What players are saying
Counted from the reviewers’ own thumbs up/down on the 190 English Steam reviews we collected, not by the AI. Valve’s all-language rating: Mostly Positive (385 of 530 positive).
Many players find Stray Blade a hidden gem with engaging combat and rewarding exploration. [1][2][3] Some reviewers note technical issues like performance bugs and janky movement. [4][5][6] Several players argue the game is more action-adventure than souls-like. [7][8][9]

I do like this game, combat is satisfying and exploration is always rewarding, but as of right now, its bogged down by technical issues. Performance is bad, seems to take a huge toll on my machine running basic effects, and there are all kinds of bugs and glitches. I think I'm softlocked out of progressing in the skill tree, because skills are passive and unlocked by mastering the various weapons, but you have to …

This game taught me to pay less attention to steam reviews. Yes, the game needs some patching in some aspects, but really only minor things. Also I have seen the reviews say it has a almost nonexistent story, with less that 2 hours of gameplay... Story, music, combat, progression, weapon variety, beautiful envriments (truly),custom difficulty settings - I love it and fully recommend, if you are willing to look past …

Its more metroidvania than soulslike. The combat is good but not that deep has a lot of weapons but some feels very samey. It looks good and sounds great, the relationship between the two characters is well written and you will enjoy how they talk with each other. I dont understand the negative reviews unless they came from hardcore souls fans, this is a more casual and easier experience but it is quite enjoyable

After doing 100% of this game. Its an alright game for what it is. Not sure why some people would call this a Souls-like, it isnt. Its more similar to action adventure games like Immortals Fenyx Rising. It had some metroidvania-type elements which I enjoyed though. As of patch 1.7, there are still a lot of bugs and janky movement, in combat both me and enemies get stuck alot, on various terrain or on each other. I …

Very enjoyable hidden gem! To get the bad out of the way, performance should be better relative to my hardware. No big deal, but I have to lower more settings than I should. Visually I find it very appealing, reminds me of good old Amalur. It´s not open world, but the hubs are big enough to make for rewarding exploration. Combat is challenging but fair. Fortunately other game mechanics, e.g. the progression, are not …
Summarised from 34 of the 201 public posts collected about this game; every point cites the posts behind it ([n] opens the post) and the split is counted from the posts’ own ratings. Updated Oct 13, 2026. How summaries are made
73% of the 190 Steam reviewers we collected recommend Stray Blade. The complaint that keeps coming up: performance issues and bugs are common. Deal-breaker or nitpick?
Critics, per Wikipedia
Stray Blade received mixed reviews on Metacritic. Despite some bugs and poor performance in the PlayStation version, Push Square recommended Stray Blade to players looking for an entry-level Soulslike game. They praised the art style, narrative, and the combat, though they said combat could be "sluggish and imprecise". IGN wrote that it "tries and fails" to break genre conventions of Soulslike games. Though they enjoyed the colorful world and simplified combat, they felt it fell short of the quality of other Soulslike games. NME called it "the Fisher-Price of Soulslikes" and said it does not maintain its positive initial first impression.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Is this game horrible to a point you would want to call it hot garbage? - No Is it a good game - also no. Had a great potential to be something cool, yet either the budget or talent of the studio was not enough. Starts pretty nice - there's a world to explore and everything looks nice. You check out the combat and it feels ok: you exchange hits and dodge at right moments -> this gives you stamina boost. Yeah, I see where this is heading. Then you discover there are dozens of weapons. Maces…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Classic example of a kickstarter being overambitious - The first 1/3 of the game (First major zone) is amazing, so many weapons to play with (20+). The remaining 2/3 of the game contains a grand total of 6 weapons and all the same enemies, but recolored. The boss fights are decent but there's only 4 of them.

