Anno 2070™
Developer Blue Byte, Related Designs
Anno 2070 is a city-building and economic simulation game, with real-time strategy elements. It is the 5th game of the Anno series. It was released on 17 November 2011, and was co-developed by the German studios Related Designs and Blue Byte, and published by Ubisoft. Anno 2070 required Uplay to operate as an always online DRM System, later removed for receiving severe criticism from players. From Wikipedia (CC BY-SA 4.0)

Some reviewers report the game is now unplayable due to server or login problems. [1][2][3]

ALL NEGATIVE REVIEWS ARE OUTDATED. Just so everyone catches this a lot of negativity regarding this game is cause of things Ubisoft did but they have fixed it so you can play this offline and without account issues now I am pretty sure, I have launched it with no internet and online with no sign in or hassles. This game is really fun and just to be clear I am in no way defending the company Ubisoft in general they …

it's an Anno game, I've been playing Anno since I was 8 years old (1701), played 2205, 1800 and 117 and this is my favorite. And a very large part of that is because of the atmosphere, the near future look from the early 2010 perspective. With the ability to build under water, the different factions each with their own set of buildings which changes the gameplay. For example the eco's, the way to generate …

Ubisoft game. I can't even launch it, server is dead. Can't do any kind of offline mode, it only launches to a login screen that fails to connect. Don't buy this. It's a scam to even have it up on the store now when you cannot play it anymore.

I was trying to play and my account was suspended out of nowhere and now I can't play the game I supposedly own due to their crappy launcher. ♥♥♥♥ YOU AND ♥♥♥♥ YOUR LAUNCHER UBISOFT!

I bought this game back in 2012 (I think) and played a lot of hours, it was fun and challenging. Was like games of old such as sim city or the settlers. I decided to try and play it again in 2025 however the game will not launch from Steam, I would say this is probably the first game (on steam) I've owned that is now dead. If you can't play the game then it shouldn't be on here and certainly shouldn't be available …

37% of the 178 Steam reviewers we collected recommend Anno 2070™. The complaint that keeps coming up: requires Ubisoft launcher and online login. Deal-breaker or nitpick?
Critics, per Wikipedia
Critical reception for Anno 2070 has been positive since the game's release, with a majority of critics considering it a big step forward in the Anno series. Criticism of the game is heavily influenced by the requirement to be always online to access all game options. Without being online the player can still access an offline mode, but one can't edit their own profile information, and the player is unable to update their Ark base, place cargo into it, or upgrade it with equipment. Early reception at the time of release was also negatively influenced by constant crashes, server issues, and critics pointed out that the game worked better on pirated versions instead of the official one with…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Don't get me wrong, this game is amazing and my biggest thanks to all the game developers who worked on this. This is purely a Ubisoft corporate management review. Patch the game to allow for an end-of-life plan for when you turn the servers off; such as transitioning all the online only features to simply be singleplayer calculations, and optional choices for when creating a multiplayer lobby. Remove all your stupid Ubisoft special DRM checks. If you're going to buy Anno 2070, buy the Anno…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Two words: Ubisoft launcher. More on this: I moved to another country and lost access to the games using the launcher. The launcher thinks I'm using VPN which I obviously do not. The game is great, my favourite Anno. But do yourself a fovour: get this for free. I know you know how. Punish this ♥♥♥♥ of a company.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is a good Anno game set in the modern era. Most negative comments are about the Ubisoft launcher, not the game itself.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Cant even play the game. Requires you to sign into your ubisoft account, got locked out of my old email and contacted Ubisoft about changing this game over to my new account, after multiple emails and going back and fourth, them telling me it should be all good, still cant play it, just gave up emailing them. So frustrating dealing with them
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I loved this game but UBISOFT service that is forced is very bad. I have an account that needs my old phone number (changed do to eSIM theft) and my old email (needs old phone number to do 2 step auth). Now I have no access to unlink my xbox and steam account thru UBISOFT and they refuse to delete my account unless I can respond using old email address (If I had old email I wouldn't need their help and since when do hackers care about closing accounts). DO NOT BUY UBISOFT if theres a chance…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Ubisoft randomly suspended my account and now i can't play the game I paid my money for. Beautifull.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →i.. don't like this game, its mostly due to the fact that ubisoft refuses to work 24-7 and i cant ever actually PLAY the game and i've tried almost everything, i feel like the concept is great, Ubisoft. Fix your software or whatever it is, or just make the game load even when you dont have ubisoft.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Requires an Ubisoft account to play single player, like so many very poorly chosen games tend to. I would have still been willing to play, but unfortunately the account creation process bugged out on me as my spam folder caught the email verification step. I fixed it and wanted to resent the verification code to try again but unfortunately Ubisoft does not allow you to log into your account because it wasn't verified in the first place which is what you have to do in order to resend the…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I'm not sure, it used to work for me back when I bought it, however it's now unplayable since I cant get past the main menu. constant error messages. Tried a few fixes that unfortunately didn't work, I've seen this is a common issue. I believe it may be due to Ubi shutting down games like this and the crew. Don't buy.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game is great, love the anno franchise, but the Ubisoft launcher is terrible. Why does it keep asking me for my email address, why is it not just integrated? I wish anno was not a Ubisoft game.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Not as good as 1800. Much better than 2205. Less struggle session than 1404. Still number 1 in our hearts.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →dont but any games from ubisoft worst suport team i ever seen , 3 months still cant recover my account, support is all bots and auto messages.... useless, so dont spend ur money soon or later u gona lose it and they dont care!
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Like most ANNO, this isn't a Steam game. Requires Ubiconnect account login and connection Doesn't work if you're offline Includes Denuvo DRM And it's still pricy Sure, there's an all right ANNO game under all that, and if you know/like ANNO, you already know if you'll like the game. So the review is purely on those business decisions.

