What players are saying
Counted from the reviewers’ own thumbs up/down on the 187 English Steam reviews we collected, not by the AI. Valve’s all-language rating: Very Positive (2,086 of 2,410 positive).
Players praise the unique concept of building and balancing a flying city. [1][2][3] Some find the game short and lacking replayability. [4][5][6] Several reviewers note usability issues and a lack of depth. [7][8][9]

It is fairly close to being a decent game, but it kinda misses the mark. There are so many completely unnecessary usability problems in this game... There is no worker priority system. You cannot turn buildings off. If you do not have enough workers you will have to raze buildings to get available workers for harvesting resources or special jobs again (and that happens a lot because when your city levels up you …

Airborne Kingdom is an Arabian-inspired steampunk city-building game that brings a refreshing twist to the genre. Instead of expanding across land, you construct an entire airship colony in the sky, where keeping your city afloat is as important as growing it. Every building affects weight distribution, coal must be carefully managed to maintain lift and new machinery is required to increase propulsion and stability …

Airborne Kingdom: Cozy and Forgettable Airborne Kingdom (AK) is one of those games where the steam Thumb Up/Down verdict doesn't quite fit. It's a decent little game to be sure but if you're evaluating this on a 1-10 scale this game is about a 7, considerably lower than the 87% positive rating at the time of this review. Worth your time? Sure. Worth the asking price? Heck no. AK's premise is that your group has …

A short and sweet city builder. Relatively easy, relatively chill, but also relatively novel. Good for first time players since it's not particularly threatening or challenging, but fans of building games like this might find the unique challenges of an airborne base neat! Mechanics like tilt and propulsion are just something you'd never be forced to consider in other games but here they're a constant threat that …

This game contains NO combat of any kind. All you do is fly around in a floating town and solve everyone's problems. But, just the fact that this town floats creates all manner of unique challenges and opportunities. For one, the engines MUST RUN. At all times. If the engines EVER run out of coal, you run out of life, as your precious floating kingdom plumets from the sky into the cold, unforgiving earth. On top of …

PC Gamer called it a "smart, hypnotic city builder that won't leave you tearing out your hair". PC Gamer generally enjoyed the game's relaxing gameplay, though they said the campaign to unite the world was a bit easy. Although describing it as a "lovely, mildly experimental city sim",…

neutral · AI labelView post →The idea is not bad, but it's not fully developed the neither as a city builder: it lacks depth; some buildings where never a necessity because when I got it I already had better ones; resources are not that scarce to justify all the upgrades of production cost; using workers as a resource is ok, but you cannot reassign them without destroying buildings which makes no sense to me, etc, or as a rpg: ok, it has missions and you look for some things on the map ... just that. Art style is ok but…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I wanted to like it. The game feels like a proof of concept for an engine. Making cities is fun, and the game is pretty and has a consistent art style. If you're looking for stuff to do, there aren't all that many ways to complete the tasks or game objectives - there's essentially one way to do most of the tasks in the game. For example, if your citizens need water, you have to find it nearby, trade for it, or build a water condenser. That's it. Need food? Find it nearby, trade for it, or…

Set in a steampunk-inspired world where floating cities soar above a barren, windswept land, it combines strategic resource management with exploration and storytelling. But what makes it truly special is the sense of freedom it gives you: the ability to design and maintain a city in the sky while uncovering a world rich with mystery…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's a little too simple and a little too short to recommend. It's OK when you're playing it, but you don't get a lot of value for your money unless you got it as part of a bundle or at a steep discount. The main innovation is that you have a flying city. It's a city builder where you're roaming the landscape, constantly scavenging food, water, and resources. Most city builders have moderately complex simulation of the citizens; Airborne Kingdom doesn't, beyond having them walk to construction…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game was just... pointless. Survival aspects are shallow, research tree is shallow, story is shallow, base building was meh. There was some nice ideas with the flying city mechanic, the tilt on specific angles etc but it wasn't enough to carry the game. The time in this game is spent just traversing the map that's full of nothing:tm: The short couple sentences of story is not worth spending hours on this game. I really don't see how is this game very positive when real base building…

neutral · AI labelView post →Howl's Moving Castle, THE GAME. Avoiding any other movie memes, this game is enjoyable, but also completely boring at times. While I do love the art and the playfulness here I also wish there was much MUCH more to do, or something other than my own attempts at floating city Jenga to keep myself occupied with. The story plot is simple enough, you are on a quest to revive a once legendary kingdom to restore peace or something once more. 100% while in the sky you speak to those who cannot fly,…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Repetitive doesn't really have any meaningful negative pressure feel like falling asleep playing it.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Doesn't really have any meaningful negative pressure. Food, and water, are too plentiful, and the other needs are easily solved by plopping down the appropriate buildings. The game could have benefited from things like fire, storms, lightning, strong winds, sickness, just anything to make survival more challenging. The main game mechanic is literally doing fetch quests after fetch quest for towns; you never do anything more interesting. Despite the above its OK enough, I would probably have…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is a very good looking game, with a relaxed vibe and forgiving mechanics, but it wasn't really for me. At 8 hours I've played through about 2/3rds of the game (not entirely certain, but I had allied with 2/3rds of the required city states) and while it has a relaxed vibe to it, at the point I stopped, it was asking me to do more with my flying town with fewer resources to do it with, which put me off. It's one thing to either ask the player to do more as the game progresses or to ask…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →For the record, I feel guilty giving this game a thumbs down. This is a where I wish there was an option for "Neutral." The fundamental twist on the classic "city-builder" is that it's tricky to balance (quite literally) a flying city. Placement of units (and moving existing units) is incredibly important. Unfortunately, it's not a twist that interested me, as I discovered playing the game. I want to play a city builder, not a city balancer. Also, the pace is really leisurely. Absolutely…