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I very rarely make reviews but this game i felt deserved some positive ones considering the amount of complaints it had. I think there's a problem with how players treat souls-like games and that is because a lot of them expect those games to be well... Souls games and so they create for themselves those high expectations like every above-average quality souls-like game should be as good as it was made by Fromsoft themselves. While personally I appreciate any and all different approaches to…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Stray Blade is a souls-like with heavy focus on the story/characters and weapon variety. It has unusual system of progression where you unlock passive upgrades for your character by mastering various weapon types, this technically forces you to use every weapon you find which is a double-edged sword as one one hand you have a decent variety in armament, while on the other you're often forced to use a weapon you might not like just to unlock a damage or health upgrade for your character. Entire…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Stay away from this game. This game plays like a test build and runs like one too. On low settings it will dip to 30 fps very frequently whereas I can run elden ring at 60+ fps on epic settings. You can backstab enemies and then throw them into walls and sometimes they will just bug out and get stuck in the wall. Some enemies will just straight up spawn in the ground and despite what it might look like, your weapon can't hit them. This entire game is running around a map collecting materials…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I really wanted to like this game. It's dripping with ambiance, and there is a huge amount of potential, but alas it goes mostly unused. The two biggest gripes I have about the game: - the 3 factions, there's little to no backstory about them -- what are they doing in Acrea? What is their origin? fleshing these little details out a bit helps immensely. (granted there's books / notes which hint at these things, but it's not enough) - for a game that hinges so much on exploration and finding…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I'm so glad I ignored the negative reviews on this one. I'm loving this game. The artistry, the creative skilltree, and the changes within the world that you see as you progress make this game stand out. I do wish the souls-like tag were removed from the game description... I think that gives players certain expectations that this game does not fulfill or provide. I am NOT a souls player, and I love this game. But I'm sure if someone comes in thinking it'll actually be souls-like, they will…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Wow. There is a deep love at the core of this game. I felt that. I play a lot of games. I tend to enjoy an open-world experience with a little bit of platforming, as long as it includes stuff u get from the game as mechanics. That is not all, but the rest is not relevant to this review. This game, from its entry to you, does not pretend to tell you anything you haven’t heard already and cuts right to the chase of the character’s heart. Goals are established and you understand what it is you…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I don't mind the do-over necessary in a souls-like, or in this case a game aping some of the souls' formulae. But there are a few problems with how things are done here. First, healing is a consumable that you can find in the world and from slain enemies. When you die your meager beginning stock of 1 is refilled. Sounds good, right? Except that not every enemy drops a heal for you, The ones you find in the world are apparently one-time use. So the gank squad that you're currently…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A solid open world game, maybe a bit rough around the edges, but neat ideas like clearing out a location of enemies lets the world evolve and other enemies take over, sometimes building new things for traversal. Ran into a small bug that was annoying me a bit, so headed over to the game's Discord and asked about it, got help directly from the devs and solved it quickly. That alone is worth a recommendation, in my book.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Verdict: On one hand the game is fun, on the other finding new collectibles and fighting the same enemies for 20 hours is beyond dull. Get it on sale if you are into action RPGs, stay away if you want something souls-like + Steam trading cards (7 drop, 13 to make a badge) Steam achievements (52, 46 base game and 6 DLC, a lot of collecting things) Visually beautiful The landscape is gorgeous at times Solid execution animations A lot of work was put into the story and how you learn about the…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I tried this game when it first came out and thought it was aesthetically pleasing, but there were some performance issues, and the combat at the time was not the greatest. I'm so glad they went back, revisited it, and altered the core gameplay to what it was to what it is now. I think what they had was a cool concept. Parry blue attacks. Dodge red attacks, but combat in between that was not as rewarding. Now it plays very fluidly, they have indicators where poise breaks are going to be on…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Soulslike lite game, cartoonish graphics with easy battles for veterans but the exploration is very satisfying. Best game for new players to try the genre.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →So very close to being a good game. The combat is addictive, especially with the vast range of weapons at your disposal each with their own movesets, and the voice acting is surprisingly good, but... there are so many little quirks/bugs and general lack of polish which get in the way of it being anything other than a frustratingly unenjoyable experience. Performance also leaves a lot to be desired, with regular framedrops and a disappointingly low overall framerate to boot. In the end, the…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →this game was super fun. besides a few technical bugs/hiccups. the combat was engaging and some of the weapons could use some balancing but overall each weapon gave a fresh play style and variety while completing the game. I finished the game around 16 hours with exploring about 70% of the map and unlockables. im looking forward to seeing this game after a few refinements.