I was looking for a good critter collector game for PC for a long while and this one is it for me. First things first, the art style is lovely and all Yaoling designs are done amazingly well, in particular the various demon evolutions. Besides that, the various areas you'll be exploring are gorgeous as well. My personal favourite is the entire area, where School of Hunt resides. Music is another strong side of this …

I enjoyed most of this game, but sadly towards the end the game pulls the rug out from under you and becomes 10x more difficult. The monsters start to get abilities that without rebuilding your entire team to silence them/stop them from casting you will not survive. This means a dozen or more hours of breeding new monsters to be ready, because the team you want to use will not be good enough. Expect to be breeding for far longer then you want. They will be monsters you don't even like because…

The controls feel pretty janky whether you use a controller or mouse and keyboard. On controllers, navigating menus is especially painful and you cannot change any bindings. I do not know if a mobile version of this game exists, but it feels like it was created for that type of device. You can sprint, but only some of the time because of a stamina bar that serves no other purpose but to annoy you. The localization is mediocre; typos abound and many sentences are strangely phrased. This is not…

I grabbed this during a monster tamer sale and thought it looked interesting. The game starts off really cool. The auto battling system is interesting and there are cool designs and music. I also think the way the characters speak are all really cute or funny so it's entertaining to hear the little blee blees and such. This game however is plagued by a lot of miserable decisions or lack thereof. Here's a list: -the level grind at the end of the game to be able to defeat the last few bosses is…

i am not by any means a sweat or hardcore gamer. this is my experience as an slightly over average monster collector player. long but precise review. cons: the middle part of the game ~20h is boring, rinse and repeat, no meaningful developements. story and worldbuilding is almost non-existent. main story ist just, kill this boss-yaoling and defeat this school leader trainer. x10, it's like the newer pokemon objectives but more boring. dont expect a fun story. mapbuilding is not unique,…

I like the concept, but not the execution. There's a pacing issue here, where 1st half conditions players not to care too much about builds (there's very little resistance, so there's little value in building better teams) and in 2nd half you can hit a brick wall if you weren't preparing a good build. I was enjoying the gameplay for the open world collectathon/checklist that it is, but I didn't feel like assembling AND leveling a whole new team, so I dropped it. Anyways, credit where it's…

Lets start with pros. The game is unique, the team building variety is plentiful, and the story is charming. When i say unique i mean, in every aspect. The style of combat, the sprite design and systems in place in the game are endearing different then other titles. when i say variety is plentiful, i mean pick you favorite and then go ahead and build a team. More then one fave? great there is a lot of room in your party to make that happen and you can even use talisman to support your…

The game starts out fun but quickly turns into a very, very grindy slog. It's almost as if the game was designed as a mobile/free-to-play game with how slowed down progression becomes. There are even a few different types of 'currency' required for different mechanics. Difficulty is skewed all over the place with most basic monsters being easy and boss monsters (demons, etc) able to one-shot your crew, even when you outlevel them significantly (level 70 mons vs level 35 boss). This becomes…

Yet another brilliant game that shows how much a certain other creature collector could be vastly improved. Nearly 400 Yoalings is wild to me, and they're all pretty unique and interesting so far. They also have all kinds of crafting skills and can help out in the town as you upgrade it and add helpful npc's. And even though the map is huge, you can easily teleport to any unlocked shrine from the map whenever. I was a little worried that it might be too simple combat wise, but then I got rocked…

An okay creature collector held back by horribly dated mechanics and a clear feeling that the developers don't play their own game. Fishing for materials doesn't become easier with better lure, it becomes harder, because the lures simply contain the entirety of the previous tier of material as well as a new tier. You get to pay more for the privilege of getting the same fish you were getting before! Oh but don't worry shiny hunters there are THREE types in this game. Shiny, Recolor, and…

As far as monster taming games go, this one ticks a lot of boxes for me. Autobattlers aren't my preference for RPGs but this one still manages to be compelling because of the min-maxing you can do with each monster. It's got a ton of different monsters to catch and each of them come with a cool unique active ability. Because of how distinct all the active abilities are it's hard to choose who I want on my team. It's the type of game where you'll run into a new monster, check it's active…

