What players are saying
Counted from the reviewers’ own thumbs up/down on the 189 English Steam reviews we collected, not by the AI. Valve’s all-language rating: Mixed (287 of 479 positive).
Some reviewers criticize the clunky combat, poor animations, and balance issues. [1][2][3] A few players joke about the game's title and meme potential. [1][4][5]

Dolmen is a really funny game that I can recommend you pick up on sale for 2 dollars, but you should never spend more than that. some friends and i picked this up as a joke because the name Dolmen is funny and it's fun to say Dolmen over and over, but it's definitely not a good game. it does kinda scratch the souls-like itch to a surprising degree but, with the addition of having a gun that can trivialize a huge …

Its really sad to see the reviews for this game. Having recently bought this game and completed it 3 times. One with Guns only, one with dual wield only, one with unga bunga asmongold style club smash only. I can say that I have now the right to give a review for this sadly rather down voted game. As a fan of dark souls games, this game is really good. It has fun bosses, that are arguably sadly rather easy; despite …

If you are looking for a triple A Dark Souls type experience this one is probably not for you. However, if you can enjoy a lower budget somewhat clunkier experience you will probably have fun with the game. The closest comparison would be "Hellpoint" and if you didn't have any major issues with it you might find yourself at home with Dolmen too. It is the usual souls experience where you go around collecting nanites …

In Dolmen you play as John Dolmen and collect Dolmen. The melee combat in Dolmen sucks. The enemy animations in Dolmen suck, (They aren't very well telegraphed), there is a gun in Dolmen. Use the Gun in Dolmen. Upgrade skill and science. The Dolmen gun is now overpowered and you have won Dolmen. Do not buy Dolmen for more than 2€. Dolmen is love, Dolmen is life. All hail John Dolmen
Summarised from 34 of the 207 public posts collected about this game; every point cites the posts behind it ([n] opens the post) and the split is counted from the posts’ own ratings. Updated Oct 13, 2026. How summaries are made

Critics, per Wikipedia
Dolmen received mixed reviews on Metacritic. Shacknews called it "a solid sci-fi spin on the Soulslike formula", though they criticized the lack of a jumping mechanic and the cutscenes, which they felt were lower quality than the rest of the game. Commenting on what they felt was poorly balanced gameplay, NME said it "misunderstands why Soulslike games are so enticing". Gamepressure said it "looks great" but the gameplay fails to live up to its influences.

So bad that it sat at a “Mostly Negative” rating for a while, as quietly as it did in my Library. With that, and with what I’ve heard from a friend who played it, I ended up waiting. Amongst other things, I didn’t want to be the guy to kick it while it’s down. Luck would have it that in the few months it took me to get around to it, a couple of patches rolled out. It was…

Indeed Dolmen has his own move and play style with each Weapons, and each Rangeweapon feels diffrent with the Shot squences. And even the each Melee weapons have an unique playstyles wich can be nice combined with range weapons. But there is nothing what would it makes clunky. Yeah some times there a load bug´s when you wanna kill a Boss multipe times, when you press the skip button. But thats something what can be…

