Couldn't get the game to work on windows 11 with amd cpu. Would crash after hitting new game. Things I tried: Limited game to one core Turning off vsync, using amd enhanced sync instead. Disabling fullscreen, in game settings and windows settings. A silent protagonist works best for a game properly designed around visual and environmental storytelling... especially with the haunted spaceship setting. In space they can't hear you scream but in your room... you sure can.

It is as good as they say. It has Bioshock and System Shock vibes but way scarier. I haven't played the remake yet but this one still holds up on 2026. Masterpiece.

This game caught me off guard, back when it released, I didn't expect EA of all studio's to drop a true rival to the Resident Evil series, but they pulled it off. The game pure drips atmosphere especially the sound scape and monster designs. The ship feels like a haunted house in space, very reminisent of the movie Event Horizon. Its a decent length too, some puzzle's but nothing to get stuck on. Graphics stand up, …

A Classic Sci-Fi Survival Horror Masterpiece that started the Original Dead Space trilogy & it's a 9 out of 10 in my book. I remember back then my younger sister would push me to buy the Original Dead Space 2008 game for my PlayStation 3 after she played the Demo for Dead Space 2. At first, I wasn't interested because I was honestly scared of playing it as a kid, but I'm so glad she pushed me to get the game because …
Summarised from 26 of the 241 public posts collected about this game; every point cites the posts behind it ([n] opens the post) and the split is counted from the posts’ own ratings. Updated Oct 11, 2026. How summaries are made
91% of the 241 Steam reviewers we collected recommend Dead Space (2008). The complaint that keeps coming up: technical issues on modern PCs. Deal-breaker or nitpick?
Critics, per Wikipedia
Dead Space received "generally favorable" reviews from critics, according to review aggregator website Metacritic. Upon release, Dead Space earned universal acclaim from many journalists. Matt Leone of 1Up.com praised its innovations in third-person gameplay, though faulted several elements that felt like padding. Computer and Video Games's Matthew Pellett was similarly positive about the gameplay and lore, though wishing for more zero-G sections and again faulting its length. Dan Whitehead, writing for Eurogamer, enjoyed the experience despite some frustrating design elements and other parts that clashed with the horror aesthetic. Andrew Reiner of Game Informer enjoyed his time with the…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Never say never! I worked on the original Dead Space (2008). There's a minigame in chapter 4 where you have to defend the ship's hull from incoming asteroids by shooting them with a cannon. On completion of the challenge, there's some explanation as to why the cannon's auto-targetting system is back online and you can leave the minigame and the cannon automatically continues shooting asteroids as you wander off. While I was rummaging around the code for this, I stumbled across a quadratic…
neutral · AI labelView post →while i still prefer the remake because of its voice acting and character/lore expansion, this game still holds up extremely well. it’s hard to believe that it’s nearly 18 years old.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I MISSED THIS GAME SO MUCH!!! When i was younger my older brother had Dead Space on the XBOX 360 and being young at the time, i really wanted to play it. when i actually started playing i remember getting so freaked out by the scene when you look out the window and it's just a guard getting impaled by a Necromorph, that scene freaked me out so much i couldn't play it for a LONG time. Now that im a little older, i started playing this game myself...im still scared but i beat the game and i…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Awesome game. Much better than the remake. Just don't turn off vsync until you get past the first door, cuz you'll get stuck if it's off at that point
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Wonderous game... sadly from an era we probably will never see again. Yearly conventions (E3), reveal parties that the world raving (microsoft/Sony/Nintendo wars). God i miss those days, i know they still exist in "streaming" but nothing beat turning on G4 for the next reveal and game tips were. Dead Space will always have a spot among the elders of games to me. Give it a chance if you like like true horror gaming, its fun, its detailed, its an amazing experience, i promise its not a…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Playing Dead Space (2008) again (I never finished it) and it's incredible how damn good this game is! Like... I forgot! (I own the remake, I'll play it after)
positive · AI labelView post →Since the new version came in the stores, this original version became unplayable. Glitchy, clunky, a flood of bugs that weren't there before. I don't believe in coincidences.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Dead Space has some issues on modern hardware, especially with mouse sensitivity and frame rate. Here’s how to fix it and also have better visuals: Guide to fixing mouse sensitivity problems: NVIDIA Control Panel: • Go to Manage 3D Settings, then Program Settings, and select Dead Space. • Set Max Frame Rate to 60 FPS. • Turn Vertical Sync on. • Set Power Management Mode to Prefer maximum performance. • Turn Low Latency Mode on. In-game settings: • Launch the game and go to the video…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Dead Space cant handle FPS over 60. There are bugs, invisible walls, or mouse sensitivity issues. You must select 60Hz settings in the game and activate Vsync. (It fixed it for me) A guide will help if necessary. I dont think i need to say much more about Dead Space. Simply a great game. The gameplay and game world are uniquely good. Great horror and gore elements. Of course the graphic is outdated, but thats not a problem here at all.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →My return to the Ishimura was fun, been forever since I last played. This is the game that helped me get less scared of other horror games, would play again later. Great game.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I've played many games this year. The highlighting are: - Fallout 3 - I forgot how fun this game is. Especially the exploration; - Witcher 2: Assassin of Kings - good game as well; - Dead Rising - a truly hard game, that is also fun. Zombies! - Dead Space (2008) - still an awesome game! - Star Wars: The Force Unleashed - the game is fun with the graphics and Force powers. Even though most boss fights are lame; - Silent Hill 2 - still awesome! - The Callisto Protocol - pretty good game!…
