This game's artwork is aesthetically stunning. Absolutely beautiful. A++ I thoroughly enjoyed some sections of the game, including the revelation of each vessel, but the overall gameplay mechanics gave me overwhelming anxiety. Serious nightmare fuel. I will probably never play this game again. My hands were throbbing after completing some of the more daunting aerial acrobatics. The vast majority of this game sees …

A week ago I was diagnosed with a terminal illness and the doctors have given me a year at best. I'm so glad I was able to play this masterpiece before I go. I don't know how many people will see this; but I recommend to you to buy this game if you do see it. Gameplay, atmosphere, graphics, story... everything is masterfully crafted. Thank you Piccolo, you have made my final days ones of joy.

This is a Yes, but with some warnings. Read these carefully before deciding whether to pick it up or not. ① If you're uncomfortable with seeing animals hurt, you might want to avoid it. One of the most hauntingly beautiful and criminally underrated games I've ever experienced. It's difficult not to draw comparisons to games like Journey, ABZÛ, and INSIDE. Like those titles, After Us tells its story of ecological and societal loss using very few words, relying instead primarily on environmental storytelling, atmosphere, music, and visual symbolism to communicate its themes. That being said, After Us …

Such a beautiful eerie and surreal game. Highly recommend! I missed so much the first play thru and happily playing again. Definitely worth the money.

Critics, per Wikipedia
On Metacritic, the Windows and PlayStation 5 versions of After Us received mixed reviews, and the Xbox Series X/S version received positive reviews. Though they enjoyed the visuals, IGN said the game "[leans] heavily on unwieldy platforming and mind-numbing combat". IGN and Game Informer found the themes heavy-handed; however, IGN liked how players could bring some life back to the dead world, and Game Informer praised the game's emotional depth. Both Game Informer and GameSpot praised the environmental storytelling. Praising its gameplay, visuals, and message, Shacknews said it "make[s] for a satisfying puzzle-platformer overall". Eurogamer called it "a Game with a Message but not…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The greatest potential to destroy this fragile planet we call "home" comes from each and every one of US. The way the developers intertwined this theme into the entirety of the game is brilliant (the environment, the end level encounters and game mechanics). Explore haunting environments by either jumping, sprinting, floating, sliding or wall running to help retrieve various animal spirits that were driven to extinction by US. Each location has a central theme with a new movement ability to…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →After US loses Trump will state that the game was "stolen" and then take it to the Supreme Court to be overturned and then bitch about it for the rest of his life (hopefully short)

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Played on a steam deck because it somehow managed to get steam deck verification. Don't trust that label; this game absolutely doesn't earn it. Whilst it does eventually start after about half an hour of compiling shaders, you get a game that looks awful, still stutters, is capped at 30fps and has the ability to change graphics options disabled on the steam deck. It genuinely feels like it just took a bunch of public domain assets and chucked them at random into a level, floating around…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Yet another modern "platformer" where the actual platforming is incredibly simple but finding out how the hell to get there is incredibly difficult. Refunded.

