As much as I want to say "its rough but there's something here" I really can't justify recommending this to anyone. The main mechanic is placing buildings into little tetrominos to earn extra points while balancing the need to expand outward and collect the random bonuses. Sounds cool enough? But that's about as far as the game takes it and there's so much to dislike about this game. The board is so obtuse and hard …

Such a mix of strong and weak elements. Most have been mentioned in other reviews, so I'll be brief. The story takes about three hours to finish and is not difficult. Take that as good or bad, according to taste. Good: Most of the artwork has the right retro art deco futurism style, and the visual depth and details look good. Fun while it lasts, it lacks a lot of replayability as there are only so many events to find and after you complete the main story, you've seen the best it has to offer. additional story content would've elevated it as well, but for five dollars it was an excellent game and easy recommend, 8/10

This game cost me less than $2 on sale and now having played it, I'd have been more than willing to play the full paltry price. I absolutely love the Metropolis inspired art-deco style. But the art is not the only Metropolis reference- though here Futura (Iris in this game) is the attempted mediator rather than the antagonist.

I just expected more from a game with such a high score on steam, but i guess a lot of people rate based on price to quality ratio, sure you can't expect much from a 5$ game, but i will rate the game overall and not money worths value. To put it simple the game just falls short of expectations. There just is not enough of different mechanics, the basic game loop is simple. It is captivating and keeps you glued in its quite addictive, but that is about it. It's like those candy crush games but…

All it knows is what it is not | KAMGUSTA's MINI REVIEW This is not a city-building game. I repeat, this is not a city-building game. It's neither a deck-builder game. It's more like a rogue-lite puzzle game. You try to build a perfect city, but you won't succeed. Then you restart with new buildings and objectives. You'll follow a written story with 4 acts. Soundtrack is nice. Graphics are just okay (colors of the buildings are easily mistaken). Gameplay is okay (you can't undo a move). That's…

The game is dead. It looks pretty and has tremendous potential, but the devs stopped working on it long before it was really a full game. The game system is very opaque- everything must be done with precision but there is very little information about what the effects of each action will be. I suppose that if I was being paid to chart out all the effects of every thing I could figure it out, but it's just not fun. And it's not going to be, because they've stopped development. Good thing I got…

I randomly came across it again today and it raised the question in my mind; how should you rate a perfectly fine but forgettable game? Looking for a card game cosplaying as a city manager with almost zero deck-building elements that has no win condition and is effectively designed for you to fail? Then Technotopia may be for you. I also only realized after writing this that it retails for $5. My bad. You're an AI created to make a "perfect city" that works equally for everyone: government, elites, merchants, workers. In gameplay it means the needs of the 1% elite (space, resources, etc) are identical to those of the 90%…

So this is the good bones of a game that doesn't exist. There are so many quality of life features, a story that needs way more than its got, a reason to care about "quest" progression... And it has none of this. I would say that this game feels more like an early access alpha version. You make a mistake? It's made for life. Cards take 2-3 clicks to get them to respond. Movement is cludgy. It's hard to tell what numbers are + or - because of the font. Honestly, I'm not sure how it made it to…

I beat this game in five hours while barely understanding it's economic and influence systems. For all it's talk about different factions and making combos out of placing certain buildings in certain places, in the end I beat the game by stringing random buildings together in straight lines until I encircled all four goals. If you're going to design your city-building, deck-building roguelite game around color coded factions, make sure the faction colors pop. Don't make one of the factions the…

Note that this game is not really a city builder, so much as it's basically a hybrid between 3D turn-based Tetris and a deck-based roguelike. It's a decent time waster with an interesting plot premise, suitable soundtrack and very beautiful Art Deco aesthetic (although the characters are largely forgettable). However, the main issue is that the game is far too short — it basically consists of a single gameplay loop wherein you keep building until the city becomes unsustainable; the level then…

A very hesitant recommendation. A cute little quick puzzle-y tile placement game. Cleared the story in under four hours, but there's not enough meat on those bones to really want to replay it after that. Quick note on the story: It feels really wild to be an AI optimist in 2024/5. The idea of an AI running a city is a literal nightmare in real life, and honestly kind of in this game as well if you think about it for more than two seconds. That said, I enjoyed it. This is one where I would give a neutral review if Steam allowed it. It's certainly not a bad a game at all. There were no bugs or jankyness with it; it does what it is designed to do very well. It's a very low stakes puzzle game, and the only incentive to "get good" is to get the last few elusive achievements. I didn't really understand what I was supposed to be doing for the first 3-4 hours, but I was progressing through the story anyway. It has a sneaky, game over-then start the next game…

Despite the devs not working on this, this game is still just the bare bones of a game that doesn't exist. The gameplay is both confusing and unforgiving. It's a puzzle game that you play for the story (the moral of which is pleasing everyone is hard lol), which makes the unforgiving and quick games repetitive and boring. Stay away from the game unless it's very on sale

I like tile laying games, so this is fairly enjoyable to me. the art style is nice. it took me about 1.5 hours of casual play to beat the entire story campaign and get about half of the achievements I was upset at first, but it turns out the "story line" is basically just a long tutorial, more or less. or maybe they want you to read the words, I don't know, but you keep doing free-play and unlocking things after it ends and the credits roll, so no problem.

