Many players praise the game as a nostalgic childhood favorite with epic combat and large battles. [1][2][3] Some reviewers note technical issues like a 30 fps cap and compatibility problems on modern systems. [4][5][6] A few players criticize the game for being repetitive, having a weak story, and poor PC port quality. [7][8][9]

The game seemed fun enough at first, While the story and gameplay didn't seem to be anything super award winning, it was good enough. But then came the problems with it being a PC port. PC optimization is lacking and the worst issue of all - the save file became corrupted. And instead of letting you manually save, it just turns off saving all together. There is no menu option to manually save or even turn saving …

TLDR - you won't miss out on anything at all if you skip this game altogether. Save your time, play some better game. Despite what you might've read in other reviews and community discussions, 30 FPS lock is nowhere near the biggest problem this game has. The game has pretty much nothing in terms of a story, with the ending that feels like the one out of some other, completely different game. While the game itself …

Yes the game is capped at 30 fps. Yes the game is clunky as a shopping cart with a broken wheel. Yes the game is outdated but I don't care this game has held a special place in my heart ever since I first played it on the xbox 360 all the way back in 2008 and it always will.

18 yrs ago i used to play this game with my buddy like crazy on my or his xbox 360 when we were stoned. such a lovely game and besides some sound issues it still plays well on modern hardware and is still fun. i mean the fighting mechanics work better than in AC valhalla. i love the lil things in viking e.g. when your troops randomly start to practice sword fighting and wrestle. the old games have so much soul which …

This is yet another GEM. This game deserves NO hate. It is damn near perfect! I wish it had visual changes happen to the sword the 2 different times you enhance it and the story ending is kind of so so but those things aside, this is from the golden era of gaming (2004-2014) There is SO much to love! This is a good Litmus test to see whose opinion you can trust for game reviews; if someone doesn't admit this is gold …

66% of the 178 Steam reviewers we collected recommend Viking: Battle for Asgard. The complaint that keeps coming up: locked at 30 fps, which some find frustrating. Deal-breaker or nitpick?
Critics, per Wikipedia
The game received "mixed or average reviews" on all platforms according to the review aggregation website Metacritic. Wired gave the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions a score of seven stars out of ten, stating: "At some point, you realize that looking back at each of Viking's qualities, it's hard to really put your finger on anything that's truly standout—and yet it's compelling." Maxim gave the same console versions six out of ten and said that it was "fun, but smells like a rental". USA Today gave the same console versions a similar score of six stars out of ten and said it was "fine as an inexpensive rental for mature Microsoft Xbox 360 or Sony PlayStation 3 gamers interested in fantasy and…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Old, but gold. The graphics for this held up surprisingly well, and I love that I didn't have to struggle to make it work for my ultra wide monitor. I wish CA would make a game like this mixed with total war. Something like Kingdom Under Fire but less linear. Used loseless scaling to to remedy the 30fps lock. Catch on sale, unless you played this on the 360 and have no problem paying extra for a bit of nostalgia.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Viking: Battle for Asgard is a nostalgic game for me. I remember watching my Grandpa play it on the 360, and as a young kid who loved the world of large armies and battles, this game was so epic to me and left an impression on me even 10+ years later. Now I get to go back and experience the game for myself. The game has that 360 charm, the story is based on Norse Mythology, and the storyline is decent and interesting enough to follow. The capped frame rate at 32 FPS really sucks, but you get…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I initially skipped Viking: Battle for Asgard due to lukewarm reviews, but the price drop to $30 caught my eye. While it's not a groundbreaking experience, for that price, it offers a decent Viking-themed adventure. The story is fair to good - you explore islands, solve puzzles, and upgrade your gear. As a Viking history buff, I found it mildly engaging, but it does get repetitive. The same goes for the difficulty; the combat is easy to learn and features gory finishing moves (justifying the M…

neutral · AI labelView post →Sometimes I enjoy eating butter bread. This game is butter bread. It's open world, but there is nothing in the world which is also lifeless. Your objective is to liberate areas of the islands from the demonic horde, once you do this, the weather changes and humans will pour out of buildings. It's not a bad idea, it would of been nice to see people rebuilding damaged structures, maybe dismantle the giant bone cages you've just freed them from, but no. It's interesting to see the rise of…

I remember being addicted as a high schooler because it got super good. Definitely worth picking up if you enjoy hack and slash/army command type of games. The executions are my fav part. EDIT: Not sure why steam says this game has no controller support, playing it with my xbox controller just fine.