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Stray Blade is a stylyzed souls-like where you play as a softspoken woman, Farray, and her newfound accented companion Boji as she brutally finishes off enemy after enemy in an attempt to leave the world of Acrea. Pros: - Combat is fun: Why I recommend the game, the combat itself I found to be pretty fun, rode the fine line for me between being challenging enough that I can't mindlessly go through but not so hard that a single npc felt like a bossfight. The finishers are a cool mechanic. -…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The good: - Various environment, tons of stuff to explore. - No punishment for dying so even if the map is super hard to navigate through, you still won't need to recover your resources. The bad: - The devs waste your time abundantly with ridiculously SLOOOOOW chat and an extremely dumb revive unskipable animation you have to watch every single time you die. - There is some bugs that kills your game progress: -- In the DLC after you kill the final boss there is a chance you don't get to see…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →*This review was machine translated from Korean to English. Stray Blade Gorgeous to Look At, Misery to Play: An Action Game Without Common Sense 🎨 The Saving Grace: Decent Visuals and Motion Variety To be fair, the game looks decent. While the combat itself isn’t mechanically smooth, the developers didn’t just copy-paste the attack strings. Instead, they put effort into designing distinct animations and execution moves for each weapon category. It gives the combat some visual variety and…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →first 10 hours: fun second 10 hours: fun but.... where is my progression gone everything past that: please let it be over! Its kind of fun watching the devs first run out of ideas (for more than the weapons) then out of money (for custscenes instead of concept art) and last out of time (to fix bugs). Though I shouldn't complain about bugs too much: At least the final boss dropped through the floor with 1/3 HP left and died instantly giving the credits. The saddest part is that it could…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Won't give you a grand slap across the face, it's an unpolished game with little ambition. It just wants to give you a lot of stuff to explore (about 30 hours to 100% the map) and a nice, sometimes touching banter between characters along the way. It was clearly made with a lot of love, only the very end of it feels like something to be done with. Regarding the soulslite debate, allow me to explain: you can adjust difficulty in real time, putting it anywhere between "baby's first Zelda" - I…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →just got this a few days ago so i don't know what it was like beforehand. As it is now seems to be a pretty solid game so far. combat feels suitably challenging. Aesthetics are good, story so far quite interesting. Definately doesn't deserve it's mixed reviews rating.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →First things first. If you enjoying this game, good for you, I'm happy for you, this is just my experience what I'm writing down. This game made me really mad right at the beginning. On 1440p, epic settings, this game ran 35-45 FPS. Even FSR on, the max was 55. Why?! I have no clue. I got a RTX2070 and I played Cyberpunk 2077 on all high, dlss on, 1440p with 75-95 FPS, or WD: Legion very high and some ultra settings, dlss on, 1440p with 65-100 FPS. There isn't any reason why this game ran so…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I really wanted to like this game. It looks good, even on medium settings. Good FPS on medium settings. Nice humor. But... I hate the combat. Developers should make games that are not souls like. Souls combat is awful. I just want to have some fun and I don't want to frustrate myself. I requested a refund.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →First off, I completed it.(20 hours is just enough) This game needs work still. Targeting, sound cutting in and out. Camera lack of enemy types. The bosses are cheap and hit detection is some of the worse i seen. I cant in good faith recommend this game the way it is.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Not one to make reviews but this felt like it deserved one. Story is a little short considering I beat it within 17 hours, collected and mastered all weapons and hit level cap of 50 pretty quickly but all and all game was surprisingly good considering the mixed reviews. Combat definitely takes getting used to but if you can get a hang of it its very satisfying to parry the bosses over and over. Didn't quite 100% completion it but this is something i'll definitely end up completing fully.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Stray Blade is an ambitious action RPG from Point Blank Games, published by 505 Games, and it strives to deliver a blend of fast-paced, parry-centric combat with an adventurous, treasure-hunting journey through a fallen fantasy kingdom. The premise follows Farren West, an explorer who becomes bound to the ancient land of Acrea after accidentally awakening its dormant magic and dying in the process. Revived by this mysterious power and accompanied by a small, talkative companion named Boji,…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →#Platinum 889 - Stray Blade This was the second game I wanted to plat before it leaves the PS+ Catalog in April. The game definitely has some flaws and bugs but nothing too bad. Decent action adventure with an okay story. #PS5 #StrayBlade #Trophyhunter
neutral · AI labelView post →I wish I could recommend this game, but boy does its combat feel stiff and limiting. Hitting enemies often feels like it has no weight to it, so you end up just falling back on learning each enemy's 3 moves and parry&countering them, over and over, because going aggressive overcommits and punishes you due to your hits having little to no crowd control. That's... not terribly interesting. The execution animals are nice, at least. Also, the performance is surprisingly bad for the technically…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A light mix of a souls like, metroidvania and an action RPG. The game is pretty straight forward and at least in my case there wasn't ever a situation where I didn't know where to go and there is a map and a compass that shows the general direction where you are supposed to go. Along the way you pick up three new abilities/skills that let you keep progressing and allow you to go back and collect some collectables that weren't available before without the abilities. The soulslike elements are…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Well it's just pretty without being beautiful, the combat system is meh. After an hour and a half listening to the character narrating every piece of grass I gathered I got annoyed and I'd rather go back playing Elden Ring thank you. A for effort but meh
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Finished Stray Blade after about 18 hours. It’s a classic “jack of all trades, master of none” soulslike. The game tries to be an open-world Metroidvania with crafting, weapon mastery, and interconnected areas… and ends up being mediocre at almost everything. Here’s my honest review: POSITIVES: - The world of Acrea is genuinely beautiful — large, varied, and atmospheric. - Performance was fine on PC (smooth 60 FPS the whole time; the issues that exist never felt game-breaking). - Lore is…

