Counted from the reviewers’ own thumbs up/down on the 155 English Steam reviews we collected, not by the AI. Valve’s all-language rating: Mixed (148 of 245 positive).
Some players criticize the Steam version for censorship and missing content. [1][2][3] Others find the battle system overly complex or repetitive. [4][5][6]

Cannot recommend the Steam version. It is incomplete. The language has been censored and scenes completely removed. The combat system has very little to do with the first two games and is closer to the ABS of newer Final Fantasy games, than the turn-based strategic approach of Agarest Genrrations of War and Agarest Zero. The story is even more simplified than Agarest Zero and the choices are a bit more obvious. …

Unbelivably complicated, life points, party points, ultimate points, time points, story points, stat points, this points, that points, item links, formation links, activation links, combo points, button mashing, made my head spin heh. If you like complicated get it, stay away otherwise.

DefinItely for the hardcore niche. If you enjoyed gameplay in titles such as Xenogears this game is for you. The story leaves some to be desired but the addicting gameplay in terms of control layout makes for a type of JRPG that hasn't been seen in a while. Turn based with button designated moves like Y for upwards attacks, A for downwards, X for Paralyze and B for ranged it keeps the turned based mechanic feeling …

All I have to say is wow, did they make this game a lot more fun than the first one in the series. Cutscenes blend both hybrid-CG art and dynamic 2d sprite events, a big step up from the much more traditional route the 1st game had. Even more important is the gameplay; they made combat MUCH better in my opinion. It's similar to Hyperdimension Neptunia Re;Birth where emphasis is on chaining combos at a fast pace …

I definetly recommend it for people that like RPG's and fans of the previous games. The combat has improved a lot,and it's much faster now,i think the game has improved quite a bit and it even has some minigames now. If you enjoyed the previous games i'm sure you will be pleased with this one.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Agarest: Generations of War 2 is the third instalment in the series and makes some fresh changes compared to the previous titles. For people new to the series, it has rather heavy focus on storyline and character events so you can expect to go through a lot of dialogue. On the other side you also get increasingly challenging fights and multitude of ways to strengthen your party members as the game goes on. From the previous games it retains the datingsim/marriage system where the player ends…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Having played all the agarest games on both PS3 and PC I do have to say that I love all of them. This game was a change but the gameplay is nice. The only reason I wouldn't recommend this to people over the PS3 version is that it is censored. The puritanical ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ in recent years despite the world collectively becoming more mature is ridiculous. Companies need to learn that censorship in any form is wrong.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Agarest 2 is the third installment of the Agarest series. The game uses the same "Universe" but has a totally new story and battle system. The battle system (to me) feels something like Tales of Graces mixed with turn based combat. At first, it is confusing and I must admit it is just button mashing whichever you think does the most damage or fastest to end battles faster (down/A is the fastest btw). During the first generation of the game you will gain new combat abilities and skills which…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I wanna recommend this game so much, I really do as I love the franchise and all its games even Marriage but Ghostlight's usage of the watered down censored EU version which includes the complete and utter removal of one of the game's DLC characters who is a franchise staple should not be tolerated. If you are curious about the game just emulate the US PS3 version or get the collection with with all four just so you have the excuse "I only bought it for 1 and Zero."

And from the guide to true ending I use in PS version, censored version remove a event that is required for true ending. (you won't get enough heart/relationship point for the character to actually care enough to help you at the end and reach that ending.) I do not know if they care enough to add extra heart to other event to compensate for that. EDIT: there seem to be a newer version of the guide on Steam user guide that…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →You can see my full review of it here: http://youtu.be/C-kAHlw5ev8 The game is set in a parallel universe to the other two games but with a very similar story so you will instantly know what is going to happen. The battle system has been changed quite a bit, there is less strategy elements involved but they have focused on making it quite a bit faster by tying your characters skills to 4 keys: (L) for ranged attacks. (K) for down attacks. (J) For stun attack. (I) for Burst attacks. This…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Over Complex yet generic battle system that last too long and offer no challenge. The game is a long winded snoozefest of a game. The plot is alright but the combat is too boring to keep me interested in finding out what's going to happen next. I can say if you are a fan of the first one you'll like it. But if you're a fan of good turn based rpgs, I would pass this one up or wait for it to go on an even lesser price.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Trying..... But still falls flat My exposure to the Agarest series has been quite long. In fact from the very first Generations of War, up until ZERO and now this. This installment was supposed to be the defining chapter for the series and to me, it fell quite short in very many ways. For every positive outlined below, there will almost certainly be an overbearing glaring negative. To begin with the new animated character portraits during spoken dialogue mark a fascinating turn for the series…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →RPG aspect: First of all, I've read a lot of reviews about this game being incredibly repetitive and just ignored them, since I thought "It's an RPG! Of course it will be repetitive to some extent!". But I was being too optimistic. This game is incredibly repetitive BECAUSE every single battle feels the exact same. You obviously don't but it honestly feels like you're fighting the same character(s) in the same location. Now one thing that I can say honestly is every battle plays out the exact…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I was in the beta (and I'm currenly in the middle of gen2) This port is perfect (at least for me), 1080P 60fps with a 760gtx (but should run on a toaster without problems) Ps3 version was apparently quite unplayable. I played the 2 other agarests game on steam and this one is clearly the best. It's true that the battle system SEEMS too complex in the beginning because you don't have enough skill choices but it becomes interesting later on (Gen 1~ middle). It still contains a lot of…

