AK-xolotl was a big letdown for me. It's a game that borrowed a lot of its ideas from its contemporaries in the same genre, without understanding the core reason of what made gameplay in those fun. I think my main issue with the game however is just its lack of identity. It really tries to capitalize on internet meme culture and references to other games, while hardly having anything to stand on by itself. While I'm …

Do NOT buy this game if you're expecting a good couch/online co-op game. Two player is absolutely infested with bugs online and offline. Player 2 online progresses literally none at all; online is more of a token so you don't have to Remote Play. Now on to the actual issues. The game punishes you HARD for very little reason. Half the time there's so much going on that you can't tell what's coming at you only to get …

I honestly love this game so much. I never understood the bad reviews that people were leaving. I can 100% say this plays like a rogue like. Now I do know that it had a rough launch but It wasn’t a bad game and was made with lots of love. Now if you’re wondering if you should play this game in 2025 my answer would be Yes. I’ve almost got all the achievements and all the axolotl’s and it’s been a blast to play. …

Really fun bullet hell roguelike, very similar playstyle to other games in the genre like Enter the Gungeon. Has a lot of replayability with tons of different characters, weapons and items. It does have some issues though, mostly with balance and some small gameplay bugs. -Item tiers are kind of a scam, a lot of weapons that are high tier are actually worse than the AK you start the game with. A lot of the time I …

You Are Not You When You're Hungry Cute animals commit questionable actions will always be my religion. Things I Like About Ak-xolotl: Compliments It's a level-based top-down run'n'gun shooter with a cute pixelated artstyle, similar to Enter The Gungeon and Blazing Beaks. Controls feel snappy. The feedback and sound effect from shooting guns are sufficient. Dodging gives an unusually long i-frame comparing to its …

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Do not be fooled by the cute aesthetic of this game. This game is literally the textbook example of what a roguelite game should be like, but in a bad way I bought this game when it first released, but only decided to 100% it after 3 years. I've played 1.0 before, and although the 2.0 was better than the 1.0 in many ways, there are still many problems. This game is so barebones, it feels like you're playing a roguelite game with a short story, and thats it. There are no levels of entertainment.…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Great Concept, Poor Execution: A Buggy Experience That Respects Neither Your Time Nor Effort. AK-xolotl Together has a lot of heart, but its current state is too buggy to enjoy. While the aesthetic is cute and local co-op is functional, the game fails in its most basic duty: respecting the player's time. The game becomes repetitive quickly. Unlocking content requires an absurd amount of grinding. With over 80 weapons and perks, most feel underpowered or redundant; I found the base gear…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The lack of invincibility frames when you're hit ruin the game imo. I'm pretty good at games like this and danmaku in general, but with how big your character is and no i-frames, it makes it super challenging. I understand that this might be the point, but when a good portion of the screen is filled with harmful dots, dashing won't save you. Intentionally difficult/unfair mechanics don't make it fun. Regardless, it feels pretty unfair to lose the whole run after getting hit once at max health…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game does everything wrong that a roguelike/roguelite game can. I got AK-xolotl hoping for another experience like Nuclear Throne, or Enter the Gungeon, but instead, I got an unrealized mess of a game that wasn't sure what it wanted to be. Is it a game about collecting different Axolotls to play as? because that mechanic felt under-baked and boring. The characters you unlock feel really lazy: most of them being an Axolotl that gives you slightly more damage in a certain weapon type, or…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →For something that literally has "Together" in the title, the co-op is impressively terrible. - Camera is locked to both players even in online co-op and has a jarring amount of jitter when both players are moving. Options like screenshake and blood are also host side for some reason, you can't individually set them on your machine. - You spend half the time staring at "Waiting for Player 2" because you can't select loot or upgrades simultaneously. - Tooltips of dropped items disappear for you…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Played only split screen coop. The game was kinda buggy, noticably under-refined. Other player not respawning when restarting a run, animations flashing a different pose, a random crash, reviving coop player at the zone transition camp not working. Pretty basic things being broken like that. Normally I would call this excusable for an indie and report these bugs, but it seems they stopped updating the game nearly a year ago. Gameplay-wise it was meh, didn't hook us after an hour. I don't know…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →In its current state, I would not recommend buying it. After one update, my entire progress was lost, and I had to start from scratch. It also feels like the game wasn't tested thoroughly, which is a real shame because it doesn’t look bad on the surface. Unfortunately, it has too many flaws. All the Axolotls play exactly the same — there’s no real gameplay difference between them. They feel more like cosmetic skins rather than meaningful choices, unlike in games like Enter the Gungeon or…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Do not buy this even as a one-off game for your evening with friends. Early access felt nice but... Very-very raw after release. Gameplay loop is not entertaining after a couple of runs, replayability isn't there. There are only a couple of good weapons/items/axolots, and even then they feel all the same somehow. Bugs are not getting fixed (the game doesn't receive any updates at all in fact). Just a bad Enter The Gungeon clone. Though, I have to give credit where it's due. The game does feel…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →For a game having "Together" in the name and that advertises co-op as one of its main features, I expected a much better implementation of the co-op aspect. It feels clunky and slow since each player has to simply wait idle while the other makes a decision about what upgrade or weapon to choose, which happens very often. There's also some lag to the co-op and a few minor bugs.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Unfortunately I cannot recommend this game. At first I fell in love with the spritework and the designs and I still think this game looks gorgeous. But not the most appealing set-dressing can hide the glaring flaws of this game. It ultimately suffers from bad game design, a repetitive gameplay loop and a not very elegant difficulty curve. Most guns are frustrating to use and the Quality-Rating of the items is very inaccurate. The Hitboxes are the biggest problems, as sometimes you can see…