Pros: + Souls-like with an actual pause button. + Progression is very good. + Combat is very good. + Can choose difficulty and advanturer 2/4 is very balanced (Final boss too impossible. need to fix) + There is a story, that is skipable. Conclusion: Not good enough…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Not terrible, but not good. Mid game. Tries to be souls-like but just hasn't had any real thought put into why. Combat is mid. Very mid. Story/lore is meh. Loot/craft system is not a system. 4/10 (If you have young kids learning arpgs, this is a decent shoe in the door game) extra stuff for whoever. The gear levelling system is really dull, i don't know how else to put that. Simple as an autistic chihuahua and as basic as the ♥♥♥♥♥ that carry 'em in bags. You just arbitrarily find a blueprint…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game itself is alright. But just for the fact, that they can't even be bothered to fix the terrible performance, I can't recommend this. Won't buy any game from this dev in the future.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Was a fun game with great combat system. i really enjoyed the way skill point were used in mastering each weapon. my only disappointment was how short the game felt. i really don't understand why developers put a "point of no return" in these games. you do all of this work to make the world right and to never see how it all turns out. i would have liked to at least finish collecting everything without the insane storm after killing third boss.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →From what I've played so far this game absolutely slaps, and it is a shame it seems to have been given an underwhelming reception. It's a hidden gem and it deserves attention equal to the amount of work this game has in level design, bosses, voice acting, and most importantly combat! The term soulslike has been used so liberally that people are probably tired of seeing the term, but it feels like Dark Souls 1 with some charm from Fable and Kingdoms of Amalur thrown in. Two bosses down and 4…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A genuinely enjoyable game. The story is well-done, the environment beautiful, and controls smooth. My favorite part is how the various zones will change as the story progresses. For example: if you go through an enemy camp and wipe out the enemies, then hit the next story checkpoint, when you return to that camp, structures in it will be wrecked, there will be bodies around, and it'll be populated by either wildlife or a different brand of enemy. Likewise, when you go through 'untamed…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I enjoyed this game quite a bit, people are comparing it to Kingdom of Amalur Re-Reckoning which I think is a very appropriate comparison, the combat and feel to the games are similar for sure, I wouldn't necessarily compare it to souls-likes as readily however, it doesn't really have that same feel to it in my opinion. I thought that the combat was interesting, the variety of weapons was fun and the story was good. I didn't go into this looking for story so I didn't necessarily go out of my…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Not for me. As someone who doesn't have time for multiplayer games, the recent resurgence of SP has been a blessing. This game has been on my wishlist for a while and I was aching for another gem like Kingdom Come: Deliverance or Greedfall. Since reviews have never been a metric I can rely on, I decided to give this game a try. However, there was nothing keeping me in or pulling me back to the game - no hidden area unexplored, no tough boss that I am *this* close to defeating nor a storyline…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This week, I had the opportunity to dive into the game of Stray Blade. While the game certainly has its moments of brilliance, it falls short in certain aspects, preventing it from reaching its full potential. One aspect that stood out in Stray Blade is its visually striking art style where I realized the detailed effort that the developer has put into it. The forest and the dungeons were all of high quality but sometimes it was put down with technical issues such as frame rate drops and minor…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →People got spoiled by Elden Ring and now think everything needs to be compared to it. This is a good game on its own, brings new ideas to the table and is just good fun. Highlights: - Skill progression system tied to mastering weapons, so you get encouraged to try all of them out and find your own playstyle. - Gorgeous artstyle (subjective) + nicely structured world allowing you to open up shortcuts to past areas everywhere, making you feel like everywhere you go and everything you collect…

Story is nice, characters are interesting and voice over in english are pretty good (played female). Not a lot of bosses but they're interesting too. Character progression has a very interesting twist that favors using diferent weapons which leads to diverse gameplay styles during the same playthough.