positive · AI labelView post →I remember getting this beauty in a bundle pack for my rocking gaming chair around 2009. Still till this day one of the scariest games I have ever experienced. I loved playing it so much on my xbox 360 but it's a shame I never got around to finishing it. Planning to do so when I play the remaster on PC sometime soon. Regardless I will still give this a positive due to the lasting impact it did on me as a kid.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →At this time with the PIF owning >90% of EA and their aggressive push towards AI, this company can not be trusted. Andrew Wilson, you are the scum of the Earth.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →One of the best games EVER MADE!!! I loved it back on 360 and it's still just as fun and atmospheric plus it looks awesome in 4k.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I liked playing through Dead Space so much on Xbox 1 that I just had to buy it on Steam just for an excuse to replay the game!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Replayed on PC. A classic, survival horror game that's aged well due to the game's atmosphere, fun gameplay & weapon system, interesting enemy designs, and solid story. It does feel a bit aged compared to Dead Space 2, 3, and the DS1 remake (obviously) but it's still work checking out. The remake is better in practically every single way except for the bad stuttering issues, regardless of what kind of hardware your PC has. However, the original doesn't stutter nearly as much as the remake so…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Gonna be prepping the next stream stream on my twitch account for this spooktober!! The game being Dead Space (2008)!! Wanted to mention that it will be a blind playthorugh cuz i never played it lmao (i'm scared) Hope to see you there!!
neutral · AI labelView post →don't let anyone tell you otherwise, all you need is a controller (preferrably xbox) and to adjust the screen to what you're currently playing on, and the game still 100% works without any real bugs. It doesn't matter if it is considered "outdated" or that there is a modernised version of this game, 2008 Dead space still holds up to this day.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →You need to download some third party fixes for this to be a playable experience since whoever ported this to PC screwed it up. However once you do that this is still an amazing game.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Dead Space 1 (original). I eventually got round to playing this! I had the 2008 version on Steam, so I thought I'd give it a go instead of the recent remake. *Note: if you're playing on Steam Deck, I'd recommend messing with the joystick deadzones for a smoother experience.* Despite being released 15 years ago, the graphics still look decent! Having no HUD elements is really neat. The gameplay was initially quite stiff and clunky feeling, but it's something you get used to. You may be aware…
positive · AI labelView post →First time played this game and it was good. Not scary like how i thought its gonna be, but good one game. Even its from 2008, the graphics are good and there are parts with reflections which is kinda cool. Put together the story with logs made it even better. I wonder where the story leads with the game second part. For the first one the story even good, beacuse space and horror, ship issues, there are deep part to it tho. I only can reccomend it, even the remaster probably giving more or…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The general consensus says the 2023 remake has proven to be valid, if not better, and I intend to play it one day, but that doesn't mean the original has become bad in comparison. In fact, it holds up quite well in both visual and gameplay aspects. I loved how most of the game never requires going to a separate screen from the main view, with several menus and even video footage found on the Ishimura shown as holograms from Isaac's suit, along with the health "spine". Much more immersive, and…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →One of the best sci-fi horror games of all time, even the graphics hold up great in 2025! Would highly recommend!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The first entry of the Dead Space series. As a game from 2007, it is brilliant really captures the space horror aspect. An engineer (Isaac Clarke) and his remaining two crew members (Zach Hammond and Kendra Daniels) came to recover people but were trapped and began exploring the giant planet cracker USG Ishimura, uncovering what happened and planning how to escape. Rating: 9/10 The main protagonist doesn't have a voice. Mouse sensitivity is too slow on modern PCs. Requires a community-made…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A spectacular experience. When people say that the game is a classic and a masterpiece in horror, they are not joking. But what personally got me was the actively hostile atmosphere in it. The game feels uninviting and as if everything on Ishimura, including the ship Ishimura herself, wants you to die. Incredibly nerve wracking. While the game has some issues (some stemming from the port not being the best), it's still a must play for anyone who calls themself a horror fan.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Great horror game made me go back and rewatch the movie the inspired it Event Horizon. Great mix of horror movies blended in to a master piece
