It's really awesome to build your own ship and see it fight. However, the campaign is mechanically extremely simplistic, like a board game, and AI is stupid. Furthermore, late game battles devolve (evolve?) into stacking massive fleets against each other which makes micro management painful and not fun at all. The worst thing is that playing at 2k resolution I can never zoom enough to actually see what the crew in …

Airships: Conquer the Skies is a fantastic game, it might not look like much from the previews on the store page, but this is an absolute gem of a game. What do you do in Airships? 75 hours in, and I've gotten more joy out of this game than most others I've played in recent years. It's rare I put so much time in a title, I've got a bad habit of playing 5 hours in a game and moving on to the next shiny thing, but this one made me stick. The unique fantasy / steampunk / napoleonic setting is really appealing, and the amount of creative freedom is insane. If you can think it, you can logically …

Great game. You get to build and design your own airships, land vehicles, and defensive structures. That process alone is fun, but then you get to use them in a strategy game where you conquer the map through whichever means you see fit—war, diplomacy, esoteric rituals or other win conditions. The battles are a lot of fun, and you can even take manual control of vessels for precision maneuvers. The developer has put …

Do you consider floating islands to be an aspect of steampunk?. Airships are often just fantasy equivalents of sea-faring ships so it makes sense for there to be fantasy equivalents of the islands those sea-faring ships can visit. Basically, I see floating islands as a logical consequence of airships. But are floating islands also uniquely steampunk? I know airships aren't required to be steam-powered to visit floating islands, but the presence of floating islands always makes me think of…

I cannot recommend this game enough. Absolutely love the world building and its and bits of lore here and there. It's fun to play with friends. It's fun to play alone. Designing ships and buildings for use as well as looks elevates the experience imo. The things you can do here man, incredible. The DLC adds A LOT. It's totally worth it. I'd love to like this game. I've been checking back every few months for years, but nothing changes. Updates are minimal — a new weapon here and there, things that could be implemented in days. (I'm a game developer myself, so I can say this confidently.) The spawning system is extremely unfair. Random enemies spawn in your home territory that are impossible to beat early on, forcing you to restart repeatedly. Even late-game with advanced tech, things like land anemones or mad scientists can…

It's not that the game is terrible, just insanely overrated. It's one of the highest rated games on steam but is incredibly janky, ships struggle to follow orders and all pilot like everyone on board the crew is drunk. Just moving in a straight line is a genuinely difficult task for the AI, if there is any potential obstacle they will collide with it even without having taking damage first. Most of the time you will need to move your ships diagonally but for some reason the AI will prioritise…

The fact this game was released in 2018 and has only been improving ever since really speaks to the developers commitment to this game. It's nearly 10 years later and this game is STILL getting updates. This thumbs up is for the commitment alone, but this game is definitely worth it if you love building ships and blowing them up into pieces.

Not my first thought. I would think that would be solarpunk maybe? Or maybe no -punk would have such direct access to the sky. Airships yeah, but floating islands are too idyllic for steampunk IMO. But I’m not gonna be a gatekeeper over it. Nor am I any kind of authority on steampunk. If the rest of the world fits, they can have a place.

Airships: Conquer the Skies is a remarkably creative steampunk strategy game that combines engineering, tactical warfare, empire management, and sandbox experimentation into an experience unlike almost anything else in the genre. At its heart, the game is about designing enormous flying war machines and testing them against enemy fleets, fortified cities, giant monsters, and rival empires across sprawling battlefields. While its visual presentation may initially appear simple, the incredible…

I do really enjoy this game but I don't feel I can recommend the game at its current price, Ideally you should get it on sale. Why do I feel this way? Firstly, the ship design can feel quite limiting at times with placement of certain modules/weapons. Say for instance I wish to use external engine pods on my ship, I am hard limited to two, one on the top and bottom of the ship, as you need infinite clearance on the X axis for the engine, meaning you can't have any in series which makes little…

This process of designing ships is a black box that lacks all transparency or player training tools. You assemble ships out of a pile of voxels that influence a laundry list of performance variables, but aren't provided any information about why ships perform well or poorly. I kept getting completely trounced by the pre-made designs. Was the ship not fast enough? Not well-armored enough? Not accurate enough? Impossible to tell. The only feedback you get is that you're on fire and they aren't.…

Delightful and charming steampunk airships game. I've been playing since some of the earliest days of early access, and it's always been a remarkably solid experience, managing to blend simple-yet-effective overworld strategy with real-time ship combat that features a surprising amount of nuance and depth. You literally get to build your own units to use in whatever way you see fit to take / defend territory. The management system is minimal, and politics / faction / world building isn't really deep enough to dive into, but what's here is great. Has the potential to be a real stand out title. I look forward to seeing what the developer does in the future.