This game is incredibly cute and fun, easy to drop into and to unintentionally grind for hours straight. The soundtrack is gorgeous and the visuals are as well. The yaoling designs are cute and fun, without looking TOO similar to other creatures from similar games and they heavily draw inspiration from Asian mythology. i was worried about the game being "too easy" as I've seen some reviews say, however even after grinding my Yaolings to be above level I can easily still get my butt kicked…

The first half of this game is a solid 8, maybe 9, out of 10. At some point the difficulty ramps up so incredibly high and things start to take so long that it makes the game a 7/10. There's so much WAITING in this game. It had to have been designed as a gacha or mobile game at first. As far as being a game for the steam deck, this is a 6/10 and that's being generous. If you love creature-collecting RPGs with a beautiful East Asian myth vibe, Yaoling: Mythical Journey is a pleasant surprise. The art style is charming, the Yaolings are creative and well-designed, and team-building has just enough depth to stay interesting. Combat is strategic without being overwhelming. My rating for the game in it's current state as of 8/15/2025 when it's at full release is a 7/10, with an asterisk that it could very easily get boosted to a 10/10 with some relatively minor fixes. I really like this game but it’s not perfect. The bad: It’s a bit janky for a 1.0 release. It’s far from unforgivable but maybe a bit more polish would be nice. Picking up stuff feels kinda unresponsive sometimes (maybe 25% of the time). The map gets a bit crowded at times, mainly at the first town when you have new people there, I had to zoom in just to fast travel there, this wouldn’t be so bad if the zoom in zoomed where your mouse was instead of on the center of the screen every time…

Amazing game, just a bit rough on the edges. Surprising amount of creatures to collect and have surprisingly good designs. Pacing of the areas is pretty good too. Combat is just an auto-battler, it's more how you build your team, but I still enjoyed how it handled. The narrative / quest / story / npcs were obviously not the focus here, so it is kind of sad since I think a real good polish could make this into something really big. Must play for avid creature collector fans.

Incredible little game, this was everything I hoped Palworld would be, but surpassed my expectations by far. Highly recommend to anyone that likes Pokemon/Palworld style games, where you level up/evolve little creatures, combined with a bit of base tending. Well done to the developers!

I wanna like the game but Auto Battlers are not fun to me. I wanna play the game not watch it play itself.

Sadly the controls are crazy bad, just like the translation to English at points, but I could live with that Why does literally everything evolve into some anime waifu or shonen main character?? In the first 2 hours I literally just ran through the game picking up a million things, not knowing what any of them are doing or what I am doing, yet not losing a single fight ever. The game just babys you through. Some reviews say the difficulty curve goes up like crazy midway, but I don't think I…

Yaoling: Mythical Journey is a creature-collecting RPG developed by RAYKA STUDIO and published by RAYKA STUDIO in collaboration with NPC Entertainment and Craftmos Games. Blending Eastern fantasy aesthetics with monster-taming mechanics and light village management systems, the game presents a layered adventure that extends beyond simple creature battles. Very nice creature collector. I thought the auto-battling would be boring at first, but all the other customization systems layered on top of it made it fun.

Yaoling is a cute alternative for people who enjoy creature collecting and battling with a beautiful art style and nice music, but it lacks somewhat in the story and pacing department. The story is simple and nice enough, but many of the cutscenes are just a black screen with some text over it. Nothing horrible, but not exactly amazing either. After 32 hours I feel rather stuck, as I keep losing battles and seem to be in the dreaded part of the game that other people in the reviews warn…

3/10 I cannot believe I am giving a Chinese creature collection autobattler such a low score, but this game is just incredibly tedious. The combat and monsters are fine. Not amazing, just decent enough. They work and they look okay, nothing to complain about there. The story basically does not exist. Reading the dialogue feels more draining than entertaining. Now for the atrocious part. Most of the late game revolves around trying to get shiny special monsters by breeding them. Eugenics…

Pros: Great creature collector game but you need to look on wiki, fan guides, and discord to understand all the mechanics. Story is about average with other collectors but designs are pretty good and gives a fast battler option to reduce the grind as well as crystals. Cons: The game is not well optimized for xbox controllers and forces you to frequently use the keyboard. Storywise, there isn't much explanation around demons and players are penalized for using them. Evolution crystals…
