foundation gets in the way). So why do I give a positive review? It looks promising, it can become a good game. But bug-fixes should be the top priority for the next 6 months, no more content before what you already have got is functional. I will leave now, and check back in 6 months time. This game needs a lot of work, but it is based on a sound idea.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →While this is exactly the type of game I want, it was released far too early. poor UI, camera gets stuck, even in tutorial. The devs also only have one game before hand, and reviews say it was abandoned, gonna refund for now and check back in 3-10 years, maybe kenshi 2 will be out by then.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →(Quick Edit: After thinking about it for a bit, and then being reminded when looking on the steam page, them charging $25 for this mess is kind of insane, and pushes me even further on the not recommended side of things. It's an absolute MESS for that price and is absolutely not worth $25 at the moment. Charging $5 less than its near-perfectly realized father, Kenshi, is insane and the devs should be ashamed.) I'm 50/50 between recommend and not recommend. I wish there was a mixed option. I…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game is not in a ready state for release yet. Buying it now will give you a negative opinion on the project. Once all issues with save corruption, settings not saving, and other core systems not working/not working as intended have been dealt with, it can be worth a look. Otherwise it's a coin toss of whether or not you'll be working around pretty nasty bugs or if you'll get a relatively smooth experience. The game itself is very bare bones at the moment. There are very limited combat…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I believe this game will stay just where it is, someone said good potential. Feels already abandoned. This was my last Early Access Game I will ever buy. Do not recommend in this state.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I desperately want to like this game as a Kenshi fan, but it's just way too buggy. I know it's early access, but even core functionalities break, like not being able to click on and open chests, or not being able to place constructions or click on them to start building (this happens randomly, it might work for a while, then just randomly completely break).
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Look - do you want medieval Kenshi or not? It's a math question, not a 'this game is not great right now' question. Kenshi had a LOT of issues early on too. I want it to work. You want it to work. The man does not work for free. Pay now and ensure he has more financial runway to make it work. You would have wasted the money anyway. Consider it an investment. Risky? All investments are gambles. But this gamble has a high payoff potential. Medieval Kenshi. Be an investor.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →In it's current state I can't recommend the game. Constant lag spikes as chunks are being loaded not to mention I couldnt complete the tutorial as the button to repair the boat was clickable but did nothing. I did start a tutorial free game afterwards but honestly the open world feels a bit barren fauna and danger wise. And there is no option to lockpick cages from the inside if you are captive, forcing you to wait out the real time punishment, to which the speed up option really doesnt feel to…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A lot of people are going to compare this to Kenshi and with good reason. Any "Kensh-like" game is a welcome addition to me and while the game still feels very early access in a lot of aspects of the game, it is a great foundation for a game that still needs more time to cook before I think it is truly a great game, but they are heading in the right direction. If you are on the fence, play the demo to get a feel for the game yourself. If you want to support a super dedicated developer who…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Way to expensive for what it is, needs a lot more testing before I'd even look at this again. There's a money dupe discovered already day 1 lol. And I built a building in my camp then placed another to be built and it made the building already built go back to needing to be built again. Too many basic bugs that they should've paid a team to test before launching. Sorry but I'm not paying 35CAD to test your game. Hope you can pull it off, always wanted a Kenshi medieval but unfortunately I don't…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →so i spent some time playing this game and i have put a substantial amount of time into kenshi that other people compare this to. for those considering buying this game, yes it does show promise in being a good game but as of right now i can't recommend it. the game has too many issues that need to to be dealt with first such as structures that you have built like a storage chest may not be there after you finish construction. i unlocked a 3rd playable character, Orrin, to help with…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The bones are already Solid. I have not had any crashes/freezes. It plays well on my PC. The only issues I have had are already being worked on by Devs(listed on Dev roadmap) or reported to them. It is in very early development so don't expect AAA polished complete game at this time. If you understand that and want to help the developers then worth it. If not but are interested wishlist and check back later. Much of the negative reviews and feedback I have seen seem to be people expecting it to…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Let them cook. I've read many reviews thus far of how this game isn't ready for early access and so I wanted to bring a counter point. Making videogames is hard. Especially games like these. There is a reason why there are no games truly like kenshi and i fully believe that had anyone pitched a game like kenshi before it existed, they would have gotten laughed at. Games like these are extremely complex and take a lot of time to build. Major respects to the team working on this for tackling…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Heard soo much about it, how it is the new Kenshi or whatever. No where near close.. Its expected from a new game have some issues yet some of them are borderline silly. Bannerlord and Cyberpunk was also horrible on release but they quickly get back up, couldnt see same here. Half of the item descriptions are just filler text, couple never loading icons of items, researched clothes are not appearing on tailoring workbench, some faction names are still have fillers. positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game shows GREAT promise, and it is a very cool concept in general. Unfortunately, this is greatly overshadowed by the fact that this game was NOT ready... not even for early access. It needed a bit more time to cook first, period. There is just too much jank still. Sadly, in todays day and age, Early access is not an excuse for bad mechanics/controls. Hopefully when I eventually remember this game exists it will be in the state it SHOULD have been in before it released.