I quitted the game after it forced me to hug and embrace a character who sexually assaulted Daphne in the previous scene, despite me playing as not interested for 100% of the interactions with said character. I was hoping to have an option to hex him, but when - right after he broke into Daphne's house and got drunk - I read that Daphne "let herself go" and doubted if she maybe "judged him a bit hastily", I was …

Hands down, one of the best VN I have ever played. The choices all felt like they had a meaningful impact. Daphne's path of finding her heritage in a quaint French village and choosing her story is a must for fans of this genre.

Along the Edge delivers a captivating art style and a genuinely engaging story where your choices actually feel like they matter. However, the pacing stumbles in the middle acts, and some character arcs don't quite land the emotional payoff they aim for. It’s a solid visual novel if you catch it on sale, even if it doesn't entirely break new ground.

60 of 211 · most liked firstI was going to rate it negatively originally, but now after their latest blog post I definitely am. I really want to like it. I'm told the choices matter - but I feel like I barely have any so far. As for the blog post. Being an indie dev is hard. But asking your customers to do work for you by translating your game feels so wrong to me. People would genuinely love to do it for free - but there's a reason it's a paid job. edit: The developer mentioned it wasn't their intention to get free…

I don't like games where you do absolutely nothing, just read and choose dialogues. There's no interaction anywhere, and we can't do anything, no action, just reading comics... ❌For this price, I can buy much better action games... ❌❌Verdict: Terrible , Bad , Mediocre , Decent , Good , Very Good (Rating scale for tested game) If you want to see more of my reviews, you can find me on…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A brilliant and very engaging interactive story with multiple branches where you can steer the plot in very different ways. Daphne', the main character, will change both aesthetically and in her behaviour due to your choices. Romance is a bit too simplified and not on par with the best otome around, but overall this game is worth your time both for the story and the artwork. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3752160881

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Along the Edge is a really good visual novel with lots of choices and different endings. I really liked the choice system and how different symbols at the end show the choices you made. I would definitely recommend replaying it a few times to see how your decisions change the story and how things can turn out differently. P.S. You can press or hold Space to skip text when replaying the game. 🎚️ Difficulty ☑️ My grandmother could play it 🔲 Easy 🔲 Normal 🔲 Hard 🔲 A…

Some of them are totally troll, mind you, but some are very thoughtful, like this one, which really gets what I wanted to tell with this game (and the next ones).

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Another banger from Novabox. Beautiful art. A clever story. Music is subjective so i'll just say its well thought out. If you have enjoyed other Novabox games, or just like a more serious and thought provoking story in your visual novels, i feel like you wont be disappointed.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Story doesn't make any sense (and I mean absolutely none). From language dialogues errors (a lot) to choices with no effects (choices which should have made an impact tho) to no sense in story plotting and characters. Also the story is not unique but more a collection of strangely putted already existing legends. The artwork is low quality and not nice to look at most of the time. All in all I can't say this visual novel was worth it.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I actively love the (backgrounds-) art style. Got it moreover for free as a Steam-giveaway and was for the first or so hour planning on a definite recommend. Unfortunately the writing on this is below the level even of a dime-store romance novel, and I can not in good conscience recommend anyone sit through that.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I got the game for free and technically I am the target group as I like to play visual novels for a female audience. The backgrounds and CG artwork is really beautiful and probably leads to most of the positive reviews. The sprites are kind of hit or miss, especially the male LIs are not very attractive imo. The story was not engaging at all to me. It is extreeemely slow burn. The pacing is really off. You have some really long-winded parts where nothing really happens and then after a small…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Wish we got more VNs like this. Serious themes, good story and characters. The artwork is beautiful, and the soundtrack is solid. It's fairly short, but there is a good bit of replay value due to the branching choices you make over the course of the game. I had no performance issues.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Lacks skipping seen text and saves which made subsequent playthroughs not go so well. Probably causing missed unique dialogues and being an unnecessary detraction. The story and its diversions were fairly anti-climactic and lacking interesting lore and impact. With some events occurring every playthrough even though there are choices that should avoid the event from even happening? My guess being development ran out of time and cut additional scenes, otherwise it makes no sense. The overall…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I feel a bit sorry for the developers behind this game, as it seems to be getting some pretty harsh reviews. As a visual novel, it has its own charm. I went in with low expectations and was pleasantly surprised to find it better than I had expected. The writing could be more engaging and the pacing of events could be improved, but overall, I still found it enjoyable. Your choices do matter, even if it’s not always clear how. It took me a couple of playthroughs to figure out how different…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Some of the inspiration behind the (unannounced) indie game I'm making. It may or may not be loosely related with what we did on Along the Edge and Across the Grooves.
neutral · AI labelView post →At least 4 different paths Along the Edge, is a visual novel that brings you to the edge of something, but until, right until the end of the story you don't know what that edge really is. Some people have played the game through in as many as 8 different ways to try and explore that edge, and for a game that takes around 2.5 hours to complete, they clearly enjoyed the game a lot. Without giving it away, you have inherited a manor home after your grandmother passes away, your mother (estranged)…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I picked up this game when it was free some months ago, and it was quite a pleasant surprise overall, firstly the hand painted pieces were GORGEOUS, easily the strongest point of the game, i often paused the game just to admire how beautiful some pieces were. Unfortunately, that is where my praises stop, Along the Edge have a couple of rough spots as a story, and even more as a visual novel, in technical terms On the topic of character, i find Daphné to a great protagonist, while it's up to the…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Pretty fun visual novel with quite a few different endings. I got this game when it was on a discount - 100% off, which honestly, I feel pretty lucky for. Since I'm new into gaming, I was interested in experiencing a good choice-driven visual novel, which is when I found this witchy experience. All in all, I did enjoy the game: the art was pretty, the choices reasonable. Each run has a good length - 6 chapters and an epilogue (my 6 hours are a little more than 3 runs - the 2nd and 3rd I…