My Dolmenions, I have seen the light, the revelation, and I can proudly say that YES, Dolmen does exist! Dolmen isn't just a game, it is a religion; a lifestyle. I know I may only have 0.6 hours of gameplay on record as of writing this review, but that is simply becuase the feeble human mind can only handle Dolmen's shining glory for fractions of time before needing a break. I may never beat this…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Wouldn't have bought this game on sale if it wasn't for oboeshoes' Dolmen videos. After completing the game on a Strength build, I'd say that this game is not as bad as most people make it out to be, but has still a lot of bad things going for it which made it flop. Positives: - Decent graphics. I mean yes it is kinda generic but also not bad for the devs' first title. - Decent build variety. Strength Greatswords and Greathamers, Skill Claws and Dual Swords, Pistols, Rifles and…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I've been on a soulslike kick since finishing Elden Ring, having played and enjoyed Nioh 2, The Surge 2, and Stranger of Paradise, as well as replaying Dark Souls 3, so when I heard there was another sci-fi soulslike on the scene, my interest was piqued - but to be entirely honest, avoid this one unless you've played every other major soulslike you can get your hands on. It's far from the worst indie soulslike attempt I've played, but it's... not great. There are four key problems here. 1:…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is honestly one of the worst Dark Souls clones I have played. Awful textures, wonky combat, enemy attack animations has almost zero windup leaving you no space to parry or dodge, stamina drain on attacks is way too big and the "story" is non existent. Oh and don't forget that if you need to recharge your battery (to heal) you have to stand COMPLETELY STILL for 3 SECONDS I personally received a key for this but I'd feel pretty damn awful if I had paid 39.99€ for this game, there are tons…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is extraordinarily bad, no UW support, ♥♥♥♥♥♥ graphics with weird resolution choices, ♥♥♥♥♥♥ sound, boring gameplay. Just terrible and super expensive, can't believe they charge that much for this crap. Dear devs get it together and commit yourselves to get well.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →So i dont do these reviews often but i feel like i should this time. DONT GET IT!!!! The game feels like a rushed out pile crap and the fighting is clumpy and clumsy at best. some game breaking issues aare. 1 when fighting bosses your character goes invisible and you have no idea if you are going to get hit or doge incoming attack. 2 enemies will die but idk how in the time there are dying they can hit you. 3 parts of the map can kill you and in those area you can never get what you lost upon…

