Some find the game repetitive and grindy. [1][2][3]

I like this game. The combat system is really interesting and cool. the character designs are great. The characters themselves are pretty cool. The storyline and setting are great. It's really repetitive. It's really repetitive. I'ts reeeeaaaallllyyyy repetitive. Every battle is basically the same throughout the whole game, just with different monsters. Having a hankering for a RPG I ended up picking up this title to scratch the urge. Am I disappointed? Yes. The storyline is bland and generic and offers nothing intriguing or exciting to the player. At this stage I barely know what my goal is (other than looking after Mimel and picking up more (female) characters to add to my party) and I've no desire to find out. The parts that talk about the storyline are tedious …

As with the Origional, Zero is a true work of art. The Generation system is vastly improved from the original, and the affection system adds its own level of stratagy. The gameplay, while at first glance appears simple, is, in a word, "Multi-Layered". Mastering Esoterica and Combination arts is key to not only surviving some of the most difficult battles, but also recieving some of the best items in the game. With …

Short summary: This is an amazing turn based strategy game with unique weapons, and a huge variety of characters and unlockable skills. This game is similair to fire emblem combat system, and has a cliche but an entertaining story. There are several events, and incorporates the oh so common dating sims the japanese love as well. One of the best part of the game is without a doubt, the creation of your character, …

5/10 Agarest Zero is the prequel to Agarest: Generations of War. People who played the old Agarest will find that a few things have changed. Starting with the good improvements. A fast-forward option during dialogue, fully turn-based dungeons with no more analog crawling or suprise encounters, and a slightly more informative esoteric book. A simplified version of the original Agarest is build into the game, and can …

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is more of a soft no than a hard one (wish there was a rating system honestly.) The games okay, I rather like the graphics for the most part, and the plot and characters make me want to keep playing. That said the combat is what is making me uninstall it. Just not my thing, and I love these type games. I'll be honest and say that some of this is probably due to my only 4 hours of play time. But for starters, ingame it is rather poorly explained what the differences between the skills…

