Ampersat is a game that takes some inspiration from old dungeon crawler games such as Rogue and Moria, but its just not fun. The presentation of the game is rather ugly. Everything is made out from voxels to simulate a kind of "3D pixel art" and these never look good. The game has a very ugly color pallet, all dungeons are mostly one solid bright color. The second dungeon is entirely made of a red color so bright …

roguelite action RPG with retro ASCII graphics, focused on combat and character development First of all, I would like to say that I have great respect for the creator because this game was CREATED by one person and the content is really huge. The game is not perfect, but I give it a positive review for the effort put into it ✅There is a lot of monster variety, as there are as many as 50 of them ✅Diverse location …

Ampersat – a game where you’re @ and everything else is trouble At first you're like, “Wait, I’m the email dog?” Then — bam! — you’re slicing through letters, casting spells, and saving the alphabet. It looks like ASCII from the '90s, but plays like a fast-paced slasher with magic, upgrades, and adrenaline in every dungeon corner. Enemies are literally made of symbols. Yep, you’re fighting “Q”, “Z”, and other …

Fun but simplistic dungeon crawler brought down by some minor annoyances. I would give it 6/10. There's major stuttering in full screen so I had to play windowed. No graphics settings to turn off edge blurring. No crosshair customisation - it's very small and always yellow, so it's impossible to see in the sand dungeon. Levels are too simple and there are no puzzles despite the store page mentioning Zelda. Too many …

A little Gauntlet, a little Hammerwatch, a little quirky, a lot of fun. I have to recommend this as it is a fun, yet simple little roguelike rpg-like game. Definitely worth the price of admission.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I got this game on a 90% sale, and I will admit, if I didn't, I would definitely refund it. This game has potential, but there are so many issues with it that make it overly overbearing to actually play through. It's a very bare bones Roguelite game that has some decent ideas and many, many issues with it. tl;dr: Positives: - Interesting Mechanic of hiding NPC texts until you unlock letters by saving them in the dungeons - Stylistic Choice of using letters for enemies, rather than full on…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Ampersat presents a fun, quick top-down action game where you're playing across different dungeons to recover all the letters to the village you first spawned in. You can use melee or range (continus/controlled fire) weapons, and movements are smooth and fluid. It does get a bit repetitive in the mowing down enemies, unlocking doors and solving puzzles here and there as you clear the dungeons. But my overall gameplay was smooth, lag-free and bug-free. You also unlock more perks like speed, dash…

neutral · AI labelView post →7/10. Nothing groundbreaking, just a well-made indie game that does exactly what it promises.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The setting and hook are not interesting in the slightest. The gameplay is vapid. Maybe there is more interesting gameplay mechanics further in the game, but it's too bare bones early on to mindlessly slog through.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →[url=https://store.steampowered.com/curator/43083373/]Clever games curator review: 9/10. Twin stick ARPG with an intense letter theme. While it might look like a rogue, everything here is handcrafted, the only random thing is what item drops you get and what’s for sale in the stores. I really enjoyed this, though I can imagine it’s not for everyone. You always dual wield two weapons. One is a super short distance melee weapon that is usually pretty slow to wield but does a lot of damage. The…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I bought this game thinking it was a normal rpg game. Instead I got jumped by 40 Z’s while the letter H hugged me against a wall like a toxic relationship. Level 4 contains a room that manufactures C’s faster than a keyboard factory. 10/10 would get bullied by the alphabet again.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Quite a few frustrating bugs: - If you die before picking up the bonus word chest, it disappears and you don't get another attempt. It's so frustrating to repeat a level, finally finish the challenge, only for your reward to be snatched away. Makes it a waste of time. Decided to drop this game after the 3rd time this happened. - Item pick up message overlaps the UI (when viewing inventory for example) - picking up multiple items causes their messages to overlap each other, meaning it's hard to…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A surprisingly fun game, I must say. Simple gameplay but enough there to keep you interested throughout the 7-10 hours it takes you to get through the game. I can easily recommend.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →genuinely one of the most engaging games i've recently played. so simple and so fun. just put your favourite music on full volume and have a blast. 10/10 experience
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Can't possibly recommend this game at full price. Plays like an average run-of-the-mill mobile action game and you should pay as much (it's on sale pretty regularly for a buck). But even then I couldn't bring myself to finish this. It's incredibly repetitive and heavily RNG-based in terms of how you progress. Weapons and armor only stock three random options at a time. Very grindy but not satisfying.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I got this game for free and im not really the one to take free games that i dont like because it feels like clutter but when i first looked at this game it felt different i dont know of its because of the artstyle or the combat but the game felt like it wanted me to play it. Thats why i put on the game's profile the game was fun for the 6.4 hours and yes i havent played this game in like forever and i am here writing this its hard to explain with this game it was weird ok thx!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I enjoyed the gameplay, but it was a little short. Everything about it is cool, except my weapons kept disappearing after every second level. But after i got the legendary items it became so much easier. Game is definitely a strong 9.7/10, but the well is a bit pissy Great soundtracks and a lot of different weapons
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It isn't bad. It isn't amazing, but the simplicity and balance really shine here. My one complaint is that the bosses feel very tanky. It isn't fun enough for a second playthrough and I dont know if I will finish the first. This game was significantly better than my expectation though.