The game is much fun and i enjoy it :) its hard and challaning, i like it The energy modes are nice, there is crafting und faming :) grafik in 4k is epic like this syfi horror style so much. Donot forget its a small brasilian studio :) and they make a dam good job hope for a second part. Update: after 17 hours of game play i finished it and had much fun und enjoy it.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I watch a Youtuber that made his life goal to find more Dolmen like clones. Shout out to Oboe Shoes Games. Sure the combat is not perfect, it's a little stiff, your character doesn't switch from the gun to the melee fast enough. You can cheese enemies with the unlimited gun ammo, if you prefer to do so, it's an option. My Youtuber even made a guide on how to play the game and by that I mean on how to cheese the game by making it a breeze, by using the gun class. So I went for the exact…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Dolmen is the best game ever. I have Dolmen on every system and on pc. Why? Because it is the only game that provides me with the amount of Dolmen I require to survive. If you don't have Dolmen, you are a basement loser. God have mercy on you if you don't buy this game.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →realy dont understand the negativ reviews
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I'll start by saying I actually won this game from a giveaway,so thankfully I did not pay for it. TLDR: It's not bad, but it's far from good. Wait for a massive sale like under $5 spend no more than $10. It feels like an Alpha, or best case a Beta release. The game does have promise, but it's going to need some massive updates. The camera is your enemy no ifs ands or buts. The devs and their infinite wisdom decided to put your character in the middle of the screen instead of offsetting to…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Well...Just finished the game. I love all kind of Souls-Like like Darksouls, Bloodborne, Lords of the Fallen etc... This game is not as bad as people want to sell you in the reviews, but still I had to downvote, because neutral is not possible... Positive Points: + Game is much prettier than people are talking here in the forums and reviews... Still better than most of the originals From Software Games. + Armor Design is pretty cool when u are able to craft better armor later on. + Probably…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Genuinely enjoying this game so far! Judging on other reviews and comments, I think there's a misunderstanding of how to play the game. We will give some leniency here because people see "Soulslike" and just make a bunch of assumptions about the game. I have learned some tremendously important mechanics that aren't explained well... It's a ranged combat game. 50/50 ranged and melee. You use your "battery" which is basically your mana pool to fire your gun, but when you use your battery for…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →From helpoint to the surge series I love garbage souls-like games and this is the worst souls-like I've ever played. from insta-kill boss attacks to insta-kill environmental effects this game has all of the most unfair and ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ mechanics available. unless you love ♥♥♥♥♥♥ souls-like games like me then stay far far away from this awful game. Edit: after getting past the halfway point of this game I can confirm the developers do not understand what hard but fair means. You should never play…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game really is not that bad thus far. Are the negative reviewers on drugs? The game is by no means an "AAA", "AA", or even an "A"... more like a "B+". But it's defiantly worth the 85% discount.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →After 15.5 hours to reach 100% completion with build experimenting, I feel confident in this review. Like many, if not most souls-like games. Don't expect to come into this with the expectation it is going to match FromSoftware levels of polish and deliverance (which bear in my mind those games are far from perfect as well). So from my perspective that is an incredibly disingenuous approach which is immediately destined to failure. Dolmen comes from a small studio which I may be wrong, but I…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Not worth the price tag. Dolmen Feels like an Early Access, but plays like a early gen game. The story is bland and the main character (if you can call it a character) has zero personality or excitement to play as. That being said I did enjoy collecting all the steam achievements, and the monsters where enjoyable to fight (minus the demon spawn crawlers ._.) The death animation was kinda neat and the bosses where OK. If this game was on sale for less then $10 I would recommend it, otherwise…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Game is an utter trash fire. The Good: + I have nothing positive to say about the execution. Maybe on a very high level some of the ideas here could be done well. But it is not done well here. + It's name apparently means big ♥♥♥♥ in Swedish which gave me a chuckle. The Bad: - The game has major control issues. My xbox controller by default wasn't detected this isn't great but not a deal breaker, - But once my controller was detected and working the game seems to drop inputs or outright…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →For $1.99 I'd say it's worth it. If I bought it for $20, I wouldn't feel robbed, but I would wish I spent it on something else. Shoutout to OboesShoes for bringing this game to my attention, he has a very funny "walkthrough" I recommend. The end is definitely unfinished, and there's a fair amount of jank, but there is solid design as well. It took me just under 18 hours to 100%. There was a need to grind parts, and you have to fight every boss 3 times to get their weapon. It was probably 4-5…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →DOLMEN is worth $1.99.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The developers clearly tried, and being they're largely unknown and not from a part of the world famous for making games, I can cut them some slack. Everything in this game works more or less as intended, but everything also feels really generic. The level design is pretty good, and the voice acting is oddly decent, especially when you consider the numerous localization errors. The game isn't broken but it also feels really unfinished. I had to grind for levels a lot, right near the beginning…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →My favorite part about this game is when you search for other sources of Dolmen cuz I'm really a fan of Dolmen Dolman is such a Dolman Dolman does not deserve game of the year but it does deserve game of the century cuz Dolman is very Dolman and we all know Dolmen is Dolmen Dolmen Dolmen my second favorite part of dolman is the lore and how the Corporation only cares about the Corporations problems and not the miners the very subtle anti-corporation theme in Dolman is one of its strongest…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game crahed 3 times in about 40min of gameplay. I do not have patience for that.