Worms
Developer Team17 Digital Ltd
Worms is a 2D artillery tactical video game developed by Team17 and released in 1995. It is the first game in the Worms series of video games. It is a turn-based game where a player controls a team of worms against other teams of worms that are controlled by a computer or human opponent. The aim is to use various weapons to kill the worms on the other teams and have the last surviving worm(s). From Wikipedia (CC BY-SA 4.0)

What players are saying
Counted from the reviewers’ own thumbs up/down on the 166 English Steam reviews we collected, not by the AI. Valve’s all-language rating: Very Positive (588 of 707 positive).
Players praise the original Worms as a classic that started a beloved franchise. [1][2][3] Many note the game shows its age with clunky controls and outdated graphics. [3][4][5] Some reviewers find it hard to recommend due to technical issues on modern systems. [6][7][8]

Fun time, fun times. Highly recommended as a game but it's a nightmare to get working on modern machinery. I'd kind of expect steam to at least address that issue before making it available for purchase. It's pritty hit and miss, so if you get it, I'd recommend using your refund window wisely. For that reason I'd not recommend.

Look, we all know Worms and how good it is. Im not gonna lie, I wont be playing it again when theres better versions out there like Worms Armaggedon, but this is gaming history, so you and I need to have on our libraries. Runs flawlessly on DOSBox on modern systems.

Worms 1 is the primordial soup from which all wormy chaos evolved. Tiny pixel worms, turn-based carnage, and explosions that could crash your PC if too many pixels flew at once. Controls? Clunky. Aiming? Guesswork. UI? Ancient runes. But none of that mattered in the '90s—because back then, blowing up your friend with a poorly lobbed banana bomb was revolutionary. There’s barely any physics, maps are just weird …

I hadn't played the original Worms until this past month and I don't know how I ever missed out on this classic original. I think the first time I played a game from the Worms' franchise was around 2000 with Worms Armageddon on the Playstation 1. I've played a few of the others since then and I generally enjoy them, but this original - just simple fun. I'd say it is easily my favorite in the series just because of …

Where it all began. Despite it being quite an old game, it still plays well till this day. Plus the cutscenes are awesome to look back on.

Players who liked Worms talk about simple, addictive turn-based gameplay that holds up well; those who didn't talk about outdated graphics and controls feel rough by modern standards. Which matters more to you?
Critics, per Wikipedia
Worms was a commercial success. By March 1996, its sales had reached almost 250,000 copies, following its release in November 1995. Across all its ports, the game ultimately sold above 5 million units by 2006. Worms sharply divided critics. Reviewing the Saturn version, Sega Saturn Magazine especially praised Worms's unexpected complexity and the fun of multiplayer mode, and called it "quite simply the most playable game to hit the Saturn so far". Maximum commented that "Basically, Worms is Lemmings, but it's without the puzzles and with weapons instead." While firmly stating that they found the game dull and unappealing, they acknowledged that it was clearly well liked by gamers. Next…

neutral · AI labelView post →We'd like to thank you all from the bottom of our hearts not just for being receptive of Worms but what the game is meant to stand for. We've just updated the game to include a blank translation if you want to try your hand at bringing it to your own language.

This is the only 3D Worms game I haven't played, and it's definitely the least talked about of the four but it's very weird and very different. There's a lot of shit in this game I've been warned about so let's buckle in www.twitch.tv/bigyellowyt

P1 is the Lemmings P2 is Worms, P1 has to escape while P2 tried to destroy them all? Or a three player version where the Worms are also fighting each other/protecting lemmings.

I've owned WORMS United for as long as I can remember; it's older than I am. When the disk drive in my last computer literally blew the disk to smithereens, I made a new one, with a proper label, and the backup I used with DOSBox; I even printed a cover for it. When I saw it on Steam, I was ecstatic; I could finally buy a digital…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Works fine on Win10 for me, but really shows its age. The mouse feels laggy, the controls are stiff, the AI lands almost very shot, and the field of view is tiny. It was great at the time, but it's too hard to go back to now. A great bit of nostalgia, but better remembered with rose-tinted glasses.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →People really glance past Worms Blast when it's actually a really good game (even though it's not even slightly a worms game). Very fun interactive vs split screen. The character art is also likely a subconcious influence of mine XD
positive · AI labelView post →This game feels like opening a history book when looking back on the series. It is the one that started it all but even then I cannot recommend this one. It is slow, awkward to play and misses a lot the series later became popular for. Most of the fun comes from what the series turned into now rather than what it was but without this clunky experiment, we wouldn't have had the rest.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is a milestone of many people's childhood, however it's quite annoying to make it run properly on pc
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is a game from 1995 in a DOS emulator. There are newer much better Worms games now. You really shouldn't bother with this unless you're looking for a DOS game experience. Also maybe this is common to all DOS games, IDK, but if you minimize the game it will be stuck in 640x400 window mode afterwards. If you want to play Worms, you'd probably be better off just getting Worms Reloaded or something.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Instant Classic. How many hours were spent with my friends trying to kick each other's ass playing this madness on one PC! Awesome, genius, addictive.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is a big part of my childhood. It's exactly like the original but one thing which makes it unplayable for me. WHY did you change the voices? That's like the only reason to play it is the worms' voices.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Single player, and it is not particularly close. I am no good at twitch gaming, and honestly I play games for the story as much as the action. I really enjoyed Quake Arena back in the day because it was just frantic stupidity. But the last multiplayer game I really liked, was Worms Armageddon.

neutral · AI labelView post →I was curious to see what the beginning of the Worms series had to offer, but...isn't this game kinda fun? Sure, it's is pixelated as hell and nowhere near how the future entries in the franchise would end up looking. Low resolution and outdated graphics everywhere, slow menus, and a very simple arsenal. But besides that, everything works just fine. The art direction is great, the gameplay is simple but addictive, and the action has that real "oomph" of impact. Probably a product of its time,…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →As much as I like Worms, I cannot in good faith recommend this game. It has nothing to do with the game as the game, to this day, is still phenomenal. The only reason why I cannot recommend this game is because it does not play well with modern hardware and control schemes. You cannot rebind (not without third party tools like Steam), you cannot scale the screen, you cannot exit full screen, you cannot change resolution, you cannot invite others to play remote play correctly (pretty essential…