neutral · AI labelView post →Wonderful JRPG originally released in 2009 for the PS3. It follows the typical JRPG formula from that time consisting of a brilliant story, memorable cast of characters, creative combat mechanics, and an addictive progression system. The combat style is turn-based strategy allowing for flexibility in achieving victory. If you were a hardcore JRPG fan back in the day, this one's worth the nostalgia trip. For new players, the systems may seem dated, but it is still a great game.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Pro - Good Storyline. - Nice Japanese Characters' Sound. - Great Skill Animations and Many Combination Attacks. Well done ! - Character Creation. (This feature is not in the first game of this series.) - Good Artworks. - Game Systems is not too hard to Understand. - Cursor offsets (Left and Right). Well this is good option. (Should be on the first game too) - New Affection Icon. (Easier to understand but less feeling) - New Dungeon System (Easier to explore) - Two ways ending - Secret…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Its my first game from Agarest series, the control is pretty confusing at first, but can be learned pretty fast. Got good story, 'plots', Voice Actor is very good, the jokes is hillarious, and of course bunch of waifus waiting for u to choose 'em. Nuff said, Kawaiifu's hwaiting! 10/10 will kill God again
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Do you like anime? visual novel-like story telling? game difficulty with a curve akin to right angle? Well do I have a game for you. Jist: Turn-based jrpg focused on creating skill combos with your entire team. Oh and kawaii desu anime stuff, full on vn story telling even get to pick a girl to marry. Pros: •tactical jrpg •anime, that is a pro. right? •the plot and style of the game series has always been very good. •character variety •main character creation Cons: •difficulty will give you…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If you like torturing yourself with bad story, repetitive combat, and rock metal riffs on 20 second loops then Agarest: Zero is the game for you. Playing this game is nothing less than a face-melting chore. Even the harem of wanton anime chicks you gather on your forgettable escapade do nothing to make the experience less excruciating. What's even more painful is how obvious it is that the game wants to be some intense strategy RPG. Agarest is a prime example on how flashy combos and…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The Agarest Senki/Agarest War series was always a little out of my comfort zone when it came to RPGs, mostly due to the strategy involved in the fights. Thankfully, they made it easy to figure who to place where to maximize your combo efficiency in battle, plus learning new Secret Arts through trial and error has been a blast! This is technically the first game in the series, chronologically, but the second game to have been made. This one is a lot more forgiving than the first by means of…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The fun part of the first Agarest was the whole 5 generations mechanic, in wich at the end of each one you chose a bride to give birth to the protagonist of the next generation. Agarest Zero only has 2 generations meaning only one choice. The characters in this one felt really boring and bland when compared to the ones in the first game too. This one has a digested version of the first game wich doesn't allow you any meaningful choices and feels more like padding for a game that's already…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This tactics-based game is an improvement over Generations, the overly long first game the series. It is shorter, the UI easier to manage, and crafting elements are more straight-forward. My main complaint is the series still doesn't know what it wants to be. The developer packed so many side-elements into the game that they become chores to manage. They must have been working with a checklist; capturing monsters-check, grinding-got it, unlocking crafting levels-yup. It is tiring and takes…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Agarest: Generation of War Zero is a prequel the Agarest: Generation of war game that came out back in the 2007. If you played the other agarest series you know what you’re going into but if you haven’t well lets just say it’s gonna be pretty interesting. Now onto the breakdows: The Pros (+) Tons of skills combination to choose from This is self-explanatory I think. As you progress the story and complete side quest you will unlock more skills to improve you’re party. Always check the…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Pros: + Has a quite nice story although the plot is still kinda same from the previous title + So many Waifus to choose (Each Generations have at least 3 waifus) + Has a multiple Endings + Great Voice Acting + The Gameplay quite nice Cons: - Still suffering from microstutter - Too Grindy - The devs too lazy to add new monsters so many recycled monster from previous titles
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is a very linear game with little to no side quest features that I've seen unless you want to count the occasional "Vacation Day" where you go around town trying to get the girls in your party to like you or the intermittent "events" that pop up which give you a choice that affects how some of the different girls in your party look at you. Everyone talks about how long this game is but most of that is dialogue and a vary large majority of the rest is battle time. You go from one…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's a good game with only one problem. The freebie items they include, IF you activate them, will really ruin the game for you, and there's nothing to indicate whether you should activate them. Your first assumption is probably like mine- that the items will be either cosmetic or balanced in nature, and won't ruin the gameplay at all. They are essentially enough to make the entire game VERY easy aside for some of the late game stuff, though, so beware. Buy it. Play it. Don't activate the…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's a Great game reminds me with Wild arms and Legaia dual saga in PS2
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →To be honest, it is really overpriced. There are few bugs that I noticed but nothing major like MC having sword in cut scenes when you use a scythe. The tutorial is skelet, only the bare minimum but it's not a big problem for me, but for other it might be since some stuff is really hard to figure out: what you do with a book you purchase (exmpl: Smithing 101). You can't use it, can't learn it, can't equip it so I still don't know how to do it. The biggest downer for me is (and main reason for…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is a prequel to the game "Agarest: Generations of War" and it has ABSOLUTELY same advantages and disadvantages. Fights are boring as in original game, but the story, talking and relationships parts are still excellent. Unfortunately, this game is shorter than original (2 generations against 5), but it is still very interesting to play and develop world and relationships with heroines. P.S. I think that it doesn't matter if you play this game before or after playing Agarest:GoW, because I…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game reminds me of Fire Emblem a game way back in the days. I played all of them and beat them and it was one of my fav turn based games. This game is pretty much like that when it comes to turn base. The story line to this game is funny. Over all if you like turn based games with some strategy and like anime i would recommend this game.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Lacks the generational mechanic of the first game, which was the appeal that made up for the grind.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Agarest War Zero is little more than another heaping helping of Agarest, and as such has a very specific appeal to it. While I think a lot of its streamlining is in theory moving in the right direction, the actual pacing problem hasn't been addressed very well at all. It's not a bad game, and I think that you again get quite a lot of gameplay for your money here, but I'd caution any prospective buyer to consider if that's really what they're looking for. It's not quite the game that the first…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I love this game, BUT you need to ignore Character creation and google for good builds. Unless you wanna waste your time trying to find 1 really good build out of the 53,000+ weapon card combinations for each class card.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →simple , nice ,and wonderfull i love agarest series game story never out of the box
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Same problem here, what was with the 1st game. They upgraded the visual novel part, and the overall graphics but left the the combat system completly untouched! Battle quickly become really boring, and the UI and the system it self is still unfinished! Unless they add a feature to skip the whole RPG part altogether, dont buy it, because you have to suffer through much, to get to the good bits, which are the VN part of the game.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Anime-style characters with fully Japanese voice-acting Great Combat and excellent Story-line What are u waiting for ? Get all those kawaii waifus !
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It serves as a pretty good prequel to 'Generations of War' and it holds up pretty well. Sure, it's very lengthy, but if you are really into JRPGs or RPGs in general, you probably won't mind. Good battle system, and decent storyline.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →OMG there is just soo much talking, i am 3 and half hours into this game, and it just one conversation after another, then they sit there and talk to other party members of the same story. But all in all the game does seem fun so far and i will keep playing
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Buy on sale maybe. Not incredibly fun but good for some time killing or if you really like this type of game. Pros + Looks nice + Waifus + Solid, though pretty standard, combat Cons - Repetitive - Boring at times
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Reminds me Alot of Fire Emblem with turn based strategy and a afinity chart. On lower difficulty levels grinding isnt really necessary so if you just want the story without worry about combat you can still enjoy it. Characters are enjoyable and have a variety of personalitys. The break days are a nice way to get to know the girl characters and i personally enjoyed them. As i said the game reminds me alot of Fire Emblem and if you are a fan of it or simular games I would definitely recomend…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Lets See I would only recommend this game to the die hard fans of Agarest. 1st time playing Zero, its very hard, you have to grind hard between the 2 generations. Theres also a digest mode where you play the original Agarest (which means, you get to play with 2 characters from the original and you'll be playing through 100% of the story). Features remain the same, same Attacks, Spells & Items. Totally different story, Its kinda pointless playing digest mode unless there was something…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Agarest zero pretty much will make you memorize alot because of the battle system and item creation. Overall if you have alot of time and want to play a jrpg then go for this or play the first game first
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Well I finally beat the game and got the Normal Ending for Record of Agarest War Zero, which is a downer If I ever play another one of these Agarest games, it's going to have to be on a handheld console (for grinding mindlessly) and with a guide (to get really anywhere with the story)
neutral · AI labelView post →Still in the middle of Record of Agarest War Zero, stuck at a hard stopping point for grinding after the timeskip It’s the first Agarest game I’ve played, and from everything I’m seeing online, this one has a bunch of QOL improvements to be easier than the first one, soooo yeesh

