Wreckfest
Developer Bugbear
Wreckfest is a racing video game developed by Bugbear Entertainment and published by THQ Nordic. Wreckfest is described as the spiritual successor to the FlatOut series, which was created by Bugbear, and takes further inspiration from the Destruction Derby series and the cult 1989 racer Street Rod. A notable feature of the game engine is the use of soft-body damage modelling, which enables location-based damage that… From Wikipedia (CC BY-SA 4.0)

What players are saying
Counted from the reviewers’ own thumbs up/down on the 244 English Steam reviews we collected, not by the AI. Valve’s all-language rating: Very Positive (36,669 of 41,683 positive).
Players praise the destruction physics and satisfying crashes. [1][2][3] Many complain the AI is frustrating and ruins races. [1][4][5] Some note technical issues like bugs and poor music mixing. [1][6][7]

This has to be the most annoying POS ive ever had the displeasure of playing. the ai drivers will have u restarting the same race 10 times over cause they keep spinning u out when they're behind u and another will total your car by ramming u at 100+ k/hr. half the races end with me just avoiding the wrecked opponents because they all drove like idiots and wrecked and im the only car left for the last 2 to 4 laps. …

It's a fun, but a bit flawed game. Good: - The destruction physics is great. - Driving feels good. - Plenty of nice levels and cars. Bad: - The AI is a cheating griefer. It can get quite frustrating. It's designed more to make your life miserable instead of being fun to play against and there is no way to tweak it. - Buggy. Kept getting a black screen and "ValidateHardwareSettings" when trying to run it. Had to find …

This game never gets old. Every race is complete chaos, the crashes are satisfying, and the driving feels surprisingly good. If you like arcade racing games, Wreckfest is an easy recommendation.

one of the best racing games available for the PC, if not anywhere. very recommended for fans of simcade racers, not just derby. the destruction effects are obviously celebrated and awesome, but the HANDLING is really, really nice. the cars have weight and bounce, when you come out of a turn too fast there are those moments of "I'd better relax the throttle or I'm spinning out". absolutely some of my favorite …

Most of my complaints are of stuff surrounding the core gameplay. The career mode is serviceable at best, the presentation is a little sterile, repetition of tracks near the end of the career gets frustrating especially when many are visually very familiar. Also, worst mini-map in a hot minute lmao But the core gameplay is bang-on. Smacking opponents around gives me the same giddy feeling I get when I do takedowns …

80% of the 244 Steam reviewers we collected recommend Wreckfest. The complaint that keeps coming up: aI is frustrating and cheats. Deal-breaker or nitpick?
Critics, per Wikipedia

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →- Anti consumer EULA agreement. You basically have no rights. - Devs have abandoned the game for Wreckfest 2, which is a lazy cash grab. The 2nd game is just a copy paste of the first with very minor changes. Wreckfest 2 should've been a paid DLC for the 1st one. - My PC far exceeds the requirements to run this game at max settings, but it still has performance bugs which means I have to lower the graphical settings to make it run well.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The racing clashes with the demolition. There's no incentive to go on the attack when the game is scored off position. Some of the bonus targets (+XP) require dealing damage but that slows you down too much. The only carnage is at the crossroads and losing several positions after getting randomly T-boned isn't particularly fun. Graphics are alright if you can ignore the pop in. Controls fall apart without the assists. The soundtrack you can't even hear without cranking the engine audio down to…

neutral · AI labelView post →I want to delete this game every day, absolutely every day !!!! There is only one reason for this: - it's the AI of the opponents !!!! It doesn't matter what kind of racing and what difficulty, the scenario is as follows: one car goes so far that it can't be seen at all even over the horizon, and the other 22 don't care about the finish, they only have one goal - TO DESTROY YOU !!!! whoever invented this will have a separate cauldron in hell. And in everything else, this is the best game,…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game rewards you for driving dirty and ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ up other drivers cars and the tracks are designed for maximum carnage. Assetto Corsa's got nothing on this. You'll be barreling down the track at top speed and see cars on fire coming at you mid-air like missiles because the AI drivers are meth heads on a mission to destroy. The constant rivalry and hazard on top of all the customization options to the cars and playing modes make for one hell of a fun game.