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is my favorite Anno game of all time. I discovered the series with 1701 and bought 2070 when it released. I’ve played this game over and over again, and I never got bored—even when it didn’t have as much content as the newer Anno titles. I loved the whole process from start to finish (even though I never actually completed any of my games). Building a not‑so‑distant future, a world I hoped to see when I grew old, was something truly special. However, I can no longer recommend it. My…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Requires connecting to broken services, making the game literally unplayable.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I'm sick and tired of having to log in and reset my password to play each and ever game...any game by Ubisoft!
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Ubisoft always asking me to log in on every game, and it never signs in. It's entirely unnecessary and its stupid. I hope your company goes bankrupt
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →amazing game, i can sink hours upon hours into it without realizing. but the stupid ubisoft launcher always sours the experience. at the time of writing this, i cant even play it because "a ubisoft service is currently unavailable" and subsequently i got my account suspended for trying to open the game multiple times :/
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Anno 2070 is a bold and imaginative entry in the long-running city-building and strategy series developed by Ubisoft Blue Byte and Related Designs. Unlike its predecessors, which focused on historical settings, Anno 2070 leaps into the near future, presenting a world grappling with the consequences of environmental collapse and rising sea levels. This thematic shift allows the game to explore new mechanics, aesthetics, and strategic considerations, while still preserving the series' core…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I'm giving this a thumbs down because of Ubisoft's crappy launcher. You have to constantly re-enter your password (despite them saying otherwise), and Ubi's "Connect" garbage runs alongside Steam. No reason to give these 🤡 your money.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →key does not work.. can't play
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Ubisoft has become absolute garbage. Their launcher was crap and it is now even worse. I cannot play my old games because I am stuck in an infinite loop of capcha when I try to recover my connection password. Ubisoft, you just lost another loyal customer for years.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Stupid Ubisoft connect made it unplayable.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Seventeen minutes to connect to Ubisoft Connect only to be presented with everything displaying in Chinese language because like 80% of the rest of the world, I use a VPN. Spent another thirteen minutes reviewing how to check and select English in the stupid app only to discover that this doesn't mean anything because the actual language is determined by your location and the language settings in the app are meaningless. After creating a bypass rule in my VPN I get to the login screen a third…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →as with all ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ games, if you bought them you'd still want to sail the seas to get rid of their forced online uplay ♥♥♥♥. like the game itself is rather solid, but that external launcher crap that rarely ever even works (if you're willing to actually run that crap that is) so yea, can't recommend buying this game, not because of it being a bad game, but because it's literally unplayable without sailing the seas, which kinda makes any purchase invalid to begin with...
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Same as other comments, this game is locking/ suspending my account making inaccessible any ubisoft game, because of the useless launcher
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I have played this game for may years. But every time I move laptops or reinstall my OS. It is a war just to get Ubisoft to give me my login info. I have a very old email I tried to change to a updated one and that failed. I don't understand why I have to have a Ubisoft connect account AND a steam account to play this game. I will never play or buy a Ubisoft game ever again.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →No longer able to play this single player game because it "needs" me to login in. The only consolation is I don't remember it being that fun in the first place and I can free up some disk space. Highly recommend avoiding Ubisoft products in general as a result.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The worst Anno game by far. There is no balance to the game play...long stretches of nothing and sudden spikes of extreme difficulty. Ridiculous scenarios you cant do anything about but completely wreck everything you built. The computer is so much stronger that its really unfair. Sometime you start losing money and there is no reason or its because your dont have enough X, but it takes so long to make X it doesn't matter if you build 10 factories. As i said, the balance is all wrong and it…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →First game in my backlog to end up in my "Could-not-finish" catalogue. After progressing through the second mission in the second act of "The Virus" campaign, the game reached a certain stage in which it entered a "Reboot loop." I did fix the issue by copying over .rda-files from the Ubisoft Connect installed version of the game to the maindata folder, but then the game launched in offline mode and had forgotten my progression tied to my Ubosoft account. Really bummed that I can't finish the…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I can't launch it; it's asking me to log in to Uplay, which I don't have and don't want to create, so I can't even play the game :/
