What players are saying
Counted from the reviewers’ own thumbs up/down on the 16 English Steam reviews we collected, not by the AI. Valve’s all-language rating: Mostly Negative (21 of 77 positive).
Players are divided on the game, with many praising its art and story but criticizing its pacing and ending. [1][2][3][4] Some find the gameplay mechanics tedious and the investigation linear. [5][6][3][7] Several reviewers note the game's title is confusing and the plot feels disconnected from the Jake Hunter series. [1][8][7]

This game has beautiful art & interface design, the story is also quite good. I also love the characters. However, I feel this game mechanics could use a lot of improvement; for example, I dont think the confirmation button everytime we change location is necessary. Also, it's kinda annoying that the dialogue option automatically closes everytime we talk to another person which requires extra step to click the …

Alternate Jake Hunter The Awakening of Gold Jazz (what a name) is a visual novel/detective story where we solve a mystery of how is it possible to produce such a bad game. I never played the other games in the Jake Hunter series so I review it as stand alone product. The story is so dull. I could not focus on reading because there was no suspense. I could quickly tell who is the culprit for every case including the …

Where to begin... Daedalus The Awakening of Golden Jazz is a complicated piece of work. Just look at the title, for pity's sake. It goes on forever. The pedigree here goes back a long way, and yet it calls upon it very little, but just enough of that pedigree to make it difficult to evaluate independently as a standalone product or as a product of its franchise. Let us start with the basics. Daedalus is a VN. The …

Truly this is one of those games I would like to put a "maybe" recommendation? I played this game to a 100%, have never played another Jake Hunter before, and this left me with more questions than answers. The overall package I enjoyed quite a bit. The artstyle is what initally drew me in, the music is nice(but very repetitive) and the story sadly falls flat in the end. So I can't in good conscience recommend the …

I love games with strong stories, but the more emphasis they have on their stories, the harder I’m going to be on them. There are constants in narratives like pacing that must be observed no matter the medium, and genre tropes or standards don’t really change that. I came to DAEDALUS ready to sink into a deep, engaging narrative and I was offered just that from the intro, with interesting characters and a compelling …

Game has no issues. The prologue works as a tutorial and explains well to the player how to play this game. I…

positive · AI labelView post →A good detective needs a keen eye, a sharp mind, and a lot of patience. This game really puts that last one to the test.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Absolutely pointless plot that veers off its initial premise and never gets back on track just to throw in sequel bait at the last moment.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Alternate Jake Hunter: DAEDALUS The Awakening of Golden Jazz is a game that has nothing to do with the title with the exception of "DAEDALUS" and "Jazz". I honestly couldn't tell you what the title of this game means. Alternate Jake Hunter: DAEDALUS The Awakening of Golden Jazz is about a young man named Saburo Jinguji and his grandfather (Kyosuke Jinguji) is murdered, so he travels from Japan to America to find out who murdered him. The game plays as a visual novel where you'll interrogate…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →6/10. A positive experience, but only barely. Odd controls, mostly useless gameplay, the story has some interesting points but doesn't explore them very much, and has an open-ended ending that leaves too much unanswered. Technical details/presentation Alternate Jake hunter: Daedalus: The Awakening Of Golden Jazz (hereafter "Golden Jazz," because ♥♥♥♥, man) is a VN, so nothing special going on technically. However, the art is a bit strange: all of the scenes are real-world images, and not just…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Nice little detective ADV that offers a compelling story, but suffers from uneven pacing and cheap-looking character animation. Fortunately, it doesn't require moon logic to finish -- most of the time you'll have the right answers in your head by the time the game starts asking questions, and failures will only return you to the start of the sequence, barely losing any progress. The soundrack is very nice, but I wish the game had more tracks. It was composed by Ayako Minami, who used to work…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is the first Jake Hunter game I've played, and now I'm even more interested in discovering the other existing games. Quite a shame that there's no manual save because that will help out with backtracking the true ending choices, but I enjoyed my time with this game. Great art style & can't wait for the next game in the Jake Hunter series!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The only game I know of that dodges this is Alternate Jake Hunter: Daedalus, but either it got patched out or nobody significant noticed because only five people played that game
neutral · AI labelView post →eeeeeh we played the game until the end but can't honestly recommend it to fellow Steamsters....first of all, the story, while interesting, moves at a glaaaaaaaaaaacial pace....especially the first third of the game...you will need the patience of a Saint to go through it including dealing with one of the most annoying characters in game history. After that, things pick up a bit, but the end is....not an end...without spoiling things, why aren't other golden jazz titles available on Steam?…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Plat #265 = Carto, lovely little game about cartography where you pick up & move around the world map to make new paths to solve puzzles. Cute artstyle, cool concept, big recommend. Plat #266 = Alternate Jake Hunter: Daedalus The Awakening of Golden Jazz. Cool art but boring game imo. #trophyhunting
negative · AI labelView post →You're introduced to some childhood characters in the 1st 2 chapters, then they disappear on you. The game is fairly linear, the pacing is slow, and you're not really investigating anymore (since it's so linear). And I have no idea what this has to do w Golden Jazz still
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →feel like it's rare these days to play a game that fumbles its premise so hard from a promising start, but Alternate Jake Hunter: Daedalus The Awakening of Golden Jazz (yes that's its name) started pretty well and the ending was so unsatisfying i don't think i'll play another one.
negative · AI labelView post →Before anyone asks - the game I'm talking about is "Alternate Jake Hunter: DAEDALUS The Awakening of Golden Jazz". Do not play this game, it's really bad.
negative · AI labelView post →Alternate Jake Hunter - Daedalus: The Awakening of Golden Jazz. Did I largely play it because I thought the name was funny? Yes. It's just... not good. The story isn't good. The localization isn't good. The adventure game elements are just bland. The music might've been fine, I don't remember it.

The goal is to embrace the decisions i make and enjoy the stories that are told because of it. Head to qtegamers.blogspot.com/2024/02/stor... for Chapter 0.
neutral · AI labelView post →I liked some aspects of this game, such as the overarching mystery, but other parts were tedious, and the ending was frustratingly abrupt and confusing, at least the ending I got. I also wish it felt more connected to other Jake Hunter games. I'd still give a hesitant recommendation to those who want a little more Jake Hunter. Hopefully any future entries will be more satisfying.