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The 8 hour workday review - Yes i recommend to patient people who are experienced in early access... I do recommend this game if you are willing to go through the development process with the Devs. This game as a whole is not yet ready for the masses to play. I think the amount of bugs will turn people off and cause them to refund within the first 2 hours. However, if you like these types of games and you are experienced with early access titles and your expectations are centered…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Pretty buggy at the moment, but, very promising! The core it's there and i'm sure the devs listen to the community! Some gameplay on the channel: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UwIDcOwoptg
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I think they are going in the right direction, as someone who enjoys Kenshi - but this is literally a Pre-EA (0.1d) as of writing this at "launch day". I highly suggest people wait with buying it for a later stage unless you really want to help fund these types of games.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If I wanted tedious slow gameplay I would just play Kenshi, great trailer though. The bandit camp you clear just respawns bandits after game-save/some time in game. Every crafting technique from smithing, woodwork, to leather is cumbersome, UI management isn't what I was expecting going into this.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game is interesting, but consider there is a big diference between early access (alpha or similar versions) to a full game, already balanced. This game is still lacking in several aspects, and of course is not polished. If you can endure being part of a game in the making then go ahead, you may enjoy it for sure. If you're expecting a complete game, wait until it's finished. It's only your own fault if you purchase it while Early Access and you then complain or leave a negative review for…

If i was to make a game on a friday 30 min before clocking out, it would look a lot like this. I'd rather break a toe on the corner of a table everyday than play this in the state that it is ! i can't believe people are comparing it to Kenshi, it's not even close. Do yourself a favor and place this one on a shelf for an other 2 years. Also way overpriced for what…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →As a big Kenshi fan, I really want to like Valorborn. Unfortunately it's just not ready for release, even in early access. This type of 'sandbox' game really lives or dies on how good the simulation is, and at the moment all the NPCs appear to be completely scripted? Most NPCs in towns are nameless filler that don't interact with the player, their town, or the people in it - all they do is walk up and down the street all day. The NPCs you can interact with stand motionless on the spot with…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game is all jank. Two questions for the devs 1 Why are the forearms on backwards? 2. Why are the necks coming out of the characters chest? You really do not care and are putting out junk to make a buck. So return. Shame on you.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Despite being early state of development, this game shows great potential! Great for anyone looking for a new Kenshi-like game, and looking forward to seing how this game develops further! Keep going!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →For a couple months I waited somewhat impatiently for Valorborn to release so I could play it. The demo showed promise. I love Kenshi, and Valorborn seems, mechanically (from the user standpoint), a lot like Kenshi, though beyond controls, combat, base building, and possibly crafting, it shares nothing with Kenshi that makes Kenshi incredible. There's a lot of QoL that needs to be addressed. I'm not even getting into the bugs. Those are to be expected in a game this early in development -- and…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →There is an unfair comparison to Kenshi among the community in my opinion even though they are similarly styled games. You have to remember this is a pre-alpha early access game. It is going to be rough around the edges and have a few bugs. But at this point as I put about 10hrs into this game I can say that for now, that is all it's worth. Some of the quest completion conditions don't trigger. Traders will at time have no items in their inventory. You can reset your hunger meter by reloading…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It needs time to cook. It's just not ready. I ran into so many problems just in the tutorial that were irritated me right out of the gate I just refunded it. I'll come back to it again later after I see some updates. It reminds me of Kenshi in SO MANY good ways too. I was hopeful it would at least be playable. The biggest problem I have with this game is the basic game mechanics bug out easily. Cooking, setting auto gathering were my two big ones.

And it did catch the vibe, imo... I did the tutorial, walked into the first town, tried to kill a guard, and immediately Alt+F4’d like a pro. Total playtime: 35 minutes. Haven’t built anything, haven’t recruited anyone (Beside Jon ofc), but I’ve felt the soul of the game. It’s still super janky and needs a lot of work, but…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Definitely early access, but its a lot of fun. I had 3 crashes in 41 hours of gameplay. Save/load does some strange things, but it seems like it re-rolls some of the environment(NPCs, resources, monsters/animals), which is pretty cool, even if it isn't intended. The combat is pretty cool, but I finally got my team with some really good gear, and they can jump on a group of bandits and win, but I have now finished the early access location, unless I'm missing something. After the tutorial area,…