They had a game where you could host in-game multiplayer and kept changing and moving things, putting new things in and taking old things out and finally settled on making it so damn hard to just simply play with your friends that it is frustrating beyond reason. You MUST pay to set up a server or be a tech wiz and reconfigure routers and game code or other crap that all sounds like greek b.s. for someone who doesn't do that on the daily. Why…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I spent 15 minutes tuning my suspension and gear ratios for the perfect lap. 3 seconds into the race, a school bus driving in the wrong direction hit me at Mach 2. My car is now the size of a toaster and my driver has probably been launched into a different zip code. 10/10 - Best structural engineering simulator ever made.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Since the CheatEngine dev is an asshole, there's an alternative I use instead: https://github.com/korcankaraokcu/PINCE Probably not exactly matching in feature parity but tbh I only use it to edit RAM values to get around MTX currencies or bad game design choices like Wreckfest locking all vehicles/parts behind a boring as sin uninspired single player grind when I only cared about multiplayer shenanigans.
neutral · AI labelView post →After a decade loving the Flatout series, I can confidently say that this is the acme, not only of the franchise, but of arcade racing in general. Fun, loud, as hard as you want to make it, great on a gamepad. I only wish it still had Sofia Martinez. You know I can't quit you, girl.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Great game even if you typically do not go for racing games. The damage modeling is great especially on realistic. There is a fun Career mode and also active sweaty multiplayer if you are into that.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Wreckfest 2 is in early access, if that counts as upcoming. Same developer as Flatout 2, so it should feel similar, just more modern.
neutral · AI labelView post →Whole point of racing is to be 1st, but secondary objectives require you to deal damage which is impossible if you gain a lead early... Maps with intersections are just gamble if you survive or lose 10 positions by getting T-boned. On top of it AI has no brain and will yeet itself randomly offtrack or divebomb you every single corner for no reason. Demolition derby mode is so badly balanced that it's almost impossible to lose, just go play FlatOut 2 at this point.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If I find a game too tedious and I'm about to drop it then sometimes I cheat whatever currency the game uses by editing RAM values which is braindead easy. Single player only. If it makes me want to keep playing. I have less patience for poor pacing as I get older. Except Wreckfest if it counts. I had zero interest in the shitty single player campaign. I just wanted to race online but the game locks most cars behind a crappy uninspired single player grind. I gave myself enough money to…

neutral · AI labelView post →I would give it a mixed rating if Steam allowed it. The game itself is fine, a great spiritual successor of FlatOut, with amazing physics, driving controls, graphics, and soundtrack. But what turned me off are the long and repetitive events in the campaign: Most of them require you to play 3-4 times on the same track with increasing laps: first 3, then 6, then 12. It is boring, and getting T-boned on the 12th lap, making you restart the race, is annoying. Some of the tracks are pretty…

positive · AI labelView post →Multiplayer Could Be Fun, but Singleplayer Is Boring. The idea of a racing game with realistic car destruction is interesting, but I'm afraid that's about it. The single-player mode has no story at all. It's basically a collection of mostly long, repetitive races, a few repetitive destruction arenas, and fun scenarios. The races have a problem: either you stay in first place throughout the race and miss out on the fun of destroying cars, or you drive alongside the other cars and won't win…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Wreckfest is a perfectly competent and serviceable arcade racer. Racing games, as a genre, are constantly plagued with really poor games that either don't deliver on their promises or stray from the series' roots. Wreckfest is essentially a slightly less dramatised Flatout game, with very dry presentation but similar gameplay. As far as the singleplayer goes, its a good time. The career is relatively long and progression is fairly well done but the events suffer from becoming a bit samey over…

neutral · AI labelView post →Wreckfest doesn't know what it wants to be. The soft-body damage system is genuinely amazing, and deserves to be the centerpiece of something truly chaotic and over-the-top (think Burnout or Flatout vibes). Instead it's shoved into a game with barely any chaotic energy, next to no sense of speed or crash impact, and a driving model that sits in an awkward middle ground, arcadey enough to not feel like a sim-racer, but serious enough to not feel fun. There are better pure arcade racers out…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Would refund if i still could, but i wasted all that playtime trying to get some stupid objective. On a technical level it is amazing, especially during a demolition derby. However, the racing isn't as fun as it looks, FlatOut 2 was way more fun. as a racing game its below mid. The career mode gets annoying real quick, you get score for winning every event, even in a championship, so for 4 event-"championship" you can earn 400 score, but the game rewards you for winning every race not just the…