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Asks for Ubisoft account password each time you want to play... and when Ubisoft servers are "unavailable", guess what? Also very bad tutorial / campaign script
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →DRM and having to launch this through another online store over 10 years of its original release is sad.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Love the game but hate the Ubislop barrier to entry. It's my favorite Anno game but trying to get anything working through Ubislop isn't worth it. I lost most of my games that I own from them because they reset stuff
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Anno peaked with Anno 1404 and Anno 2070 The game is great, it took almost everything Anno 1404 did and improved it in some way, as well as adding more content Sadly land battles are gone, being replaced by aircraft and anti-air defenses instead The new game mechanics like eco balance and energy are a nice addition that adds some more variables to the game to mess around with, that unlike the population in anno 1800 dont limit the gameplay enjoyment The Steam version used to have some…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Take that Ubisoft launcher and shove it!
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →i can't play my single player game because ubisoft wont allow me to log in to some old email I don't have access to anymore. Absolute disgrace.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →So complicated I don't understand how to play this game. Avoid it and play Anno 1800
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I rarely, if ever, post anything or write reviews, but this time I just felt that a "Mixed" rating for this game is way too harsh. I'm not defending game corporations, especially large ones pushing their launchers into almost every new title. And God forbid, I'm certainly not defending Ubisoft. But the game itself is just awesome. I've been a big fan of Anno for ages, as I guess most of us here have. I spent countless days playing 1701 and 1404, and now I've finally decided to come back to…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Horrible launcher that repeatedly asks for your Password + puts you in a reboot loop. The actual game itself is a solid 7.5/10 and fun and has cool mechanics. Shame ubisoft ruined it.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I can't log in to ubisoft connect because of captcha every time I solve it I am given another one.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Awesome game that has aged very well. Multiplayer works without a hitch. The game runs periodic world event special missions changing out every month or so. The only problem is the low number of players still playing it. So buy the game and join us! Each new player makes it that much better!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Ubisoft launcher locks you out of the game making it unplayable
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I try launching game 20-30 times, of those I manage to get it running once if I'm lucky. Not because the game itself is buggy, but because there is so much ubisoft authentication garbage built on top of it. They purposefully prevent you from running the game you already paid for. And its always different issues. all related but slightly different. The message is loud and clear. Never pay for a ubisoft game. Pitty cuz they make good games (sometimes), but they insist on treating…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Gross new forced-login Ubisoft launcher required to run the game. This is a bad move.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Game doesn't work. Instead of starting, it requires login to an ubisoft account. Despite entering correct credentials, login is not possible.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →So tired of games like this that require a log in with password outside of steam. I will never buy a Ubisoft game again. So frustrating when you reinstall a game you bought long ago only to be hit with a password you don't remember.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →All the Ubi junk aside: This game feels older than Anno 1404 (which I strongly recommend!), let me compare 2070 to that previous game: - The game makes you choose between two standalone factions (and one common support faction), which makes 1/3rd of resources and plants unusable for you unless you decide to develop a second society in the endgame - The islands feel the same, there is no difference between them. Underwater places are shallow even with the DLC - The main challange is no…