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Pros + Variety of skill combinations + One can get some nice bonus if you have a save state of Agarest: Generations of War + Dating-Sim + Skip-Dialogue-Function Contra - The battle system feels tedious and gets boring quickly. You will be in battle 90% of the time. - Ended up using only a small set of skill combinations. - Dialogues/Story somewhat bland - Grindy achievements. - Overall grind (means more battles...) - Later everything can 1-shot you, escpecially bosses. I wish there is a…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is ok. The storyline is fine, and the combat's good as the first one. However, after a while, it gets very repetitive. It feels like a task to do every battle. As much as I enjoyed as far as I got in it i cant recmmened it 5/10
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Before I start, this is my first time playing any of the Agarest: Gernations of War. This game truely is fine developed game although I did incounter a bug which truely screwed me over and I'm upset that one little bug screwed 30mins of gameplay that I now have to redo. I'll leave detail about the bug that occured after I list my pros and cons. Pros - Potential Mate for Future Generations. - Combat reminds me of a Final Fantasy - Soundtrack is like Dragon Ball - Steam Badges "For Badge…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I don't think I've seen or played a worse tactical turn based isometric RPG in my ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ life. From the top: -Art is ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ atrocious. Muppet mouths, creepy soulless eyes even for an anime character, sprites have very rudimentary animation, shortcuts everywhere. No character even has a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ walk cycle. They float around on the battlefield. Attacks are only animated from one direction. In short, it looks like ♥♥♥♥. -Music is confusingly bad. Very generic bad rock music one moment,…

neutral · AI labelView post →25. Ellis (Agarest Generations of War) I really did not enjoy this game, but there were some real cute characters in it. I remember Ellis rewiring my brain in high school.
negative · AI labelView post →Might sound funny it's usually the older titles. The longest I have waited for was Spellforce Platinum Edition. It always ran sluggish, now it probably runs better than on Windows. Another one was Agarest, it was kinda playable but with too much hassle. Well, I usually play older stuff anyway. Surprisingly I almost never had problems with new games. Maybe only Hell Let Loose but it was an anti-cheat issue.
negative · AI labelView post →Started updating the CV, it's err.. been a while. The last version was made shortly after the release of our first PS3 game (Agarest: Generations of War) and included a fair few Midas releases.
neutral · AI labelView post →This is basically the first game, but with trashy characters, story and visual design. Also, true ending now depends on your relationships with characters, which means zero freedom and one hundred percent boredom. If you never played Agarest for its combat, then this game got absolutely nothing to offer you.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is, easily, the worst game I've ever tried. I beat Agarest: Generations of War, and while that was a trial because the combat system is really, really bad, obnoxious and boring, I loved everything else about that game; I loved the theme, I loved the writing, the characters, the overall tone of the game and the music. I cannot say the same for this game at all. First of all, the Live2D in this game is awful and is really awkward. It just doesn't work and ruins each and every portrait in…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is a Tactical RPG, with an affection system with several female members. The main problem with this game is that the heart of the gameplay, the tactical fighting is incredibly boring. Each battle is set on a board delimited with squares (which is usually the norm) and each character has "combo tiles" linked with them. That means that if another character is staying in one of those, you can chain both characters and possibly chain skills which become even better skills. Sounds cool…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I recommend this game only to people who played first Agarest game and actually enjoyed it. This prequel has a lot of improvements that will satisfy Agarest fans, yet suffers from the same problems first game did - repetitiveness, big yet empty and dull world, a lot of grind, flat and predictable characters. Apparently some users have stability issues with it as well. I was willing to give this game a chance at first, but crashes every 2-3 battles quickly convinced me otherwise.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Pros: Good Story. (A lot of text, don't buy it if you dislike reading) Good Artwork. Dungeon System. Affection System. Battle System. (Combo System <3) Digest Mode. Con: Too much DLC. (You can finish the game without any DLC of course.) Review: Story 8/10: I personally liked the story but, as saying before it as a lot of text! If you like Visual Novels / Tactical RPG, then this game is for you, otherwise it's better to pass this game. Gameplay 8/10: The difficulty of the game isn't that…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →More of a soft no than a hard one (if this was a 1-10 type rating system I would give it around a 6/10). The combat system seems like it would be interesting, but you start out the game so overpowered it hasn't caught my interest as there is no time to even take damage since you overkill everything accidently. I've been finding it hard to continue to play since the characters and story either so bland or so over the top that it is difficult to care. I find myself dreading any 'events', but…