positive · AI labelView post →After playing I immediately recycled my plastic and paper, hugged a tree, and planted a veggie garden in my backyard. 10/10 would save all the animals again :D
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →To me, playing this game right now with the state of the world and the USA was a healing experience. I'm so grateful to the developers and creators across the board - this is a masterpiece.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Wow, what a disappointment. First the shaders thing caused a crash. I had to restart the game twice then. Then during gameplay at the very beginning the game crashed. Three times. I wish I had bought this one on Steam I would definitely be asking for my money back. :( Luckily I got it in a bundle for cheap. Still though, frustrating and disappointing. I will do some research and see if there is any way to get it to play. But if not.... This review will remain the same. Thumbs down.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Bought it, realised it didn't have keyboard and mouse support. Ok no worries, I have a ps5 controller to work with. Only to discover the game only supports 1 type of controller and its not ps5. Seems kind of silly to have a game on steam with next to no controller support.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →After Us is probably one of my favorite games of ALL time and that's saying something. I remember I was waiting for it to go on sale but it never did (at the time) and then I caught myself watching the trailer for it every single night. Finally, I gave in and bought it full price (never underestimate the power of a good preview!). What can I say, I played it solo, I played it with others, I've probably done five playthroughs by now and it's still in my top five. This game is such a versatile…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Not finished yet, but I’m already in love with this game. Some platforming sections can be a bit tricky, but they’re never frustrating — and most of the time, the visuals are absolutely stunning. The main message is crystal clear, and as an eco-activist myself, I found it easy to connect with. No dialogue - just haunting, blurred images of a world ruined by human hands. And that’s more than enough. It runs fine on the Steam Deck, but I cranked the visuals to max and chose to continue on PC I…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Visually, this is an excellent experience: poignant, interesting, a little haunting. The sound design is relaxing and appealing. As a game, though, this leaves something to be desired; worse, it fails as a story. Like most of the animals you're tasked with rescuing, the story has a great deal of heart and very little reason. The protagonist is tasked with getting sad about finding petrified remains of extinct animals, so a magic grove can have a record of some of the charismatic megafauna…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The beginning of the game is rough. The controls seem flaky and the atmosphere just doesn't hit... I was close to calling quits, but glad I didn't. This game turns from a mess into an excellent piece of art. The atmosphere changes, the controls become fluent, the art kicks off. If you pick this game up, don't be surprised by the beginning, it's worth pushing through.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Very sad, very pretty Most of the negative reviews for this game fail to consider that this game was made for art, rather than outstanding gameplay
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →After Us finally hit the table. It's a deck-building and resource management game where you are trying to make useful combos by creating a strong tribe of apes. It plays quickly, but there isn't a lot of interaction, so it feels like a solo game. It is not a bad game, but it is not for me.
neutral · AI labelView post →This game surely has great ambitions, but unfortunately, the execution is not good. Movement mechanics are unnecessarily complicated (jump, double jump, high jump, long jump,...) and controlling the character does not feel natural. Visual art style is actually pretty great from afar, but the closer you look, the worse it gets - such as main character design and facial animations. Graphical performance is atrocious - the game is capped at 60 fps and regularly dips in the low 30s even on high end…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I lost my two children dachshunds recently, of old age, Mahi in December 2023 and Koda in September 2024. I got this game because I wanted to see the dachshund spirit as seem in the trailer. And after rescuing the dachshund vessel and seeing them running around in the green fields, this game is immediately a 10 for me!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I wish I could love this game. I really, really, really wish I could. But here I am, writing this review, lamenting what could have been. And what could have been? A beautiful story about bringing back the remains of nature from a world that has long lost it. A silent, harrowing journey through breathtaking sights and set pieces that don't *need* to throw random things at you to engage, because the sights alone do the trick. But... The second combat began, I got turned off. I don't think this…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I honestly didn't finish this, got 3 vessels and stopped. It kept my attention for quite a while, and there's nothing wrong with the game mechanics or graphics, but it is just very dark and depressing. You might enjoy it, but I guess it's not for me.

neutral · AI labelView post →A mediocre platformer that bashes you over the head with its unsubtle message. Pros: - it looks very pretty. Some vistas are spectacular. - striking symbolism, with the goop everywhere, grasping tendrils of filth pulling you in, TV heads etc. Cons: - controller only, for some reason? Got around this using Key2Joy to reasonable success, but quite annoying. - very floaty platforming controls. - incredibly frustrating combat system. Should have been removed entirely. - message is way too in your…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I can't believe this game doesn't have more reviews, as such I had to come leave one. This game is beautiful, heartbreaking, and wonderful all at the same time. It takes a bit to piece together the lore, but man once it clicks, it's a wonderful journey. I had no idea just how much I missed the first time I played through it, and while yes, can be a short game, I for sure got the itch to go back and play again to 100% it.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game is a visual masterpiece but there are a few flaws. Before i start the price is kind of inflated for the content it offers but if its on sale the game is totally worth it. The story is worth watching and looking around makes you realize how much humans have polluted the world. As a result it send a message on how we treat specific species while having very expressive faces when it came to collecting memories. 30-40 minutes load on the first launch. Camera angles sometimes gave a huge…