Pros : - good story - really really really long gameplay - some pretty decent waifu cons : - awful minigame - Combat system takes a while to understand anyway if u enjoy jrpg games you should totally give this game a go. Be wary of normal end!!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →When you play a game do you like to play all the content on a single playthrough? Do you like the freedom to make a choice when given an opportunity to do so? Do you hate to follow tedious step by step instructions in order to enjoy all the game content? If all this is true then you will hate this game like I did. In order to get the " true ending" end game content, events have to follow a specific order that is not intuitive or logical. Even if you follow a step by step guide it is still…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Still waiting for GL to give us the NA version instead of the EU version for this game. So far I can't recomend this game, and won't play it until they fix this mess already. Besides if they did fix this then I'd play it and give it an honest review this game should deserve. But, for now just lurk on the forums here since that's all that can be done right now.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →DO NOT BUY... First hour literally was mainly a book and cut scenes. Battles are one button combinations of whoop dee do. After 1.5 hours I was still not out of the tutorial but reading more cut scenes. I literally said ♥♥♥♥ this and tossed my controller. This is another example of why you shouldn't preorder.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Disappointing. That's the word that best sums up the game for me. I wish I had waited to purchase the game rather than pick it up on sale. Things disliked. 1. Odd purple tint to all the characters and backgrounds. It gives the backgrounds a washed out feel and the makes the characters' skin tones take on a ghoulish cast. No idea what the intent was - a faux retro feel, a throw back nod to the days of CGA monitors. Whatever the reason, looks awful. As I can't think of any reason…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →While this title is still inferior to the original Record of Agarest War (not Zero), it still is MUCH more fulfilling than Zero was, that is for certain and while it doesn't surpass the original Record of Agarest War, it still is better than Zero. All-in-all I have to give this a solid 8/10 since, unlike Zero, it doesn't hold anything back like in Digest RoAW on Zero (screw you non-existent Bride choice >_< ), you can have the chance to face the true sources of woe in Agarest in this AU story…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The developer provided a key to Original Group for the purpose of this review. This is a difficult game to write about. What it does, it does very well for the most part. It's just that "what it does" may not appeal to a broad audience. This Agarest game has the sort of epic, sweeping plot we expect from JRPGs, complete with deicide, ancient mysteries, untapped powers, and (of course) amnesia. The amnesia on the part of the rather unlikable protagonist makes it easy for a player to jump in…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The final episode of the Agarest Trilogy, this game doesn't fall under the same world as with the first 2 games, where Agarest Zero is the prequel and Agarest Generations of War is the beginning more or less. If you like a game with quite a decent story, nicely drawn characters and a great OST then by all means give this Strategic/Tactical JRPG out.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Boring gameplay and terrible plot. Also, so many missables and obscure checks that you should follow a guide to the dot or else it ends up being a giant disappointment. Actually, you should really just return the game if you bought it because you're probably never going to beat it.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I found the gameplay changes here to be a significant downgrade from the rest of the series and when I did play it - a while back - i was running into bugs. While the other games in the series had a unique gameplay set up and tactical feel, Agarest 2 does some weird things that I don't think work as well and devalue to some extent player placement. Additionally, the story and writing feel like they are doing the same thing with little changes with many of the characters being essentially…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Third entry in the Agarest SRPG series and the best one yet! Agarest: Generations of War 2 improves upon the previous two titles in the series and adds more depth and character flavor then ever before along with improved visuals, improved story and revamped battle system. Ghostlight did a wonderful job of getting the game to run at 60fps and fix all the glaring issues the PS3 version had such as very slow loading times and fps drops. I highly recommend this game if your a fan of SRPG and…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Good luck getting the "True End" for this game. Prepare to spend hours doing nothing, having regrets, and restarting. I've already thrown 21 hours into this game, and I've restarted nearly 3 times. The Bath house minigames are the worst. Prepare to get angry at the images of nearly naked girls.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I absolutely recommend this game to JRPG fans. Of course it's not without its cons (every game has them), but something to keep in mind is that it's extremely good and easily appreciated for a 3 year old niche game. Favourite part of the game: • As always in the Agarest series, it has the incredible aspect of "you will naturally end up with the one you like more if you choose options you normally would". --> A lot of people make a claim that this is deterred by the desire to reach the "true…