neutral · AI labelView post →I was really underwhelmed by this game. As a visual novel, its main selling point is the narrative, but I didn’t find it compelling. The pacing was all over the place, and many elements felt shallow. On the bright side, the art and music were well done. Despite its aesthetic strengths, the experience never came together satisfyingly.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Along the edge... of boredom, thats for sure. I have mixed feelings. Worst of all they are fr*nch. I'm kidding, but every time I felt like I walked right into the palm of their hand and felt the fingers tightening their grip, when I thought I was getting hooked on the story, it just... let go? I got a good ending in my opinion, and I could never see myself playing more, but at the same time I feel like everything was just shalow. The characters weren't fleshed out, some of them were basicaly…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →One of the best visual novels I've experienced. The writing is solid and I appreciate the amount of branching paths you can go on. I do kind of wish there were a few more opportunities where the reader had input in the story, but that's my only complaint. I love love love the artwork and it's definitely the highlight of the game. Being in an age of AI slop, it's nice to go back in time to 2016 where there was none of that. Definitely pick this one up for full price. $14 is very fair,…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →So far my favourite visual novel I've read on Steam. The art is amazing, the characters are great, and your choices do influence the story. It's not overly-long either, with the first playthrough taking me just over an hour. There seems to be about 4 endings so experiencing everything this VN has to offer is about the same amount of time as reading standard book.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I enjoyed it, and played through a couple of times, but was really hoping for a better payoff, and for a "choices matter" game, it often takes the most dramatic and meaningful choices out of your hands. I got it for free, so I can't hate it- and wouldn't anyway- but I can't really recommend it, either. If you can get it for free or cheap (it is right now), it's a decent way to kill a few hours. If you want something where your choices are deeply impactful- not just swapping out a few lines of…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →wonderful game, unique character paths, a beautiful art style, and some chill piano to really set the mood perfectly
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Along the Edge looks bad, reads worse, and somehow still manages to make its “interactive” choices feel completely meaningless. The writing is flimsy, the plot is trite and full of holes, and the endings are as daft as the journey getting there. Even the art style feels smug and ugly rather than distinctive. A thoroughly boring waste of time.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I usually do not play visual novels, but this one really intrigued me. From the thriller and mystery surrounding the storm to the artistic scenes that looked as if they were painted with a brush, everything came together in the end to create an amazing story. I will admit it felt a bit slow at times, but it stayed interesting enough for me to see it through to the end.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Good visual novel, decisions are decisive and coherrent + the drawings are really nice. The story is not insanely deep but overall i liked it in all the paths. 8.5/10
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It is SOOO blatantly obvious that no women were involved in developing the story to this game. Picture this: our main (female) protagonist gets disrespected and even violated by one guy on multiple occasions (first at the bakery, then at the festival where he forces her into a kiss), but of course then when she is in distress and he hugs her her reaction to his strong manyl arms is: is this more than a crush? Yes, I'm sure that any self-respecting woman would have exactly those feelings for…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I got the game free during the February special promo event. I get what they were going for, but it often falls flat. There are a few translation issues (I am a native french speaker but I played in English) but overall it's pretty well made. I think I broke the choice system, as I got two ending achievements that simply can't work at the same time. I have issues with the two core things in this game: - The way the story is told and some insane things that happen in it - The…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's a beautiful game where every choice truly matters and you're truly in control of the story. There are at least 38 possible endings, and everyone can form their own personality in the story. It's a multiverse, and the lore will confirm it, so just be yourself and behave like you'd normally do. There are at least 5 pivotal choices that change everything in story flow, especially for daphne relationships with Frank and Stan. It's a free game, and it's made for the old gamers that love that…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →unfortunately the story is boring and apparently none of the characters unterstand the concept of consent, apart from the beautiful artwork there isn't much of value that this game offers