positive · AI labelView post →One of the finest games I have ever played. We need more of these games. I would describe this game as stress-relieving. You just gotta relax and dive into the depths of Gaia's World. Everything about this game is well crafted and beautifully designed. I honestly would rate it 10 out of 10. Gotta thank the developers for their vision and creativity.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Fantastic! I'm all for puzzle-platformers in general but man this one had me hooked at the first sight of the strange and horrifying world I was dropped into. Interesting concept, good mechanics, incredibly creative worldbuilding, and haunting music. The completionist in me appreciated just the right amount of collectible things. And you can pet every animal! Slam dunk game for me.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →At the start i hated the statues, everywhere I looked it was just butts. I honestly thought they were meant for comic relief from the slow gameplay. As time went on though i'd see not statues but people, together. To stay warm, to feel comfort, companionship, families. Each statue felt like they had a story. Sometimes you'd come across one that'd give you pause, like a man buried up to his neck in trash and when you unbury him you see his family right below him. There are 100s of examples like…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is great. i dot know why there are so many negative reviews for it. i am only 1/3 through the game at this point, but the gameplay and platforming are all good in my book. the combat took me for a surprise because i was not expecting it but not bad at all there are a lot of review mentioning the lack of keyboard support which baffles me there are a ton of games that say controllers only like dark souls and there are no complaints about no keyboard support on those games at…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game was absolutely beautiful. The gameplay could feel a bit repetitive for some but for me, the different settings and stories were enough. There's no dialogue, no NPC's, but the game speaks through the actions. I finished it in fifteen hours, across three days. As I post this, I am left disappointed that a glitch has made it impossible for me to finish the game. One of the memories in the quarry is inaccessible, the Devourer is hanging in the air and no matter how I try to get to him,…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is a no from me. The main message of this game is "humans bad, animals and plants good", no nuance, no depth. And it's being hammered over and over. It's not even that it tries to raise awareness about climate change or something, no, it's all out anti-civilisation and it made me very uncomfortable. "Do humans deserve another chance?" My question is do people who say BS like that deserve to have electricity in their homes, or a home to begin with. Anyway: - Platforming is basically fun,…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I love games like this, normally. It is pretty, and I like moving around. But I just keep getting lost or having to backtrack or whizzing past a thing I guess I am supposed to do and, like, it's fine, but ambling about and searching around for ages for collecting a piece of something hidden somehwere starts to dim what is usually such a bright and epic experience. I haven't finished it yet, perhaps I will change my mind. Platforming constantly is a bit annoying, doing it in dreary and…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A bit rough around the edges, but when it comes together it's really cool. It feels like a PS2-era platformer, but way more epic in terms of visual scope... in a good way? Definitely worth checking out if you miss games from that time.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is very impressive, and deserves more recognition. You can tell that a lot of work went into the art, music, and level design. The controls are a bit floaty, but it only caused me frustration in a few small sections. Can't recommend enough if you like these "artsy" types of games. Only complaints I have would be the 60 FPS cap and lack of button remapping. Despite it being Steam Deck verified, the performance is not good, being limited to 30 FPS, and even dipping to the low 20's or…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Loved the story. Beautiful graphics, fantastic OST. The game is takes about 5 hours to beat if you breeze through it, and 12 in total trying to collect all the extras. You may want to look for something else if you dislike seeing unfortunate and upsetting things happening to animals however. Gameplay is a little iffy at times. Movement was good, not too complicated but you are given options to mix up your mobility. Combat being sometimes huge enemy spam and the ranged attack not being…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is haunting, beautiful, and terrifying all at the same time. The story is phenomenal and so heart wrenching, the graphics are beautiful, dark and yet strangely hopeful. I loved every second of it right up until I encountered a game breaking bug. Sadly I was unable to finish the game due to a graphical bug in the Ocean level that prevented me from playing the rest of the game. If they ever fix the issue, I would love to finish the game and change my review because the game is…