Then, you’ll be killing gods. … I’m not going to lie, killing gods is a lot of work. Info • Intricate battle system. Some have complained that it’s complicated. I don’t find it to be complicated; it’s easy to learn. You don’t have to use all the various skills the game puts out there, if it’s overwhelming to you. The game wants you to strategize despite it no longer being a true strategy RPG like the first…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Not to far in to the game yet but so far it is awesome improvement on the last two. While still having all the parts you probably loved.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Did you enjoy the previous games? Then delight as this new entry into the series completely forgoes the core of the previous games to deliver you a thoughtless battle system which world bore even the therapist you'll need to get after using it. But maybe you weren't in it for the combat, you were in it for the "plot". Then they've got you covered, more autistic character designs, blander characters, a story that was inspired by that fanfic you wrote back in 9th grade, incomprehensible…

As a total layman of JRPG games (yes, I've never played this type of production before) I got interested in it mainly because I was able to get this production for free in addition it was in manga style, which of course as a die-hard fan of manga, tentacles and such, I had to check out. I played the first two hours and got sucked in for another 30, which is probably the…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I really wanted to like and recommed this game as it is niche, bit I was put off by many issues. First, there is no auto-battle option as in the first two games and the battle system is a bit unnessarily complicated. Although I liked its graphics and waifus, its minigames which are very important for the true end are too difficult. While they are fun, they should not play a role in getting the true end, which is very demanding to obtain and requires literal adherence to a very detailed…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Pros: + Great Story even though kinda same from previous games. + Has Multiple Endings. + Great soundtrack. + Battle or combo system more easy to understand compare to previous games. + Cool in game CGs. + Great Voice Acting. Cons: - So many Recycled Enemy from previous games <=== devs team kinda lazy to make new enemies/monsters - Too Grindy - So many missable event if you don't follow TRUE END Guide!!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Honestly I tried really hard to like this game because is part of my favorite series and I loved 1 and Zero so much but I just can't bring myself to like this specific game in the series. The problem is that its missing everything that made the first two games so great and it falls short of being an enjoyable experience and more tedious than anything else. Lots of times I find myself backtracking just to get the True Ending by making sure I killed a certain amount of monsters. The issue is that…

Proceed with research in hand before contemplating whether you should buy it (MasterLL's channel has a playthrough of the PS3 version of his youtube channel if you want to see the game in action.) Full thoughts Ok so this is a weird one. The game has a fun combat system that can take a little time to get your head around. The flashy attacks, and fluid sprite animations are a joy on the…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A game really for the hardcore JRPG addicts out there, Agarest: Generations of War 2 is a mixed bag of results. The combat systems is well done for the genre, which is critical since the gameplay follows a linear schematic of running between cutscenes/dialogue sequences with battles sprinkled in there. There is not a whole lot of room for exploration. While that is not necessarily a bad thing (linear stories can be very strong and very well done), the main plot seems a bit repetitive even in…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →So far i love it great story just like the others :3
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →8 Years Later... This game ages somewhat decently. If any of you is ever considering this game and the other installments of this series, I totally recommend them. These types of games back in the day were great JRPGs during the 360/PS3 days. There may be Final Fantasy and other notable games, but this stood out as one of those games with a relationship system, having descendants and diverse abilities.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I tried to give this game several chances and it just is not good. Ghostlight has this really bad habit of designing cool looking characters to draw me in, then making said characters be in a game that is just awful. Everything about playing this game is a chore and just not fun. You give me a cool main character that has to go on a quest with a fairly interesting plot, and just ♥♥♥♥ all over it with the most boring and tedious gameplay. Battles aren't satisfying, and are overly complicated.…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Still getting the hang of the controls this time around and it feels more simplistic than Agarest 1 & Zero, but I've enjoyed it so far. I'd recommend it to everyone that's enjoyed the series and I'd agree with the Waifu Hunter (Curator) in regards to being a contender for Waifus of the Year. A very powerful contender ready to blow the competition away from day one.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Worse than the other two. Boring unskippable tutorials and absolutely no direction. You never know what you have to do just to get the next "event" sign to appear somewhere, and then you know you're in for another series of the most boring fights you've ever had to sit through. There's no strategy, you hit an attack button until you run out of ap, and then the enemy attacks you. You don't even control moving about the area in the fight, it is nothing like the first two. negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Honestly, completely terrible compared to the first. The story seems interesting but its completely buried alive, in almost literal degree, by an avalanche of grinding through terrible canon fodder unskippable battles and an absolutely worthless and over-complicated battle system with absolute s h i t controls which the battles absolutely abysmal to go through, making the game an utter chore. Unless you've been honestly lobotomized I cannnot recommend this game at all. With the over-complicated…