The games will be AK-Xolotl and Heartopia, just in case to let you know, meow! Its due to the wife PC cannot run the game we wanted to play, so yeah but next time tho! 💜 #VTuber #Fintuber
neutral · AI labelView post →I'm writing this review after the 100% milestone, only really missing some axolotl skins. I think that the game is fun, but repetitive. By the time you get about 10-15 wins you'll have pretty much experienced all the variety the game has to offer. The bosses are almost always the same, and they don't have a wide variety of attacks (which is fine). The combination of these two issues though creates a sense of monotony that grinds down the spirit as you go for the grindier achievements. Since…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Not bad, not terrible. I wanted to play it in co-op, but it wasn’t working at the time, so I ended up finishing it solo. Ngl, it’s kinda hard and grindy. With some better balancing it could be even better, but in the state I played it, it was kinda mid. At least it was cute :3

Shame that the final boss in RoR2 was a softlock, so I couldn't finish or lose the run to end stream 😭 We raided to @unheartvt.bsky.social today who's been playing Schedule I with @pautatocatvt.bsky.social
neutral · AI labelView post →I got the game to play with a buddy, but remote play is broken. If my buddy uses controller then mine won’t work. If I use a controller and he uses keyboard and mouse, his mouse won’t work. We just aren’t able to play the game together in coop, which really bums because it’s the only reason I bought the game.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →the ai for most of the enemies is terrible. a few bugged achievements, it also seems like playing on higher hz makes the game more choppy. not worth 19 USD, didnt even get ts on sale either fml
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →At the core there is something nice. The moment-to-moment gameplay feels good, there are some interesting upgrades etc. What kills this game is the awfully slow progression that doesn't allow players to quickly try out a variety of things.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →greatly recommend the game, achievements are fun to unlock and over all gameplay is smooth and fun, never had any issues and even after completing the game I still find my self coming back to it
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's like Enter the Gungeon but very bad At the time of this review, 16% of players beat a run and 3% beat 10+ runs. This is pretty telling on its own. Gameplay-wise it's essentially the same thing as EtG and Nuclear Throne but the runs are very watered-down with a "choose between those two doors for your next room's reward" structure instead. Super slow unlock grind, enemy AI is really obnoxious, huge visibility issue with enemies blending into the map but the cherry on top are the pink…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →the game is fun on its own but the online multiplayer has some problems. enemies being scaled up by just being given more healt and having us scaled down by just not being able to do much damage is the worst way of making the game more challenging, its boring and just not fun. i also have a problem with the game letting you take multiple hits at once and from what ive noticed even from a single projectile. ive lost more than just one health from a single hit. there should be a small window of…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →first of all i wanna say this game is pretty fun playing solo, but multiplayer has many gripes at the same time that makes it feel worse but with that said and why I'm giving a negative review is because of multiplayer for a few good reasons, one is that the game is definitely marketed for coop literally has together in the name, plus first thing you see in description, which is normally something i would love but its some of the worst I've played, this is a edit but i dont mean its the worse…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →cutsy game - primary bought the game for coop but there is a lot of "bug" in coop where the screen get black for either the non host or both, never encountered this in solo - no i-frames is atrocious in a bullet hell, if an enemy fire a shotgun you can just die right there taking all bullet...