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Ampersat is an inventive and unconventional indie action RPG developed and published by Gaterooze, Ink in collaboration with GrabTheGames, and it stands as one of the more curious hybrid experiments within the modern indie landscape. At its core, the game reimagines traditional dungeon-crawling mechanics through an unusual blend of text-based aesthetics, twin-stick action, and classic role-playing progression. The story follows the titular hero, Ampersat—represented, fittingly, by the “@”…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Game is very fun, i got it for free and i didnt expect it to be a good game, but i was wrong. Recomend it.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Played Ampersat thinking it was just letters fighting monsters. Now I’m emotionally attached to a font. – Got bullied by a capital “B” and secretly liked it – Accidentally moaned when I picked up an italic “i” – Game turned me from a reader into a… “sub-scriber” 📖 – Every dungeon crawl feels like foreplay with the alphabet – At this point, Comic Sans could step on me and I’d say “thank you, daddy” 10/10. Proof that literacy is a fetish.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Ampersat is a pretty basic roguelite/dungeon crawler that I picked up on a free giveway. You play the @ character fighting against enemy letters in dungeons and towers and rescuing letters stolen from a nearby village. Gimmick is that until you rescue the stolen letters, the letters in text in the village will be hidden and you have to find letters over time. In practice, this just makes it impossible to figure out what items sold in shops actually do lol. You fight by attacking with ranged…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The interface is very complicated. That makes it difficult to play.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Ampersat is a "shooty, slashy, RPG-y" dungeon crawler where you play as the "@" symbol, battling ASCII enemies in a mix of retro and modern styles to restore stolen language to a village. In this semi-3D and semi-2D game you enter dungeons, defeat enemies, collect letters/loot, and upgrade town hub. The more you restore language, the more you unlock townspeople's dialogues. Also, some levels are too dark; the melee combat force you to trade damage with enemies, and the "overheat" mechanic for…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Ampersat is one of those rare indie gems that completely caught me by surprise. At first glance, it looks like a simple retro-inspired action RPG, but once you dive in, you realize there’s a lot more depth packed into it than expected. The game brilliantly blends classic **Gauntlet-style dungeon crawling** with modern progression systems, creating something that feels both nostalgic and fresh. The combat is fast, satisfying, and chaotic in the best way possible. Whether you’re blasting enemies…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →graphics, style, and gameplay are nice. I'm not a huge fan of the tutorial just being a bunch of pages to read, but I'm just spoiled by playable tutorials I suppose. The equipment, shopping, and upgrading systems are all smooth and well incorporated, and the process of unlocking letters to find out what villagers are saying is hilarious and fun however, I'm dropping this because the fire tower makes my eyes hurt. its SO red. the well was already pushing the viewability with so many enemies…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This was a big surprise. I've never played anything like this kinda game, this low rez, rougelite i believe its called. Starting out, you have basically nothing, like all games. You're weak, and you don't have much info. The game play was smooth, top down. as you go through your first dungeon, you end up gaining new spells, acquire armor and new weapons. you play based on several elemental types. these are enhanced by your weapons and armors. the game is challenging, sometimes…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Ampersat is a fast-paced action RPG that blends classic dungeon-crawling with twin-stick shooter mechanics. Set in a dark fantasy world, the game throws you into arenas packed with monsters, traps, and secrets waiting to be uncovered. Its pixel-art style gives it a retro charm, but the lighting and effects keep everything feeling modern and intense. Right away, it feels like a game that respects old-school roots while still pushing for something fresh. Combat is where Ampersat really comes…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Surprisingly a quite fun indie game. I don't think I have it in me to 100% the well or go for New Game+, but I enjoyed the rest! Cool premise, with pretty in-depth perk trees and gear. Edit: changed the difficulty to easy and the well was trivial lol

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Recommended for a light and fun rogue-lite! Heroes of Hammerwatch combined with Enter the Gungeon but less stress, I really enjoyed the letter collection to expand the story. I had some issues with enemies getting lost on light colored backgrounds in some stages but it never proved to be a life or death scenario. I had fun so I recommend picking this up if you like this kind of thing!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Interesting concept but clunky execution, not particularly fun to play.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's actually fun, I looked at this was like, a spelling game? fr? but it's not a spelling game lol. I got it because it was free at the time, but even at the time of writing this it's 99 cents, just buy it, it's fun!