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →BEST SURVIVAL HORROR GAME OF ALL TIME - up to DEC 2025 (FYI, I have played more than 2hrs LMAO, that must be last time I bought and downloaded on steam. I prefer console version, but bought on steam while I was waiting for upgraded graphic version for console, which came eventually BTW). This is the best ever survival horror game, ever made. Not a joke, not an opinion, fact. Resident Evil, Silent Hill, Dinohunter, etc. all were for sure amazing and yes, the best before this. This came out…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game hasn't aged. Pretty amazing how terrifying and novel this game is. I don't think the Sci-Fi+Horror sub-genre has offered something this fresh since the game released.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →it's resident evil 4 in space. so obviously it's fantastic and you should buy it
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Dead Space is quite a good game but it is also bit of a frustrating one. Rather than being mediocre or bad, it's one of those games that was a couple of notable fumbles away from being amazing. I'm not going to talk in detail about everything in this review as the gameplay is the focal point of discussion for me, but I will briefly acknowledge some of its other strengths. The Ishimura is a setting that I enjoyed. It's foreboding and often claustrophobic, playing into its strengths as this…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Piloup: I've just beat Dead Space (2008) on Hard and - it was good! Not - great, but somewhere at the halfway point, the game really had me coming out of forced encounters bloody, sweaty, and with no ammo left. In those moments I felt like I had to give it my all and then some.
neutral · AI labelView post →Great horror game, great character, too bad it's still less relevant than resident evil.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Originally had the game on Origin and finished it over there. And then my account was wiped for no reason and ended up buying it here on a discount. Never purchased anything over there myself. Dead Space is definitely one of those games you can call a CLASSIC. To me it stays as one of the best action – horror games. It can get you to feel panic, but luckily it’s not one of those titles where you can’t fight back and you’re forced to just run away. Getting the weapons and being able to create a…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Beat Dead Space (2008) finally! Man, what a good fucking game! Genuinely a banger, the only complaint I have is that I wish it were harder
positive · AI labelView post →Games beaten in 2026 #49 Dead Space (2008) A wimpy game for babies, definitely didn't take me a full month to get through because I kept quitting out after finishing a single chapter. Honestly a really cool game, I would have liked more visual variety. Looking forward to the sequel and remake.
neutral · AI labelView post →It's a classic, I prefer it to the remake for its design and atmosphere also it runs on pretty much anything.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A true sci-fi horror classic. Amazing story and atmosphere with great visuals that still hold up today. A must play. note: widescreen fix and mouse sensitivity fix are nice to have. Also, cap your fps under 120. otherwise some aspects of the game's physics break the game.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A well made story with great gameplay mechanics IF they would work. Twice I got softlocked due to an NPC not spawning once in chapter 5 and once in chapter 6 and over 30 crashes in chapter 12 alone cause a button was pressed for the door to close which would crash my game, Not counting the amount of times i was in Zero Gravity and it would kill me after floating for a few seconds can't even understand what that was. Also my game would crash if i looked at it wrong. Bodies would ragdoll and fly…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I went into Dead Space (mostly) blind and I was hooked from the start. Fantastic gameplay, fascinating story, mysteries upon mysteries, and so many unexpected twists. I must have built up some immunity to the scares by the end as my aim got so much better, but even up to the final levels, the game still knows how to maintain tension and keep you on your toes. Add this to your library and make us whole.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Despite its age Dead Space still makes me cack my pants on fresh playthroughs, one of the best games to ever be inspired by Resident Evil 4. Alot scarier and harder than it's inspiration, the ishimura ship is dread inducing and terrifying to explore, fighting the necromorphs is always intense whilst being immensely satisfying to blow off their limbs and throw it back at them :) stomping corpses and seeing chunks never gets old. Story is a simple premise but well done, its akin to the likes of…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I did enjoy this game over 10 years ago, seemingly when it actually worked properly. I just tried it again in 2025, completing the first chapter, and the controls and mouse movement make it almost unplayable. I would describe the mouse movement as trying to aim with your wrong hand and the dpi on your mouse changing every few seconds level of control. Big shame, as the actual game from what I remember is a decent horror, but the most horrific thing you'll deal with now is the controls. Horrible…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →They put crack in this game
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's owned by EA.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Dead Space is a masterpiece of suspense and horror blood-curdling screams, dangerous hallucinations, dark and narrow corridors, and in order to kill enemies you have to amputate their limbs. The Dead Space games are the ones that introduced me to the world of single-player games and I can never thank them enough for that. so if you're interested in a masterpiece of a horror game do yourself a favor and play Dead Space and make us whole again!.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is one of the best games I have ever played...... Again I am playing after 8 years cuz of nostalgia