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Purchased, Downloaded. Couldn't get into a lobby with my friend no matter what we did. Also main menu music is horrendous. Muted it 2 minutes in.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The Coop was very poor. Not only did my friend not get progress when joined with me, but I didnt get achievements in general. On top of that any and all interactions one player makes forces the other to be paused. During that time all you see is a text prompt that says you have to wait. Had a lot of connection issues which i cant tell were due to normal coop or issues with the game like damage not being registered or being double tapped or hit in general without physically seeing it. Damage is…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game fixed my marriage. Thank you. ᴹᵃⁿʸ ᵇᵘᵍˢ ᵗʰᵒ
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game is really cute an entertaining but I have a huge problem with the multiplayer mode. When the other player is opening a chest, or interacting with a character, it stops the game until he finishes. This makes the game really slow and I find myself waiting more than playing. Only fixing this would improve the quality of life drastically!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I remember seeing the trailer for this game a long time ago and being really excited for it. Sadly after playing it, I can't recommend it in the state that it's in at the moment. Things that are good The artstyle is really cute. I like the pixel graphics and the enemy designs are the perfect blend between "cute creature" and "murder". There are a lot of references in this game. Especially to anime and other games, which is really cool. The idea behind collecting more axolotls…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game is fun and has its own theme going with the bullet hell vibes, gun options, and shooting mechanics. Me and my partner completed runs on +10, but didn' t proceed further due to some annoyances. We would love to play further, but these pushed us away, I am hoping that my complaints might be constructive for future products, or bring us back to this game. 1) the co-op mode felt very challenging with modifiers. Mostly the doubling of enemy HP, the issue is - a) 2 players does not…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I have a soft spot for games where someone clearly came up with the name first and then built a game around it, like AK-Xolotl
positive · AI labelView post →Good base, but feels very unfinished and barebones. And apparently it is not in ealry access anymore? It really feels like it still is. Since that is the case I would not recommend it.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →abandoned in a extremely broken state. many bugs that are even worse in co-op.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Don't buy unless you really really like enter the gungeon and want more. game is braindead easy and boring, it also seems that the devs have stopped updating it too.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →a very good game with lots of potential. I have no idea why it has been flying under the radar for as long as it has. The artstyle is great, the gameplay feels smooth and it oozes passion. multiplayer is a bit clunky, but enjoyable. 9/10 greatly enjoyed it so far!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Enter the Gungeon with a much lower budget and shorter timeline would be a good starting point for figuring out what you are thinking of buying. Instead of goofy they went with cutie characters. This game lacks the polish of aforementioned game but you can feel the love. It's a pretty good game to add to your backlog or pick and start playing right away. Anytime a game get you to forgo 1500 other games in a backlog to get a good amount of enjoyable playtime then it is doing something right.…