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Short and very nice, I honestly would have liked a longer version cause the writing is that good. Like the description says there is no good and bad, there's only choices and their consequences
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is a surprisingly brief yet pleasant visual novel, with meaningful choices, and an interesting story. The pacing is a bit weird, but I really enjoyed it, for what it was. It's replayable, it has multiple endings. The only real negative, is that the english translation has many mistakes.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Pros and cons to this game. It is the second Nova-box game I read through, and both left me with similar feelings of, this could have been great. But it feels unsatisfying in the end. The art is a plus. The music faded into the background, which is fine as well. Gameplay-wise, I find the compass of choices very interesting, but it stops short of being actually engaging - different choices light up different parts of the "compass", indicating where your priorities lie and how you are…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Finally got 100% achievements! I picked up this game a while ago when it was being offered for free, and now I'm interested in checking out more games from Nova-box. I really enjoyed the art style, the soundtrack, and the story. One thing I especially liked was how carefully you have to choose your dialogue options. It made every choice feel meaningful, since each one affects your stats in different ways. Overall, I had a great time with Along the Edge. Great job, Nova-box!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →if i wanna read a book, i go read a book.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I do like the art style. However, the design of the story is underwhelming. The player gets to decide on trivia (do i go to the tower first or to the bedroom?), but not on the important turningpoints (my mother comes along after all those years and totally disrupts my meeting by having my guest be chased away by shotgun from MY house - I have to accept that, what?). There are also annoying inconsistencies in storytelling (no, I don't think I'm interested in having a relationsship with you...…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Good game, the story is interesting and immersive.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →in summary, Yeah, it's pretty good, I enjoyed the story, the two love interests are a little weak imo, but the main plot seems to be focused on family tragedy, not romance, and it does that pretty well. I would not pick this game up full price though, while the set pieces are absolutely stunning and it did have an emotional impact on me, it's not one of the stories I'll be thinking about over the course of the next few months. More in depth (MINOR SPOILERS FROM HERE ON): without getting too…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I got this for free and I thought it was alright. It was a pretty simple story that takes about 6-8 hours to read depending on how fast you read. The art between scene transitions is beautiful, but it's kind of funny because it heavily contrasts with the dialogue art. I still liked that art though since it reminds me of old games/animations I think I saw some YouTubers play/watch. It especially reminds me of this one game I played a lot called Arcane the Armor Collector. Very nostalgic. I…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A quiet good game. I would like more game like this with the setting of you owning a manor/castle and the romance portion. Anyway the setting is good. I like that is set in a village. I like that the game takes place trough a couple of months The story is quiet good and it seems that they are some difference if you take multiple runs. I would have like to see some of the elements a little expanded upon. Still it works. I also liked the characteres especially Stan. But, even Yves, Frank…

There is no gameplay, its story telling and u making choices looking at diffrent outcomes. But i must say, 1st and 2nd playthroughs are fun, then u notice, that about 60% of game, ur choice wont matter, u will get same or really close conversations u had.