neutral · AI labelView post →Eh. The first couple of hours is fine, but the loop of "find city, search area for their missing mcguffin, bring it back to city" gets very dull very fast. You can upgrade to make the loop a bit faster, but there's no real impetus to do that.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Played Sniper Elite V2. At first i thought it was the first Sniper Elite remade, but it's actually about the V2 missile program. Weird, I know. My best achievement in the game that for some silly reason isn't an achievement has to be randomly hitting an NPC in both testicles. Beats 3 heads in a row by a longshot. Wonder if one can hit 6 nuts in a row or might it be too much to ask for? ... Anyway, in Old World, Assyria declared war on me because I was weak and then spent dozens of years…

neutral · AI labelView post →Fun game. Unfortunately the developers 1) didn't realize for a LONG time that an update had made the Mac version of the game unplayable, and 2) when they finally noticed, instead of fixing the issue, they just removed the Mac version from the store. Basically, everyone who spent money on the game to play it on a Mac got shafted by the developers. I was really excited about trying the sequel Airborne Empire but I will never give these people another penny.

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This was a steal on sale! It was surprisingly easy to learn and pick up but there is a sharp difficulty increase in the dlc. The best thing about this game is that they made it easy to remodel your base. There's probably about 7 hours of content in the main game with 2 hours of dlc. The only thing bad I can say is that some of these achievements look truly cursed. This one is probably going to stay unfinished for awhile.

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A game I'd give a maybe? On a hard discount, I think. There's nothing wrong with the game, but it's nothing really special. The concept is interesting and the story is nice, but the gameplay didn't really stick the landing. The balancing of resource management, especially on hard mode, is particularly sadistic, especially if you are thinking of tackling the DLC. Again, a hard maybe.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Not the longest story but also not the most expensive game. Story is ok but mostly the fun comes from a game with a city build mechanic like no other, making sure the city does not tilt as you increase the size is a fun challenge.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This was a fun city builder, unique, original approach, and game mechanics are solid. Only gripe is that you can finish the game in 10 hours, and then its the same thing on NG+
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Airborne kingdom isn't a particularly difficult game nor a particularly beautiful one but it is particularly repetitive and tedious. At first it starts out somewhat fun but then you realize that the resources you require are plentiful and that there really isn't much else to do other than some fetch quests and flying around a rather dull map. There aren't even any choices to make, you just go along with whatever the textbox tells you to. The city building adds a layer of complexity but is…

Ignore the reviews who complain that it's too hard to maintain the city it's all about planning ahead. If you're looking for slow paced and deliberate decision making this game is perfect for you, the artstyle is unique and doesn't get boring.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Really entertaining game, an amazing strategy + citybuilding mixture with a wonderful art style. Maybe it lacks a few more hours of content but there is some fun difficulty and decent replayability. Really recommended!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Its pretty neat, but it lacks depth in all areas. What you will see in the first 1-2 hours is all there is and the rest is basically repetition. Production chains are very simple, population management is simple, resource management is simple, story and quests are simple, controls are limited, even the visuals and soundtrack are somewhat too simple/limited. The customization options seem varied, but I didnt like them and I dont think you can build those giant metropolises in the sky given…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This city-building game offers a refreshing and engaging experience for players looking to construct and manage their own flying city. I took my time exploring its mechanics, researching optimal technologies, and ultimately completed the main game—along with all additional unlocks—within approximately 15 hours. positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Haven't been playing much this week yet. I guess Airborne Kingdom relaxed me too much and I felt the need to mellow down for a while longer. Someone shared Grounded with me to try it out, but I haven't felt the desire to give it a go for now. Maybe by weekend time I'll be in the mood to feel tiny and fight giant, scary bugs/spiders.
positive · AI labelView post →Very short, very simple, not much replay value. But I also got it for a reasonable value on a sale. So I guess I got my values worth I suppose... It has some cool original concepts, though never really manages to fully make the most of them. Apparently there is a DLC, but I can find absolutely no trace of it in my Steam shop or on the game's library section. Not available in my region or something? /shrug
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Playable, but fairly miserable on Steam Deck. The “Partial controller support” was apparently broken in an update and has never been fixed. You can just manage using Keyboard and Mouse control template, but it’s not a great time. Text is incredibly tiny, with no scaling options. If the devs would only fix the controls and add some settings for UI adjustment, this could be really nice on deck, but they seem uninterested in working on this any further.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Honestly I had a lot of fun with this game. Needing to literally balance the kingdom added an interesting element, along with managing everything else such as resources and happiness. Unfortunately I thought I was ready to head to the far north, and boy was I wrong about that.