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Honestly it's a pretty dreadful souls like. Possibly the worse one I've played. I went in hoping it was at least better than Hellpoint or Mortal Shell but it's worse than both. Graphically the game is relatively nice looking but the art direction is pretty uninspired and just feels like an offbrand Mass Effect. Gameplay/Controls: It just doesn't feel right. It controls okay but it just isn't that good to play. The guns and elemental debuffs are decent enough But, where the game falls apart…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Considering this is an indie game, this game has blown me away with its quality. I've seen some reviews mention bugs, clunky fighting and such but I have not experienced any such things myself so I do suppose a fair heads up is that you may or may not encounter such issues depending on your system specs and with likely upcoming patches, may never experience any at all! It is clear to me having played through three bosses at the point of this review that a lot of thought went into the boss…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I bought it when it was on sale for only $2 because the trailer made it look promising. The mixed reviews made me even more interested in trying it, and honestly, I see why it was on sale. It is a giant mess. It started off really fun with all the cutscenes, but once you get to the gameplay part, it quickly falls apart. The combat system is simple, yet somehow they managed to mess it up, and the movement system as well, it's very clunky. Healing is a chore, and while the stamina/energy system…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A good low-budget Soul-like game. Kind of short but cheap (85% on sale)
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Broken, buggy, stuttering, unplayable. Incredibly wonky hit detection and dodging. I wanted to give this game the benefit of the doubt but there is just no enjoyment to be found here. Save yourself the £40 that I can't believe the devs are charging for this broken mess.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If you terribly need another soulslike and are not afraid to venture into the jank zone, Dolmen might actually be a good fit for you. Well, a "good enough" fit maybe. I love proper soulslikes myself, and after having beaten the "pearls" like The Surge, Hellpoint, Shattered, and Immortal: Unchained, I was more than ready for another one. Unfortunately this one feels not fleshed out enough. The maps are not that well thought out (a lot of missed opportunities there), the game is pretty short…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I very rarely do reviews, good or bad. It's my personal belief that games will survive if they're made well, or sink if they aren't. I have to make a special exception for this one. Maybe I've been spoiled by the resurging Soulsborne hype created by ER, maybe I'm just getting crotchety in my old age, truth be told I couldn't tell you. What I can tell you, is that Dolmen sets out to build upon the idea of Dark Souls, but falls flat on its face in every aspect. The "story" is bad. Really bad. The…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If Brazilian Janksouls sounds up your alley its a decent title. Its not good nor is it bad. Not worth full price wait for a sale.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I have no words to describe such an awesome experience! This is a very innovative souls-like game, with a deep immersive atmosphere in space (without thematic exaggeration, which I truly like) with a very rich and engaging storytelling. I loved the graphics too, and I believe that it is a very promising game and a big footstep in Brazil`s game industry! I hope I can overtake Revion Prime's challenges!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Down right awful, people are saying this is like hellpoint well its not this game is stupidly janky and extremely unbal;anced the melee seem so so so weak to the point where you will only use your ranked weapon. when you swing your melee weapon the enemy dont get staggered and can hit you through each other and your swings and when you get hit your instantly staggered plus the dodge feels super clunky the game just screams unfinished and untested do your self a favour and skip this go buy elden…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It’s a nice and different game, it’s a little rough around the edges, and probably could be much greater with better expertise if it was not from a novice studio debuting its first game. Dolmen does shine in some points and would recommend for those that like the genre and even more for those that like to try new things. Its crafting system is not anything new, but the combination of its innovative “Energy Bar” that works along with your “Stamina Bar” makes a lot more difference than it looks…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I fInally got my hands on a source of Dolmen. Dolmen is an okay souls-ish game. It is a bit nicer in you just being able to farm and craft/mod gear instead of having to do something crazy esoteric puzzle to get a weapon. Managed to beat the first boss on my first try as well. Shoutout to Oboetwoshoes for making me in to a real Dol-maniac.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Maybe not the best Soulslike out there but still it has all the right elements to have fun and enjoy the combat and exploration combo these games excel in.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A very slow grind you'll find yourself roaming the same halls over and over attempting to earn XP points to level up so you can pass x monster further up-ahead. Similar to Dark Souls or The Surge but not as interesting and those games I gave up on too because they just take far too long to progress and proceed. May as well waste your time in a tree-chopping-for-hours-then-drop-all-your-♥♥♥♥ sim. That being said Dolmen isn't terrible, it's just not for those with jobs, a big backlog and…

The level design is pretty neat guns could be better but are sufficient now that i have crafted one. Also you can look like a skinny master Chief lol. Seriously if you like Sci-Fi this is a cool souls lite Switching between melee and gun play is good and balanced. This is a game where enemies are going to kill you. but this is also a game where you can kill mobs before…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Dolmen's core gameplay is good. The game rewards patience, perseverance and perceptiveness. It's a shame that the plot isn't as good as gameplay. The story is not just sparse, it's simply boring. However, Dolmen's biggest problem is that it doesn't stand out on any field. It's just a soulslike in a sci-fi setting. Dolmen didn't change my life although it positively surprised me a couple of times.