At face value, the game introduces you to the idea of an AI that is building the perfect city. But the top-down, boardgame aesthetic is just a facade for a story entirely told through text. Once you finish the story, there is literally no reason to go back to "building" the city. There is no WIN condition, only a LOSE condition. You never actually build the best city. Interesting little city builder, yeah it is fairly basic and is all about keeping up the balance of four different flavours of happiness, but it builds upon itself really well. Often games like this will have a campaign that introduces a new mechanic every level or so, but the fundamentals of Technotopia never really change as you get deeper into the run, you just get more confident in placing buildings. There are things to be unlocked for sure, but they are all variations of 'surround this…

Yet another cozy city builder, based on the draw of cards, except on a larger scale than something like Sky Settlers, for example. You draw three cards at a time, each of which represents a building for a faction you can build. Make certain arrangements of the same building and you get extra points. These point tallies are then subtracted from at the end of each week until one of them reach zero - and the run is over. The story and goals are fairly engaging and a lot more interesting than…

Alawar have quietly released some real 'bang for your buck' games in recent times and this is one of them. A roguelite, deckbuilding citybuilder with politics, factions and a light puzzle element. And it all works. It looks great. A slick, glossy cyberpunk canvas and the cities glow as they grow. It is only at a macro level, there is no 'under the hood' city development and the main aim is to build as far as a node or a campaign progression point. But it works. I enjoyed the different…

I really enjoyed Technotopia. It isn't a game you play forever, but it is very fun to play. The story is as simple as good: It enables a frame for the gameplay but leaves you with leeway to decide yourself what you prioritise and when or even if you continue the story. Sometimes I got lost in building some specific arrangement of buildings or completing a task, that I forgot to pay attention to balancing out the factions. However, this i the charme of the game: You are free to build how you…

I'm not an achievement hunter, but if I enjoy a game enough I will play for a few hours after "finishing" to see if I can get the achievements. I think ill probably stop going for the "Make 6 of X decision" achievements and call it there on this game. A. It significantly unbalances your run making it harder. b. Its entirely random, you get a choice once a week and unless you are having a particularly good run your hitting game over by week 10. So deciding on a solo faction run will probably…

Technotopia is a roguelite puzzle game with extremely light city-building elements. In Technotopia, simple rules give rise to simple yet satisfying gameplay. While there is not much pressure to perform well, the bar is placed as high as you set it. Meta-progression unlocks new building types that can influence the course of gameplay, though there is some lack in depth. The balance leans closer to an arcade puzzle game (with no leaderboard?) than a pure puzzle game. The art deco style is…

I want to start off plain....The game is Good, and if this games looks like it SPEAKS to you, just buy it. I say this as someone who got the game and 100% it. The game is a rouge-like "deckbuilder", the campaign is continuously overlayed across several "games/runs"....this means all games on a profile are "in the campaign" until you complete the campaign on that profile.....at which point it becomes a mission-less "keep building until you hit the 'lose' condition and see how long you can go"…

A pleasant and addictive city-builder puzzler with attempts at deck-building, roguelike and narrative. If you like meditative puzzles and like the visual style, you will like Technotopia. The game could have been something more if the authors had improved the plot, reworked the deck-building and fully implemented the ready-made roguelike elements. Alas, now it is just a puzzle. Deck-building lacks the most basic elements. Removing cards, discarding your hand for it to work. Most of the cards…

Each run, has a limited time, since the upkeep costs are going to crash you at some point, You get XP from each run and you move on. I won't catogorise this as a city builder, since it misses the depth's of classic elements, like citizen-tiers, professions and production chains. With the progressive unlocking of achievement…

Bought it on sale for about £1.28 (probably $2?) and it was well worth about 10 hours of gameplay. Fairly simple puzzle game, nothing that complex. It actually could have been much better if the system stacked more and became more complex but great what what it is. And if you like art deco meets futurism than you're in for a treat.

Look, the game itself is fine in terms of gameplay and story, nothing special honestly but it's decent time. My problem is that the main game lasted all of 2 hours that are just kind of okay. It's only 5 USD so if you really need to scratch a city/puzzle builder itch go for it, but I wouldn't recommend to anyone looking for an intense, difficult, or long experience.

classic! there was a recent deco themed puzzle game I liked a lot called Technotopia. had this cool voxel design & I loved all the event card art. nice surprise to see a game dev go all in on this kind of look.

Technotopia is a city builder, that's kind of fun but not really. It looks cool, but it's not. I think I'll stick to Sim City lol

Very short game, can be easily completed within 1.5 to 2hrs. But it has a price tag that reflects that and the story/setting is interesting and the gameplay is fun.
